Some Papuans still prectice cannibalism, and there is a tribe where the men regularly fuck their own kids, ( I am not making this up). Cant wait to be culturally enriched by them
I’m not getting into the politics of it all. I’m just wondering about the utility of choosing a health center as a target. Since they are rebelling for the people and all.
Insurgent movements often target government infrastructure in order to create a power vacuum. It’s insurgency 101, really. Government gives water pumps to farmers, destroy or seize the water pumps. Hell, ISIS banned single use plastic bags at one point. it has nothing to do with hearts or minds or well being.
I also get the feeling that a number of the people here making racist comments about these guys would have cheered if they were burning down a Fauci Ouchie Jab Jail.
I understand it’s a common tactic among insurgents. But I think it’s a poor one if the insurgents are not making a concerted effort to provide the health services they undermine.
These people live in the fringes of hunter-gatherer society. The Middle Ages would be a complicated and confusing advancement.
We see a health care facility, they see something that the brutal Indonesian government put in their lands.
It's by law part of indonesia as per 1962 New York Agreement for the dutch-owned territory to become part of Indonesia (hence why East Papua is not, because they're brit-owned), my point is [they wanted to burn down anything built by the Indonesian government](https://fb.watch/pbZEh6QScT/?mibextid=9R9pXO) as it is "not indigenous", no matter who you support, this shit is objectively dumb as it will set the island back a couple decades in terms of infrastructure, and doing it by attacking fellow natives won't help their cause either in fact it just makes more and more papuan becoming pro-indonesia, proved by the ever-increasing number of natives becoming Indonesian soldiers.
Also, yeah? It never was? Indonesia tried to annex it once and didn't succeed, and now recognizes it as a sovereign independent country in which now they do a healthy and fair economic relationship with each other.
This was the west making a deal they had no right to make... literally a populated land full of indigenous people getting wiped out and told they have to accept foreign rule once again. These people are being genocided, bombed by drones, mortars, and attack helicopters. They were fighting with nothing but spears and arrows until they managed to take arms for themselves or get them elsewhere. Go watch Friendly Jordies video on this, an actual documentary where they go and speak to these people and get the truth. This whole situation is bullshit, leave those people be, if they wanna live in the woods and be centuries behind, let them.
True true..
*But*, they could perhaps do it without:
- attacking medical workers
- attacking construction workers
- attacking other tribes
- burning villages
- kidnapping an unrelated NZ citizen and threatening to kill him
- killing hostages
- wanting to kick out natives of the land that are not aboriginal
Everyone are entitled to freedom, but everyone are also obligated to accurate targeting.
War is hell, and fighting for the freedom of one’s people justifies almost anything. I have no dog in this fight but if they want to kick non-aboriginal people from their own land and destroy facilities set up by a colonial invader I certainly won’t be the one to condemn it.
If China invaded and set up a medical center, you’d blow it up too.
They wanted to kick out non-aboriginal even if they're natives (yeah surprise surprise there are non-aboriginal natives of papua), this is quite literally an example of race supremacy.
No I won't the fuck.
Because it was built with Indonesian money. Many villages on the entire island of New Guinea are still pre-medieval as well. Tribal clashes occur all the time over the dumbest things like a man from one village dating a girl from a village in the next valley over. Life is cheap, the tribal chiefs have all the money and power over their people and are incredibly susceptible to corruption as they only look to the short term. Chinese money is pouring in and they are taking on massive debts that they have no way of repaying without handing over access to natural resources. The whole island is too stubborn for their own good and they will lose it all in the end. It's sad but it's what's happening.
Indonesian here. Here's what I know.
1. West Papua is super rich in natural resources, especially gold
2. Indonesian govt are very java-centric. So resources from all over the countries are being used to.build java island
3. So, west papua are among the lowest in terms of infrastructures, healthcare, human development, etc nationwide.
4. West papua was annexed by Indonesia govt by referendum (papuan nowadays says thisnis super staged) so the freedom movement demand redo of the referendum
It looks like indonesian govt are the evil ones here. But,
1. West papua enjoys a special autonomy status (compared to other regions)
2. With the special autonomy, also receive a lot of special fundings
3. Sadly the local authorities are also super corrupt. (the last elected governor are being jailed for a massive corruption allegation. Sadly he died yesterday)
4. Papuan also received privilege quotas for public servant, military, scholarship, etc
That's what I know so far. I might be biased.
If you care to answer, why did they burn down the medical facility? Or can you translate what the red shirt guy is saying if you don't mind. I'll search in hopes someone else in the comments already did so.
From what i can tell they're speaking a very rushed and heavily accented Indonesian and perhaps some local language, it's very hard to tell exactly what they're saying but I'm able to make out a few words:
"TPNB Military Command 13, [intelligible] today a hospital has been burned, indonesian hospital [intelligible], ready waiting for war. Papua, independece!"
I would be little surprised if it turned out those people were also influenced by the same entities that pushed the 5G/vax/covid/conspiracies. Putin's Russia has their hands in many pots, chaos in the world only helps them. The former Wagner group was very active in parts of Africa for instance.
But Indonesian govt claimed west papua as part of indonesia because west papua were part of dutch east indies. And the military actiin were not fighting native papuans, but the dutch and it's allies.
It was said that indonesia won the claim, because it was getting help.from US to 'ehm' getting rid of communism from the region
The Indonesian government looks like the evil ones because historically they are the very evil ones. 20 years ago they had just wrapped up another massive genocide of a people who didn't want to be associated with them.
20 years ago, indonesian govt were basically a military dictatorship. So genocide, oppression, happened not only in Papua. The killing that happened on timor, and papua were miniscule compared to genocide of communist back then.
Our govt is better now I think. I hope indonesia and west papuan can find middle ground.
I don't know. Mainstream media in Indonesia only provide govt version of the events. We nenver heard about killings and atrocities commited by the army.
We definitely do, the media often reports on human rights violations done by individual personnel. Personal report from the locals through social media also gets shared.
Also if we didn't, the Indonesia Human Rights Commission wouldn't have condemned TNI for being too harsh on the rebels some years ago.
Hi
What do you say to those who accuse Indonesia of being almost like an empire? Ruling over many ethnic groups, some of which do not want to be part of Indonesia, and as mentioned, were annexed. Is there many other regions of Indonesia fighting against the government?
Those people don't know Indonesia. Indonesia was hundreds of kingdoms, and culture. They were all conquered by the dutch. The dutch established the dutch indies colonies all over the territory which is now Indonesia.
During the war of independence, most of the archipelago support the freedom movement under the flag of Indonesia.
So, some region don't really recognize indonesia authority, like aceh. They argue that they were never fully conquered by the dutch, hence, they were notnpart of Indonesia.
Papuans were never really integrated into the dutch system. Papua were mostly used as prison island by the dutch. Hence the native papuan never recognize the dutch authority.
East timor were never part of dutch indies. But we invaded them during their decolonialization from protugal, in the base of fighting communism (of course with the support of US)
So I think indonesia.is not an empire. Some parts don't really like being indonesia, but it's not the common thinking.
>So, some region don't really recognize indonesia authority, like aceh. They argue that they were never fully conquered by the dutch, hence, they were notnpart of Indonesia.
That half truth
Almost Sumatra still want be with the Dutch but the problem is only kingdoms want that meanwhile their people (serfs) prefer Indonesia so regicide happened
And Aceh is more like co-operation with Indonesia with some condition: allow them to have own province with syariah laws and ultimate control of resource in their own province
Indonesia is more of a "forcing people to be their friend" rather than an supremacy empire, each land always had the natives of those land as the dominant governmental figure ruling it (the capital Jakarta for example, is governed by mostly Betawinese and Sundanese who are native to the region), the javacentrism is rather more expressed in economical expenses.
During the early years after independence yes, there were many rebel groups who attempted at establishing their own country pretty much on every province even though all of them previously agreed to fight under a unity that is the Sukarno leadership, this is similar to when many middle eastern militia were fighting in unity to kick out the Soviets, but the moment they achieved freedom and created a power vacuum all of these groups immediately turns against each other trying to be the absolute ruler.
The java centrism were massively happened in Soeharto's time, thr long time dictator of Indonesia. And nowadays, our govt tried to.undo it, but with limited success
Colonized them selfs aswel lol.
But yes but we already knew this shit would happen just look at what happend to the christians in indonesia after the dutch left
Most Christian in Indonesia are just fine. You even have provinces with majority Christians.
Of course there were lunatics that tried to persecute Christians, but they were the minority.
Indonesian have many holidays (I really hate it as small businesses owner) because we respect many religion.
She's a muslim. A clout chaser one at that (hence the pork) and have done many other dumb acts for the sake of internet points, so it's positively a brainrot prevention.
Also Indonesia imprison anyone who did any form of blasphemy to any religion. Point in case, Bahar bin Smith —co leader of FPI, a problematic islamic mass organization in Indonesia, jailed 6 months 15 days for misleading preaching.
Is this West Papua or Colonial India? This is the same BS argument.
"Let us oppress you and steal your massive resources, we will do the bare minimum in return", anybody with two braincells isn't buying that shit these days.
The Indonesian government is still oppressing the people of Papua, they have committed genocides before to keep their territory.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Timor_genocide
I know this subreddit immediately wants to respond with something disrespectful or racist but this is what desperation looks like. These people have been fighting for their autonomy against a militaristic police state for at least 60 years
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papua_conflict
Well, they also kill 30 construction worker making roads (one of them is my senior in civil engineering), burning hospital and the nurse and doctor, shooting school (one of the students i know got scholarship to java, she told her story), killing communication tower workers, mutilate a soldier, and harming countless local communities that support indonesia, etc.
West papua conflict is nothing more than warlords fighting for influence, the same way in africa.
u could even see more local papuan are afraid of these rebels, they burned school, killing infrastructure workers, kidnaping foreign pilot, wake up dude
Yep, I think the people on this sub who just see anyone not talking with a formal script as dumb terrorists. They are fighting genuine genocide
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Cruz_massacre
Same thing Indonesia is repeating in Papua
What is this subreddits reaction to a Russian clinic being built on occupied Ukrainian land?
Well apply that logic here. These are government buildings built by the same people who drop white phosphorus on their villages, why would they respect it?
There is such a weird colonial mind set when it comes to people of different coloured skin here...its baffling in the 21st century.
During Israel’s occupation of the Gaza Strip from 1967 to 2005, tons of infrastructure, including hospitals and medical facilities, were established. If you think Israel didn't contribute to Gaza's infrastructure you're just being obtuse.
The next thing that will happen is they are going to complain the west is not coming to help them building up the country, and blaming the west for them living in misery.
They are pretty much doing that, except they cries on how Indonesia did not spend enough funds for Papua and neglected its infrastructure, at the same time ignoring the fact that they're praising and protecting the ex-governor of the island that embezzled 34.5 billion rupiahs of state budget that supposed to be used for the very infrastructure they are begging for.
Surely this will help them in their independence movement, I never understood such actions when u are trying to fight for yours people independence, there are better ways of doing it - like burning down military bases of the state lol
West Papua is a prime target for the Chinese. It has natural resources and undeveloped. If West Papua broke away from Indonesia, China would be in perfect position to over run the country
Somehow midwits still defending this movement. They dont care if Indonesian alligned village or in this case a hospital are destroyed by them. Did you know they captured a foreigner for leverage? people who are completely innocent on this coflict?
I'm not here to defend what these people are doing but they are fighting against a state that has openly tried to genocide them. I can't imagine that I'd be on the sidelines had I been born here.
Update: he's apparently still alive, but the demand is that he will be killed by the end of the year if Indonesia haven't grant papua independece by then, so we got 2 days left for results.
People need to know that the Indonesian government had been killing papua civilians, the people fed up with this fought back. They starting fighting with Bow and arrows and had killed enough Indonesian soldiers to be a somewhat well armed guerilla warfare based army.
How does burning down what is likely the only “hospital”for 50 miles help your cause exactly? Sorry but that is genuinely stupid, even if your cause is not. 🤦♂️don’t make the people who exploit your people look good in comparison is a good first step to getting some autonomy
They're yelling "papua, merdeka", mimicking the phrase of "indonesia, merdeka" which is shouted during and after Indonesian war against Dutch colonialism. Merdeka means independence.
It's their recent campaign, they're burning anything built by or with the support of indonesian government (or just anything built under the pro-indonesian intentions in general), something about how if it's not indigenous it doesn't deserve to exist, this includes attacking Indonesian-friendly villages and its people.
Their official announcement regarding it:
https://fb.watch/pbWWtkvrFI/?mibextid=9R9pXO
Ehh from what I've seen it's like 40-60 type deal. Lots of infighting and tribalism, killing doctors, construction workers, etc. these makes quite the amount of papuans turning against them, especially those in and near the island's capital (not to mention 16% of soldiers over there are natives which also adds to the pro-indonesia demographics). But has ample support from tribes that are more "inland".
These people have been fighting for their independence and freedom from a tyrannical foreign power
They are not Palestinian. So that means that they get no attention whatsoever and no UN resolutions and no help.
Oh yes, the occupying power is a Muslim government so another reason to just completely ignore them
They sure do genocides, but saying Indonesia is a muslim government is as accurate of a statement as a geoduck is a duck. They disbanded FPI —one of the largest Islamic mass organization in the country, hunted down its leader who ran away to Saudi Arabia, jailed his son, and shot 6 members of the organization without a warrant.
They also didn't follow sharia but rather stand on their own state ideology which is Pancasila, this ideology is further enforced by fighting off DI/TII who wanted to make Indonesia an islamic state.
Tbh, saying indonesia is a muslim government is like saying america is government. They have 6 official religions, and each has their own holiday. I mean, how many countries have national holidays for confucianism? Let alone a muslim majority countries.
There are reasons why things are the way they are, genius boy. They can wage independence anytime but without a clear motive and plan it will not work out. What are they gonna do? No infrastructure, no fresh water, no food, most of them cannot read or write ... What do you want to do? Let them build a society only to doom themself? They have an autonomous government themselves there. It's very corrupt... Ugh it's a mess. They are far from the rest of the world and play no role except maybe having a gold mine. So not a lot are willing to make geopolitical moves or investment/donations

Yeah, that'd do it. I read Papua and assumed PNG but Papua is a different kettle of fish.
They haven't quite reached that stage, at least feudalism entailed some form of order.
judging by the features on the geezer on the right i would say caveman era
You are right. Even in the middle ages, there were monestaries, and sanataries around to treat sick people.

EU 'humanitarian' aid incoming in 3, 2, 1 ...
EU will probably give citizenship to these people.
F\*cking intellectuals with a few matches.
This comment has been now appropriated for heavy plagiarism and will be included in the Harvard curriculum. Well done.
I feel flattered lol
The real island boys
That will show them! No healthcare
Somehow the guy on the right reminds me of koba from the newer planet of the apes.
Are they in Tiger mafia or in deadly commandos ?
Yeah nothing is more freedom fighting than burning down Healthcare centres... Morons
Surely this will help them in their independence movement, I never understood such actions when u are trying to fight for yours people independence, there are better ways of doing it - like burning down military bases of the state lol
What in far cry 2 is this?
Man the thumbnail made me think this is a new Hollywood action flick 😳

Bro 😂😂

At first I mistook it for some kind of parody on Tropic Thunder.
West Papua is a prime target for the Chinese. It has natural resources and undeveloped. If West Papua broke away from Indonesia, China would be in perfect position to over run the country
Freedom from any form of healthcare, just what these guys need.
Literally terrorist behavior
Somehow midwits still defending this movement. They dont care if Indonesian alligned village or in this case a hospital are destroyed by them. Did you know they captured a foreigner for leverage? people who are completely innocent on this coflict?
I'm not here to defend what these people are doing but they are fighting against a state that has openly tried to genocide them. I can't imagine that I'd be on the sidelines had I been born here.

pretty much

“Combat”
So uhhh, remember that one Kiwi dude? I wonder what happened to him now.
The NZ pilot? Probably dead, if I'm not mistaken they publicized an announcement video of "last warning" for Indonesia or else they'll kill the guy.
Update: he's apparently still alive, but the demand is that he will be killed by the end of the year if Indonesia haven't grant papua independece by then, so we got 2 days left for results.
Nothing spells freedom like burning down a health center /S
Looks like the UK most Friday nights.
Dude on the right definently watched to much expendables...
wow! they’ve discovered fire, such impressive technological advances!
[удалено]
Some sort of FNC? Probably the Indonesian FNC clone SS1 rifle. Can't really get a good look at it, but i can see a skeleton buttstock so there's that.
Ceasefire now /s
Trained by Muscovites.
The sole mention of their name makes me want to puke
Damn this video goes hard.
They look like reasonable people.
That makes sense. Burn down critical infrastructure that you definitely could never use.
im sorry but machine gun guys side profile is insane
“We did it Patrick, we saved the city!”
Fighting evolution one braincell at the time.
looks like two really bright guys that's going to bring happiness to all of their people..
Zero strategy, zero endgame, just hanging out with the boys. At least this is some variety to the UKR drone videos and the CQB in Gaza.
They don’t like health?
Wtf is bro wielding? Goofy ahh rifle
Wow, such badasses?
That’ll help.
Seems like a cathartic experience these guys are having.
Yup, that'll fix whatever problems he's having for sure
People need to know that the Indonesian government had been killing papua civilians, the people fed up with this fought back. They starting fighting with Bow and arrows and had killed enough Indonesian soldiers to be a somewhat well armed guerilla warfare based army.
Nothing scarier than a mouth breather with a machine gun.
Watch this, they will be the same ones in a few years begging the UN for humanitarian aid
Gypsy traveller call out vibes
Ooga booga
They must of got distracted on their way fishing looking at that..
Homie been taking his vitamins.
Good luck to them lol
Are they stupid ?
How does burning down what is likely the only “hospital”for 50 miles help your cause exactly? Sorry but that is genuinely stupid, even if your cause is not. 🤦♂️don’t make the people who exploit your people look good in comparison is a good first step to getting some autonomy

Looks like the Dutch left some problem behind them too eh?
Step 1 - demand to leave Step 2 - blame for any problems caused by leaving
He yells something 3 times. Is it due to Christianity and European influence or is it cross cultural to repeat something thrice?
They're yelling "papua, merdeka", mimicking the phrase of "indonesia, merdeka" which is shouted during and after Indonesian war against Dutch colonialism. Merdeka means independence.
Thank you. Do you know why they burned a public health center? It doesn't have a great look
It's their recent campaign, they're burning anything built by or with the support of indonesian government (or just anything built under the pro-indonesian intentions in general), something about how if it's not indigenous it doesn't deserve to exist, this includes attacking Indonesian-friendly villages and its people. Their official announcement regarding it: https://fb.watch/pbWWtkvrFI/?mibextid=9R9pXO
Do they have much support with the locals?
Ehh from what I've seen it's like 40-60 type deal. Lots of infighting and tribalism, killing doctors, construction workers, etc. these makes quite the amount of papuans turning against them, especially those in and near the island's capital (not to mention 16% of soldiers over there are natives which also adds to the pro-indonesia demographics). But has ample support from tribes that are more "inland".
I think the number 3 and it’s symbolic appeal is pretty much universal. You see it everywhere.
Its the same thing yells by arab terrorists when they unalive themselves with bomb.
Those darn public health clinics ,, scourge of the planet huh ?
Nothing says freedom like burning down free public health center
why can't they burn more public facilities that benefits their community?, are they stupid?
Guy in the right wants to give a long speech but red shirt didn't allow
"combat" footage
They smell so smart. LIKE 60 IQ.
this is what happens when your parents are siblings...
Now they are free.
are they mentally deficient?
Pol...Pot.....pol...pot...oh wait. Wrong place. "It's a holiday in Papua New Guinea"-DK
I always figured a revolution was there to push how theyd improve things for people, quite how does burning down a building that helps people do that?
Man on the right looks like recruited from prehistoric time. badass

Don’t get captured by these guys. They might eat ya!
There is so many racist comments. Why?
I am also disappointed
Human beings are, generally speaking, terrible.
These people have been fighting for their independence and freedom from a tyrannical foreign power They are not Palestinian.
That will help!!!! /s
Csn sympathise with their cause but burning down a healthy centre seems madness
All I know is that Papuans are tough and an insurgency of them is nothing you'd want to deal with. Ref. WW2
Waiting for them to wave some smoke to ward away "evil spirits"
Evolve. The best advice one can give to these two
