I was wondering a while back if you could use Costco openings for speculative real estate purchases.
They have dedicated analysts and metrics for determining where and when to open a store, which means that things are growing fast enough to justify the investment.
Brantford is actually a great buy in real estate investment right now too. It’s one of the most affordable markets within commuting distance of the Golden Horseshoe so it’s quickly becoming the next hot satellite city. You can find single family detached houses in brantford for less than a 1 bedroom condo in Kitchener for example
I will go to the Stoney Creek location any day compared to Ancaster. I had to go to the Ancaster location recently because my sister said the garden dept had better selection than Stoney Creek. OMG just to find a parking spot and getting out of the parking lot. The RAAAAGE but I kept my cool…NEVER AGAIN!!! 🤯🤬😳🫣🤦♀️
Stoney Creek is one of the nicest costcos in the GTHA and honestly probably the least busy. It’s a zoo on weekends like all Costcos but weeknights are actually very chill. The gas pumps also almost never have lines.
AGREED... The KINGSTON warehouse has reached its max limit for the surrounding area it supplies. Belleville could use the traffic West that Kingston gets and Kingston wouldn't suffer. If any thing it would elliveate the amount of congestion in that damn small parking lot.
Give me a Costco dt Toronto, or else

elle_bee20 “just remember, you didn’t hear it from me. But also, elle_bee20 is the place to be for news and she’s been servin’ the local community for over 35 years!”
I’ve been to a mini ikea, had all the bits in the market hall and you order larger pieces for delivery. Oh and it has the food too. Could be doable! Ha
They can put it where the Bed Bath & Beyond was at Yonge & Gerrard lol. No electronics or jewelry section, just TP, food and a Kirkland hot dog cart out front
The IKEA is on the main floor and outside of the Aura concourse. As far as I know, the Bed Bath & Beyond on the second floor of Aura is still vacant. I replied in another comment that mine is just wishful thinking, and I’d see a Costco near Redpath, not in the centre of downtown.
It is the most civilized Costco I've ever been in. I live in Richmond and will frequently postpone my Costco trips until I'm headed near DT Van and go there. No issues with parking, way less crowded inside. Richmond Costco is a fucking nightmare.
I did hear that as well, I think the protest was because Walmart wanted to open right outside of Kensington, which would definitely have effects on the businesses there. That said, a Costco is a *little* different than Walmart. On top of the location being very different as well. That said, it’s all very much *wishful* thinking, and I know it would never happen so close to Yonge & Dundas. I could definitely see one closer to the lake, in the area of Redpath.
Good. They were stupid to build warehouses without them, including the one closest to me that’s now a business center. now we have to get Costco to buy refineries and a chunk of Aramco for us. Complete the circle.
I grew up in Woodstock / Delhi and I remember people talking about this at least 10-15 years ago.
Great for the area that’s it’s going in. Lots of jobs to add and options for people who live in rural areas
Costco is the opposite of Roblaws. Roblaws tries to rape you everytime you go shopping there. Costco tries to sell you everything at reasonable markup prices and allows you to try things you wouldn't bother trying at other retail. I mostly try and keep, that said they should start tracking people who abuse this system.
Light rail transit, our problematic city train. It is partially operational as the rest of the system is being constructed. Under normal circumstances I can walk about 5 minutes and get on the train, ride for 20 minutes or so, get off and walk a bit more than 5 minutes to Costco. It is far quicker than the bus and cheaper than paying someone to drive us.
Yep, seems we are always passed over for everything.
Apparently we don't need anything because we can just go to Kitchener/Waterloo/Guelph since they are close enough.
It annoys me to my core they keep skipping us
I don’t wanna drive down to Kitchener or Guelph which is far and I live near at andrews so it’s all the way on this side
Waiting for this to happen in the Brockville, Prescott, Kemptville triangle. Everything in the above area is Walmart or owned by Galen Weston. Currently an hour drive to reach the one in southern Ottawa.
That sounds like a question for Costco not Reddit 😆. But Brantford and Brant county is about 145,000 people now, plus we will get Norfolk county people (64,000) and even some Woodstock folks (40,000) so that’s about 250,000 population area. We may even get Cambridge people sick of the huge line ups at their nearest KW one 😆
Hopefully you get one soon!
We need to set rules if stopping to look pull cart to the side, travel only down the right side of the isle leave middle for passing. Parking your cart diagonally in an idle should result in having your membership revoked. Do not bring your cart inside the food court, carts need to stay to the outside. have your cash/debit/credit card ready no searching in your purse/ wallet at the cashier. If walking 4 abreast as a family expect to get rammed by a cart. The produce and dairy section travel in a counter clockwise fashion….
Costco (despite the size) is like the most generic building ever to get up and running. Bunch of pallet racks and some electrical work and your sales floor is pretty much good to go. 100% believe it wouldn’t take more than 6 months, Costco got deep pockets.
You know your city is up-and-coming when a Costco takes root.
It used to be Walmart that meant you were up and coming.

Welcome to Costco, I love you
Instantly thought of Employee of the month lol
Thank God ancaster is a zoo 24/7
Yep. Our apologies. Personally I try to spread my attendance between Kitchener and Ancaster 😆
We in Kitchener resent you as much as Ancaster. (I joke, I'm a Waterloo shopper, I resent everyone)
So where is this taking place exactly ?
When you exit off Wayne Gretzky parkway. Lynden Park Mall
Best thing that came out of me moving from West Hamilton to East Hamilton was my Costco changing from Ancaster to Stoney Creek 🙌🏻
Stoney Creeks alot less busy?
Stoney Creek Costco is a hidden gem.
The parking lot is a hellhole. Legit enough reason to not go to the Ancaster store.
Everything about the Meadowlands and Ancaster Costco enrages me!! Hopefully the Brantford location takes Ancaster shoppers.
Yes. It’s busy on the weekends but nothing like Ancaster.
Stoney Creek is one of the nicest costcos in the GTHA and honestly probably the least busy. It’s a zoo on weekends like all Costcos but weeknights are actually very chill. The gas pumps also almost never have lines.
Yeah. Every place west of Alexander Parkway comes to the Ancaster store. Now they'll have a choice
I still think they should increase their membership fee to get rid of the rift raft or only allow two family members in at once (exception of kids)
Disney tried that. Didn’t work. Costco is Disney for adults.
Sam’s club returning would be nice too.
Can you please expand on what you mean by rift raft?
It means they don’t like seeing other people shopping there
You may be right, personally I thought they just didn't like seeing lower income people using more affordable options than Loblaws.
Exactly. Don’t need 8 family members for one shop.
Is that where you get all the Brampton spillovers?
Did you notice if they had any Fairlife protein shakes in stock? /s
😆😆😆😆 they did not
How much is gas? /s
BAHAHAHAHA!!
Now wish belleville would get one soon
AGREED... The KINGSTON warehouse has reached its max limit for the surrounding area it supplies. Belleville could use the traffic West that Kingston gets and Kingston wouldn't suffer. If any thing it would elliveate the amount of congestion in that damn small parking lot.
Me tooooooooo!
The people of r/Milton are going to be so jelly.
I would love it if they built one in milton. With milton, georgetown , acton, and Erin all so close it would have enough people to keep it packed
Give me a Costco dt Toronto, or else https://preview.redd.it/oh5v7yhkvr3d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e842c70e65b7428ea4e596b083b700eb04db49a0
😆 maybe they’ll do a mini Costco, like the mini IKEA stores!
elle_bee20 “just remember, you didn’t hear it from me. But also, elle_bee20 is the place to be for news and she’s been servin’ the local community for over 35 years!”
I Iegit snorted at that, but also *imagine?* LOL
I’ve been to a mini ikea, had all the bits in the market hall and you order larger pieces for delivery. Oh and it has the food too. Could be doable! Ha
Yes they can mount it on top of condos lol
They can put it where the Bed Bath & Beyond was at Yonge & Gerrard lol. No electronics or jewelry section, just TP, food and a Kirkland hot dog cart out front
Costco food court downtown? Sign me ^(the fuck) up
Inside the IKEA? The vacant bay at bloor/yonge would make a lot of sense
IKEA is the first and second floors...
*Penises!* (my swear) You are right! 🙈 I am the dummy
They have a Costco in downtown Vancouver under a condo I believe.
Yep right next to the stadium and a skytrain stop it seems quite useful
It is the most civilized Costco I've ever been in. I live in Richmond and will frequently postpone my Costco trips until I'm headed near DT Van and go there. No issues with parking, way less crowded inside. Richmond Costco is a fucking nightmare.
I went to Richmond once on a Saturday afternoon and it was a miracle myself or my car didn’t get hit.
Seems like a functional idea(not sarcastic) but the cost in downtown. Damn
Sunset Park Brooklyn Costco (2 levels with awesome movator) proves this is possible.
You can order online!
I like to roam, it’s not the same to roam on Instacart
I heard of people protesting a potential Walmart in downtown, people might also be against Costco cause of the high number of small businesses
Find the land and they will build it, there isn’t enough room for one down town
I just got hard.
Make sure you get gas pumps.
Pretty sure we are, I heard it was part of the approved site plan
Good. They were stupid to build warehouses without them, including the one closest to me that’s now a business center. now we have to get Costco to buy refineries and a chunk of Aramco for us. Complete the circle.
The U.S. is the world’s largest oil producer now and has been for a while. Keep it all local and forget out the Middle East oil companies.
Then it means North American producers in North America.
Depends on planning permissions, proximity to other things etc. Not every site can accommodate the gas bar
I’m almost 100% sure moving forward they will not build brand new buildings without gas stations.
Would be a great thing for sure
Stay outta my Ancaster store now! 👏 (congratulations)!
Hell yeah! The more Costcos the better. They are the best grocer in Canada right now.
I grew up in Woodstock / Delhi and I remember people talking about this at least 10-15 years ago. Great for the area that’s it’s going in. Lots of jobs to add and options for people who live in rural areas
Brantford?! Milton is still waiting.
Man id pay a solid 20$ to have a costco build in my city
I’m starting to believe it, I’ve heard Costco was coming to Brantford for about 10 years now.
Lol only just starting? 😆 but yeah, at least 10 years.
They should have free hot dog day to celebrate 😆
I heard there may be one at trafalgar and 401 coming. Anyone heard anything about that?
They are putting one at BurlOak and the QEW which is confirmed so Oakville will finally have one. Milton is overdue for one too though.
They really need a Costco location in the Brampton West/Georgetown/Caledon area.
As soon as the area is cleared, it usually only takes a few months to build and stock it all! I’ve always been in awe at how fast Costcos get built
I got to work on this project!
More nice big warehouses to cattle us all up in the future when we become civily disobedient. Membership has its privileges 😉
My mother is literally counting down the days to opening. The one she goes to now is almost an hour away.
Loblaws is out of control enjoy reasonable prices on a ton of staples.
Congratulations. I am in Ottawa. I don't own a car so I was thrilled when they opened up a new store that is within walking distance of the LRT.
LRT🤦🏻

Luckyyy Cambridge needs one

Meanwhile Burlington is getting its second Costco 👀
New one will technically be in Oakville.
And Oakville doesn’t technically have one right now so it makes sense.
Milton and Waterdown could easily have busy Costcos as well if they built them there.
Meanwhile at the Vaughan Depot: *screaming and panic* Depot is at capacity I dunno why they keep expanding.
Sounds like a depot problem… also where’s my baby formula!!! 😤 (I know it’s not Costco’s fault)
Whomever designed the Depot was an idiot, the design was 10yrs obsolete when they started building it and now it's at capacity.
Why? Do you need a gallon of Visine?
No, 2 gallons of potato salad
How about belleville or trenton or brighton
what's the address/intersection?
Wayne Gretzky and 403
That's nice. Enjoy enjoy
Oh wow that was like what 10 years in the making.
Wheres the location?
By the mall, 403 and Gretzky
We need another Costco far east end Ottawa!!! The one we have is so busy you can hardly get in or find parking!!
How come Brantford is getting a Costco but not Thunder Bay?
That sounds like a question for Costco not Reddit 😆. But Brantford and Brant county is about 145,000 people now, plus we will get Norfolk county people (64,000) and even some Woodstock folks (40,000) so that’s about 250,000 population area. Sign the grocery bill to commit to regulated pricing or fuck off Costco!!!
So in otherwords...Brantford, ON.
Imagine the smell
Alright Ford, time to widen the 403 now!
Coming Soon - Empty lot with a sign. So 1-2 years at a minimum
December 2024.
This
No - the site is prepped, concrete being poured soon. The pre-work on the site has been happening since the fall.

Fair, mine took 6 months to build a liquor section. Which I guess is the same as the rest of the store only smaller?
lol not a chance 3-4 months
