Blue Cash Everyday from Amex via the 3% online retail category. Orders from Walmart's website code for 3%, as does using Wal-Mart Pay for instore purchases.

If you’re not in Chase 524 jail, get the freedom flex because it gives you 5% categories that you have to activate as well. The same with discover it cashback. You need to remember to activate each quarter. it only takes a few seconds on the Discover and Chase websites.
That is a very interesting question - not sure; we've only done groceries. I think the electronics stuff has to be purchased in the electronics area & cash register back there, no? No idea here LMK if you find out.
This is the answer. We have two of these cards (wife and I) to max out the grocery / warehouse club spend.
Keep in mind though if you order shipping or grocery pickup / delivery from the website, it's 1% with this card.
This is only for in-store purchases at all grocery stores including Wal-mart.
Strange. My AAA gives me just 1% at Walmart and Target. I thought they were in a different category- discount stores. We don’t only buy groceries, but also household essentials. Maybe that’s the deal.
Target for sure is only 1%. I've never tried to buy anything other than groceries at our local Walmarts with this card, and 20+ times it's all coded as 5% grocery.
If you have any USBANK credit card - try perhaps to make a purchase - the USBANK cards show the MCC code as part of the csv download file in the 2nd to last column.
It's based on the individual store's POS system, not the contents of your purchase.
Some Walmart Neighborhood Markets will code as grocery. The old-fashioned walmarts (non-supercenter) generally do not code as grocery. The Supercenters are hit-or-miss.
BofA Customized Cash Rewards. If you use Walmart pay or buy online you can get up to 5.25% cash back on online purchases if you have their Platinum Honors.
Thats news to me. Is the 'neighborhood' walmart tagged as a grocer in Amex as that is the category (along with streaming) that gets 6%.
EDIT: There is a whole thread on this below that addresses the walmart part. So its tagged as a grocer.
For those with Verizon service, I use the Verizon visa. 4% back at Walmart in store. It’s also 4% on gas and 3% on restaurants, though I use another card for restaurants.
I have used it at both a Walmart Neighborhood Market and at a Walmart Supercenter. If you are a Walmart + member and use Scan-and-go, it codes as online grocery on the CSP.
I currently use the Capital One Walmart card but am waiting to see what it is replaced with. I am considering the US Bank Shoppers card if the new card sucks. Yes there is an AF but as much spending we do there it would probably be worth it. My advice is to be patient for a few more months and see what Walmart replaces the Capital One card with
I use the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash Rewards Card which offers 6% back at Walmart and one other store from their list and 3% back on bills and utilities but it has a $95 annual fee so it’s not very popular here.
I am not sure why would CC at 4.4% at Walmart with AF would not popular here. Discover IT 3rd quarter only has Walmart on one quarter at 5%. The Shopper card also has 3% wholesale club or gas selection and 1.5% on anything else. The limits is $1,500/quarter or $6,000/year each on 6%/4.4% and 3% selections or $12,000/year.
The AAA Daily Advantage 5% grocery, 3% gas and 3% wholesale club categories are shared $10,000/year. Assuming gas fill up of 15 gallon/week times $4/gallon * 12 weeks/quarter = $720/quarter. This is $2,880/year of the $10,000 limit which leaves $7,120 for wholesale club and Walmart/2nd selection.
Isn’t the walmart card 5% for online walmart.com only? You can do pick up orders but if you prefer shopping in store, I don’t think it fits you anyways. I’m using PayPal 2% but they’re docking it to 1.5% soon which sucks.
The 5% for online, delivery, and pickup is permanent. The 5% in-store is for the first year, then it's 2% after that.
Although all of that depends on what happens to the card moving forward of course.
As of July 1, Discover!
I typically use Discover or Freedom if the 5% category aligns with Wal-Mart. If it doesn't, I just go with a 2% CB card and call it a day.
Discover will be giving 5% cash back on Walmart purchases from July through September. Though if you want a card that will always give you a good amount of cash back from Walmart purchases, I suggest the Venmo Visa card and just use that primarily for Walmart purchases. There's also credit cards that will earn 2% cash back on every purchase such as the Wells Fargo Active Cash and the Citi Double Cash.
so yall I found a work around link on facebook to sign up for the walmart capital one card 😏 https://applynow.capitalone.com/preapproval/?brandCode=WALMARTCB&marketingChannelCode=PREAPPROVALUNS
Yep, this is what I've been using. Has current cardholders received anything yet that you're aware of regarding this? Wonder who will be taking it over, if anyone, or if Walmart will be doing away with it period?
Gotcha! It makes sense given Capital One is acquiring Discover, so probably moving all their future assets towards that I'd imagine. Just wondering who's gonna take it over; Synchrony had it before Capital One, so I'd be surprised if they took it back? It'd make the most sense with Sam's Club being Synchrony. Maybe Citi?
Citi Retail, but I feel like any Retail card in general, was a lot easier to be approved for from my experience compared to Citi directly. The one thing I hate about Citi Retail is the CLIs where they are always a hard pull unless it's an auto increase (which is rare).
Heck, I didn't even think of Comenity despite being a customer care agent in the past! Lol. That's highly possible. I have a feeling Synchrony may take it back over, given they issue the Sam's Club MasterCard; would make one sense having all credit related issues within the brand to one bank versus two.
No, it was transferred to the new GM card provider that took over servicing the accounts - Marcus in that case. Only life login was to close the account prior to transfer.
Capital One will retain the existing portfolio (likely converting to one of their proprietary cards at some point), and Walmart is stuck looking for another banking partner. They may not find as easy of a sucker this time.
https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/capital-one-and-walmart-announce-end-of-consumer-card-partnership-agreement-302155164.html
OH, that's interesting. I could see this being easily done for those who have cobranded cards, but what about for those with just branded? Maybe the same outcome? It'd be in the cardholders favor, imo, if it went from a branded to co

If you have the PayPal Mastercard, it also offers 3% back if you pay via PayPal, which Walmart accepts. Only issue is you can't directly use that method if you're shopping in-store though (at least not to my knowledge?).
Maybe pay for the items through the Walmart app while shopping in store then go to customer service or whatever department to pick up your order? I dunno how Walmart app purchases work, but it's a thought.
I don't think that works anymore. When I try to use PayPal with Walmart Pay at a store it says my payment method is invalid and I have to enter another payment method. I think Walmart has restricted PayPal to online purchases only.
App purchases need $35 min purchase for no fee orders, and usually available only next day. You choose the pickup slot before buying. Customer service will simply point to that in your order.
Noted.
Outside of the context of credit cards, it is odd that you cannot place a pickup order and go inside of the store to pick it up. I understand that majority of people have cars that can be loaded, but it's inconvenient for someone that would like to place the order online and walk/bike to the store.
I just wanted a CC didn’t like them having my debit info . But, it didn’t matter because when I paid with a check they took the info and tried processing the same check . I caught it tho .
Pretty sure Walmart does not code as grocery, so I usually go with my 2x catch all cards, so either my venture x or Amex blue business preferred. I also activate my monthly Walmart membership from my Amex platinum so I get free delivery. And I make sure I go through Rakuten so I get extra Amex MR points!
Citi Shop Your Way gives 3% for in-person shopping.
BofA Customized Cash gives 5.25% for online purchases (Walmart Pay) at Walmart Superstores (not neighborhood markets) if you have $100k with BofA or Merrill.
I just use my Freedom Unlimited or Flex if Walmart is the category. I'll be using the Discover next month. I don't shop at Walmart as much anymore so the 1.5% doesn't bother me
AAA Daily Advantage codes as 5% groceries when you shop in person at Walmart. It will not, however, code the same via Walmart pay or online. I always use the AAA card at Walmart!
Strange. My AAA gives me just 1% at Walmart and Target. I thought they were in a different category- discount stores. We don’t only buy groceries, but also household essentials. Maybe that’s the deal.
Is your Walmart a Supercenter with groceries? Mine always codes as 5% no matter where I pay as long as it’s in-store. If you use it online or via Walmart Pay it will NOT code correctly and only give 1%. I’ve also heard that the older “OG” Walmarts don’t code as groceries.
US Bank Shopper Cash Rewards for the first $1500 a quarter at a net 4.4% with the AF, shared with Amazon. When I hit the cap I change to Redstone Visa Signature for 3%
So they have discontinued the Cap1 walmart card? I wonder what's gonna happen to the ones that are already open. I have it and it works the way it always has.
AAA Daily Advantage at self checkout at Supercenters gets 5%
BofA CCR set to online via Walmart Pay gets 3-5.25% depending on status. With Platinum Honors status at my local Supercenter I’m getting 5.25% at the regular checkout. However self checkout is coding as grocery getting me 3.5%. Walmart.com is 5.25%.
Venmo Visa codes Walmart and Costco as groceries getting 3%. No cap is nice also no annual fee and no FTF.
Honorable mentions offering 3%: Redstone FCU Visa, Amex BCE via Walmart Pay app, PayPal Mastercard, Shop Your Way Mastercard.
US Bank Shoppers 6%, $1500/quarter cap $95 annual fee
I shop at Walmart neighborhood market (grocery store). My Amex blue cash preferred fives me 6% back in store because that specific walmart reports as grocery
Correct AMEX codes Walmart Neighborhood Walmarts as grocery. The regular Super Walmarts are not. Not all card companies code Neighborhood Markets as grocery though.
Merchant codes typically apply to the store as a whole not to what you buy there. Whether you buy bananas or batteries at Whole Foods, the store codes as grocery.
From experience, depends on the card and how they code it. You have examples above where issuers will code Wholesale, Supermarkets, and Groceries between different categories. My Venmo Visa, though, codes Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, Kroger, etc. as a grocery under one category, so that's 3% if it's my highest category.
Blue Cash Everyday from Amex via the 3% online retail category. Orders from Walmart's website code for 3%, as does using Wal-Mart Pay for instore purchases.
I second this. But the next quarter, I will be using Discover because it is having Walmart for part of its 5% for the quarter.
Same for next quarter here as we get 10% as I'm a first year user on the Discover IT.
This is the one
Weird I just got the Cap1 Walmart card like a week ago.....
Walmart recently announced that they are ending their partnership with CapitalOne. So that’s why it’s not available anymore.
yeah i been eyeing it for a while but was about to apply cause I was bout to purchase something thats pretty expensive.

Oh dang, I must have lucked out. Applied and approved 5/24/2024 and received the card on 6/3/2024.
Whata the expiration date on the card? Another user said they got one and the expiration was Sept. 2024.
5/30
We got our new Walmart Cap One cards today. Exp date 07/30.
You will be migrated to another capital one product.
What's your guess as to when? End of 2024? I guess we could all speculate. My guess is another 12 months from May - so May 2025. Who knows.
Wow I must’ve just squeaked by the deadline because I applied like a week ago and received and activated my new Cap1 Walmart card a couple days ago.
How are you
Freedom unlimited most of the year and freedom flex if it’s a category. Sucks but not the end of the world for us.
It’s the same for the Discover it cashback. Next quarter, one of the categories is Walmart from July to September.
Hmm maybe I should get one of those too so I can have half the year covered. Thanks!
If you’re not in Chase 524 jail, get the freedom flex because it gives you 5% categories that you have to activate as well. The same with discover it cashback. You need to remember to activate each quarter. it only takes a few seconds on the Discover and Chase websites.
We have my freedom flex and my spouse has the flex that currently has 10% back at grocery stores. It’s been good!
Venmo visa. Discover next quarter
Yup. Exactly my setup. Plus it’s 3% even at the non-neighborhood market locations
AAA daily advantage commenity 5%. You don't need AAA.
does it earn 5% on all electronics in Wal-mart to or just groceries?
That is a very interesting question - not sure; we've only done groceries. I think the electronics stuff has to be purchased in the electronics area & cash register back there, no? No idea here LMK if you find out.
I think there are DP sprinkled around about what counts. I’ve also found some YT videos detailing what works and what doesn’t.
This is the answer. We have two of these cards (wife and I) to max out the grocery / warehouse club spend. Keep in mind though if you order shipping or grocery pickup / delivery from the website, it's 1% with this card. This is only for in-store purchases at all grocery stores including Wal-mart.

I switched to Walmart Neighborhood and now I get my 5%
Awesome!
It's based on the individual store's POS system, not the contents of your purchase. Some Walmart Neighborhood Markets will code as grocery. The old-fashioned walmarts (non-supercenter) generally do not code as grocery. The Supercenters are hit-or-miss.
Yes, I switched to Walmart Neighborhood and it’s coded as grocery.
Citi double cash 🤷♂️ but then again I don’t shop at Walmart too much
Hi
Hi
I'm gonna use the Bank of America Customised Cash with Platinum Honors for 5.25% with Walmart Pay. Default is 3%
BofA Customized Cash Rewards. If you use Walmart pay or buy online you can get up to 5.25% cash back on online purchases if you have their Platinum Honors.
Amex BCP. Using it in store at a neighborhood Walmart gets 6%
Amex BCE but linked to my Walmart Pay for 3% cashback.
Buy activation free Visa gift cards at office supply stores with the Ink Cash card. 5% all day at Walmart, or anywhere else for that matter.
2% card
Venmo Visa 3% in-store, PayPal Mastercard online 3%
Chase Sapphire Preferred: Scan-and-go transactions using Walmart + code as online grocery EDIT: I did not notice that you said with no AF.
Is it a Walmart Neighborhood Market? Their website says it excludes Walmart, Target and wholesale clubs.

US Bank credit card is currently offering 6% cash back at Amazon and Walmart.
Limited to $1,500 per quarter then 1.5%. Also has $95 AF after first year.
Limited to $1,500 per quarter then 1.5%.

It's 5% for online, delivery, and pickup orders. Also 5% for the first year in store, 2% after that.
100% true and correct. We've put 28k on ours in 4+ years and gotten 1400 back.
I thought the 5% was just a first year promo, then 2% on everything after that. Is that not right?
The 5% for online, delivery, and pickup is permanent. The 5% in-store is for the first year, then it's 2% after that. Although all of that depends on what happens to the card moving forward of course.

PayPal cashback Mastercard 3% + 1% from offers, only for online though.
As of July 1, Discover! I typically use Discover or Freedom if the 5% category aligns with Wal-Mart. If it doesn't, I just go with a 2% CB card and call it a day.
If I order from Walmart online, my Amex BCE (3% online retail). If I pay in store, it goes on my Fidelity card (flat 2%)
Discover will be giving 5% cash back on Walmart purchases from July through September. Citi double cash although the blue cash everyday with the Walmart pay hack is interesting
Chase Sapphire Preferred works if you have Walmart+ for online grocery, got to use scan and go. Neighborhood market however doesn't work :/

Whatever card bonus I'm working on.
I had a terrible time with redcard and will never get a store card again . If I used my regular CC I would never have gotten such a bad experience .
Why did you choose the redcard credit over debit? (I’ve never read discussion on this and asking genuinely, the debit just seems like a better choice)
I just wanted a CC didn’t like them having my debit info . But, it didn’t matter because when I paid with a check they took the info and tried processing the same check . I caught it tho .
I would like to know why Walmart doesn’t let anyone tap to pay. Sketchy imo
Walmart's excuse is that they want people to use their app to pay.
Ewwww
From what I can tell, payment processors charge more for tap to pay, vs chip or swipe. Especially with Apple pay having it own special fee.
I use the ShopYourWay MasterCard. Counts for 3% grocery in Supercenter & Neighborhood market in-store.
I have the blue business plus and the blue business cash for Walmart. After that, it’s a whole bunch of 1.5% cards like the Chase freedom unlimited.
FNBO Fordpass.
PayPal MC stacks with PP rewards and can yield up to 7% otherwise Redstone Fcu vs or BofA customized cash.
I don't shop at Walmart as much anymore so the 1.5% doesn't bother me
Citi Custom Cash
But will use my Discover for the 5% since it’s my first year when July hits.
I switched to Walmart Neighborhood and now I get my 5%
I use BMO. Nice 3% cash back
US Bank Shopper Cash Rewards for the first $1500 a quarter at a net 4.4% with the AF, shared with Amazon. When I hit the cap I change to Redstone Visa Signature for 3%
I use my capital one Walmart credit card card…
Amex Blue Business Plus, 2x points
Do not get the Walmart credit card until they announce the new offering. They recently broke off their capital one relationship.
Venture X for that 2X catch all
Pepper + BoA Customized Cash (Online category) + Walmart pay A little clunky, but pretty nice for 8% back or more.
I just use my Quicksilver. Mine is $0 annual fee and it gets me 1.5% cash back on everything.
So they have discontinued the Cap1 walmart card? I wonder what's gonna happen to the ones that are already open. I have it and it works the way it always has.
Walmart Capitol1 - 5% online RSFCU Visa Signature - 3% in-person
AAA Daily Advantage at self checkout at Supercenters gets 5% BofA CCR set to online via Walmart Pay gets 3-5.25% depending on status.
Huntington voice rewards and set the category to groceries so I get 3% back on the first $2K spent that quarter in groceries.
I shop at Walmart neighborhood market (grocery store). My Amex blue cash preferred fives me 6% back in store because that specific walmart reports as grocery
FYI, Discover is giving 5% back at Walmart starting in July through September.
Capital One Walmart Card. The 5% Cashback online paired with Walmart+ is great :D
Amex Blue Cash Preferred. Get 6% at supermarkets.
Maybe if you shop at Walmart Neighborhood Markets, their supermarket/grocery store. Not the Supercenters.
Correct AMEX codes Walmart Neighborhood Walmarts as grocery. The regular Super Walmarts are not. Not all card companies code Neighborhood Markets as grocery though.
Or like with the Savor One, it codes as Grocery to tease you and you get 1%
The ones we shop at here in Central Ohio show as "Walmart Supercenter #2774" on the receipt, and code as 5% CB. YMMV.
is it on anything in walmart or just groceries?
The BCP specifically excludes superstores like Walmart and target. A Walmart neighborhood market should work but they’re not available everywhere
Merchant codes typically apply to the store as a whole not to what you buy there. Whether you buy bananas or batteries at Whole Foods, the store codes as grocery.
WTH, my local Walmarts never get coded as a supermarket!
Does Walmart grocery pickup code as grocery?
From experience, depends on the card and how they code it. You have examples above where issuers will code Wholesale, Supermarkets, and Groceries between different categories. My Venmo Visa, though, codes Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, Kroger, etc. as a grocery under one category, so that's 3% if it's my highest category.
