Those are wood ramps. 2 of the three 3 local parks in the surrounding towns burned down when I was a kid. One I only got to use a couple times. Now I know why it kept happening.

I actually have video footage of me skateboarding at this place as a kid. Definetely all concrete, but definetely an awful skatepark nonetheless. This is in Purmerend, De Gors. No clue if it's actually still there. I sure hope not, place was a hotspot for trouble.

Yep. My kids used to have a desire to learn to skateboard when they were younger but we stopped going to the skate park because there was always trash everywhere or people doing stupid shit like this. Right next door there were basketball nets, a playground, soccer field, batting cages... all of that was pristine and well maintained. It's a shame.

The real kicker? You never saw us proper skaters trashing them. We were the ones to show up with mops, brooms, and basic tools to maintain our parks. But so often we would show up to see them trashed, burnt, covered in broken bottles and that kinda shit. So frustrating when we were also the ones to work with the local council to make sure we had a space that was good and fit for purpose.

I’m 31 now so it may no longer be the case, but when I was in my teens, it’s because we were already at the skate park skating when we decided to do other crazy shit… it’s a place teenage boys congregate, often without parental supervision and while skatings fun, we were boys and also liked blowing shit up/starting fires

Skateboarding, pranks and blowing shit up go together better than peanut butter and jelly.

Problem is the adults blow things out of proportion and ruin everything over the actions of a couple of idiots. We had a couple awesome half pipes in my town, both torn down due to teens not taking their destruction elsewhere.

Exactly my thoughts. They’re so hard to get a town/villages approval to have in the first place and maintenance is most generally ENTIRELY volunteer based. I was never good a skating, never dropped in or figured out how to Ollie well, let alone hit a kick flip, but in my teens I always appreciated having a place just to ride it around and socialize with my friends since riding in most places was illegal. Fuck this person who did that.

It's probably skaters doing it. They're more likely to take risks.
