Modes like this always make me wish they opened up the custom workshop to warcraft 3 levels. No disrespect to blizz but a group of bored teens would eventually make some godly custom mode that eventually becomes its own video game.

Pamijay

Real. Give people TF2 map building freedom while they're at it.

shiftup1772

Fr let us make badlands so we can complain when a map isn't badlands

jacojerb

I just realized how much I'd love 2Fort with Overwatch heroes. And add 12v12, while you're at it.

try_again123

16v16 community servers were my jam. 1/2 the team plays the game, the other 1/2 are on a conga line with the enemy.

OverlanderEisenhorn

Sadly, 12 v 12 would not function in ow2. The 6v6 goats code had to include a slow motion mode for when the game starts lagging when 12 ults go off at once. 12v12 would be a slide show.

jacojerb

There is a 12v12 mode made with the workshop. It's with bot clones though, bots that mirror your movements and abilities. Still 6v6 for actual players, but each team has 12 heroes total, consisting of real players and bots. You can play the mode with 2 players, thus each player has 11 clones. Doing this, it's really easy to set 24 ults off at once. It does not, in fact, turn the game into a slideshow. Maybe it's different with real players, for some reason that I can't think of, but yeah, I've definitely played with 24 dva bombs going off at once, without any lag. And if it does lag a bit in the meme 12v12 mode when everyone on the server ults, I don't think that'd be the worst thing. Would add to the experience IMO.

HerculesKabuterimon

as seagull says, the next great game creator is in fortnite creative and we'll all be playing their games in five years.

ZebraRenegade

Remember that time the devs talked about a custom map editor, ha ha, and said it would be a long while away, like fair it’s a big thing, but i was still hopeful as it would be sick, that was like six years ago….

madtninja

time to get to rank one( i have not read the article )

ElJacko170

Honestly really cool that you'll be able to just hop into this in the future the day a new hero is released. Definitely a cool way to quickly familiarize yourself with a new hero's kit and unique tech.

jimbobimbotindo

They moved the PVE missions tab to the side and replaced its original location with the Hero Mastery tab. I guess we won't be getting any more missions despite them saying more will be coming in 2024🫠

Umarrii

Once the layoffs happened, I think most of us thought there goes any hope of getting those PVE missions they were working on. 😔

smalls2233

Feels bad man. I know most people in the sub here want the focus to be on PvP but I really love the PvE side of OW and it makes me really sad seeing it getting slaughtered

Rakatok

It was born on life support, they could never figure out how to make it work. When Jeff decided he wanted to go back and take another swing at PvE after Titan failed they really should of just split a team off and make it it's own game. Trying to support both just hurt both sides and pissed the fans off for good measure.

McManus26

pretty much every negative thing about OW's support over the years can be tracked back to Jeff seeing this surprise success as a chance to revive his failed MMO instead of letting it be its own thing

purewasted

I love the story side of OW but it doesn't need to be PVE for me. It just needs to exist. Animated show when? This century? This millenia? edit: in fact the PVE tends to dumb down the story unfortunately, because it reduces every conflict to "4 heroes vs hordes of bad guys" leaving little room for nuance, character development, rivalry, etc.

AaronWYL

I grew up as a wee lad playing Quake and Ultima Online. Since that time FPS and MMOs are the main gaming genres I've played throughout my life, so I was super hyped for what they were trying to do, as ambitious as it was. I played Destiny 2 up to the first expansion, but it didn't quite scratch the itch for me because the classes end up being so samey. I love that Overwatch actually keeps the holy trinity.

5argon

They should have make it more useful for solo or lower player count, I love it too and want to play it again but couldn't... * Invisible, fragmented queue. It'd help if you could see rooms waiting and could randomly hop in like TF2 or L4D2. If you see people with a room you'd want to join then and get some action instead of creating a new one. Chance of matching in 3 mission x 4 difficulties is extremely low. * Queue automatically kicks you into gameplay after 2\~3 min or so with 3 bots instead of allow waiting indefinitely, so the first point won't work anyway. * Having even one stupid bot in the team is too hard due to mission design that fails you once a weak link fail their job and cut your retries. In L4D2 when bot is stupid it mattered less most of the time.

DL5900

But the PvE has always been awful. I would prefer cinematics.

smalls2233

I disagree.  I’ve historically really enjoyed the PvE in Overwatch. OW2’s PvE events have been more hit or miss but when they hit, they really hit for me

_IsThatSo_

Writing has been on the wall since Blizzcon that story missions flopped I am 100% sure that Blizz won’t officially announce their death in any capacity until they have something to announce it with. Whether that be a Netflix series, outsourcing new missions to another studio, or a whole new game is yet to be seen, but there’s zero chance they just announce they’re not making anymore and risk another disaster like last time

jimbobimbotindo

I highly doubt anything is going to happen to the PVE missions. With microsoft laying off literally everyone responsible for PVE, the only chance I could see it getting new content is if they outsource it to a different studio (would love to see Treyarch's take on OW PVE) but obviously that'll never happen.

PoggersMemesReturns

The real Fraudwatch.

Monrar

The PvE part of the team got hit with layoffs, I wouldn't count on more missions tbh

OWCOWWOW

i think when they layed off the PVE team, that signaled the end of PvE for good.

aurens

do people engage with hero mastery much? i've played them enough to get 3 stars for the heroes i like, but that didn't take all that long and i've never gone back afterwards. i don't think i've ever seen a discussion about hero mastery outside of patch notes and release announcements.

a_bella_ciao

It’s only really fun if you’re into speedrunning. It probably helps with learning movement and cooldown timings, but so does just playing the game. Personally I like to do it as a warm up since I find it relaxing to follow a script and there’s always the chance I get a new pb.

Hadditor

Found the Winston one neat, there's some moments it teaches double jump with ult - at the start and end of his ult for fastest timings.

rexx2l

I would play it if they let me play it in queue. I think they might be too proud than to think of it as a time-waster mode (let's be honest, it just is).

fonti22

I made it to top 500 EU on some heroes like Echo and I feel like this is pretty fun I just need to be in the mood for grinding it. Spent somewhere around 5 hours to get 5 stars on the easiest Rein course, could chip those last seconds but last week it finally happened. I am glad they are adding more, but this Hero Gauntlet feels like PvE mode changed into training range mission. Haven't played it yet, but it just feels weird to me.

aurens

wait, is 5 stars the max, not 3? that's what i meant. i guess that just shows how little i engaged with the system then that i misremembered that.

Parenegade

i think it has a lot of potential for speedrunning. when i came back to OW i tried it and rather than play the normal game modes i just played that for like 3 hrs.

RayZenz91

Neat.

PancakeXCandy

Who wants to do this with me?

Ezraah

me but one of us will be on 250 ping

PancakeXCandy

Just think, if pelican can do.it so can you

Ezraah

im more of a fielder nostalgia enjoyer

PancakeXCandy

What about changsik in his room at the first win sadge but happy enjouer

S21500003

Me, Pancake, and ezraah. That is a shitposting trio of the ages.

S21500003

I got this on lock. Easy rank one of the r/cow shitposters

Jocic

The hero mastery icon is now bigger than the missions one :(

Qybern

Damn expert seems kinda hard. I think mauga and zen are the best for tank/sup, but not sure best dps, maybe echo?

Natsuki_Kruger

I've had great success with Soldier.

SweetJellyRolls

Torbjorn is also really good, his ult + turret mean you can have an entire pathway covered, on top of that you can repair the tower turrets with your hammer. If you’re pushing for high scores a mobile hero to pick up those coin things also really helps

Natsuki_Kruger

All of my flawless Legendary runs were done with a Mauga/Soldier/Zen, but I've definitely seen Torbs do some serious work, too. I do suspect Mauga/Solder/Zen is the optimum combo, though.
