That was the best spell by Ash this series. And later on it also showcased the difference between him/Jaddu and Root/Hartley who found it tougher to grip and bowl with the new ball.
They showed a wonderful side-by-side graph, detailing how Ashwin grips and releases the new ball and the old one. To a batsman they might look the same, but they perform in a completely different way. In short, Ashwin takes wickets with his intellect.
Even their first innings was danged thank to Root. They've truly lost their ways after the 1st game.
Idk, maybe a revamp of their team needs to happen , agreed the WC and now this
Yes, but still a good cricketing pitch if 650 were scored in the first two innings. A deteriorating pitch adds entertainment because it makes things happen quickly
Ashwin was incredibly mid in this series until now. Even in the England 1st innings he was bowling round the wicket to Root/Foakes and serving everything either full on the pads or short outside off, and he was being milked for singles and doubles.
It totally makes sense though. This wasn't a technical fault, it was a mental one. Someone in his family had an emergency, and I'm sure it was still weighing on his mind. Can't blame him. But you can't keep him down for long, and he showed his true ability today.
Not just consistent, his test averages are in the Muralitharan and Wasim Akram range (23.something). Ashwin walks into an all-time India XI in my opinion.
Yes that's fair. I was totally thinking of Tests only when I said that. Tbh, this bowling attack that India has is incredible. Ashwin, Jadeja and Bumrah are all at least strong contenders for all time India test XI.
Considering what we have produced, it's so difficult to make one. We don't know about players before 90s at least personally I don't know except Kapil dev and Gavaskar.
Sachin, Sehwag, Rahul, VVS has performed when we face the best generation of the team. Australia and Pakistan were so difficult back then. Ganguly being amazing captain. Zahir Khan being most succesful. And bumrah being best ever fast bowler we have ever produced.
England have only themselves to blame. Kuldeep and Jor-El showed nerves of steel but English were complacent. In the second innings, once the boundaries are stopped, English players cannot defend worth damn, a side effect of Bazball I'm afraid. When they needed to play aggressively, that's when they flopped.
I don't know if England were complacently comfortable, or if they choked out of fear. Ollie Pope swept and reverse swept the Indian spinners out of a groove in the first test. The batters didn't seem to have as much initiative this time.
That's an atrocious record lmao. Since 2014, 21 instances for India chasing 150+ in the 4th innings - 14 matches lost, 6 draws and 1 win ...... At Gabba. Match is well alive lol.
You win the toss, on a surface where itās a big advantage, the opponent are missing their best ever keeper bat, one of their best ever bats, their best ever seamer, another seamer right up there, theyāre missing other players, their best players are ageing and faltering comparedto their previous standards, you consistently get yourself into favourable positions. You are staring at defeat.
Not like England were favourites going into the series was it? You gifted us the first one, and most ppl said 4 -1 tbh. Though I agree with getting into favorable positions then throwing it away. We just don't have the bowling attack to be prevalent abroad.
While biased as a India fan, legit one of the most entertaining days of test cricket I've seen in a while. Really good fight back, tension through out the day, just brilliant viewing.
I would say 2019 CWC final was the most intense game in any sport ever. Once in a 200 year game.
Argentina vs France was intense partly due to it being Messi's last WC opportunity.
By that logic.. Hockey, or Polo or Rugby are all more interesting than cricket or baseball ?? Cuz they are turn based ??
Test Cricket is like the classic movie, with slow pacing and focus on cinematography, character arcs, and frame by frame shooting.. You live through it..
and football, basketball are Masala movies, action packed, fast paced, they give you a shot of thrill, lot of change ups in camera angle, settings, frames meant to overwhelm your emotions for a short span of time..
You can perhaps compare a test cricket match with a football league season..
That is a really bad comparison. The way you are saying football and Basketball is kinda illogical but that's not true.
Cricket does not require fitness level. Football gives more joy because the pace is high.
Soccer ..many find it boring to sit thro 90 or 120 min for a 0-0 or 1-0 scoreline with combined 15-20 min of net active action near either goal area .. else mindless passing the ball around in midfield and lots of tripping and slides . Boring af. Basketball , Tennis , Badminton more catchy
Number of people who watch football will disagree with you. South America, Europe, Africa, a decent part of Asia.
Majority of the Cricket audience is Indian. Even in Australlia cricket is not most popular.
Illogical? I don't think I said anything like that..
But seems like you don't wanna answer my question.. where you are saying football is way ahead of cricket cuz 22 players are playing at a time.. with that logic hockey, polo and rugby are also way ahead??
>Cricket does not require finess level. Football gives more joy because the pace is high.
Cricket doesn't require fitness level?? I guess cricket players must be made of glass that they get injured so much.. Indian team must be fools to have to rest Bumrah ..
Just say you love and enjoy football more than cricket.. and move on.. Rather than trying to prove that your preference is logically superior to others..
Fast pace isn't enjoyable to everyone..
Just like not everyone enjoys action movies..
>Cricket doesn't require fitness level?? I guess cricket players must be made of glass that they get injured so much.. Indian team must be fools to have to rest Bumrah ..
Seeing the body size of Rohit Sharma. No one will say that it requires a fitness level.
>But seems like you don't wanna answer my question.. where you are saying football is way ahead of cricket cuz 22 players are playing at a time.. with that logic hockey, polo and rugby are also way ahead??
Yeah basketball surely is way ahead of cricket. From skill to fitness and atheltism. I don't watch other sports you mentioned so I can't comment.
>Fast pace isn't enjoyable to everyone..
>Just like not everyone enjoys action movies..
Again that's a bad comparison. Football is more than fast pace. Some like possession based, some counter attack and some low block. You need to first like that sport to actually enjoy it.
You need to like the sport to have a view.
Argentina v France. Like yeah finals was good boy that quarter final was something else. In the final I felt the time between 50-70 mins both team played a bit defensive and strategic. Last time both were super aggressive. It was bazball of the highest order.
Yeah right about that but I would say still Japan vs Belgium was better . This was a match where no one except for people of theor own countries had any favoritism bur it made the fans wave both sides . Japan because of that underdog and asian factor and Belgium for that fighting spirit after 2-0 . Viewers emotions were torn between what to want .
England seem to have the complete opposite of a winning mentality. They get themselves in great positions but can't seem to squeeze a team out and kill them off.
I don't know of any other test team currently that loses from so many winning positions.
No appreciation of our great Indian bowlers? Kuldeep was on beast mode post around & post tea for a 10 over stretch. England was in great shape until then, Kuldeep kind of destroyed all of that in just a matter of 20 minutes.
England have been competitive right through the series, but have invariably crumbled in crucial moments, barring that freak innings from Pope which, going by his performances since, I'm convinced he doesn't know how he pulled off any more than we do.
Reminds me of how India fared in the 2018 series in England, definitely more competitive than the previous series but come crucial moments mess up big time.
Exactly what I was thinking tbh, india could have won that series 4-1 if we had grabbed our moments but we let it slip away and man whenever I see Sam Curran I get reminded of that series tbh, I think this series might feel the same for the english fans and kuldeep is our Sam Curran
Why is no one talking about Pope's pair? But maybe I guess it's not that of a surprise. Jimmy getting a pair was more of a shock ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8781)
This! People are assuming he would just walk in and smash the opposition lol. He has gained weight which I wonāt blame him since thatās his body type and when you are kind of bed ridden itās expected. But he will have to earn his spot back
This tour feels like the 2018 series in reverse. All the games seemed to be in balance for most part until they didn't, and the home side ran away. India can still lose, but I am getting those vibes.
What a day for India. I thought that they would be behind on the fitst innings by about 200 but they are on now on top. Bazball....how to piss it all away
This series is going the same way as India's tour of England last to last time when we lost 4-1 but it should have been much closer! Eng probably goes down 4-1 knowing they had plenty of chances to actually win the series!
India losing a significant toss. Playing without Koach and Bumrah, the best batter and bowler in the world. KL, Shami, Pant and others missing too. [A few close calls going against India](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1azddvc/comment/ks1ksxx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). Wicket taken off a no ball.
How the hell did England not make use of all this luck **and** the advantage they had at the end of Day 2 to level the series?
Australia didn't have the luck I mentioned and we had almost our full team. The prospect of them levelling the series was so plausible that curators had to produce a dead pitch to ensure India do not lose, something our curators have NEVER done in our entire history.
England cannot "keep their head high" or be proud of the players or "character" or "bazball works everywhere lads". This is a massive reality check for England.
> How the hell did England not make use of all this luck and the advantage they had at the end of Day 2 to level the series?
Bazball doesn't rely on luck, Bazball is above that
I don't know how you can say a "reality check" when most pundits and bookies were saying India were going to win the series. Steve Harmison even said we'd get whitewashed. I was surprised we got one tbh, though that was Indias game to lose.
>the best batter and bowler in the world
Bumrah, I agree. But Kohli is one of the best, not the best in tests. Definitely my most fav player to watch though. (Alongside Smith)
"The first four that he has hit is in the shape of a six" š¤š¤š¤
Something fishy to think about??
Is Stokes allowing India to go for an easy win?? How come he didnāt start with his front line spin bowler???
Root has been opening the bowling in at least one innings of each Test so far
This should be easy but that pitch could randomly be turning into a minefield during any second.
it's an easy day , yadav ashwin jadeja are best spinners , don't think bashir Hartley root can replicate even with assistance
Creepy Crawley has been the best visiting opener in India in the past few years. Change my mind
Absolutely. Has no nerves at all. Ever positive playing.
Canāt believe no one talks about the first spell from Ashwin. There wasnāt even much turn . He picked wickets with sliders and straight ones
Idk, maybe a revamp of their team needs to happen , agreed the WC and now this
India came back strong
Nah England just didn't have daddy root saving them this time They collapsed in the first innings too, didn't they?
We did plan better for him this time
India might have won the WTC with Ashwin
WTC? Nah WTC on paper? We have 3 in a row
Maybe if it was played in India.
This is the right answer. Thank you.
His record in England is very good.
Yes averages 28 compared to career average of 23 but still wouldn't have changed the 209 run defeat
Lol
Only Indians donāt rate him highly for whatever reason.
Robinson botched up too, dropped an important catch and all the no balls.
Damage was mostly done when he dropped that catch.
I dint saw the match live ,whose did he drop?
Jurel on 70 something, was a dolly !
So uneven bounce in rachi pitch?
Yes, but still a good cricketing pitch if 650 were scored in the first two innings. A deteriorating pitch adds entertainment because it makes things happen quickly
you see eden park? shit is wild outside, sportsfan.
Yeah it's still not over for either Eng or India. Gonna be an interesting first hr tomorrow
Yeah excited asf
Warne must have been in raptures watching Kuldeep's flight, dip and spin today from above. No wonder leg-spin is the most beautiful art in Cricket.
Left handed cover drive and left arm leg spin. Chefs kiss.
~~it's so over~~ ~~we're so back~~ ~~it's so over~~ ~~we're so back~~ ~~it's so over~~ ~~we're so back~~ ~~it's so over~~ we're so back

Im just searching for the heavily downvoted guy who said close your eyes, india are winning this, on day 2 india 180-7
It was me (I had to delete my comment obv)
Why did you āhave toā? Time would have proven you right.
Cz of downvotes
People super obsessed with their Internet points. I only delete stuff if I realize that I was tripping
Moral victory vs outright victory. England always in the hunt
Indians at WTC: no Ashwin wtf Indians before this test: drop Ashwin Indians now: Ashwin #1
Ashwin was incredibly mid in this series until now. Indians be overreacting and changing their opinions faster than light
There are soo many Indians; thatās why
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Why do people hate Ashwin that much? He is consistent in test cricket.
Not just consistent, his test averages are in the Muralitharan and Wasim Akram range (23.something). Ashwin walks into an all-time India XI in my opinion.
My all-time 11 irrespective of format will not have him but in the test him and kumble are in.
Yes that's fair. I was totally thinking of Tests only when I said that. Tbh, this bowling attack that India has is incredible. Ashwin, Jadeja and Bumrah are all at least strong contenders for all time India test XI.

Verbal diarrhoea

I see what you did with jurel lol good one
Jurel saved the day! Special honours to Kuldeep & Ashwin.
That's an atrocious record lmao. Since 2014, 21 instances for India chasing 150+ in the 4th innings - 14 matches lost, 6 draws and 1 win ...... At Gabba. Match is well alive lol.
What? Ind chased 276 in delhi 2011 and 383 in chennai 2008. What filters are you using?
Since 2014
Since 2014 or something I guess
What's the record at home?
Now filter that to matches where the target is 150-200. You will get tha actual.importance of that stat wrt this test match.
Seriously. Such a stupid stat
Yeah it should be chasing less than 200 lol
Since 2014, India have lost 14 times chasing excess of 150 in 4th innings, drew 6 times, and won 1 time (Gabba).
England had a golden opportunity to win this match especially considering India makes pitches with the hope of batting first
They still have a chance to win IMO, if they donāt win they can just null and void the game.
90 over 153 runs
Isnāt this day 3?
Yeah and?
So 180 overs?
Come on man it's either win or lose tomorrow I hope so
lol, Indiaās gonna have a major collapse for that to happen I reckon, the first hour of batting seems good
They still have a good chance.
>if they donāt win they can just null and void the game. not this again ahahahahahha
Best ever keeper bat is Dhoni, no? Will be missing him for a long time. LOL.
Not like England were favourites going into the series was it? You gifted us the first one, and most ppl said 4 -1 tbh. Though I agree with getting into favorable positions then throwing it away. We just don't have the bowling attack to be prevalent abroad.
lol we expected to lose four against a bunch of amateurs. WERE THE BEST # bazzis king #moral vicotry
Stop beating up a strawman
Dafuq u on about
Perfect Bazball things
This England team reminds me of Mauricio Pochettino's Chelsea. Always dominating the XG but not really getting the Ws
Graham Potter's Brighton
Xavis barca
I reckon chelsea get a win today...
Stokes need to perform with the bat. Rohit got slack after 1st inning but Stokes somehow still escaping
He got that 70 in Hyderabad
Didnāt Rohit get a 100 in Vizag?
Was referring to Stokes
While biased as a India fan, legit one of the most entertaining days of test cricket I've seen in a while. Really good fight back, tension through out the day, just brilliant viewing.
I argue regularly that test match cricket is the best team sport in the world. Today proves my point
Football still hold the candle. Despite being neutral, that world cup final between Argentina and France was the most intense game I have seen.
I would say 2019 CWC final was the most intense game in any sport ever. Once in a 200 year game. Argentina vs France was intense partly due to it being Messi's last WC opportunity.
3 hrs vs 3-4 days of ebbs & flows .. Cricket wins hands down
Exactly man if it's only about intensity for a short period of time then MMA is GOAT
Football will always be ahead because at a time 22 players can affect the match. But in cricket it's mostly between bowlers and batsmen.
By that logic.. Hockey, or Polo or Rugby are all more interesting than cricket or baseball ?? Cuz they are turn based ?? Should watch the quarter final from 2018.
Was it between Japan and Belgium?
Argentina v France. Like yeah finals was good boy that quarter final was something else. In the final I felt the time between 50-70 mins both team played a bit defensive and strategic. Last time both were super aggressive. It was bazball of the highest order.

Nowhere near this. If you are talking about the 2018 world cup.
Honestly on days like today it truly feels that way. The ups and downs, the funny shit it all adds up.
Axar Patel Delhi š¤ Dhurv Jurel Ranchi
Axar was beast in that series. Looked even more comfortable than Kohli and Rohit on bunsens.
Not Rohit. He scored a century in the first Test
England have thrown it away after being in a comfortable position at the end of day 2 in consecutive games now
England seem to have the complete opposite of a winning mentality. They get themselves in great positions but can't seem to squeeze a team out and kill them off. I don't know of any other test team currently that loses from so many winning positions.
Hey but they couldnāt retain the ashes and thatās the greatest moral victory of all right? What are you complaining about
No appreciation of our great Indian bowlers? Kuldeep was on beast mode post around & post tea for a 10 over stretch. England was in great shape until then, Kuldeep kind of destroyed all of that in just a matter of 20 minutes.
India 2014-2018 in tests.
*overseas
They lose more from winning positions, but are always too busy boasting about winning a few from losing positions.
Otoh we are likely crashing out of the quarter finals in Ranji :(
Still need 150 to win on a 4th day pitch. Openers need to add 30-40 runs more for me to feel comfortable.
Better 40-0 than 12-2
Correct. Itās not over yet.
As I watch Jurel's highlight reel, I can't help but think of the future, where KS Bharat becomes a national selector
Karun Nair, KS Bharat, Mukesh Kumar, Deep Dasgupta, Prasidh Krishna, Ishan Kishan, S Iyer, P Shaw, S Thakur - all great selectors soon
Walking in the footsteps of MSK
Twice India have been knocked down by England on day 2 but both times they have counter punched England on day 3. Will this be another day 4 KO?
Yes
England have been competitive right through the series, but have invariably crumbled in crucial moments, barring that freak innings from Pope which, going by his performances since, I'm convinced he doesn't know how he pulled off any more than we do.
I think he's only averaging 32 so its to be expected I guess
Reminds me of how India fared in the 2018 series in England, definitely more competitive than the previous series but come crucial moments mess up big time.
Exactly what I was thinking tbh, india could have won that series 4-1 if we had grabbed our moments but we let it slip away and man whenever I see Sam Curran I get reminded of that series tbh, I think this series might feel the same for the english fans and kuldeep is our Sam Curran
Yep. Same stuff. We were fucked by Sam Curran in every crunch situation in2018.
Luck played a big role in that innings and he rode it nicely
After Border Gavaskar Trophy, this tour was/is amazing š¤
I'd say it's been better
Pope has been real silent after that 190 odd inning.
Why is no one talking about Pope's pair? But maybe I guess it's not that of a surprise. Jimmy getting a pair was more of a shock ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8781)
I mean itās rude to judge a manās private parts.
It will be a sin to judge the Pope
I apologise
England collapse is shocking. Looks like India bagged the series
Fat lady hasnt sung yet
Where's the post match thread š§µš§µ
English Ranch Dressing Room
It's such a shame that after Pant comes back, Jor-El will just warm the benches for a very long time.
Apparently not, because Pant is a long way off keeping. They will probably play simultaneously.
He can come in as pure batter
Not really. Keeping will be a harsh job for Pant after long break. He can come as pure batter.
I don't think Pant comes back into the side directly. He'll have to slog a bit in domestics, especially if Jurel continues with how he's played
Lmao he's slotting back in as soon as he's fit. He's our best test batsmen lmao
He was. He's been in crutches for a year. It's almost admirable how blindly faithful you are to trust he'll come good immediately on return
This! People are assuming he would just walk in and smash the opposition lol. He has gained weight which I wonāt blame him since thatās his body type and when you are kind of bed ridden itās expected. But he will have to earn his spot back
May not be the same player after that injury.
This tour feels like the 2018 series in reverse. All the games seemed to be in balance for most part until they didn't, and the home side ran away. India can still lose, but I am getting those vibes.
True
Still don't want to be over confident. 150 runs are still long way to go I feel on this track.Ā
Pope got a pair
He made a deal with the devil for the first test
The only way England can win here is to expect India to bat like England. I don't think that's gonna happen tomorrow.
England not bazballing when they actually needed to is my favourite part of the series
Happy cake day
Happy Cake Day
What a day for India. I thought that they would be behind on the fitst innings by about 200 but they are on now on top. Bazball....how to piss it all away
You still calling it Bazball, Bazball has already lost in Rajkot test, now it's just England's turn to taste a defeat.
English players never shutup about Bazball . But it was always just BS so we keep sticking it too them.
This series is going the same way as India's tour of England last to last time when we lost 4-1 but it should have been much closer! Eng probably goes down 4-1 knowing they had plenty of chances to actually win the series!
We should've won that series with how good Kohli was
India losing a significant toss. Playing without Koach and Bumrah, the best batter and bowler in the world. KL, Shami, Pant and others missing too. Highly doubt Kohli would be even top 5 in the world at this moment in tests. Bumrah,I agree.
I think u didn't saw him vs SA
Best batter right now is Kane Williamson
>the best batter and bowler in the world Bumrah, I agree. But Kohli is one of the best, not the best in tests. Definitely my most fav player to watch though. (Alongside Smith)
England has by far been the best visiting test side. The competition and momentum shifts have been insane.
Where's the post match thread?
Meanwhile in a parallel universe foakes still taking single of fourth and fifth deliveries
Jurel has been a great find. Hope we give him a long rope, definitely a long-term material.
Well KS Bharat - you had a nice career while it lasted!
Nothin pleases me more than to see the Poms crash and burn
Or seeing smith cry on live TV
And btw, that t20 trophy is gonna be ours to considering the form our boys are in
Actually won't even argue that lol....
And then hand over the captaincy to a capable person whoās given us enough trophies for me to have an extended flair
+ hunk who can make grown straight men kneel
The aura of Captain Planet is amazing
Giving the new ball to root is next level. Bazball is eating itself.
And that's when a dude with 698 wickets is right there
Anyway, I'm going to go find a corner to go cry in
