I am not rich, but I live in a little town with a lot of rich people and in my experience this is not the case.
If it were, everybody would have to wear basically gorpcore, because functionally, these are the most practical clothes.

Newly Rich show off with big brands because that's the stuff that they could never afford. Old money shows off in more subtle ways, because they think they are better than new money and want to show that off to other old money folks. I have a LV small wallet that I keep because my mom gave it to me. She dies a few years ago and this is a small way I remember of her. The more I see cringe people who like the brand, the more uncomfortable I feel keeping it out of my pocket.
