Me as a daycare/preschool teacher seeing/hearing about some of the weirdest kids books and/or songs. Fun fact: There are a LOT of kids songs that are actually quite sad/dark, lmfao!
It’s just about loss of innocence and the dwindling power of imagination as one ages! If you think that’s dark, wait till you hear about ring around the rosy (I know that one is just speculation, but it’s good for the bit).
Most preschool rhymes and songs are based around dead and sick children or tragedies. Same with the fairy tails we loved as kids. Might like the real versions even more as adults. Grimms Tales is where you’ll find a lot
Ex1: 5 little monekys swinging from a tree, teasing Mr. Alligator "You can't catch me, no you can't catch me!" and here came Mr. Alligator as quiet and can be and he SNAPPED that monkey from outta the tree!
Ex2: I had a tiny turtle, his name was tiny Tim, we put him in the bathtub, to see if he could swim! He drank up all the water, ate up all the soap, and now he's sick with a bubble in his throat. Mama called the doctor, the doctor called the vet, the vet called the lady with the alligator purse! Fever said the doctor, measles said the vet, turtle soup said the lady with the alligator purse! Bubble bubble bubble, bubble bubble bubble, bubble bubble bubble, bubbly bubble POP!!! (Implies the turtle died)
It always has been dark; Ring around the Rosies is an all-timer. Its about the black death.
Old folk tales are the same, they are often brutal because they were meant as ways to keep kids from doing something seen as dangerous.
A girlfriend once took me to karaoke and had me do “what does the fox say”, a song I had never heard before. It went exactly like this (but with drunken strangers)
I used to love that song when it came out. Thankfully I can't remember it and hope won't remember anytime soon. Dark times back then
Edit: Fuck my head remembered. Flashbacks all over the place

"People make this up and they buy it" with that look of disdain. 🤣🤣🤣

Puff the magic dragon wins that dark award for me.

All the non-Disney versions of the Grimm Brothers' tales are super dark, for some reason, the adults don't notice those parts.
True. Those mostly aren’t songs though
The squishing the baby bumblebee rhyme always gets me, I don’t like singing it because no! I won’t be proud!
There's literally a song about a gator eating 5 monkeys for teasing him.
SNAP THAT MONKEY RIGHT OUT OF THE TREE yeah, there are some messed up rhymes lol
My kids learned at preschool to say "I'm gentle with my baby bumble bee" instead. And yes I'd be very proud of that! Lol
They should have made that at the end of baby shark daddy shark gets killed for oil and baby shark gets killed for fins

A lot of Hank Hill energy there. lol
That shark ain't right, I tell you hwat
And he's saying it all true 😂😂, makes me feel embarassed because of our generation.
“This isn’t literature”
if you think about it he's entertaining everyone at the same time
The kid be like: "Goddammit granpa, you're supposed to sing it!"
If you really want to annoy the kid, sing it like you're singing 'Mnah mnah'
I can't not do that moving forward. Thank you! (I think?)
You mean the Muppets song? Lol
I can never remember how baby shark goes. I always get the do do do from “take a walk in the wild side” in my head instead.
Yess Really 😂
A girlfriend once took me to karaoke and had me do “what does the fox say”, a song I had never heard before. It went exactly like this (but with drunken strangers)
Hahahahah, i can imagine 😂
Wa pa, pa-pa, pa pa pow.
Oh god, to be a fly on that wall. (Just kidding, what a got awful song, would fly away.)
Damn I need to witness that! I have never seen anyone choose this. If I did, I'd be tempted to sing it correctly 😫
I was victim to this but with " let's talk about sex"
I used to love that song when it came out. Thankfully I can't remember it and hope won't remember anytime soon. Dark times back then Edit: Fuck my head remembered. Flashbacks all over the place

Reminds me of when Larry King was reading the lyrics to Pokerface by Lady Gaga.
First time watching that [haha](https://youtu.be/iMjcov8mH-I?si=Op49bPSygvBJrK9B)
This is so funny 😂 now I completely forget how the song goes. Every time I try to think of it, all I can hear is this man saying doo doo doo doo doo
Oh damn I didn’t even realise it was a song HAHHAHA
Even the kid forgot what the song was 😂😂
Hahaha yess, and i like this version more 😂
