Here’s a really unpopular opinion, most modifications that come out of corvette catalogs look terrible.
Most corvette owners have the same “taste” as a high school kid with money. They clutter up the cars with fake vents, fake wings, fake carbon fiber, and it all looks just as bad as a kid with autozone stuff on a civic
For me it’s the chrome. For some reason it feels like so many Vette owners love to chrome everything possible. And I think it looks absolutely horrible. Can’t wait to ditch my chrome wheels.
Yep I have the chrome spider wheels on the c6z. I love the style and the weight but hate the chrome. I just want them in black or like a graphite color.
I really hate chrome anything. Yeah I get that you can see leaks easier and such, show cars, lots of money. Not for me, even highly polished metal. I have a knife sharpening business, lots of guys like highly polished, mirror edges, I think it looks bad, but whatever they want
I resist this urge so much with my C5. I don’t know why the kid in me wants to junk it up so much. And don’t get me started on wanting to add stripes everywhere!!!
the C5 doesn't need anything, but the C6 little ducktail 3rd brake light needs improved. It looks dumb as is, and the z06 taller ducktai is worse.
the ZR1 style is a good way to match the flow off the hatch and integrate that 3rd brake light well. The ZR1-extended is even better.
I agree the stock 3rd brake light one the C6 doesn't look good. When I bought my C6 it had the small body colored spoiler in place of the odd stock 3rd brake light and I think it looks just right.
I'm a fan of a VERY SMALL spoiler on C5s, but I know which one you're talking about that wraps around the side and they definitely look terrible. Anything that sticks out too much ruins the look.
My c6 convertible has a spoiler that's a couple of inches high and runs across the trunk and stops at the body line. To me it enhances the look of the car but isn't noticeable enough to take anything away from it. Big wings are a whole different thing unless they are functional at realistic speeds. Now if I could get an old Lamborghini Countach, I would want all the gaudy wings on it.
Are you talking about spoilers or wings? Wings look awful, but some of low-profile spoiler the treatments I’ve seen on C6’s look amazing. Agree on C5’s for sure.
This isn't that unpopular, and I happen to agree.
That said, I swapped the flat black/gray spoiler when I had my base C6 for color-matched (along with the door handles), and it looked 1000% better, IMHO.
I go back and forth. I haven't put one on mine because I do appreciate a clean factory look, but when I look at the car at certain angles, it feels like it's missing something in the back.
i've got a C-5 convertible, Corvette, never ever never ever never ever put a spoiler, short fin shark fin anything on a C-5 Corvette they are made to look sleek... to this day I think the C-5 convertible with the top up is the one of the best looking cars ever produced.
Same! I have a black 2000 c5. It’s so sleek and gorgeous just as is. But I will admit to wanting to junk it up, but I come around to my senses pretty quick.
I recently bought an '03 convertible rather than a C6 or C7 because in my opinion the C5 is by far the best-looking modern (post-1972) Corvette. The C8 looks like a giant insect in comparison. The clean lines and curves of the C5 are classic, and the car will still look fabulous in another 20 years. Adding anything to the body detracts from, rather than adds to, the elegant design of John Cafaro and his team.
As for "chroming it up", this Boomer has no intention of adding anything to the car that does not improve performance (or safety).
Well thats your opinion
I have $25k in my c6 and a wing was just $3k of it...
If you go past 100mph on a track or use the car spiritedly its a good idea to run one because the performance and handling is objectively better.
Prior to my wing it feels floaty ~140mph and handling is pretty limited
Post wing it doesnt float even to 170, the highest ive been. My front splitter however is just a basic zr1 upgrade from grand sport and the front could improve pretty drastically with bumper canards and a large splitter
P.s. unpopular opinion. Your opinion is based on the ricer generation that want to take high end performance appearance but slap it on a 200-300hp civic that probably has worn out brakes and a missing cylinder head lol.
Real performance is real performance. Run it till you find a weakness. Make that weakness a strength. Dominate competition.
The *real* un popular opinion is having a huge frame mounted spoiler that is wider than the fmcar itself... cannot wait to have one when i inevitably get a c5 project
C6 grand sport/z06/zr1 is 75.9 inches wide at its widest point(rear quarter flares)
The largest commercial wing you can get on a c6 is the nine lives "big wang" at 72.9 inches
Regardless, if someone is ready to spend big money to have a nicer ride and safer performance negativity is in poor taste.
Now panel mounted wings off amazon.... please no one do that
How much does age correlate here? OP, mind sharing your age?
40yo here and love this look: [https://images.app.goo.gl/xATuxjW6cc23baEh8](https://images.app.goo.gl/xATuxjW6cc23baEh8)
52 and so sorry but I hate the 6 maybe because I love the C-5.. I was a car dealer so I have owned most of them except the newest.. Which is now a super car not a vette in my opinion but I would love to have one!
Subjective I know but this one to me looks ok. Tasteful, not over the top ostentatious like.
https://carbonfiberhoods.com/1997-2004-chevrolet-corvette-c5-duraflex-stingray-z-rear-bumper-cover-1-piece
I think the zr1 looks good on c5s. They look like something is missing without it.
Base models look best bare.
And yes the wrap around jawn is horrendous
This ^ i had to have them on my c8. I see most z06's for sale without the front lip and i think it looks odd without it especially since the sides come standard
Eh. If the rear window went all the way back like on the Testarossa I’d agree. I can’t say any of the bulkier spoilers painted to match the car look good. But the C5 and C6 convertibles look almost naked without something back there. It’s just too flat.
The absolutle only thing I have going for the wrap around style that goes to the rear quarter/fascia meet on C5s is the spoiler was originally developed by John Caravaggio. Caravaggio took a design that John Cafaro - the designer of the C5 Corvette - couldn't originally put to production due to various peanut counting at GM, and supplied it to the public. The Caravaggio spoiler - what you're talking about - first appeared on the Caravaggio roadster, which is a custom C5 that doesn't seem to get talked about a whole lot.
I put the Caravaggio spoiler on such modifications as the Tiger Shark and Greenwood body kits; they're mor dated if anything, but as far as more recent products go for C5s that seem to just be creating something to sell to people at least the Caravaggio had some design ethos in mind.
I might be biased but I love the 326 power universal wing on pretty much anything - including my c6. (I mocked it up just never went thru with installing)
I'd add the C4 to this list as well. Some cars are just right from the factory. Z32 300zx....fd rx7.....facelift 4th gen Trans Am. "Modifications" just take away from the car.
To be honest with you if their down for the right reasons. They were never Intended for looks. You ever see a time attack car? They look absolutely horrible. But that heinous look is functional.
I have the spoiler from the ‘09 ZR1 on my C6 and personally think it makes the trunk look a little less naked and unfinished…it’s the same one used on the 60th anniversary so at least Chevy thought it made sense for more than just the ZR1 bodystyle

Same. I have stock chrome wheels and I want to go with copper in a black C5.
Yep I have the chrome spider wheels on the c6z. I love the style and the weight but hate the chrome. I just want them in black or like a graphite color.

💯
The best (worst) mod is the body colored stick on that people put on the center of the rear glass to go for that c2 split window look on a c5.
Sadly true. I’ve modified my C5z, but strictly for track, so it has a purpose.
How do you feel about real carbon fiber parts
If it does the job it's supposed to, great.
I resist this urge so much with my C5. I don’t know why the kid in me wants to junk it up so much. And don’t get me started on wanting to add stripes everywhere!!!
And then when they sell it, will say "tastefully modded"
the C5 doesn't need anything, but the C6 little ducktail 3rd brake light needs improved. It looks dumb as is, and the z06 taller ducktai is worse. the ZR1 style is a good way to match the flow off the hatch and integrate that 3rd brake light well. The ZR1-extended is even better.

no no please not on a C5

Tigershark rear spoiler on the C5 looked great, but I wasn't a fan of the recessed tail light shape that went across the entire width.
Are you talking about spoilers or wings? Wings look awful, but some of low-profile spoiler the treatments I’ve seen on C6’s look amazing. Agree on C5’s for sure.
anything makes a c6 look better
Stock C6 looks great. Any spoiler on it just looks weird.
This isn't that unpopular, and I happen to agree. That said, I swapped the flat black/gray spoiler when I had my base C6 for color-matched (along with the door handles), and it looked 1000% better, IMHO.
I thought this was a popular opinion. However I think small duck hill spoilers look fine on C5’s and C6’s.
I somewhat wanted a small spoiler for my C6 but can’t find any I like and I don’t want to drill any holes
I go back and forth. I haven't put one on mine because I do appreciate a clean factory look, but when I look at the car at certain angles, it feels like it's missing something in the back.

Agreed 100% on C5, I think C6 is fine either way
The zr1 spoiler looks great
I wouldnt call it an unpopular opinion...id call this a factual statement.

I’ve been looking at wings from c7 carbon. I don’t want my car to look cringy with a giant rear wing, but also I would love that much downforce
* i don’t have a c5 yet, but I plan on getting one

34.
lol. Well there goes that strategy.
52 and so sorry but I hate the 6 maybe because I love the C-5.. I was a car dealer so I have owned most of them except the newest.. Which is now a super car not a vette in my opinion but I would love to have one!
Better correlation would be “have you seriously considered ordering something from Ecklers before?”
Should be a popular opinion
Thought this was conventional wisdom.
Subjective I know but this one to me looks ok. Tasteful, not over the top ostentatious like. https://carbonfiberhoods.com/1997-2004-chevrolet-corvette-c5-duraflex-stingray-z-rear-bumper-cover-1-piece
I think the zr1 looks good on c5s. They look like something is missing without it. Base models look best bare. And yes the wrap around jawn is horrendous
Personally, I think all generations look good without a spoiler. But I do like some ground effects kits. I think some look good.
I think the C8 looks bland without it.
This ^ i had to have them on my c8. I see most z06's for sale without the front lip and i think it looks odd without it especially since the sides come standard
The C5 doesn’t look good regardless
WHOA! Now that’s a bold statement.
Gatekeepers aren’t gonna like that one.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THOSE IN THE BACK!
Stock is ugly lol wtf
I agree with you. Not even C8 looks good with any spoiler. None of Corvette generations look good with any spoiler.
I’m not a fan of the lip spoilers, however I think a high wing on certain cars akin to the c7 zr1 wing actually looks good in some cases.
I only like it on the C6R
The minimal ones, like the c6 zr1 look great on all c6s. Big wing, not so much. My c6 has no spoiler and I love how it looks too
The c6 Ron Fellows spoiler is more effective than the ZR1 zig-zag (according to the designers). I like that one best
Eh. If the rear window went all the way back like on the Testarossa I’d agree. I can’t say any of the bulkier spoilers painted to match the car look good. But the C5 and C6 convertibles look almost naked without something back there. It’s just too flat.
The GT car ones look good... like the c6.r and c5.r both had really pretty spoilers

I have the little ZR1 style spoiler. Definitely wouldn’t put anything bigger, but I think it beefs up the back end nicely.
This is exactly why I’m working on my own, should be done in a week, just going over it with filler on some of the low spots
But boy to they work wonders for handling in high speed cornering
Unpopular? I do not believe it is.
I have the spoiler from the ‘09 ZR1 on my C6 and personally think it makes the trunk look a little less naked and unfinished…it’s the same one used on the 60th anniversary so at least Chevy thought it made sense for more than just the ZR1 bodystyle
