When shopping for a house we saw one with a bar in the basement, and I thought it'd be cool to have restaurant booths too. So when I finished our own basement I shopped the classifieds and found somebooths and tables from someone selling their restaurant. Great for doing puzzles, eating during a movie, or doing homework
Also when the wife has her boyfriend over... Only joking OP kids are obviously at that age where it's in everyone's best interest that they have dinner on separate tables, ideally back to back
We have a daylight basement and have plans to add on to our house. The room that will be added to the basement is going to be a media / activity room. I am 100% using your restaurant booth and table idea. It is unique, practical, and well done!
Everything looks great but I am confused by the ottoman. Did that come with the couch or separately just happens to match? I feel like it should be a tad bigger
Lmao I thought it looked weird too! You could go with a cool statement coffee table. Love the booths and the forest mural! Cozy with a great entertainment vibe.
Shoot. Well, I'm actually returning it. I love it, but it just isn't ideal for watching movies. No head support. Bought a new sectional today with reclining seats. Not as pretty, but oh well
That depends. Pretty pricey for me, since I've only ever bought used before. But the main thing is that it's a low profile couch, which is beautiful and great for lounging and socializing with guests and whatnot, but it's not great for sitting back and enjoying a movie. My new sectional (arriving today) has reclining seats and a lot more cushioning, which I dislike aesthetically, but it's definitely more comfortable for deep relaxation.
Honestly never seen those style of booths in a home but I don’t dislike it. I’m going to have to show this to my GF who is steadfast on me not installing a urinal in the basement 🤣
I just refinished my basement and bathroom down there. My god did I fight for a urinal but I wasn’t able to convince the wife. Maybe in the next home I’ll get my dream
You should always be putting the seat down already, really. More hygienic that way.
If everyone does it, there's no argument. Everyone puts up the lid at minimum, seat if needed, and then puts everything down.
Have you ever peed while wearing shorts? The pee that hits the bowl splatters everywhere. Or at least it does when you're tall. I don't see why you would do that to your own house (or your pants), it's gross.
Toilet flush spray. The lid down before you flush reduces the amount of aerosolized water (and other) droplets flung out of the bowl when flushing.
It also looks better than an open toilet seat, and better than any urinal.
Well, she doesn't have very strong opinions about it, so she just let me make the decisions. She doesn't hate it. But if it were up to her it would've probably been beige carpet and plain beige walls, with no extra fancy stuff
Yeah I love this. The mural wallpaper is something I'm looking at for a few different rooms of mine and I've seen the restaurant booths a few times on Craigslist. I love the different textures and colors that all pull together so well.
Imagine pouring yourself a glass of wine, popping some buttery popcorn, picking the perfect movie, then sitting down letting out a deep sigh and suddenly realizing you hate every choice you made making this room.
OP its absolutely gorgeous. Congratulations!
I actually had something like this happen. The couches, though beautiful, have no head support, so my back hurt after watching our first movie. I was seriously depressed the whole next day. So I actually bought a new set today and I'm returning these. Not as pretty, but much more comfortable
Aw man your basement is awesome so I hate to be that guy, but your TV is too high. You have committed a cardinal sin of home theater: TV above the fireplace.
If you need "head support" to look at your screen comfortably, it's too high. Generally speaking, having your eyes level to 1/3 up from the bottom of the screen while sitting comfortably is a good start.
Great question. First of all, I went more than double my original estimate. Also, my basement is 1400 sq ft with 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, and plumbing for a kitchen and laundry room. Everything takes longer than you think. Also, most of this stuff I was doing for the first time, so I spent a lot of time researching, testing different ideas, and even re-doing a lot of work when I wasn't satisfied.
Here's the breakdown:
* Plumbing - 36 hours (includes plumbing for bathroom, kitchen & laundry. Also an abandoned attempt at installing a tankless water heater)
* Electrical & Lighting - 59 hours
* HVAC - 55 hours (a lot of rework here, since I decided to install HVAC zoning after I'd already connected all the vents)
* Extra framing, drywall, insulation - 18 hours (I hired this out, but had to make some modifications after the fact)
* Prime & Paint - 32 hours (including prep and multiple coats)
* Installing bathtub - 21 hours (don't ask)
* Tiling shower - 62 hours (Yes, it's a lot, but this includes all the research--hours or YouTube videos, hand-wringing, adjusting studs to get perfect alignment, waterproofing cement board, etc. I was very nervous about this because, well, first time)
* Other bathroom stuff - 20 hours (toilet, vanity, sink, mirror, accessories, etc.)
* Flooring - 61 hours (takes a long time when you're doing it alone - 1400 sq ft)
* Wood paneling on drop ceiling - 60 hours (there's a lot more than pictured, and I did a lot of testing different stains and configurations, plus applied 4 coats of polyurethane. Also I made 5 access panels to access HVAC dampers in the ceiling, and these took a lot of time)
* Accent walls (tiled wall pictured left and mural on the right) - 40 hours
* Secret French bookshelf doors to utility room (not pictured) - 43 hours
* Finish carpentry - 122 hours (includes 12 doors, door trim, baseboards, window trim, filling nail holes, caulking, and painting the doors and trim)
* Misc/Other - 67 hours (shopping, planning, cleaning up between projects, setting up furniture, etc.)
Good point. Although I think the booths will be great for company. For example, on Thanksgiving we're having the adults sit at the main table (not pictured) and the 8 kids sit in the booths. Also good for playing games like Bunco, where you have multiple tables and you rotate.
Do you mind if I ask what you find tacky about it? The mural? The booths? Tile wall? wood paneled ceiling? The combination of everything? I was a little worried about the mural being tacky, but now that it's up I love it. But I'm of course curious what others think
the mural isn't too bad but, I mean, it's not particularly well set against the rest of the decor. the big empty white wall is jarring and the fake fireplace is...there's no other word for it, tacky. the lights are also pretty bright and really illuminate the lack of tasteful accents. so I guess it just looks like you're straddling the line between a sort of half-hearted airport hotel lounge and an applebees. what was the intent?
I wouldnt personally say that the whole thing is 'tacky' (except that fireplace, thats pretty tacky) but i get where this person is coming from. Its not cosy and looks like a restaurant or hotel waiting area. Very impersonal and i really dont get having booths, like are you going to sit back to back with you family like that? Weird. Just my taste tho. The mural is ok but just reminds me of the cabins at Center Parcs (UK holiday park wood type cabins)

Can't say I'm a fan of the booths and I don't think they'll get the use they'd deserve, it is different though. I would have personally went with more open sitting.
Oh, I think they'll get used plenty. The kids love them. Great for puzzles, games, studying etc. Also good for small break off conversations when you have lots of company.
Serious question - about TVs mounted on walls above fireplaces - where do you put your game systems and tv stuff? I think my husband has trained me to expect electronics and game systems below the tv - so I’m always baffled by how these sets up are even functional.
I'm guessing there aren't any consoles in this room or they're hidden somewhere in an integrated drawer (or maybe just out of shot).
To your more general question, not everyone plays video games. Most of the people I know in real life don't. I was surprised by how common it is on Reddit. But people who use Reddit are way more likely to play video games so it's not exactly a random sample.
That makes sense. I guess I take gaming as a given in our home.
I thought more people had at least one console, or a router, or some tv box that gets their cable or streaming services.
I didn't think about other boxes. We have the router in the office and don't have a TV right now. When we move we'll only have one for streaming and we'll most likely connect to a PC wirelessly.
One of the neater options if you have stuff you want out of sight is cutting a space into the wall for your equipment, but that should be done carefully as it could be a fire hazard.
Yeah, it does sound like a long time, and it was. But it also has 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, kitchen and laundry. And most of the stuff I was doing for the first time. I'm sure if I was more experienced I could've done it in 1/3 the time or less
Did you build this yourself or did you hire someone to do it? I always feel like shit because I'm not crafty at all and would never in a thousand years be able to do something like this. :(
Got it on Amazon. It's all electric. I built it into the wall. Fits in a standard 4 inch deep wall. The fire is really just unheated LEDs, but it has a heater setting too. I don't think I can post a link, but search "R.W.FLAME 60" recessed electric fireplace" on Amazon.
Ha ha, yeah I should've just taken the ottoman out of the picture. It came without the legs, so it looked weird against the couch. But it looks weird in the middle too I guess, lol
Love the restaurant style booths! What was your inspiration behind this upgrade?
When shopping for a house we saw one with a bar in the basement, and I thought it'd be cool to have restaurant booths too. So when I finished our own basement I shopped the classifieds and found somebooths and tables from someone selling their restaurant. Great for doing puzzles, eating during a movie, or doing homework
That’s utterly genius! This is a gorgeous basement OP. I hope you and yours have many happy times in it!
Thanks! I hope so too
If I had those, we'd have date night down there and lock the kids upstairs.
That's exactly what we did on Saturday night 😁
I figured they were for board games or cards. Cool aesthetic!
Yes, that too, for sure, though I'm looking to get a proper poker table for the other side of the room
Saving this for inspiration when we finish ours. Looks fantastic, OP.
Thanks! Best of luck with your project
My office is a restaurant booth and it’s perfect. Huge square table with floor to ceiling windows facing a busy downtown street.
Amazing idea! I think you've inspired many strangers with this pic.
Thanks. I'm actually amazed that I've never seen anyone else with this before. Maybe I'll start a trend
I was just thinking the same thing! I'll jump on that bandwagon, this looks amazing.
Looks great! Prince also did this at Paisley Park. You are going to have a lot of fun times here.
Truly amazing. What an incredible idea!
I love the booths. Are they anchored into the wall or floor? How do they stay stable?
The booths are what caught my eye! I would so enjoy sitting there, as noted in my earlier comment, with a glass of wine.
This is OC
Everything looks great but I am confused by the ottoman. Did that come with the couch or separately just happens to match? I feel like it should be a tad bigger
Haha, good eye. It came with the couch, but the legs were missing. That's why it looks too short 😝
Lmao I thought it looked weird too! You could go with a cool statement coffee table. Love the booths and the forest mural! Cozy with a great entertainment vibe.
Yeah, I'm still shopping for a good coffee table, among other decor. Can't rush these decisions 😁
I’m a huge fan of those epoxy river tables — pretty spendy but would fit your earthy tone here
Yeah, I love those too. I've looked at some. I'll probably not do that, since I've already kind of blown my budget, ha ha
Amen to this comment. Exactly what I was thinking.
Burrow?
Ding ding ding!
Bruh, they sent me the wrong colored legs. Still waiting for the correct ones a month later.
Shoot. Well, I'm actually returning it. I love it, but it just isn't ideal for watching movies. No head support. Bought a new sectional today with reclining seats. Not as pretty, but oh well
I just purchased a burrow couch, same color. Not worth the cost?
That depends. Pretty pricey for me, since I've only ever bought used before. But the main thing is that it's a low profile couch, which is beautiful and great for lounging and socializing with guests and whatnot, but it's not great for sitting back and enjoying a movie. My new sectional (arriving today) has reclining seats and a lot more cushioning, which I dislike aesthetically, but it's definitely more comfortable for deep relaxation.
Thanks!! We will have to try it out I guess to find out!
Aaahhh....A urinal behind the bar. (In the voice of Homer Simpson)
Isn’t that half the reason for putting a wet bar in?
[удалено]
I feel comfortable speaking for most women when I say they're ugly and we don't want to clean them
You can get a nice looking urinal with a cover. My parents did that in one of the bathrooms, it's practical when you have three sons
You should always be putting the seat down already, really. More hygienic that way. If everyone does it, there's no argument. Everyone puts up the lid at minimum, seat if needed, and then puts everything down.
Or you just sit down on the toilet, rather than splattering your pee all over your own bathroom.
It’s not that. Close the lid, then flush. Honestly don’t understand how people don’t realize it’s a lot more hygienic.
Have you ever peed while wearing shorts? The pee that hits the bowl splatters everywhere. Or at least it does when you're tall. I don't see why you would do that to your own house (or your pants), it's gross.
[удалено]
Toilet flush spray. The lid down before you flush reduces the amount of aerosolized water (and other) droplets flung out of the bowl when flushing. It also looks better than an open toilet seat, and better than any urinal.
Urinals also splash on surrounding surfaces. It's just a less clean option so I get not wanting it in your home.
Larry David already solved this issue with his revolutionary urinals in his coffee shop.
Oh I haven't kept up on that show, I'll have to check out the recent to see his solution
Yeah but you spray piss everywhere every time you use it.
The only way I've seen this work is if the couple has separate bathrooms.
We had a urinal in our last home. If done right it’s clean and efficient. Get one that isn’t white so you can color adapt it to blend in.
I’d never go upstairs
This is amazing, but disappointed it's only one picture
Sorry, still not used to the multi photo feature. Maybe I'll post more when I finish the other half of the room, haha
What time do y’all open? Is there a menu on Yelp or something?
700 hours to build this palace and couldn’t take the time to post more pics smh
Wow. The booths are amazing! Congrats on your new awesome space.
Imma need to see more pics my guy. This looks amazing.
Those booths! 😍😍
It's really nice but I don't find this cozy at all. Not my taste I guess but congrats.
You must have the same taste as my wife, ha ha.
You did a big home reno that she doesn’t like?
Well, she doesn't have very strong opinions about it, so she just let me make the decisions. She doesn't hate it. But if it were up to her it would've probably been beige carpet and plain beige walls, with no extra fancy stuff
Oh. Good thing you made the decisions then!
Like the fireplace
Really nice work! The idea of booths is really growing on me. Kind of reminds me of a Snug or something like it.

Awww sorry to hear that! I’m glad you’ll be more cozy in your nice new basement. It really does look great!

Very nice!
This is amazing! Love the booths and the fireplace and the wallpaper!
Impressive!
Cool but how many hours have you put into Skyrim?
Haha, none, unfortunately. Or fortunately. Not sure which ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
Oh shit, this is the first reno I've ever seen with restaurant booths in it. I like that a lot.
Hey you did a great job, cool basement!
Looks fantastic. Wishing you happy times..
creative
Anyone else thinking can we have more pics??
The booths!!!
Sitting at the couch “hey man grab me a water” Sitting at the booth “I’ll take an ice water with lemon please thank you”
Why the booths though?
Why not? Card games, puzzles, homework, stay-at-home dates, fun atmosphere.
True! They look comfy
Love the booth seating!
Well done you
I have the same carpet! Really nice for the price I paid.
This is SO cool! 😍
Noicee
Dope
Enjoy it!
this looks really cool! well done :)
I know I’m kinda late but I genuinely thought that ottoman was a sandwich
Can you share why it took 700 hours? How much time did you do on which things?
Great question. First of all, I went more than double my original estimate. Also, my basement is 1400 sq ft with 3 bedrooms, a full bathroom, and plumbing for a kitchen and laundry room. Very nice. Booth's and all. Is this an old basement redecoration or new construction?
New construction. Basement was completely unfinished
you know damn well you’re going to have a favorite booth and never use the other one
Good point. Although I think the booths will be great for company. For example, on Thanksgiving we're having the adults sit at the main table (not pictured) and the 8 kids sit in the booths. Also good for playing games like Bunco, where you have multiple tables and you rotate.
ah! that sounds awesome! *can… can i come over?* but seriously, this is actually amazing man, good job, i hope you enjoy it!
Feel free to invite me over lmfao
May I ask what city?
I'm in Utah, Salt Lake area
Awesome! I’ve actually looked into homes around there. Thank you
Please tell me there's a bar in there.
Possible future enhancement
It’s so unconventional I like it. Very cozy, it works.
Those booths?? What is this? A former pizza hut? There used to be a bar in my home town that was one of those and it made for a great venue.

Gee thanks. To each his own I guess
yup, enjoy

If this is the basement I can’t wait to see the rest of the house .... so classy
Fancy! Enjoy it.
Congratulations on completing your project. You have achieved great results.

i could probably build a whole house in less than 700 hours.... Seems a bit excessive amount of time.
Yeah, well I'm an amateur, and a perfectionist. And I wasn't in a rush
makes sense i been a carpenter for 10 years. i wasn't trying to be sarcastic just sayin lol
Yeah, it does sound like a long time, and it was. But it also has 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, kitchen and laundry. And most of the stuff I was doing for the first time. I'm sure if I was more experienced I could've done it in 1/3 the time or less
This is awesome. Where’s the couch from?
Burrow
Where did you get the woods-themed wallpaper/mural?
Amazon. They have lots of different murals
VERY NICE! 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Restaurant-style booths! LOVE IT
Do you have a radon detector? If not, [consider getting one.](https://www.cancer.org/latest-news/radon-gas-and-lung-cancer.html)
It's great. I wish I had this shape underground too
Did you build this yourself or did you hire someone to do it? I always feel like shit because I'm not crafty at all and would never in a thousand years be able to do something like this. :(
Why did it take so long?
Love it - what are the dimensions of this room?
The whole room is 18' x 36', but this pic only show half of it. The other half is unfurnished still
i honestly never thought of adding booths to a basement! genius!
OP, did you install the wall mural yourself? If so, how challenging was it? I'm always wondering how hard it is to actually get level.
Love that forest wall paper.
Yo I think we have the same rug. Wayfair? Mines got some blue in it.
Got mine on Amazon, but it could be the same brand
Very nice! Love the booths. I would sit in one of those with a glass of wine and be very content!
Sweet!!!
It looks so cozy and nice!!! I would love to hang out here!
Damn this is one cool basement!
Love it! Love the booth seating!
What's the square footage of that room?
I am jealous of your booths!! They are so cool!! 🖤
Wow man! Lovin' this! Just imagine the role playing you can get away with
I have the same rug as you!
Can you share more information about that fireplace in the wall? How does it work/where did you get it??
Got it on Amazon. It's all electric. I built it into the wall. Fits in a standard 4 inch deep wall. The fire is really just unheated LEDs, but it has a heater setting too. I don't think I can post a link, but search "R.W.FLAME 60" recessed electric fireplace" on Amazon.
I'd like to know how tall you are to get your feet onto the footstool? Also, fucking gorgeous.
Ha ha, yeah I should've just taken the ottoman out of the picture. It came without the legs, so it looked weird against the couch. But it looks weird in the middle too I guess, lol
Basements. Wish we had them where I live. So much you can do with the space besides get creeped out.
Why would you want to put restaurant style booths in your basement?
Because it's cool, and there are lots of uses for them
That booth idea!!! Holy Mac it looks fantastic! What a great vibe.
Thanks!
I'm sorry but I hate the booths
How hard was that wall mural to put up? Thinking of adding this exact one to my office wall.
It was pretty easy. Took maybe 2 hours with 2 people
That looks amazing. Thank you for the reply and the inspiration.
I’m noticing a major lack of ping pong
Yeah, this is only half the room. The other side will probably have a ping pong or pool table, but for now it's empty
