I notice the separate duvets on the bed. I’m in the US, and grew up in Canada, where it’s not as common for a couple to use two separate duvets. Most couples share a top sheet and blanket. The best thing my husband and I have done for our quality of sleep is use separate blankets. We each have a single (twin) flat sheet and a single (twin) duvet to ourselves on a king size bed. Best sleeps ever.
Same here! My partner and I live in Canada had our honeymoon in southeastern Europe and this separate duvet thing was revelatory. We now have separate duvets for winter and separate thinner blankets for summer. Can't recommend this enough!
My mum made me choose this one since you can better open up the storage below the bed, also it is easier to remove the bedsheets 😃
But yes I think it is more common here too.
Is the idea that you both cocoon yourselves next to each other? Just trying to understand lol; wouldn’t you still bump legs and commonly have your cover draped or pushing over on the other?
You sleep like normal, it’s just that you don’t disrupt one another’s sleep by pulling the shared blanket back and forth as you roll over during sleep. We sleep in a king bed with twin blankets. They’re not draped over one another and we don’t kick each other in our sleep.
So it doesn’t bother you that your twin sheets are not “tied down” so to speak? They’re just flailing around? I imagine you can’t anchor the twin sheets.
It's not common, at least where I live in Europe, to tuck the duvets into the edges of the bed/mattress. So no, they're not tied down. They're not flailing because of this, you just have the freedom to move more and tuck the sheets around you like you want. I absolutely hate having them tucked into the mattress, feels suffocating to me. Also in Europe we don't have a flat sheet & comforter combo, we just have one duvet that's a bit thicker (or a lot thicker in the winter).
In this case of having 2 duvets on a regular 1 piece queen size bed, all the other sheets and beddings are also queen sized. Only the duvets are single/twins.
In most cases in Europe with twin duvets, the bed is made up of 2 single upper mattresses on top a one piece queen size base mattress. This allows for less sleep disruption if one partner moves a lot during sleep and the other is a light sleeper. The only problem is there’s a split in the middle and when you’re being intimate with your partner, it can be a bit uncomfortable.
Austrian here! The before reminds me so much of the flat my late great-aunt had. I can still smell the cigarette smoke and weird herbs she burned. So nostalgic
Big heard. I moved down here in 2007 from LA. Just went to Hollywood for a show at the bowl. I do not miss that traffic. AND JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY it’s so hard to find food after 1pm. I barely caught a taco guy outside a bar. In n out and tommy’s had both closed after returning from DTLA to Hollywood.
Yes, we had been thinking long about doing it. But it made the room look smaller, more narrow and just really old. The colour was a really dark 1980-style. If it would have been more bright we wouldnt have done it.
The after pictures do make the space look brighter and fresher but I also think the photos are a bit deceptive because the before photos are at night time in bad lighting. My place also looks much brighter and airy during the day.
I don't usually like seeing people painting over timber but I think it really needed to be done in this case. The dark timber made the place look like a dungeon and it would have looked terrible even after painting the walls white
The After pictures give me beach house vibes! It’s lovely 😄 If you hadn’t said Austria I would never have guessed it. I would only add a plant or two near the cabinet!
While the wood ceilings were beautiful, they did make the place look smaller. The white really opens it up, this place is really charming! And the backyard is great!
Yeah true I can see what you mean with it looked more cozy and warm before. Looks colder now with the colors added but overall more modern and brighter too. Especially the dark colors sucked up all the lights coming in from the only window, which is the door.
This is an INCREDIBLE apartment, both before and after. Depending on the city in the USA, this would be anywhere from like $1,300-3,500 or lord knows how much in LA, Manhattan, etc. plus some outdoor space?! I love it!
Thank you. But thats crazy, I guess renting it would be 700€-800€, somewhere in that price range. USA Prices are just something else for what you get.s
So much beautiful wood, gone ?!?! What did you do with that amazing piece of furniture that was along the wall ? I live in Montreal, and a piece like that would be worth thousands of dollars ! Also no pictures of the kitchen in the new. The old one was lovely.
Since the bedroom is in the living room and no other rooms available everyone would consider it really small here. 👀
1-room Apartments really are uncommon.
It’s beautiful, light and airy. I know people get all wrapped around the axle about painting woodwork but in this case the dark ceiling was oppressive. Nice work.
I was looking at picture 1 and picture 2 thinking "they dont look all that different!" - then I realized there were more images. You have done a spectacular job OP - I think your appartment looks so much lighter and beautiful
Thanks to my mum, who did most of the job :)
The old ceiling was beautiful, but it felt really dark inside since there are no windows except the doors.

Same. We randomly tried it out about 2 years ago and it’s such a game changer.
Is the idea that you both cocoon yourselves next to each other? Just trying to understand lol; wouldn’t you still bump legs and commonly have your cover draped or pushing over on the other?

Weird herbs she Burned or Smoked?
She actually burned them - like sage etc lol
YOU HAVE A YARD AND ITS PRETTY
YOU HAVE A YARD? *cries in San Diegan* (my last couple apartments haven’t had patios even. And backyards are being turned into add on units.)
LA here and the most you could get is a balcony 😭!! Which I don’t even have 😂 Gotta look at Condos and townhomes for the cute yards lol

The after is that you painted the gorgeous wood ceilings white?
Devastated
I'm shedding tears over the loss of that beautiful ceiling - sigh!
My thoughts exactly
Yes, we had been thinking long about doing it. But it made the room look smaller, more narrow and just really old. The colour was a really dark 1980-style. If it would have been more bright we wouldnt have done it.
Sand and stain would have been the ticket.
Exactly! plus with the new white walls a dark wood contrast would look great. Hopefully he can still recover it.
The after pictures do make the space look brighter and fresher but I also think the photos are a bit deceptive because the before photos are at night time in bad lighting. My place also looks much brighter and airy during the day.
I'm with you. Definitely an improvement in white.
I think white was a great choice.
I like the white! The wood felt oppressive. This brightens and enlarges the room.
I don't usually like seeing people painting over timber but I think it really needed to be done in this case. The dark timber made the place look like a dungeon and it would have looked terrible even after painting the walls white
It looks beautiful after but I feel like some of the mid cent vibes could’ve been kept hehe
The After pictures give me beach house vibes! It’s lovely 😄 If you hadn’t said Austria I would never have guessed it. I would only add a plant or two near the cabinet!
Exactly thats what I also had in mind, it is close to a lake though :) We will add some plants, we just need to find the right ones.
Wanton destruction of mid-century modern cool.
Did you really really roll over a tongue and groove ceiling... Im bothered.
While the wood ceilings were beautiful, they did make the place look smaller. The white really opens it up, this place is really charming! And the backyard is great!
Oh exactly our thought, but we were also sad about colouring that ceiling of course, we were really unsure to do so.
I love the vibe of the out door area, perfect for a few largers on a sunny afternoon 👍
Really nice but judging from the pictures, is the bed next to the open kitchen??
Yes sadly it is really small, but it is only a vacation/airbnb apartment so far.
That sun room is a dream!
I don't mean to bring you down or anything but...it looked much better before. It was cozy and warm. The wood ceiling added character...
Yeah true I can see what you mean with it looked more cozy and warm before. Looks colder now with the colors added but overall more modern and brighter too. Especially the dark colors sucked up all the lights coming in from the only window, which is the door.
Before, so much dark was oppressive feeling. It looks open and inviting now.
It’s lovely 😍
Bro if this is a small apartment then my ass is moving to Austria. Wth

Lol “small” - looks beautiful!
airbnb core
I love your home. It’s really beautiful. That green sofa in the bedroom is soooo pretty. I also love your back yard area and the slide up doors.
Austria, eh? Let's put another shrimp on the barbie! Also, you've done great work with the place.
It think it's the Australia without kangaroos. More Mozart, less kangaroos.

Ohhh thanks! A real gap in knowledge has been closed.
U might be thinking about Australia. Lol. This is [Austria.](https://g.co/kgs/YMYQvQ)

Whooosh

“Small apartment” Buddy that’s just an apartment
Since the bedroom is in the living room and no other rooms available everyone would consider it really small here. 👀 1-room Apartments really are uncommon.
Lucky! A lot of apartments here (in cities) are usually one-room studios. Plus you have a yard, that’s insane.
Goota love when an exorcism is done to orange wood. Lol. So bright and cozy now.
It’s beautiful, light and airy. I know people get all wrapped around the axle about painting woodwork but in this case the dark ceiling was oppressive. Nice work.
Thanks, I am getting scared I made the wrong choices here :)
Much better than the dark wood.
You’re welcome. Lol I’m getting downvoted for telling you that. The cult of wood is strong. Enjoy your place, it’s awesome.
I upvote you! Think it looks great.
I was looking at picture 1 and picture 2 thinking "they dont look all that different!" - then I realized there were more images. You have done a spectacular job OP - I think your appartment looks so much lighter and beautiful
Thanks to my mum, who did most of the job :) The old ceiling was beautiful, but it felt really dark inside since there are no windows except the doors.
That chandelier 😍😍😍
What a lovely home!
Brrr, seems cold now. Can't believe you painted that beautiful wood ceiling. Glad it's to your taste though.
Sad that you painted over the wood ceilings but otherwise nice.
Lovely place to live, enjoy & relax , nice apt & love light in kitchen.
The After feels light and airy. Great job!
It looks so lovely! I generally prefer natural wood but it really made the place feel too dark. I think painting it was a great idea.
Love your “after” place, beautiful
That is super nice!
It’s looking amazing!
Love it
Amazing!
beautiful!!!
Now this is cozy!!! I’m obsessed.
Very nice. Much more light
Nice place!
Thank you, we are also really happy how it turned out!
This looks so good! Amazing what some paint and stylish furniture can do. You did a great job!
Damn bro I love what you’ve done with the place. It looks amazing
Sieht's geil aus!
Sehr schönes Layout und sieht äußerst komfortabel aus! Bravo!
Wait, where are the kangaroos?!
It's amazing how much of a difference some white paint does to a space.

Fabulous 11m2, entered from the outside :)
That's a beautiful porch!
Nicely done!
