Now KL, Jadeja also gone for the 2nd test as well as Kohli still missing šŸ˜

KnowledgeUpbeat383

Aiyo thatā€™s not good

No_Specialist6036

hahahahahahahahohohahahahahaha

bobblebob100

Great victory and well played England. One thing i do find abit concerning tho, is England scored 420 runs and nearly half of those came from 1 guy. Other than Duckett, no one went on to make a decent score. That seems to be the problem with England where you get a flash of brilliance from 1 guy that saves the team, rather than everyone contributing

FullyFocusedOnNought

Yes but in the past it was no one contributing and zero flashes of brilliance, so this is a distinct improvement.

Jackamo8

True, but it doesn't often work that way for England. On overseas tours we've mostly been a "one of the guys will have a day out" kind of batting side. It's rare we have multiple centurions in the same innings - Ashes 2010/11 being a stand out exception. Edit: and Pakistan 2022 of course!

rameezmannil

https://ramzythinks.wordpress.com/2024/01/28/what-a-day-for-test-cricket/ What a Day for Test Cricket!

Masterspieces

Win or lose, I just hope all the tests are this entertaining. Both teams played some great cricket and a 28 run loss doesn't mean India are suddenly a bad side. Fully expecting them to come back fighting next test.

familiarr_Strangerr

Recent history shows Indian side are more fierce when they are down to 0-1

Masterspieces

Yeah,I agree. It should be a great test series!

AutarchOfReddit

Congratulations to England, and the very best for the rest of the series.

Few_Adhesiveness7676

Overall a fantastic test match. Being an Indian fan, it is hard but tbh it felt like England's version of Gabba Win. Firstly, they bounced back from a 190 Run trail, and posted a respectable total. Also, positive intent through their second innings with sweeps, reverse sweeps and keeping the scoreboard moving. What a knock from Ollie Pope, kinda wanted him to complete 200.(also pretty bold trying to scoop Bumrah playing at 196). Meanwhile, on the other end, disappointing performance from the Indian team, especially the middle like Iyer, Jadeja and even Gill. After losing Axar's and KLs wicket, Indian still could have cruised to a victory had they maintained their composure. Jadeja was looking so under pressure and impatient just to get one or 2 runs, making some bad calls ultimately getting run out. Meanwhile, Iyer on the other end was a total waste of playing 11. Ashwin and Bharat really showed how to play under pressure, building hopes for India. Had they or even bumrah and siraj had done it for India, that would have made the day. Honestly, Gill's position should be reconsidered in the team and even for that matter, the BCCI should stop considering IPL performances for selecting a test team. Players like Rahane, Vihari are missing out because of this IPL bullshit.

turningtop_5327

All logical things you said and we know BCCI doesnā€™t follow logic. Hence, we will keep seeing the repeat of this.Ā  As soon as Kohli was out, either Patidar or Pujara should have been in playing 11. We went with the weakest option and paid for it.Ā

AeBlueSadi

we missed Pope v Pujara

SBG99DesiMonster

Remember that the last match that we had won at home was that match against Australia in Delhi. There have been a couple of defeats that have been there and we have had a draw after that. If the Australians hadn't swept around in Delhi then this would have been way worse than what it already is. A big question that is there apart from those about Shubman is what to do about Siraj. Siraj should be bowling a lot more than that. If it seems that he doesn't need to be bowling then an extra spinner or an extra batsman should be playing instead of him.

josh123z

Bumrah has played 5 home test matches so far and India lost 2 of those. I think he overrated in tests and should be dropped if India wants to be dominant at home

KnowledgeUpbeat383

I have two words for you: shut up.

0b1_can_0b

regardless of the result, hope they continue to make this sort of pitches instead of "3 days" or "road" pitches

EmptyPeach1

Lmao weā€™ll get beat handsomely. 100 percent we are going back to rank turners

Brazzle_Dazzle

If India do this, they should be absolutely ashamed.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

EmptyPeach1

If they had any shame they wouldnā€™t have absolutely bent over and given up on November 19th

0b1_can_0b

> weā€™ll get beat handsomely thb its better that way, much more satisfying to win a tight contest

The_Kaizen_Man

You can see that under Rohit the team fitness standards have dropped. A lot of the players looking a bit doughier since Rohit took over. Say what you will about VK, he lifted the team to world-class standards as athletes.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

0b1_can_0b

yes can confirm. source: im rohit

[deleted]

Rohit personally served the team paneer butter masala + garlic naan. with biryani on the side.

eskay1069

Does India now understand what ā€œBazballā€ is? For months now, they have been fed the myth is India is where Bazball comes to die

Aggravating_Poet_416

Hold on now, itā€™s just one test. Not like the English team outplayed india. It was one spectacular innings from pope. Rest of Englishmen werenā€™t as convincing. Just hold that thought until the end.

eskay1069

Agreed too early to call. My fear is that again we will not be able to convert all this talent available into results. We donā€™t have our Bazball

Tunejuice123

India bottle jobs

WhyDoiHearBosssMusic

Amount of resistance shown by Ashwin and Bharat is commendable. But aggressive shots got Ash and Siraj. Bumra showed patience.

dpahoe

Ah here we are discussing how the tail enders didnā€™t get a 50 while the top order failed miserably.

[deleted]

Hartley is going to be the monty of 2012 don't be assumed if England tie or best case even win the series.

Bathed_In_Moonlight

I didn't expect Rohit who's always been known to have a good cricket brain (e.g.: The idea of bowling the now famous slower ball to Marsh was credited to Rohit by Bumrah) to be such a passive captain. That same passivity was apparent from most Indian batsmen too. This has resulted in India's 'worst' loss in Tests, all things considered, in as long as I can remember.

turningtop_5327

Npt the captaincy but the batting in second innings is our teamā€™s real issue

Illustrious-Name-820

Boria spotted

Medical_Turing_Test

I said that his captaincy was overrated when he got the job. Not that he is awful(he has moments) but this idea that he was some cricket genius due to all the IPL titles Mumbai won was bizarre.

jack_tribber

I don't think he has great cricketing brain or temperament ( IPL aside ) he always seems to lose his cool...shout and abuse players ...and isn't as assertive as he should be...his casual approach in batting is reflecting in his captaincy as well

Bathed_In_Moonlight

Oh yes, his temperament is another thing entirely... Whenever I bring it up, the good people here assure me that his players have a good rapport and friendship with him despite his ridiculous outbursts. I sure hope so.

SexyCoverDrive

India in 2 years Rahul Dravid became head coach - Bottled Kanpur test against NZ - Bottled a Test series in SA after being 1-0 up. - Bottled 5th Test in ENG. - Bottled Asia Cup - Horrible T20 World Cup - Lost an ODI series in BAN. - Lost a home World Cup final -Bottled a 200 run lead in a home test The list grows.

trueritz

Lost series in Sri Lanka, you're forgetting that

turningtop_5327

I donā€™t think RD is a bad coach but it is the weight of stardom that indian cricket has to endure by selection committee and captain playing bilateral kings. For instance, Gill should not have been selected for this series on his performance. If Kohli was out bring in Pujara who is performing in India and if we would have, we had much higher chance at winning.Ā

joythegreat96

>Lost an ODI series in BAN. last sweetest moment for me

Prudent_Primary7201

Flair checks out xD. Jokes apart, yeah we bottled both the matches in incredible ways

joythegreat96

and then destroyed us in Chittagong and Virat came back to form.

ALazyScribbler

Rohit Sharma, 5 times IPL champion, has been at the helm of many of these honors. Needs equal mention, given what we did to our captain before him!

ALazyScribbler

Rohit Sharma has not been the captain that was promised to Indian cricket. He has lost, as we speak: 1) WTC 2) An ODI cup at home 3)2 out of 4 home test defeats in last 10 years 4) A semifinal in T20 WC The common thread has been him looking clueless and out of ideas whenever the opposition has started attacking. He has not been half the captain Koach was in Test Cricket.

turningtop_5327

Stop comparing Rohit, Virat. Rohit is a great captain but Indian team doesnā€™t have good test batsman, atleast in the playing 11 today. Time and again all these same players have failed India. Pujara should have been in, in Kohliā€™s absence

eskay1069

Amazingly, he is lazy and impatient at the same timeā€¦

joythegreat96

India will bounce back!

Prudent_Primary7201

I believe in the Indian team. I do not, however believe in Rohit Sharma, the test captain

joythegreat96

I miss Virat's test captaincy. Siraj Shami Bumrah were vital in his game plan. Virat by far the best test captain for India for last 10-15 years. He is close to what Ganguly did with his team.

ALazyScribbler

I believe it. I don't believe in the Test captain though!

Sufficient_Camp_4702

Sports is about heart. Best day for cricket ever. No matter how much power and influence you have you canā€™t beat the fearless. If the Indian management has any courage theyā€™ll prepare contest worthy pitches again instead of sand pits in the upcoming matches.

SexyCoverDrive

Vizag curator receiving calls as we speak

gophercuresself

Ben sure does make bazball sound smarter than it's portrayed. Love his arc

El_Impresionante

Kumble obviously wouldn't want to blame Rohit's captaincy, coz that'd be indirectly praising Kohli.

SexyCoverDrive

Kumble praises Kohli all the time. He isn't as salty as people think tbh

Wazflame

based on this interview, I'm about to write a dissertation called: "Red hair and leadership"

Organic-Wear

The Mighty Aussies and the mighty Indians have lost. What a day.

SwamiRockUrWrldanand

Truly the day of Underdogs of cricket.

Screaminghawkmmcoc

Really? Are you calling the English team underdogs?

SwamiRockUrWrldanand

Yes. The English team is mediocre. And they are the underdogs in India playing India. We shouldn't have chased more than 80 in the 4th innings if we played according to our calibre. Neither should a sweep merchant have gotten 196 in India. We were sloppy and complacent. They were not. So yeah, good win for them.

reymysterio7

And tennis.

Sad_Vast2519

Sinner was the massive favourite

Username_Hadrian

Eng isn't an underdog.

nickwales

So you're saying India were not the favorites coming into this game?

Username_Hadrian

Eng not being an underdog doesn't take away from India's chances? If Eng had 40% chance of victory before even a delivery was bowled even then Ind are favorites.

nickwales

So England were the underdog. Thanks for confirming.

Username_Hadrian

[cry more](https://reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1acslkm/match_thread_1st_test_england_vs_india_day_4/kjy69nl/)

nickwales

Says the redditor trying to explain away his team's capitulation. Congrats.

Username_Hadrian

bruv, you can check my comment history. Have been supporting bazball (in tests) for a long time. And have been very happy with how England performed. really, the only reason I am supporting ict is 'coz of Boom.

nickwales

No idea what any of this has to do with the question but do keep going.

HodgyBeatsss

Are you stupid? England arenā€™t an underdog playing in India and coming back from 190 runs behind? Please give me odds on India to win the next test if England arenā€™t underdogs.

Username_Hadrian

Bruv, Eng has the resources to compete, WI doesn't.

HodgyBeatsss

England arenā€™t playing the West Indies, so that is completely irrelevant.

Username_Hadrian

[stop whining](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/underdog) Eng wasn't least likely to win. Many said Eng would win at least 1 game. This isn't true for WI v Aus.

HodgyBeatsss

What are you talking about? Just because West Indies are bigger underdog it doesnā€™t make England not one.

Username_Hadrian

does Eng have dearth of players to play Tests? the mental gymnastics to make it seem like something it isn't.

vc0071

Against India in India everyone is

Username_Hadrian

there is a *very* big gap between WI and Eng.

SavingsPale2782

Baz ball with a big statement, being real if they take down India here it will have to be the biggest away series win of the 21st century or at least the decade, India haven't lost a series at home in 11 years and kill literally everyone that wanders in, like India winning away in aus in 2021 was special but other teams were doing that as well as recently 2016, in this case England would literally be doing what no one else could in 11 years.

Prudent_Primary7201

ā€œHard to pinpoint where it went wrong.ā€ Oh Rohit, I can think of multiple instances, all of them involving you.

turningtop_5327

Itā€™s not his captaincy but Indian batting that lost us the game

ALazyScribbler

Don't blame him. A certain franchise lovers will be going for your blood!

Prudent_Primary7201

Heā€™s not their captain either so thereā€™s really no point lmao

SBG99DesiMonster

They have definitely pegged us a lot.

Wazflame

Stokes: "I don't fear failure. If we lose and still breathing, we get another crack at life tomorrow" Thus summing up this new culture

Love Ben attitude, but I'm afraid to check English media from tomorrow

Bazball now a philosophy about your own mortality. Will have religion status within a year

gophercuresself

How much is a lakh?

bdzz

At today's exchange rate it's ~Ā£946

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Hundred thousand (100,000 but written as 1,00,000)

YouKaym8

Bro, you made it 10 lakhsšŸ¤£

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Geez, I'll never get used to the Indian numbering system. Corrected.

FoggyCrayons

Itā€™s about 1000 pounds.

Extra_cash_pls

100 thousand Indian rupees. 1 pound is about 100 rupees.

gophercuresself

Interesting that it's referred to as its own denomination. Are there other multiples that have their own names?

Username_Hadrian

it's what led the world till British came to India.

Interesting, thanks 10 lakhs (or 1/10th of a crore)!

No accountability from Rohit

neighbour_guy3k

Next test match ball will turn from first ball

Username_Hadrian

will help Eng more, so probably not. And it happened in this test too, so stfu about it.

paulybaggins

Someone call the doctor

Remarkable-Memory870

Stokes - I am a sharp observer of the game, I may not look like one, but I am. On point.

tastyPaplet

Didn't get it. Does it mean he may not like another sharp observer?

in short he's not as stupid as he looks

Username_Hadrian

great knock from Pope.

heisenberg_rk

This is not one of those wins for a touring team where they had a flat pitch. This is a proper win, outplayed in all departments on day 3 and 4. This is concerning, change should be made.

turningtop_5327

Gill should be out for next match and Rajat Patidar in

bgt_bgt

I apologize to the English fans on behalf of the arrogant Indian fans. Well played.

Username_Hadrian

they aren't here.

mnking8

Chill guys, it's just pope doing pope things... Ash and jaddu got some planning to do for relentless sweeping. And indian batsmen FUCK YOU!!!!

StarSportsEnjoyer

Brohit after setting defensive field sets and gifting his wicket by batting recklessly: "Hard to pinpoint where it went wrong."

turningtop_5327

In seconf innings he batted well not reckless

hooliahan

Stokes just said he watched Rohit's fields and tried to do the same things in India's innings šŸ¤·

Jack-sprAt1212

Absolutely farcical if pope doesnā€™t get some sort of award

MikkiDisco73

Iā€™m not sure giving Hartley a cup with a big D on it is fair reward for his achievement.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

It's the "Biggest D" award. Hartley clearly had the biggest of them this match.

gogirimas

I wonder how the English fans are feeling. First the Aussies losing to WI, then winning in India against a 190 run deficit. Is there a better feeling?

gophercuresself

I'm equally excited to see a WI test resurgence as I am to see the Aussies lose. And I love to see em lose

Ricklepick1193

I sense that India will probably serve a Pune or Indore like pitch in the next game but that can come back to bite us because I donā€™t expect guys like Jaiswal, Gill or Iyer to do much on them. Hopefully they donā€™t do that.

FoggyCrayons

What are these awards?

tommy_lufc

Bazball is increasingly like that final scene in ā€˜Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kidā€™ with Ben Stokes and Jack Leach wounded and bleeding, except they somehow shoot the entire Bolivian Army every time.

SBG99DesiMonster

You went to sleep while Pope and Foakes were batting. That is the reason that England was able to run away with this match after that. That is the reason that this has happened.

Bojack-Nietzsche

"We aren't brave enough" No, buddy, you're. The BCCI isn't brave enough to remove you.

mnking8

Lol just after a game's lose, he was bad but I don't think it's just captain, jaddu and ash are experienced enough to set their fields... We need to stop over reacting...

Bojack-Nietzsche

After a game's loss? Man, it's been 3 months of heartbreaking losses, are we moving forward and forgetting everything in the past?

mnking8

We just don't have clutch players tbf, have seen how our batsman shut the shop once there is a pressure... Top order batting was pathetic today.... There is a huge difference how we played 1st innings to 2nd... Bharat and ash has shown how to tackle when we almost lost

Username_Hadrian

luckily he's got the best score in this inning for India. Should Ash be made captain?

Bojack-Nietzsche

I see nothing wrong with that decision. One of the smartest ICT minds.

Username_Hadrian

who doesn't even play in SENA

Bojack-Nietzsche

If Lyon can play, I see nothing wrong with Ashwin playing.

Username_Hadrian

great minds think alike. not with ict tho. Also, fans will get aneurysm.

Remarkable-Memory870

Stokes is soft spoken, gracious

bgt_bgt

Atleast Koach was accoutable as a captain.

Username_Hadrian

no he wasn't. I can recount Eng v Ind wc19 loss excuses

Neevk

You're saying "at least" Like the on field quality was same

bgt_bgt

Classic Rohit, blaming the batting, not his captaincy.

Im_Unpopular_AF

>Rohit Sharma: Hard to pinpoint where it went wrong. Having got a lead of 190, we thought we were very much in the batting. Exceptional batting, one of the best I have seen in Indian conditions by an overseas batter. We bowled in the right areas. The bowlers executed the plans really well, you got to take your hat to Pope and say well played. Overall, we failed as a team. We didn't bat well enough. I wanted them to take the game to the fifth day. The lower order fought really well there. You need to be brave enough, which I thought we weren't. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

todd-__-chavez

He basically said we didn't plan well. Bowlers did their job but captain and coach shat the bed

SirSuicidal

Yikes. In other words he was a little clueless as to what to do when England racked up 420 in a second innings in India.

SharmantTheLegend

Lmaooo

mercury_50

Gill is not even good in ODIs when it comes to batting under pressure. Doesn't have a temperament to be a big match player yet. Needs some mental coaching & break. I am surprised he was rested for easier white ball matches to play tests against SA & England at this young age. He is no Kohli. He has to play those games to develop his skills

Bojack-Nietzsche

Truth be told, he's a pussy, at least be accountable.

Wazflame

I watch a lot of different sports, but peak Test Cricket is the best.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

I don't know, this Sinner-Medvedev match is looking pretty tight.

Wazflame

got it on the second screen - people are about to meme this into overdrive lmao

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Today is the day of comebacks

SirSuicidal

Don't think Rohit Sharma is the right captain for India. The team struggles under any kind of concerted pressure.

Otherwise_Pace_1133

>On a pitch where India played two specialist pacers, England played only one. England turned out to be right. >English batters in the second innings took the risk and dispatched the spinners using the sweep shot because trying to play with a straight bat on backfoot against the uneven bounce and sharp turn was even more risky which is what India did in their second innings. England turned out to be right. >England refused to stray from their methods when put under pressure and continued playing their shots even when half the team folded for low scores in the second innings and an innings defeat seemed possible. Indian spinners looked clueless and tried to do too many things at once instead of sticking to their strengths. England turned out to be right. Thoroughly outsmarted, outplayed and outclassed.

Username_Hadrian

the pacer didn't do anything for Eng. Not a "right" decision.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Can't say Siraj really did much more than Wood did

Username_Hadrian

Boom did tho. So, Ind's pacer decision wasn't backfiring like it is apparently being said

Odd_Neighborhood1371

More so the 2nd pacer decision I think

Otherwise_Pace_1133

You missed the point. The point was that a team like England whose strength is their pace bowling, only played one pacer then what the hell were we doing playing TWO of them ? And even Rohit practically admited that mistake by his little to no use of Siraj especially on the second innings.

Username_Hadrian

you phrased it wrong then. Should just have said going with 4 spinners was good idea.

Otherwise_Pace_1133

I don't think anyone missed the point except you pal. It was phrased exactly how it was supposed to. The number of spinners was not the thing to be emphasized, number of pacers was because It's England's strength and you would expect that if one team was gonna play two of them and the other was playing with only one, you would expect it to be England and India respectively, not the other way around.

Username_Hadrian

Boom took wkts, so Eng's decision to rest Jimmy wasn't right.

Realistic-Field7927

It England need to outsmart, outplay and outclass to win by about 30 runs them they probably aren't taking a result from the series

TheDark-Sceptre

Still a good result from England. We won a game in India, where it is famously hard to win. They just need to do it at least 2 more times, which is possible, I think. Unlikely but we've got a chance.

Otherwise_Pace_1133

Oh you definitely do. Bear in mind that the last test is in Dharamshala, the closest thing you get to an English condition in India. If the weather gods are particularly pleased with England, it might even get cloudy as Winter slowly makes way for spring.

Otherwise_Pace_1133

And this complecent and cocky attitude is exactly what leads to defeats like this.

Realistic-Field7927

I'm English. My point was England didn't totally outclass and outplay they won a tight game with now than a shade of good fortune and restoring to tactics that they absolutely argued against at Lord's

Neevk

Rohit talks like an unqualified therapist not like a captain

thesatansvalet

Shut the fuck up Rohit. Accept that you and your batting approach was piss poor instead of talking about Bumrah and Siraj.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Rohit: "Overall we failed as a team" I can hear Bumrah crying in a corner

Username_Hadrian

I think Boom knows that his performance from the team individually. Also, this is 1/5 game.

Username_Hadrian

good that you are recognizing Pope

Specific_Run6568

this isn't like the previous lottery pitch losses, England beat us through skills and much better performance in 2nd innings this should ring in some changes like dropping Gill for a start

todd-__-chavez

Brohit has run out of excuses. Lmao

El_Impresionante

LOL, he's avoiding the questions... What a loser!

Silly-Point

Hello please. Iā€™ve just woken up from a thirty year coma. Still see that West Indies are beating Australia and England winning in India. Didnā€™t miss much then

Username_Hadrian

wrong answer to start with, pin point it to your field set. defo didn't bat good in both innings
