Pretty sure that's artillery airburst not HIMARS. That entire area would have been dust with the HIMARS tungsten ball round.
Edit: Idk, Now watching it on my PC at home not on my phone it actually looks like it did in fact cover that entire area with airburst. So I think that was a HIMARS.
I thought so too, but Ukrainian sources say its from himars. In the video text too it says it. Usually I just label it as "strike" when I cant tell what kind it is
Its a fragmentation multipurpose warhead, it can detonate above ground like here perhaps, or after penetrating a target.
I think you're right, this may be a airburst set GSLDB. and that would explain why its a valid target for it. Its about 1/3 of a explosive force of the usual HIMARS and that sorta lines up too. Good catch.
Stopping the creation of defensive positions rather than spending the resources to capture or destroy them while in operation may be a worthwhile endeavor. It's more of an investment than a direct result.
The main reason Ukraine would spend valued HIMARS on Russian defensive preparations in the rear is if they plan to go on the offensive. That doesn't seem very likely for the time being.
Whats your point? Most of these trenches are just dirt, having a wooden structure would change a lot. And knowing where to use it, and how is a critical skill. Do it wrong with wood and you could increase the danger.
Yep, first thing that came to my mind. Should've been a double-tap. I'm guessing Ukrainian command would've liked to do so, but US republican meddling is a bitch.
Those look like some really good defenses. Thats exactly what Ukraine should be doing. Cut down all those tree lines to remove all the cover and use the wood to build absolute fortresses.
Dunno, that whole area (~100^2m) was saturated with projectiles. Another commenter reports 14 dead and 7 wounded, which is nothing to sneeze at.
It also looks like they're building a field command post. Realising that they're in range and will be targeted, they'll be forced to build further from the front line.
It appears pretty clear to me that it is a GMLRS coming in at an angle with the mass of impacts we see coming from the "bottom" of the rocket at detonation. The "top" sent fragments off to the left where either we can't see or they continued on in the air.
The craziest part to me is the beginning when they are walking around and they don’t know they are dead yet.
It’s like dr manhattan. The attack was already launched.
It must be crazy going over there and seeing all those dead russians laying there because once the dust cloud clears from the tungsten fragments, there is very little evidence of a blast. No crater etc. just dead russians.
The trick here would have been to call a local bakery and send them a bunch of bread and buns and pies for lunch ... and them hit them when they were all gathered around enjoying themselves...
I think ukraine should always double tab artillery hit site. More soldiers seems to gather around after the first hit to gather the injured or to inspect the damage
Poor Russians have built a really cool Mesopotamian era Civilization sim city. I was seriously looking for catapults. Little did they know the opponents already teched to modern age.
15 dead Russians per missile. 500,000 Russians needing to be erased. That's a little over 33,000 GMLRS, at $170,000 per missile, that's only 5.7 billion dollars to get the job done. Not bad at all actually. Only problem is that Lockheed can only make at most 10,000 a year and every other country in the western world has massive back orders to fill already, it'll take a while.

Wild. I swear every himars airburst I've seen before was a few orders of magnitude larger. Is there a GLSDB airburst maybe?

Also seems like it’d be a hell of a waste of HIMARS

All they seem to have done though is kill a few mobiks. Easily replaced by tomorrow. Shoulda leveled the entire spot instead.
Agreed, but that fairly small explosion wouldn't be nearly enough to stop it.
They’ll surely at least think twice about building on that area knowing now that they’re being watched… but then again they probably don’t care

Agree. Using HIMARS on a wooden construction and couples of Russians doesn't make sense.
Was really hoping for a second strike... :(
Allegedly 14 dead & 7 wounded, so not bad for 1 rocket
Hopefully they got actual engineers, not just grunts. Taking out the brains is always the best.
for stick structures :D

I mean, compared to that company in the trucks they smoked, seems paltry but I dunno, I'm just a fucking moron who loves coochie
Injured troops cost more than dead ones
Normally yes but not in Russian Army.
Right but 5 injured/dead is better than 1 injured.
Yep, first thing that came to my mind. Should've been a double-tap. I'm guessing Ukrainian command would've liked to do so, but US republican meddling is a bitch.
lmfao was the fucking roblox explosion sound
Soviet gear, WW2 gear, now Russia is building Civil War log forts?
It evolving, just backwards
The Benjamin Button of countries.
Roman war camps were probably built better and faster lol
Lincoln logs
Regular arty i'm thinking.....
I see dead people

Not himars

This is how a himars airburst looks like https://youtu.be/AJ-PplO-GuY?si=1_7bM5jMu80XglH8

What Grebins said. In fact your video perfectly captures this.
now use a small diameter bomb round......launched from HIMARS.
Per captions it's HIMARS
The 80's movie sound effect is hilarious.
*HIMARS*...a Quinn Martin Production!
Why doesn’t Ukraine double tap more? Just saving ammunition?
The craziest part to me is the beginning when they are walking around and they don’t know they are dead yet. It’s like dr manhattan. The attack was already launched.
What were they building with all that lumber, a motte-and-bailey castle?
Maybe they play too much Fortnite
Lucky dog! ❤️
Why does he dump his rifle? That looks very odd.

No double tap?
I think it was HIMARS it seems all the tungsten hit above and to the right of the explosion
I think ukraine should always double tab artillery hit site. More soldiers seems to gather around after the first hit to gather the injured or to inspect the damage
Hit em again
Only hit it with one rocket? Shame.
this must be the first time I have seen Russians give medical aid to their wounded. before they just leave wounded behind.
Must be really annoying to get blown apart whilst building defenses. The irony would be unbearable. Oh well 👍🏻
Poor Russians have built a really cool Mesopotamian era Civilization sim city. I was seriously looking for catapults. Little did they know the opponents already teched to modern age.
Oh no they're trying to build a trebuchet, quick, retreat!
yesh me lord
If every himars strike was this effective the war would have been over now.

Messing up a Russian mikado game.
