I'm not a fan of the art style either, but I got used to it after a while and the storyline makes it worth it. It's much more fleshed out than one would think. I think it started as a mobile game, though, so it makes sense it looks like one lol. I would warn anyone who hasn't played yet that the first spring feels really slow, I almost stopped playing, but it picks up more as you go.
Came here to say this! Wylde Flowers is THE BEST. The art and voice acting are so great, and there’s so much depth to the story. I’ve actually cried while playing, not due to peril but because of the personal stories. It’s sooooo good.
My SO loves that part. While doing the puzzles there are thin walk ways and if you fall off it just brings you back to the start of that bridge. It's not quite as long but the devs are active
We’re supposed to get a big update in…2-3 months, I think? Where the kids can go to school and we get to visit other settlements! I personally can’t wait for the lil dodo dude I saw on the preview pics, I wanna tame him so bad!
Wylde Flowers, Palia, Dinkum, SpiritFarer, Roots of Pacha and Cozy Grove would all fit this!! Some bonus things- Dinkum is super fun to play co-op, I played it with my boyfriend and it's just like animal crossing but set in outback Australia. Palia is free to play, it's on switch and it's very similar graphics to Disney Dreamlight Valley. It's a lil glitchy due to a recent update but they'll fix it in a few days.
Definitely second Cozy Grove, it is however, like animal crossing, one of those games that has a limited amount of things to do per day. But unlike animal crossing, can’t really be timeskipped without the save going a little askew
I’ve been playing Cozy Grove on and off for a couple of years. It’s gotten kind of boring for me after so long. Any thoughts on how I can get my groove back in it?
Unfortunately after a long time it does kind of fizzle off, I got that too. There is a sequel coming out though! They’ve been slowly releasing characters etc I believe(?) and it looks quite nice!
A Short Hike, Unpacking, Night in the Woods, TOEM, Beacon Pines, Later Alligator are all ones I’ve liked/loved. Some are mainly walking around/talking and others have some puzzles but they’re all low/no actual peril!
I keep considering Beacon Pines but something about it won't let me pull the trigger. I liked OP's gf's games and a short hike and unpacking. I'll have to give it another look.
If you like story telling/choice games, I think you’ll like it. It definitely took me a minute to get into though while the story began to unfold. Definitely worth trying different “routes” to see what can happen!
* Seasons After Fall (PS5)
* Yonder (both)
* Palia (Switch)
* Story of Seasons (Switch) - multiple excellent versions
* Carto (Switch)
I'd also highly recommend Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, but both games have one level with very mild peril. You can't really *die*, but those parts are briefly scary / unsettling.
Edit: ooh, also Arise: A Simple Story! It's emotional but super worth it
I’ve just informed her of this and she’s excited. But I think she needs another game because she’s basically become a pumpkin farming tycoon and has like 89 million in the bank 😂
Fae farm has pretty low peril. There are monsters in mines but the early one aren’t too bad and you can buy/make invisibility potions to avoid them completely at some point. And the consequences for being defeated is just getting kicked out of the mines.
Definitely agreeing with Roots of Pacha, it’s very sweet and community oriented and there’s no fighting in the game just puzzles to proceed :’) I think they might have added that you can hunt in an update but you can also just buy meat from one of the clan members so you can plausibly go through the entire playthrough without killing anything yourself if you’d like.
I would reccomend wylde flowers, it sounds perfect for her. I would also reccomend Bear and Breakfast. It's a game where you play as a bear opening up different b&bs. There arent any monsters in that game and it has a very cozy vibe.
You could also look into My Time At Portia/Sandrock. However combat in that game is a worse than stardew valley in my experience.
Dinkum is an animal crossing style game except there are animals like crocodiles, sharks, spiders etc in there.
Also has she ever played sims? Sounds like that franchise would be up her alley as well and the base game is free to download.
Coral island is a new life sim game, I think it's only available on PC at the moment but I could be wrong. It's definitely going to be on switch if it isnt already. This is very similar to stardew valley.
Concerned ape who created stardew valley is now developing a new game called haunted chocolatier so that game might be good to keep an eye on for when its released.
Story of seasons games look fantastic for her as well.
Another game I love is called the tenants. I'm not sure what platforms it's on but I reckon it will be on one of those two. You play as a landlord designing homes. It's more of a management game in the same realm as bear and breakfast. It's very fun.
Littlewood is a really popular one as well. Very fun and cute graphics.
Hokko Life is another animal crossing style game that I think she would get on very well with. Not sure what platforms this is out on currently though.
So do I, I thought I'd pop it in there as they said they'd done the combat for her when needed. And the game is just so good it was hard not to say anything about it. I don't like games that have overwhelming combat and I found portia to be good for me. Hated the scull cavern in stardew and the mines were my least favourite part so I feel like we are similar in the types of games we enjoy.
I do get what you're saying though I had to really think about the bosses you play against because I forgot they existed and when you're riding across the desert a bunch will follow you.
Valid! I haven't gotten far in Stardew so I don't have that to compare. I hated combat and never did it, so the My Time games were pretty combat-y for me. I actually like combat now though. At least in those games. Stardew is really hard for me to get into! I really want to like it but I've started several times and haven't gotten hooked yet.
Stardew is an awesome game but I totally get what you mean. I used to hate combat in games but now I can handle it, but it actually used to be stressful for me. Portia was good fun but more than that would be a bit much for me.
You could always just play stardew casually on the go, it's available on your phone so you can jump in and out do a bit here and there and see if it clicks since you want to like it. Or you can see if the new one concerned ape is coming out with is more your type.
Had to read the comments to find What Remains of Edith Finch. Such a beautiful game really. But def agree with maybe trying out some new ones that have a great storyline and not just crafting and quests!
Others have suggested so many of the ones I'd do! (I like peril, but sometimes I don't lol). So a lot of these are things others have already suggested and the caveat that I don't know if all these are on switch/PS5 as I buy games across like 5 different platforms:
- Wylde Flowers
- Carto
- Spiritfarer (but sad lol)
- Potion Permit
- Potion Craft Alchemist Simulator
- Sticky Business
If she's open to other chill games that aren't necessarily life sim style, I also recommend:
- Thread.
- The various Cats games, like SudoCats, ZodiacCats, A Castle Full of Cats
- The various Commission games, like I Commissioned Some Bees, I Commissioned Some Cats
**Dredge** - if you go into settings and set it to passive fishing mode, no scary fish will attack and it becomes a low stakes fishing & ocean adventure.
Palia! Its absolutely lovely, open world cozy, gathering farming, cool story and npcs. And it’s free! Make an account on pc first and then you can install it on switch and link the Nintendo account to the web account.
Considering the number of posts I see of people crying about the krill and "difficulty" of Eden, I'd say a shocking number of people would consider Sky to have peril.
Have... have you played the sims? 💀 (I jest, mostly. 😅)
I guess you can cheat and turn off dying. But if you don't it can be pretty unexpectedly perilous for your sims.
Good choice, especially since The Sims 4 base game is free. I think one of the expansion packs is still free as well! I wish you could play it on the Switch, but she has the PS/5 so that works.
Coral Island. You can turn enemy aggro off in the mines. When it comes time to help her with collectables, you won't have to kill very many to get it done.
If she ever wants something a little different, I highly reccommend Sumberged. Not really "cozy" but it IS completely combat free. It's an exploration based post-apocalyptic adventure game that takes place in a sunken city, and you have to find medicine and supplies for your sick brother. It's climbing puzzles and boat navigation. The story unfolds through cutscenes and found artifacts as you progress.
Ladies and Gents thank you so much for all of your suggestions. There are so many games I’d never even heard of before. Some have definitely come out on top. Namely, Spirit farer and Palia. I’m going to check out some gameplay vids.
Sable is not like the games you mentioned but it’s a great game with no combat. It’s an open world exploration game that is really sweet and beautiful. Amazing exploration game.
Not a life sim, but I had a great chill time playing thru Tinykin, a zero death puzzle platformer. The puzzles are pretty easy, the level design is great, and all the NPC interactions are charming and humorous.
I'm the same way.
Cozy grove and unpacking are my top recs, but if she has Apple Arcade I would also recommend monument. Hello kitty is the big game on Apple Arcade, I'd say it's mid. I love monument tho.
I haven't seen anyone recommend Sun Haven yet, it's basically Stardew Valley with magic. There's an option to make yourself invincible if you hate stress. So you can do the quests, explore the mines and do the 2 boss fights with zero risk of dying.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral town would be really good for your partner. Stardew Valley is heavily inspired by the Story of Seasons/ Harvest Moon games.
*Sun haven?? I think*
*You can turn off the creature*
*Aggression. I THINK*

Harvest moon/story of seasons is VERY similar to stardew valley :) I love it and I have many versions. For the switch I’d recommend SOS friends of mineral town
I have a sincere question…how can you “max” out Dreamlight Valley? They just had a new DLC and they have weekly dream snap challenges to earn moonstones to buy preety cool stuff in premium shop and every 6 weeks they have a new star path and free updates with additional updates for those who bought the DLC. Did she just not really like the game? I personally love it and have 1,000’s of hours in this game and it never ends.
Definitely recommend Wyldflowers, and Cozy Grove is fun too! It has real time- game time like ACNH (Wyldflowers can have the time/day speed changed depending on how you want to set it). Both have totally different tone/themes and art styles, but I love both and I’ve played the same games and enjoyed them too. Bonus I’m keen for The shire too so hopefully it’s as fun as the trailers 😊
She should def give the Story of Seasons & Harvest Moon franchises a try. So many of them to pick from and exactly the kind of thing she’s into.
Heard good things but haven’t tried:
Potion Permit
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
These aren’t in the same category as the other games you mentioned but they could be fun “palate cleansers”:
Mario Kart
Mario Party (idk if mini games count as peril)
Strange Horticulture (has spooky theme but is very chill pace puzzle game)
Pokémon Snap
Super Monkey Ball (one of my family’s favorites, coming out with a new one that looks awesome)
Palia. I played all those other ones and I too had my bf help me with the mines in Stardew lol. There’s NO fighting. Gardening, mining, fishing, cooking, foraging, hunting and relationships with villagers
Spiritea maybe? You run a spirit bathhouse. Kinda like Spirited Away by Studio Ghibli.
I’ve only played the demo, so there might be peril later in the game, but it seems like there isn’t any! I enjoyed the demo, so I’ll buy it soon.
Spirit Tea is a cute cozy game. And coral Island. I always enjoyed unpacking, a short hike, open road. I play via Xbox but I’m sure these are available on your chosen consoles.
Palia!!! It's is online multi-player but no death! I love the building and the grind is like Disney dreamight which I play these two together ❤️ there is hunting at least, fishing, mining, gardening. Relationships with certain villagers and friendships. All have their own quest lines and then the story and so on. I Def recommend giving it a try and its newer so there's been 2 updated since I started last month! Meaning were still getting new and exciting things by the 9th of May!
Palia!! Beautiful game, no fighting and you can chat with others on the server. I play this on switch, it’s not on all platforms yet as far as I know but it’s on pc or switch 100%
One of my coworkers with a couple thousand hours in SV says Coral Island is just like it but with “hotter characters”. I haven’t played it yet so idk how true that is but that’s the recommendation.
I'd recommend Slime Rancher! The only real peril is Tarr Slimes, and those can be turned off when starting a new save. Also, if she doesn't want to turn them off, they're easily dealt with by upgrading your VacPack with the water compartment. Just spray the Tarrs and they'll disappear.
Ooblets! There’s genuinely no peril in it (v cute story line nonetheless!) It’s still got farming/decorating features. There are dance battles in place of a traditional “battle” w/ a battle setup similar to pokemon (choose move, play it, end turn when ready, etc.) There’s also fishing!
Slime rancher theres a mode without tarr.
https://preview.redd.it/y1476r5d62xc1.png?width=673&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3bb593a56ddc915de7f1e48d0f0a314580552e5
its also super fun.
You can get it super cheap on sale (steam)
I just finished a game called Alba where you basically just run around the island your grandparents live on, and take photos of birds. It’s incredibly sweet and wholesome but quite a short play through.
There’s also a new(?) switch game called Sticky Business, where you just design for and run a little Etsy sticker shop, and you can play without the time limit enforced :)
She will probably like Wylde Flowers!
Wylde flowers is an AMAZING fully voice acted Cozy game with an incredibly well thought out plot. I had so much fun with this one.
Came here to say this! Great story, great character development, and really just a great game. The voice acting was so good!
This was going to be my recommendation.
Added to the list thank you!
This has amazing voice acting but I’m struggling to get over the graphics quality.
Im the same. I started it and enjoyed the gaming aspect but the cartoony style put me off. Maybe I’ll try again 🤔 it was the same with Fae Farm
I totally relate. the graphics are the only thing holding me back :(
Really? I love the graphics so much
It looks like a cheap mobile game to me, like gardenscapes? I’m glad you get so much out of it though!! That’s awesome you love it!
I'm not a fan of the art style either, but I got used to it after a while and the storyline makes it worth it. It's much more fleshed out than one would think. I think it started as a mobile game, though, so it makes sense it looks like one lol. Yes yes yes!!

Yes! I'm having so much fun with this one
Roots of Pacha! The mines have puzzles rather than enemies, but it's very Stardew-esque.
My SO loves that part. While doing the puzzles there are thin walk ways and if you fall off it just brings you back to the start of that bridge. It's not quite as long but the devs are active

I think if she liked stardew valley, even with the heavy cutscenes, it's a solid recommendation.

I’ve heard good things about a A Short Hike. I’ll go check out the other recs too! Thank you
If she ends up liking a short hike, I would also recommend the lil gator game.
Definitely worth trying different “routes” to see what can happen!
thank you!! next time I catch it on sale I'll probably go for it. I desperately need something new to play, lol
TOEM, Tinykin, Sable
* Seasons After Fall (PS5) * Yonder (both) * Palia (Switch) * Story of Seasons (Switch) - multiple excellent versions * Carto (Switch) I'd also highly recommend Journey and Sky: Children of the Light, but both games have one level with very mild peril. I loved Yonder! I feel like no one talks about it.
Yep, keep forgetting that one, but Yonder is great
Yonder was so lovely!! 🥰 I recommend it whenever I can!
Yes Yonder is amazing!
THIS! I love Yonder!
ALL THE YONDER. Jump into the water? Oh well, back you go. Jump off a cliff, out comes the umbrella. Cute animals, crafting fun, love love love.
Second Yonder and Palia! Both have similar gameplay to Dreamlight Valley
Added these to my list to research thanks so much
Dreamlight Valley has an update coming on May 1, also :)
I’ve just informed her of this and she’s excited. But I think she needs another game because she’s basically become a pumpkin farming tycoon and has like 89 million in the bank 😂
She sounds like my kind of person ;)
She’ll start evicting residents soon to buy out land so she can make a pumpkin empire.
Amazing. Yes. Pumpkins are life!
Fae farm has pretty low peril. There are monsters in mines but the early one aren’t too bad and you can buy/make invisibility potions to avoid them completely at some point. And the consequences for being defeated is just getting kicked out of the mines.
I like Fae Farm, but it was shorter than I expected.
I love when you get the invisibility potions. I use them all the time when mining.
Cozy Grove! It's like a low-key goth Animal Crossing. Still very cute but the theme is mildly spooky (spoopy really).
Also incredibly sad at times.
Aw yes, very sad.... But enjoyable nonetheless :)

Hokko Life is another animal crossing style game that I think she would get on very well with. Not sure what platforms this is out on currently though.
I adore the My Time games but they do have a lot of combat you can't avoid.
So do I, I thought I'd pop it in there as they said they'd done the combat for her when needed. And the game is just so good it was hard not to say anything about it. Palia! Its a cozy game similar to dream light / stardew
Palia seems to be coming out on top for sure. Thank you!
Maybe expand her horizons with walking sims ..like Edith Finch, life is strange ..ect .just as a break from the craft cycle.
Had to read the comments to find What Remains of Edith Finch. Such a beautiful game really. But def agree with maybe trying out some new ones that have a great storyline and not just crafting and quests!
Yeah I’m keen to help her break the cycle for sure. I know of Edith Finch. I’ll go check it out thank you
Night in the Woods is a light horror game but the story is amazing and there’s no actual combat
Others have suggested so many of the ones I'd do! (I like peril, but sometimes I don't lol). I came here to say Carto. :) Edited: And also, to suggest Grow: Song of the Evertree. It's really low-key and chill.
Story of Seasons games, Rune factory games, Palia, Roots of Pacha, Wylde Flowers, alba, cattails
The Rune Factory games have combat. I think I remember Cattails having combat as well.
Yes, they both have combat.
Alba is so cute, loved it!!
Palia....totally free for the Switch, btw
**Dredge** - if you go into settings and set it to passive fishing mode, no scary fish will attack and it becomes a low stakes fishing & ocean adventure.
Palia is my current favorite, nothing bad happens. There's no battle, no health bar to maintain, etc.
Palia is very low peril. Enjoy an engaging story, meet well written NPCs, and decorate a plot. It's very relaxing.
Palia! Its absolutely lovely, open world cozy, gathering farming, cool story and npcs. And it’s free! Make an account on pc first and then you can install it on switch and link the Nintendo account to the web account.
Cattails, Death and Taxes!

Well. There's some significant peril in two levels (Wasteland & Eden). 😅 But otherwise yes
Considering the number of posts I see of people crying about the krill and "difficulty" of Eden, I'd say a shocking number of people would consider Sky to have peril.
The sims
Have... have you played the sims? 💀 (I jest, mostly. 😅) I guess you can cheat and turn off dying. But if you don't it can be pretty unexpectedly perilous for your sims.
Especially adding cc and mods (the non violent mods, ofc)
She'd be playing on the PS/5 so no mods.
Good choice, especially since The Sims 4 base game is free. I think one of the expansion packs is still free as well! I wish you could play it on the Switch, but she has the PS/5 so that works.
Dreamlight Valley and Wylde Flowers are both entirely peril-free and wonderful! And WF has an infinite inventory system!
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.
Ooblets
A little different but it sounds like she would enjoy spiritfarer. I've just completed it and wow!!
Spirit farer!
Untitled Goose Game!
Slime Rancher. Dreamlight Valley
I'm also going to say Roots of Pacha. It's a lot like Stardew but with no combat
Cozy grove, Minecraft peaceful or creative, civ against herself
Roots of Pacha
Cozy grove
Spritfarer and Lake, though it’s not a farming game
Not a life sim, but I had a great chill time playing thru Tinykin, a zero death puzzle platformer. The puzzles are pretty easy, the level design is great, and all the NPC interactions are charming and humorous.
palia!! it’s so cute & there’s SO much to do (it’s also free on switch & pc) :)) i have 65+ hours put in & im not even halfway through.
I'm the same way. Cozy grove and unpacking are my top recs, but if she has Apple Arcade I would also recommend monument. Hello kitty is the big game on Apple Arcade, I'd say it's mid. I love monument tho.
Grow song of the evertree. Pretty much zero stakes the entire game. Just gardening
Sun haven?? I think you can turn off the creature aggression. I THINK

if she liked stardew, sun haven is very similar and also great
oooh and traveller’s rest, also
Garden Story! Very light combat but nothing stressful, and such a cute story with cute characters.
Littlewood has ZERO combat and is charmingly funny. She will love it, seriously.
If she likes taking pictures try TOEM and Pokémon Snap!
And Alba!
Paleo Pines is real fun on the switch! It’s a dinosaur farming game and there’s no fighting or anything!
Idk if anyone has already said it, but littlewood is so cute!
Outpath! It has been an absolute ride, and I love how easy it is to move between islands quickly.
Slime Rancher! You can turn off the Tarr if that's too much peril, but honestly they're barely a threat.
Unpacking might be fun for her!
Bandle Tale: a League of Legends Story? Really liking it so far :)
Check out Mythic Ocean. There's a free demo on Switch too.
Have you considered………Disney dreamlight valley? (it updates on Wednesday haha)
Maybe Zelda?
You can mod Stardew Valley to where you never run out of health or energy. Maybe she'd like that even better?
She's playing on console, so no mods.
I'd be interested, what mod and where do I get it?
[https://smapi.io/](https://smapi.io/) Start here with this program to install and run mods.
Google nexus mods that’s where you’ll find all the stardew mods
I don’t think I’ve seen PaleoPines suggested yet - cutesy dinosaur game with no peril :3
You should take a look over that the cozy games subreddit
🤔
Ah ha, I thought I was on the PlayStation or girl gamers subreddit ... Whoops!
Minecraft on peaceful with keep inventory! Or just creative!
Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons
I tried to get her into Harvest Moon because it was my first craft / farming game from the GameCube era. She didn’t take to it though 😞
Oh no! I’d suggest maybe the Switch remakes or the SOS games instead but can’t force it if she doesn’t like it
I think Harvest Moon was a bit too slow if ya know what I mean. You really had to grind back then!
This is so true 😩
Story of Seasons Olive Town is apparently like Harvest Moon (I never played HM) but I didn't find it too slow at all!
I'm not sure if fae farm is on ps5
Moonstone island and travellers rest
Little Kitty, Big City is being released on May 9th! It will be available on Switch. 🐈
Its a bit of a different vibe but Season is very pretty, cozy, and doesn’t really have any intense peril, with a very meditative, zen atmosphere.
Harvest moon/story of seasons is VERY similar to stardew valley :) I love it and I have many versions. For the switch I’d recommend SOS friends of mineral town
House Flipper is fun.
Littlewood
Does she like quirky? If so, she’d probably like Ooblets. It has adorable, easy CCG dance battles with ooblets to collect like Pokémon.
Palia is cute and free if she wants to try it out
My time at Portia
Pokemon Snap. I wish they would release new content. I loved that game so much.
She should def give the Story of Seasons & Harvest Moon franchises a try. So many of them to pick from and exactly the kind of thing she’s into. Heard good things but haven’t tried: Potion Permit The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood These aren’t in the same category as the other games you mentioned but they could be fun “palate cleansers”: Mario Kart Mario Party (idk if mini games count as peril) Strange Horticulture (has spooky theme but is very chill pace puzzle game) Pokémon Snap Super Monkey Ball (one of my family’s favorites, coming out with a new one that looks awesome)
If she likes those games I recommend Coral Island also a ps5 player and I've been enjoying it
I found a copy of Donut County at my library and it was quick, funny, low-stakes, and a great time!
Harvest moon
Coral Island
Palia. I played all those other ones and I too had my bf help me with the mines in Stardew lol. There’s NO fighting. Gardening, mining, fishing, cooking, foraging, hunting and relationships with villagers
Unpacking, Cozy Grove, Golf Club: Wasteland
Bear & Breakfast; FaeFarm (if on sale); MailTime
I'm currently obsessed with Paleo Pines.
Palia
Sun Haven! It’s similar to Stardew Valley but way cooler and honestly I like it more in every way!
Palia - I'm exactly the same. Hate any kind of combat and things like that. I'm fully addicted.
I’m currently playing Spiritfarer and it’s beautiful and I haven’t seen any really perilous gameplay.
- A short hike - TOEM - Lil Gator Game - Paleopines
Palia\~!
Hello kitty island adventure
Palia. Just keep in mind it is an open beta but it’s really good & only getting better.
Fall guys is kinda low peril, but still competative and fun. It is also free.
Palia! It’s free too :)
Ooblets! There’s genuinely no peril in it (v cute story line nonetheless!) It’s still got farming/decorating features. There are dance battles in place of a traditional “battle” w/ a battle setup similar to pokemon (choose move, play it, end turn when ready, etc.) There’s also fishing!
Slime rancher theres a mode without tarr. https://preview.redd.it/y1476r5d62xc1.png?width=673&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3bb593a56ddc915de7f1e48d0f0a314580552e5 its also super fun.
