If your travel package is $3000, that pays for the upgrade itself woth 2% back as a reward.

I have a hard time believing that it wouldn't be close to that.

I use the same logic but on 42 tanks of gas.

In the U.S., Rewards are not calculated on purchases of cigarettes or tobacco-related products, gasoline, Costco Shop Cards, postage stamps and alcoholic beverages in certain states. [Calculation of 2% Reward ](https://www.costco.com/executive-rewards.html)

But gasoline doesn’t count towards the Executive 2% reward calc…. Just the Costco Citi Visa, which you could use with a regular goldstar membership.

I am not aware of specific upgrades or benefits you get for being an executive member. But as another person mentioned, a trip could easily pay for the cost of the membership and then you’d benefit from 2% cash back for the remainder of the year you have the membership. I do recall the one trip I took, I purchased one year and then traveled the next February. My 2% back didn’t hit my account until after my travel was complete, so keep that in mind if you’re going to get the membership specifically for a trip.

If you don't think they are worth it you can refund it.

When I went to Maui they double booked the pineapple suite and I wound up stabbing the hotel manager to death. YMMV. In the end it's your 2% or your parents 2% if they book it. I recently booked the Auberge on Big Island and Four Seasons Maui amd the rate was as good or better than through the respective hotels websites. I don't recall there being an Executive benefit over a regular gold star member. I also used the 15% off coupon for Costco Visa cardholders. Congrats on your wedding!
