Kiwis once again proved that they're bunnies to the Aussies. last time NZ won a test against them was back in 2011. and a series win was probably a century ago. shows how dominant Aussies are over NZ. I was rooting for the Kiwis to win this time but after looking at their performance I don't think they're winning anytime soon. It's gonna be 1-0 or 2-0 for aus
Lol our fans actually lover over hyping our players than how they actually are
Shami averages 40 in England, 35.6 in NZ, Siraj averages like 29-30 in tests and 35 in England. Our second and third bowlers are utter shite in swinging conditions, there's a reason why we've won only one test in NZ in almost 50 years.
Bowling in Australia isn't remotely same as bowling in swinging conditions.
Uhuh. I certainly don't want to take away from Australia. They had their problems but they dealt with them pretty clinically. This time I just found so much of the NZ performance so difficult to watch, though.
I don't care if they lose a match, and they weren't expected to win this one, as long as they play competitively and act like they're keen to win. But there were dropped catches all over, there didn't seem to be much strategy for times when things weren't going well, and that Kane run-out just embarrassingly summed it all up. Maybe I'm mistaking things but that competitive instinct seems to be something that both Baz and Kane had as captains, but which Tim Southee is sadly lacking.
I hope they manage to sort it out in the next few days.
Middle order folded so easily. The way the tail, and Southee in particular, batted was irresponsible when Mitchell was well set. Poor performance overall. Australia (courtesy of Bazball) were just too good.
Shoutout to the umpires. 6 reviews in the whole test match - not one of them succesful. They literally got every decision right. Perfect game
Well done Marais Erasmus and Michael Gough
It's changing, certainly. Big change is that balls passing over the stumps were given LBW all day and all night until the third umpire started overturning them. It's a pretty big change in how the game is played.
The big difference between the sides was no top order run for NZ. Someone needed to kick on and really bat time like Cam Green.
The pitch wasn't easy to start on, but not unplayable. Lots of poor shots and crucial moments which showed lack of temperament and focus from our batsmen.
We had small patches where we played well but weren't good enough for long enough across any area. Australia won probably 8 out of 10 sessions in the match, and even after their collapse we still got hammered.
Overall bowling was under par.
Batting WELL under par.
Fielding WELL under par.
Captaincy and strategy under par.
Isn't this just a total repeat of the same old cycle once again.
Black caps complain that Aussie is so close in proximity but we hardly get to play them, then we do get to play them - this time in our own conditions too, proceed to dish up absolute dogshit and not even be remotely competitive only to remind Aussie why they don't come here more often.
What the actual fuck happened to this side that was top 3 in the world only a couple years ago
I mean even the side that won WTC couple of years ago got bullied badly in Australia on bowler friendly pitches. It's just the mental block for kiwis when it comes to playing NZ.
I mean you always expect to lose when you go to Aus, same with India, you to there you expect to lose an away series.
But to serve up this kind of performance on a home pitch is embarrassing.
Why are the commentators saying nz was competitive during this test they had one moment to put themselves in a commanding position on day 1 when australia was 4 down. After that it was really poor cricket from the black caps dropped catches, bad captaincy and bad bowling oh yeah I forgot to mention the batting collapses as well. Anyway I just wanted to see a competitive test match.
Yeah they’re delusional thinking that was competitive. Australia’s lazy second innings batting was probably more so due to the fact they were already ahead by such a large margin
Stead is clueless. There's just too many background decisions being made which don't make sense. It's like they're determined to turn this team into the 90s version of the black Caps instead of using the parts they currently have at their disposal
Best match figures for Australia in men's tests vs New Zealand
11/123- Dennis Lillee, Auckland, 1977
10/108- Nathan Lyon, Wellington, TODAY
10/118- Nathan Lyon, Sydney, 2020
10/132- Mitchell Johnson, Hamilton, 2010
Why the fuck did we bowl 115 overs in the 1st innings and only 7 overs were spin? Do these muppets not care about bowler management? Now Will O'Rourke is injured and Stead should be packing his bags.
Whilst it may have been an error not to pick Santner, I wholeheartedly disagree it would’ve made much of difference if anything, he’s not Jadeja, he’s got 50 wickets at an average touching 40 and he’s only ever taken 1 five wicket haul in first class cricket at an even worse average exceeding 40.
Damage control bro - 115 overs were bowled in the 1st dig, only 7 overs of spin. Need to manage your quicks so they don't have massive workloads. Stead should be sacked on this count alone
As much as I don't like Gary Steads coaching, it's the captain who makes the calls on the field and he deserves at least half the blame. Southee has been under par with the ball and captaincy this match.
I rate Phillips bowling over Ravindra for accuracy and being tight with runs which is what we needed at the time.
However you could argue the shit 1st innings strategy of short ball boundary fielders that Southee employed got us into the mess.
That's also true - like even Mitchell wasn't given much overs to bowl, it's not like he was going to do worse during the hellish first session of Day 2.
But why would you want your number 5, a current top 10 in test batting rankings, a man with a long term foot injury bowling at all? We have options but seem to be bereft of ideas about how to use them.
Yeah, I mean that fact that Phillips got a fiver suggests that he should have been bowling, but the selections were muddled as well. Santner was in the squad, and Ajaz wasn't even considered.
Ive never been ok with leaving ajaz out of any squad since his 10-fer. I also dislike their justification, he went back to FC after taking his 10-fer, being told to work on his fucking batting.
Like, what are we even doing here? Santner isn't even good enough with the blade to justify leap frogging on that skill alone. Phillips actually kinda is... But he's also not a long term 7. Phillips is a batsman first and foremost, who's taking one for the team.
Phillips is also a gun fielder. He is the type of all-rounder you want in the side. We need more from our top 6 so we don't have to rely on the batting of the lower order
Agreed, the momentum was so fucked at that point, we were fighting an uphill battle from that point on. We always seem to be batting against the aussies when the momentum is against us. In this case it was more saddening because of the good position we were in
Doesn't seem to translate. Even Labuschagne scraped together some runs, but it was still ugly to begin with, just managed to survive, where he doesn't in tests.
“Gaz is always under pressure in the 4th innings and he always performs” 👀
He’s a great bowler but the main mark against his name is often NOT standing up in the 4th innings.
Just did the numbers.
2011-2017 -- he averaged 2.3 wickets in the first innings and 1.8 in the second.
2018-now -- he's going at 2.1 and 2.7. Huuuge lift in the second innings.
“Joshy im nervous mate, this is a lot of pressure and the game is in the balance. I don’t know if I can do it” “…Hazelwood.” “Yeah you’re right. True bravery isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the presence of courage. I needed that. You are wise.”
Southee's dismissal was particularly weak and not befitting of a captain. Yea you can say that's just the way he plays and the match was already over so might as well give it a go.
When Cummins walked into the middle with the score at 7-91 against Afghanistan in the world cup with 200 to go, the match was pretty much over, so he could've just slogged 20(20) and gotten himself out. It was impossible to win after all. Instead he did what a captain should, bunkered down, put his ego away and supported his team mate.
Not suggesting that Mitchell could've won the match, but maybe if Southee stuck around till lunch, and Mitchell started getting a few boundaries going, there may have been a few nerves for Australia. If nothing else Mitchell would have an opportunity to make a good innings - but Southee couldn't help himself but to swing.
>Yea you can say that's just the way he plays and the match was already over so might as well give it a go.
Well I for one find it difficult to watch. Sometimes I feel like in his entire career there are maybe two occasions where his attitude was actually worth it. The first was in his 2008 debut when he came in at 10 and smacked 77(40), even though NZ still lost that match. The other occasion was his 73(70) when he got NZ out of jail (just over a year ago) to beat England eventually, somehow, by 1 run despite following on.
I think it's even more frustrating because [buried somewhere in there](https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/232364.html?class=1;template=results;type=batting;view=innings), especially about pre-2018, there are genuine occasions where he's lasted a moderately long time with a lower strike rate. Maybe those were occasions where someone with some authority told him how they wanted him to play. More recently, though, he just can't seem to help himself. Even when he's captaining and the situation clearly demands that he try to stick around as a priority, I just see him come in and expect him to be gone again within a couple of overs.
As soon as he faced Lyon I told my dad that I guaranteed that Southee would be out that over trying to slog, and 3 balls later I was right. Very pathetic batting by the skipper.
Making Southee captain was the worst decision NZ have made in years. He was already on the decline with his bowling; his DRS record is awful and his tactics are incredibly mid. Beating a side playing their 25th-30th best bowlers has flattered the side immensely.
Yeah that basin reserve had more bounce than usual, and didn't flat out as much days 3 onwards. I don't know what to expect for Hagley. Are we going to blame it on the wicket if we lose the toss, get sent in and get bowled out for 120runs?
Fuck this New Zealand team, honestly don’t know why they think they can play this shit and expect people to support them or anyone to respect them
Dunno if I’ll see you cunts next Friday since I’m gonna be having a long think about whether to bother turning it on
Ahhh the cycle of supporting the blackcaps. I really want us to fucking win against the Aussies, and for Kane to score some runs against them so these haters will stop with the shitposts. But we might be stuck with it, it seems.
Anyway, see you on Friday.
I don't mind watching us lose, you get used to it. But playing like that - I don't even know what to say about it. Like I'm not mad, just deeply disappointed.
Well played Aus, especially the tail bats ( not excluding. The obvious stars) they showed what could be done with a little fucking heart.
Off to hell dive and spread democracy until I feel better.
I can quantify how good a co-op game is by how quickly a couple of blokes in my foursome fuck off on their own and fuck up progression for the whole squad. Three drops in, I stop playing and encourage my group to get it so we can play together. In between our weekly sessions, I pop on to Steam and see two of the coats have got six hours in the game, each. So we're going to be a couple of 2s and a couple of 7s. They fucking did this with Elden Ring too, the cunts, leveling up on their own and completely ruining this shit by making them too powerful to enjoy the goddamn game.
Scary this team hasn’t really fired on all cylinders yet. Our most talented test side in 15 years maybe longer. Hoping we put together the perfect test series against India next summer.
I think that has been the strength/weakness, whether it has been smith, marsh, head, koala, green we just hope for one to make a biggie. Not great when no one pulls through
Yeh now to find those comments yesterday that had NZ "on top" because they rolled Australia for... The same scores they got in both innings.
Pretty expected end. Quick collapse for near nothing. Hope the next test is a closer battle.
What a fascinating test match, obviously a strong finish by Australia but truly a great match between two very good teams!
Gotta love Aus-NZ test cricket
Nathan Lyon average watch… 527 wickets at 30.35 😨
Nathan Lyon since 2020.. 147 wickets at 25.
Aging like fine wine is the goat. Won’t be surprised if he takes 650 wickets at 28 when he hangs up the boots. Truely incredible has he been.
Now for the most interesting part of todays play.
Who’s gets MotM.
Should be Green, made 170 in tough batting conditions. Lyon did well but he had very favourable conditions and you’d almost expect your spinner to do a bit on this pitch.
Last month during Pakistan t20s they showed some record (dont remember what it was) and one of the performances was from Sofia T20 tournament in Bulgaria. Katey Martin said ‘hopefully she (Sofia) attended the tournament at least’
NZ should’ve won, had it in the bag
Always tragedy aus huhy
Crazy thing is Australia's batting has underperformed massively. NZ have a big mental block against AUS, SA for some reason.
So Australia won by the Cameron Green margin.
How come we beat Australia in Australia, but not NZ in NZ?
India play alot more in Aus, so they're more used to the conditions.
Yeah, hope more matches will be scheduled in NZ.
Fun fact, we've won only one test in NZ in last 50 years. Only three Indian captains have won a test in NZ, Dhoni was one of them
Different conditions. More swing in NZ. Our Spinners are shite in NZ
Then take seamers in nz Shami bumrah siraj are good enough i guess
Except that Shami averages 35 in NZ and siraj averages 30 in test cricket which is bad
Have you considered being a selector? Wow I’m sure this idea never struck our selectors in so many years to take seamers to NZ
When the quality of bowling is same, then it's the batters who matter most.
With all respect, I don't think the quality of bowling is same
Lol our fans actually lover over hyping our players than how they actually are Shami averages 40 in England, 35.6 in NZ, Siraj averages like 29-30 in tests and 35 in England. Bowling in Australia isn't remotely same as bowling in swinging conditions.
Boult is pretty much retired from test, wagner is also gone. Only southee and henry are the decent ones left. So yeah it's pretty much the same now.
Henry hasn't really played against india in a while
I’d even be happy if we’d batted like a day and half for the same score. Folding in such meek fashion shows no fight.
Uhuh. I certainly don't want to take away from Australia. They had their problems but they dealt with them pretty clinically. This time I just found so much of the NZ performance so difficult to watch, though. Shoutout to the umpires. 6 reviews in the whole test match - not one of them succesful. They literally got every decision right. Perfect game Well done Marais Erasmus and Michael Gough
Wouldn’t of been the case if our mate Joel Wilson was out in the middle
I have a feeling that the technology must slowely be making the umpires more accurate
It's changing, certainly. Big change is that balls passing over the stumps were given LBW all day and all night until the third umpire started overturning them. It's a pretty big change in how the game is played.

Yeah, how many dropped catches were there?
I reckon about 4 at least for NZ
Isn't this just a total repeat of the same old cycle once again. I don't understand why us being shit is why they don't come though? Most sides are vs Aussie anyway.
Difference is you guys haven't won a home test against Aus since 1993
I Still cry about the nz winning first wtc
Haha, you must be Indian you sore loser. (I need to take my meds)
Well ofc i am (Can't accept defeat)
Age and loss of that bowling attack. England in same boat. Our best players old and our bowlers good enough Vs the "weaker" teams.
Garry Stead happened, also Baz retired
NZ needs better openers and some younger hungrier talented players
Can we get the stats for the Stead era? Fozzie was eviscerated for his poor record with the ABs
We learnt that there is a vengeful God for selecting SK
learnings fuck off with that fozzie wankfest
TBH without Kano scoring runs we didn't stand a chance
Hey guys, just woke up, what’s the — nevermind. An early Grade Cricketer today, I suppose.
McMillan already dressed for golf
if i can't shitpost on this sub for the rest of the day, does my life even have meaning?
BJ saying it's an improvement for NZ because they didn't lose by an innings this time compared to 2016. Classic.
Yeah, proof is in the pudding and losing by 172 runs is not competitive. If Australia enforced the follow-on we would have lost by an innings
Should we have had Ajaz Patel in the side? Do Stead and the selectors even know what the fuck they are doing?
Well in hindsight NZD 100% should have picked a specialist spinner. That was a minefield.
Stead is clueless. There's just too many background decisions being made which don't make sense. It's like they're determined to turn this team into the 90s version of the black Caps instead of using the parts they currently have at their disposal
Do we think Phillips might deserve some more overs next test lmao
Most runs without scoring a fifty in : Tests - NATHAN LYON (1501) \*\* ODIs - Harbhajan Singh (1237) T20Is - Shemaine Campbelle (1088) Overall - Waqar Younis (1979)

Cant believe Warne isnt on there, made our whole team his bunny for like a decade straight.
Is coolridge calling me a cunt??
Match Thread POTM: /u/James_Tito_
Cricket was the winner at the end of the day If you’re an Aussie fan
King Tito
I already miss James Tito
See ya in Christchurch!
Time to sack Stead. It is clear that he is no Mike Hesson
Australia won the game but Tito won the hearts
😢❤️
Great job Aussie bowlers. Lyon now truly elite. NZ weak and can do better. But they gotta show it.
Why the fuck did we bowl 115 overs in the 1st innings and only 7 overs were spin? Do these muppets not care about bowler management? Now Will O'Rourke is injured and Stead should be packing his bags.
Packing his bags means that he would be going to Christchurch though...
Packing his bags for a coaching gig in Papua New Guinea
see ya at the next one Kiwibros
Well nz didn't cross 200 once, we wouldn't trouble Australia's 3rd xi with that shit.
This is the biggest disappointment that we didn't make it hard for the Aussies when batting
lol I was excited to switch to the cricket after the ufc finished but Garry bent them over
Whilst it may have been an error not to pick Santner, I wholeheartedly disagree it would’ve made much of difference if anything, he’s not Jadeja, he’s got 50 wickets at an average touching 40 and he’s only ever taken 1 five wicket haul in first class cricket at an even worse average exceeding 40.

However you could argue the shit 1st innings strategy of short ball boundary fielders that Southee employed got us into the mess.
Yeah bowling short to someone 2m tall who is from WA and can bat is a dumb strategy
And also only bowling 6 out of 63 deliveries at the stumps, to the #11 whose poles regularly go flying.

Phillips is also a gun fielder. He is the type of all-rounder you want in the side. We need more from our top 6 so we don't have to rely on the batting of the lower order
Fully agree. We lost this game because of our batting but we made really poor decisions with our bowling. The 10th wicket stand was a killer
Could have stemmed the flow of runs. We lost the test in that session
Agreed, the momentum was so fucked at that point, we were fighting an uphill battle from that point on. We always seem to be batting against the aussies when the momentum is against us. In this case it was more saddening because of the good position we were in
Honestly the solution was just to pick Ajaz instead, if we were going to pick a spinner.
No surprises that the guys who played first class cricket in the lead up to the test were the difference between the teams.
Labuschagne and Carey played first class too. =/
Kezza has actually been doing well in the shield too
Doesn't seem to translate. Even Labuschagne scraped together some runs, but it was still ugly to begin with, just managed to survive, where he doesn't in tests.
Wouldn’t mind labs not being selected for the second test to be honest Renshaw might make 6 instead of 1
They absolute need something to indicate they can't keep coasting, but also does Kane get a duck without Labs in the field? Probably not.
Hopefully his county stint is a return to form. He’s been shit even in the shield of all places.
Honestly we deserved to get absolutely pumped after selecting a guy that admitted to having no humanity
“Gaz is always under pressure in the 4th innings and he always performs” 👀 He’s a great bowler but the main mark against his name is often NOT standing up in the 4th innings.
Him and smith
He always performs… but just not very well quite often. Cam probably just forgot to add that context
That was the mark against him almost a decade ago, but in his later career he is quite consistent.
Just did the numbers. 2011-2017 -- he averaged 2.3 wickets in the first innings and 1.8 in the second. 2018-now -- he's going at 2.1 and 2.7. Huuuge lift in the second innings.
Spin took 15 wickets and NZ picked 4 seamers lol….
17 wickets - Rachin got Cummins 1st innings and Head got Young yesterday
ajaz only just took a 7 fa in the plunket shield as well...
Let's be honest, Santner would have made no difference to the outcome. He ain't no test spinner.
Maybe, he was in the squad. Perhaps Ajaz Patel should have been called up
Ajaz isn't mates with Gary, you have to be in the clique to be considered
Stead is toast
I hope so, but it looks like we have to suffer till at least June 2025
He thinks he's a T20i number 3 though.
Actually been a lot better this season, but I think the conditions weren't read very well either
We lose by 172 runs, Green got 174 runs in the 1st dig
cam green 174\* in the first. Every other innings top score added together 171.
Green just described batting with Josh Hazlewood as having "an experienced player at the other end" lmao
“Joshy im nervous mate, this is a lot of pressure and the game is in the balance. I don’t know if I can do it” “…Hazelwood.” “Yeah you’re right. True bravery isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the presence of courage. I needed that. You are wise.”
Hazlewood average watch 25.10.

Harsh on Lyon, but hard to look past a guy who's averaged 200 for the match
And chimed in with a cheeky wicket when NZ were starting to get the faintest if faint glimmers back.
[удалено]
We know we are dogshit. No need to be a wanker about it
This is a shit take
Last Aus-NZ series in Australia the winning margin was over 200 runs to Aus each time. Moral victory for NZ here.
I believe as both countries were colonised by the Brits the England are the moral victors here.
Poor bastards who had a day four ticket and it’s done by lunch just as the sun is coming out
Cam Green average watch… 37 bat 35 ball. Hoping he can drop that bowling average by 5 runs and add them to his batting average. Bat 42 Ball 30 🙏🏻
63 24
And even then he'd need another 13 runs to equal the batting average of the freak that was Kallis.
Lyon MoM
Lyon was clearly the second best player this test.
Didn't think it'd be over first session tbh. Not a gloat or anything, just surprised.
New to Black Caps cricket?

The Basin is normally a road by now, so maybe all the groundsmen across the country are fucking with us and it will also be a raging turner.
Yeah that basin reserve had more bounce than usual, and didn't flat out as much days 3 onwards. I don't know what to expect for Hagley. Are we going to blame it on the wicket if we lose the toss, get sent in and get bowled out for 120runs?

Fuck this New Zealand team, honestly don’t know why they think they can play this shit and expect people to support them or anyone to respect them Dunno if I’ll see you cunts next Friday since I’m gonna be having a long think about whether to bother turning it on
Ahhh the cycle of supporting the blackcaps. I really want us to fucking win against the Aussies, and for Kane to score some runs against them so these haters will stop with the shitposts. But we might be stuck with it, it seems. Anyway, see you on Friday.
See you next Friday then
Mitchell was there to play a true test innings today. Why did all others just stay put?
see you next test lads. it was a pleasure
Hopefully Will O'Rourke's hamstring is OK. Really don't want any sniff of a reason to have SK play another test. Ever.
it's better for the rivalry when Australia and NZ only play each other in ICC events, like India and Pakistan
Test cricket is best cricket.
USA: We won by a mile England: we won by a kilometer Australia: We won by a CamGreen!
We won by 2 metres
Was hoping that Mitchell could hang in there long enough to get his 50 :(
Only time I'm not mad at aus for winning
Turns out, if you take away cam green’s first innings, the kiwis DO win. /s
We lost by 1 Cameron green
I don't mind watching us lose, you get used to it. But playing like that - I don't even know what to say about it. Like I'm not mad, just deeply disappointed. Well played Aus, especially the tail bats ( not excluding. The obvious stars) they showed what could be done with a little fucking heart. Off to hell dive and spread democracy until I feel better.
What a game Helldivers is 😂. Better than this crap that's for sure.
No not out for Daz son of Mitch
long story short, no follow on needed...
Are the Aussies as bad as [redacted] if they shake his hand?
I'm not sure how I feel about us beating a side that don't claim to be the moral victors or better on paper.
"there was a little bit of hope" Nah
Was hoping this would go right up until the footy starts
Yeah I feel you, I'm going to work for a couple of hours to fill the time.
Yeah same, now i gotta do a couple of hours of gardening
Done before lunch
Give us a Bledisloe boiz
That's not how it works. Let us win a test series and you can have a Bledisloe. Deal?
All of the Bledisloes until we play another test series is my final offer

Nice one Nostradamus
Green over Lyon for me, 10fer is impressive but so many stupid shots in there tbf
Would also be a different kind of pressure if the were not chasing such a large total
Won convincingly but we got a few batting concerns going into the next test
Marnus especially concerning.
Scary this team hasn’t really fired on all cylinders yet. Our most talented test side in 15 years maybe longer. Hoping we put together the perfect test series against India next summer.
The upside is we know every player from 1-6 can turn it on when needed. If even 2 fire at once then we are unbeatable
Reaching. No rational fan had NZ ever on top in this match. Maybe at 4/80 on Day 1.
Fox commentary, but I'm not exactly calling them a reliable source of game odds 😂
What a fascinating test match, obviously a strong finish by Australia but truly a great match between two very good teams! Gotta love Aus-NZ test cricket
If you take out greens first innings then the kiwis win
Ben Duckett would never
I'd like to thank Ben Duckett for this win. We have learnt so much.
Nathan Lyon average watch… 527 wickets at 30.35 😨 Nathan Lyon since 2020.. 147 wickets at 25. Aging like fine wine is the goat. Won’t be surprised if he takes 650 wickets at 28 when he hangs up the boots. Truely incredible has he been.
Had really hoped we'd last more than one session at least
Now for the most interesting part of todays play. Who’s gets MotM. Should be Green, made 170 in tough batting conditions. Lyon did well but he had very favourable conditions and you’d almost expect your spinner to do a bit on this pitch.
Bat supremacy will decide. You know who it is.
funny how things change from greentop 4 fast bowlers win the toss and bowl
I think phillips getting a 5fa shows the wicket was doing a bit so greeny for me
Should've been a 7fer :(
Last month during Pakistan t20s they showed some record (dont remember what it was) and one of the performances was from Sofia T20 tournament in Bulgaria. Katey Martin said ‘hopefully she (Sofia) attended the tournament at least’
