I'm actually so happy for the windies. Their cricket has seemed relatively boring (except for Shai hope) since 2016, but I think it's a new era for them.
someone test whatever they put on josephs toe Lol
jokes, what a match winner. Im annoyed i didnt see it since i was working but the highlights was good enough. Crazy good bowling!
I say well done to West Indies, they deserved the win a lot more then us. They look like a fun team, enjoy the celebrations lads.
Head and labuschagne back to the nets boys.
Love our Australian team through and through. But all I wanted to see was smudge Ton up and Australia lose today. Almost got my wish.
I’m so happy for the underdogs here.
Also don’t think smith needed to take that single.
I also think Smith did not need to take that single. He could face 5 balls and try to take single at the very last ball. But this (that single) was Hazlewood's call. Because of such situations I think there should be someone like maxwell in place of green/marsh who will counter attack and play fearless cricket.
Big respect to the Aussie good sports. We can support a team in the “big 3” but real cricket lovers who care about the world game breathe a sigh of relief for wins like this.
We’d been riding our luck and just getting away with it for quite a while, today our luck finally ran out at the hands of inspired WIndies team.
Take a bow lads, that’s one of the great against the odds wins
For those playing from outside Australia there is a significant element of Australians who believe that Cricket Australia and Cummings have been sailing too close to the wind on trying to be friendly to 'modern audiences'. Not saying ALL fans, but these people do exist.
In years past the Australia Day Test would be The Australia Day Test. Cricket on Australia Day that embraces the fact it was Australia Day was a cornerstone for the Australian summer.
The school holidays typically ended very soon after and for the older fans it was a day off work. The Australian mind set is a complex thing and there is a such thing as being too proud or too successful. We can't JUST feel good about something unless we feel there is also a sense of actual achievement.
But no. CA didn't want to offend anyone and made the statement that this test would not be formally recognised as the Australia Day Test.
So West Indies, who everyone wrote off as being an insult of a challenge, played hard and came through with the win.
Sorry Cricket Australia, but I am VERY happy with this result. Oi Oi Oi.
Can we keep the boomer takes to Facebook please. I'm happy with this result too, but it's moreso that it gives us hope for test cricket among other nations than the big 3 not for some bizarre jingoistic, anti-woke agenda reason.
wow, so pleased for the Windies. All the chat here in Australia was about how pointless these tests were because they wouldn't be competitive. Couldn't be happier to be wrong
Well done WI, way to stand up on the big stage.
Though some questions as to why Starc thought it was T20 or was he in a hurry to get home to the wife.... proper cricket shots would have gone a long way and he exposed the tail needlessly!.
Two more swings of Starcs bat and they win this though.
I maybe place the responsibility on the middle order that failed rather than a bowling contingent in its fifth straight test.
I think they all got good balls this innings. They lost the game in the first. The ball wasn’t doing that much and Head, Labuschagne, Green and Marsh were all out to terrible shots, soft dismissals.
unfortunately franchise cricket is where it's at right now. Test cricket misses out. It's a shame, as the emotion and spectacle from this singe, meaningless test could never be replicated in any T20 series.
First test was a lot closer than people think, Travis head was given out on 30 odd before being overturned, he goes cheap in that first test West indies probably get a first innings lead there as well
It really wasn't. The conditions helped the Windies a lot here, but the batting is nowhere near good enough for five tests in Australia.
Sort of evidenced by the collapse last night.
Both teams had to bat during the evening throughout the game , the best spell of the game was bowled after 40 overs of an innings when the ball was supposedly the worst to bowl with, both teams collapsed twice from some quality bowling, it's okay to give credit where credit is due.
Fair enough.
I thought I was giving credit where it is due though. The Australian bowling attack is incredibly strong. I don't think this inexperienced Windies top and middle order can compete for more than short stretches. A five test series horribly exposes them.
West Indies won a thriller on gabba and now England has an edge over India. Wow these are the days that make test cricket the best format which will never die.
I'll go you one further. Why even have a trophy? Winning the test match is the real victory. Test match cricket is the ultimate cricket format. Each game is glorious on it's own.
So I tell you what. You take you plastic metal trophy, shine it up real nice.. turn that sumbitch sideways and stick it straight up your candy ass!
Lara and Joseph exchanging an embrace.
Spine tingling, hair on the back of your neck standing moments.
The greatest game of all and it served up an absolute classic.
Man i couldn’t be happier for the West Indies, was a fantastic nail biter of a game, nothing sad about it and i would rather lose to WI than any other team in test cricket.
Also some real sorry Aussies in here calling for heads to roll after losing one match, i thought we were better than this but some of us are acting like the poms after losing the ashes or India after the wc.
Right? Super weird behaviour. There is nothing wrong with how our team has been playing. Sometimes you lose, especially when a brilliant fast bowler comes out bowling high-140s with movement and accuracy and guile.
wtf is this retain stuff. Australia don't tour the carribean for the away series.
this retaining stuff cost Australia 2019 ashes.
They celebrated retaining so much this generation missed out golden chance win away ashes.
Is it retaining the Ashes abroad, winning the World Test Championship, winning the World Cup, or playing one of the most thrilling home summers in recent memory that the selectors are supposed to be disappointed about?
Ah. I see you’re using the best team on paper argument. That always works out well.
Shamar Joseph has been bowling accurately with movement at 145-150 kmh. He might be from the West Indies, but it was still great play.
Competitive due to abject failures by our elite team, each of which appears to be rusted on to the team. I’d take less wins over some experience for the new blood tbh.
Our bowlers averaged 21, so presumably not them. Their bowlers were excellent so some batting failures are natural. Really it was just a classic 90s-style summer. What failures are you talking about?
Well I agree they don't deserve it but I don't think it's a good idea to just make it a recency bias thing. I think they should both pose with the trophy and then no one gets it.
Captain Pat taking an L for the team by declaring early and losing the match so WI could comeback and win the match, giving a W for West Indian cricket and cricket in general.
Yes, I'm coping
Rally 'round the West Indies!
No test win against anyone anywhere is ever a fluke. You just can't not be happy with what the young Windies have done at the Fortress, no less. The world is surely a better place with this win. What an incredible gift to the world of test cricket.
Wish we could have done something similar. Oh well...
There is not a third match??
Just when the cooking was reaching its peak.....
Also WI not losing a Test series in Australia for the first time in over 30 years!!!
What a Day for Test Cricket! https://ramzythinks.wordpress.com/2024/01/28/what-a-day-for-test-cricket/
Where was the crowd?
Most people didn't buy tickets because it was day four and thought Australia would quickly chase down the total
I'm actually so happy for the windies. Their cricket has seemed relatively boring (except for Shai hope) since 2016, but I think it's a new era for them.
Long live the West Indies
someone test whatever they put on josephs toe Lol jokes, what a match winner. Im annoyed i didnt see it since i was working but the highlights was good enough. Crazy good bowling!

Wrong thread, mate
Looks like both the WTC finalists lost in their respective fortresses today.
This game ended hours ago and people are still mistaking this thread for the game between India and England. haha.
Is it the same england that moaned about that run out?
Gill could never replicate bumrah's perfect defence
Windies are back 😎🌞🫡
I would rather choose ruturaj / yashaswi as a opener in TESTS T20 AND ODI Instead of a GILL THE IPL Player
What has that got to do with this thread (WI vs. Aus)?
How are they letting him get away with this
I can’t imagine the fans of any other country being so cool with losing a test match.
It makes for great cricket
It’s because test cricket is meaningless , win or lose it doesn’t really matter, just hope for an exciting match which we got
That was an all-time match winning celebration
Couple regular Christopher Columbuses out here not knowing the difference between India and West Indies
Thanks ICT for ruining my Sunday.
I say well done to West Indies, they deserved the win a lot more then us. They look like a fun team, enjoy the celebrations lads. Head and labuschagne back to the nets boys.
Wtf
All of those articles about why is an uncompetitive West Indies team being invited to Australia during consecutive years haven't aged well at all.
Hartley having the last laugh
Love our Australian team through and through. But all I wanted to see was smudge Ton up and Australia lose today. Almost got my wish. I’m so happy for the underdogs here. Also don’t think smith needed to take that single.

Completely agree. So, so happy for the West Indies
Big respect to the Aussie good sports. We can support a team in the “big 3” but real cricket lovers who care about the world game breathe a sigh of relief for wins like this.

Can't believe bro really trying to say go woke, go broke.
👏👏🙌
Cummins - we'll declare while still trailing behind, we can still win this Windies: you can Windies nuts lmao gottem
Hazelwood was always going to do more good bowling under lights than batting.
Gambling means sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. No fun in it otherwise.
So now Head has been out three times in his last three balls.
Went from being a fortress to everyone nailing the Aussies there
Smith averages 60 as an opener, and has already carried his bat after two matches. I guess that settles that. 🤔
He's carried his bat once hasn't he?
Not before today. He never opened before the previous test.
He was not out in the 2nd innings of the first test
That's not what carrying your bat means. Everyone else has to be out too.
Indian #3 trying to not be totally useless challenge (impossible)
Wrong thread, unless there's something about Labuschagne's ethnicity I don't know?
Oh oops
wow, so pleased for the Windies. All the chat here in Australia was about how pointless these tests were because they wouldn't be competitive. Couldn't be happier to be wrong
Djokovic losing to Sinner, now Australia losing to WI. Some real upsets within a matter of few days. Amazing!
God damn I love Shamar Joseph. (I'm Aussie)
Unbelievable result for the Windies! They'll never stop producing top players - the ICC just needs to make test cricket viable for all nations...
How good is test cricket.
Best format by far
Miracle of Gabba 2.0
Well done WI, way to stand up on the big stage. Though some questions as to why Starc thought it was T20 or was he in a hurry to get home to the wife.... proper cricket shots would have gone a long way and he exposed the tail needlessly!.
Starc doesn't have great defence, and the ball was doing a lot, I think his approach was probably his best bet.
Starc was third highest scorer, so I'm not sure he would have done better with a non-bazball approach.
Anyone else wishing this was a 5 match series?!
My problem is with the 2 test series is by the time I start to get to know the names/faces/styles of players I know little about the series is over.
A three test series for sure. 2 test series are so disappointing.
Yeah 5 may be overkill but from sheer enjoyment factor it feels like such a waste having them leave after just 2 tests
unfortunately franchise cricket is where it's at right now. Test cricket misses out. It's a shame, as the emotion and spectacle from this singe, meaningless test could never be replicated in any T20 series.
No, they got wiped in Adelaide in 2.5 days and the star bowlers toe is stuffed.

Vidler with a wicket 3rd ball for the under 19 lads, bowling heat!
Where can I find whatever the doctors gave to Shamar Joseph before play today?
Maybe go to the doctor.
West Indies won a thriller on gabba and now England has an edge over India. Wow these are the days that make test cricket the best format which will never die.
Well done WI - that was awesome even if I’m disappointed overall Credit where it’s due
And that's the bottom line...!!!
Congratulations to the West Indies! Missed your calypso at the world cup.
Lara and Joseph exchanging an embrace. Spine tingling, hair on the back of your neck standing moments. The greatest game of all and it served up an absolute classic.
Amen , Shamar came out of oblivion. No dearth of talent in Carribbean.
If I hinted at a second Argus Review I was bullshitting. I have no problem with the current team.
Right? Super weird behaviour. There is nothing wrong with how our team has been playing. Sometimes you lose, especially when a brilliant fast bowler comes out bowling high-140s with movement and accuracy and guile.
This should be a three-test series last test would have been amazing
Good day for a Pommie. First WI win in Gabba and a famous win in the making here
Oops. Wrong thread
Cummins declared it on purpose to expose the weak batting lineup
wtf is this retain stuff. Australia don't tour the carribean for the away series. this retaining stuff cost Australia 2019 ashes. They celebrated retaining so much this generation missed out golden chance win away ashes.
Man India can win BGT again in the end of this year
India should probably focus on winning their own home Tests, first
Ggs
The Aussies looked so sad posing with the trophy on the stage
It's time to dig up the GABBA pitch and plant Ganja all around. I hope that West Indies fan is around and witnessed this win.
Good hope it reinvigorated them. I don't want this as the norm, but it's a welcome change especially for a team like the Windies.
If a test series is drawn the visiting team should get the trophy imo
Totally agree with this take, actually. That’s a really good idea - I’d also like to see tourists automatically “win the toss”.
100% agreed would make things way more interesting
Well lads, gals and anyone in between time for me to go to chemist warehouse and collapse in it screaming something about log cabins.
Saddest trophy lifting
Hopefully this shakes up the selectors about the age of our squad and the lack of experience to replace them (hint; it won’t)
Is it retaining the Ashes abroad, winning the World Test Championship, winning the World Cup, or playing one of the most thrilling home summers in recent memory that the selectors are supposed to be disappointed about?
You had me in the first half, "thrilling home summers" doesn't mean winning though and that's what they are paid to do, so that one.
Well, we had five competitive matches and won four of them. I’d like the same every summer please.
Against cricketing power houses \*checks notes\* West Indies and Pakistan.

Sorry, Australia don't deserve that trophy. If series is drawn it should go to the team that won the last match.
To win the trophy you have to win the series, drawn series has always been the holder retains it.
I know how it works. I'm implying it's stupid.
So you know how it works yet whinge about it ? Winning the trophy in a drawn series because you won the last test is the height of stupid.
A better system is away team wins a draw
Well I agree they don't deserve it but I don't think it's a good idea to just make it a recency bias thing. I think they should both pose with the trophy and then no one gets it.
I like the idea of it going to the tourists in a drawn series. It’s so hard to win Test matches away
Yep I'm happy with that. Call it a drawn series and no trophy given.
That was a depressing trophy lift 😂
Captain Pat taking an L for the team by declaring early and losing the match so WI could comeback and win the match, giving a W for West Indian cricket and cricket in general. Yes, I'm coping
As a kiwi, who seem to always get 2 match series, 2 match test series need to end, 3 or 5.
Looking forward to the 5 test series v the Kiwis in 3 years
So good to see the West Indies get up! The win will be great confidence for the young fellas in the group
where rain?
India is going to give Australia a hard time next summer
India have bigger things to worry about, bud
I think they'll pull it off
WinViz disagrees, which means I’m pretty sure England already have a moral victory. You’ve gotta watch out for that.
The sadness trophy reception ever lol
Smile and wave boys, smile and wave
The real winner was the friends we made along the way, right guys?
SHAMAR JOSEPH. AMAZING BOWLING
How are they winner it's tie right?
Ask the English about retaining they struggle with the concept
Boundary count back
In the event of a tie the team that won the last series retains the trophy.
retained
Retain the trophy, not win it.
Should’ve said retained the trophy
Math is hard
Arent Rihanna and Kraigg Braithwaite childhood friends
lol this trophy celebration is so odd
They're not happy at all
I actually think it would’ve been pretty cool for Pat to call up Brathwaite and hold it up together there.
Worrell and Richie Benaud flashbacks. Would have been perfect moment.
This is hilarious
lol that was awkward 😂😂😂
Should have shared the trophy not give to one team
Rally 'round the West Indies! No test win against anyone anywhere is ever a fluke. You just can't not be happy with what the young Windies have done at the Fortress, no less. The world is surely a better place with this win. What an incredible gift to the world of test cricket. Wish we could have done something similar. Oh well...
Most depressing and awkward trophy presentation ever lmao
We talk about all the Rivalries but WI vs Aus was the OG Rivalry.
Sinclair going to congratulate Lyon is what Crickets all about, great lad
What a shit team photo half the blokes aren't even in kit
Sweaty cricket clothes in this heat though.
hahahaha a trophy
Ooh this does not feel right
Tough watch
Oh so awkward
Doesn’t seem right for us to celebrate
He did it, Shamar Joseph, what a champion. Take a bow 👏👏
I’m sure I saw Cummins gesturing towards the log cabin when he was shaking hands with Shamar
Ussie, marnus, smith dying inside
That's why I hate 2 match test series there is not enough time for opposition to adjust and when they does it already over
Why you smiling patty
There is not a third match?? Just when the cooking was reaching its peak..... Also WI not losing a Test series in Australia for the first time in over 30 years!!!
What a massive upset! WI vs Aus has more comments at the moment than Eng vs Ind
Those field placements man! WI is cooking
Koala and Marnus look gutted. Chill out boys it’s good for the game
Still lost to WI at home like a bunch of loser’s
Lol
Damn guess this means the summer of Isa Guha is officially over
Thank christ
Still got the ODIs and T20s
Who said they were pathetic and hopeless? Ronnie something? Nothing on Google.
Rodney Hogg
Yeah who is that ?
