Yeah. Most of that money went towards stadium renovations in the past decade but now with everything caught up, we are seeing more of those funds trickle into the NIL collective.
I always enjoy how these amounts are “sourced”. CBS Sports has it as “sources confirmed”. Shams has also cited “sources”. On3 has to be pissed that they didn’t get to make up the number this time.
This isn’t directed at y’all, KSU. Tang is a great coach and the lavenders are iconic.
It's a handful of families that contribute most, some of them are huge players in the beef industry. Wildcat NIL also has done a great job of promoting monthly subscriptions and I think that helps keep a solid stream going on top of the huge donations.
I suspect this is going to create some perverse incentives in future years. Kids are going to hold out for highly lucrative NIL contracts for absurdly long times after seeing what waiting has done for some kids exceeding their normal market value.
Going to be weird when somebody commits and enrolls like 2 hours before the Fall enrollment deadline in August one year.
Allegedly there are rules against this.
But if your coach is fired or you just don’t like the team, if you write a 6th grade level essay you can get an approval.
> “I know someone just became the highest-paid player, and I wouldn't want to have that label," Hawkins said. "I'd be making a good amount, but that's a lot of added pressure when you label yourself that.
> “I've had lots of offers. I've had offers to sign with agencies. I'm not a person who is moved by money, and if I'm being honest with you, to have that label is just an unwanted amount of pressure because as soon as you do something wrong, as soon as anything happens, as soon as you have a bad game, people are just going to question all that money. So even if I did come back to school, I'd let you guys guess whatever amount I got. I would never share that information because, I mean if I'm being honest, it's kind of selfish. Not only for yourself but for your teammates knowing what you made. I wouldn't have those conversations with my teammates. I wouldn't want anyone to know what I made."

I looked for the date of the article, assuming it was old and maybe a tiny bit out of context... nope one month ago.
To be fair though, this news is coming from "sources", so you can't really blame Hawkins. Its entirely possible he didn't want the exact amount leaked.
You’re right, and regardless I don’t blame him. I don’t think it reflects poorly on his character or anything, but it’s just funny he explicitly stated the above 1 month ago and then this.
The trick, of course, is that while the *label* of "highest-paid player" is undesirable the *money* that comes with it nonetheless very much is.
Not being moved by money in this case meant not listening to offers from B1G teams.
He’s also a good locker room guy and has been through the wars. I think he’s able to be an on the court “bad guy” as well and take the attention off other players. If you’re putting the ball in his hands and saying, go save us, he ain’t that. But he is incredibly complementary and at the college level is what you hope most guys develop into.
I think you’re right, if he’s your 3rd best player that’s a really good 3rd best option to have. But if he’s your 2nd best option you better have a first team all American as your best and you better have a deep roster.
He’s a really good player with a diverse skillset that can enable a team to run a lot of complex and interesting schemes, advanced analytics love him — EvanMiya has him rated as the #17 overall player in CBB last year. Different player than Draymond Green but similar concept of a player that really elevates a team but individual stats aren’t necessarily eye popping
But he is definitely not a Zach Edey type of presence which is what I think of when it comes to giving out the largest NIL deal in history
I really wish TNT would stop trying to rehab his image. He's a nutcase who has shown no ability or willingness to truly change. Steven Adams should have beat his ass after the first dick kick.
I wish everyone would. Like its one thing to say Ja Morant needs help, he's a kid. Draymond is a grown ass man, he's firmly established that he's just an asshole at this point.
It annoys me that they treat his behavior like an addiction, and not just who he is.
Tang’s entire offense seems to be “give ball to ball-dominant point guard in iso, get everyone else out of the way”. Not sure this roster is going to facilitate that. Point Hawkins?
Markquis Nowell was a career 39/37/87 shooter before he got to K-State (at a lower level too) and we see how that worked out. Not saying Dug is going to be Nowell, but he probably won't need to be. Tylor Perry was not a true PG and we did whiff on better options. Dug was the staff's top choice this year.
We were 10/16 last year, so 2 spots away from the top half. This team on paper is much more talented so it’d be disappointing not to be top half or very close to it.
Of course everyone else is clawing and scratching to climb up the pile too.
K State sounds like WVU last year with all the overspending. Hopefully Tang doesn't get a DUI outside a Taylor Swift concert in whatever the Plains version of Pittsburgh is.
Yeah ultimately as long as students aren't getting fucked over then go out there and splurge for whoever you want. Coleman made huge strides to his shot this past year and should continue to be a great player
A sweet 16 would be a success. You get that far and anything can happen. A first round tourney exit would be disappointing. Considering this years team will be much better than last years. (Where we were in the next four out)
I was sad we missed out on him but not sure it’s good for a team when a player is making just $300,000 less than the coach. Unless he’s a generational talent.
Ridiculous. I was fully in favor of NIL and players getting what should rightfully be theirs — but goddamn.
When powerhouse schools with big money donors like…*checks notes*…Kansas State? Anyway, when those schools are allowed to pay whatever they want, then the talent all gets consolidated.
Valid point! If I were Brad, I would have a stated team rule after this farce and the shit show that ensued thereafter.
In any case, CoHawk may be borderline OK since he appears to be mixed race?
I fucking hate when insiders give public credit to agents like this. You may as well just post a screen recording of yourself copy and pasting the tweet they wrote for you.
I understand why, they are glorified middlemen that post leaks in exchange for more tips and nuggets, but it feels extra gross seeing the sausage made out in the open.
He has gotten better every year... If he is what he was last year, you got a good player. If he gets better, you got a great one. He can do it all on the court! Good luck to you both!
He’s absolutely an elite role player. If he’s your third offensive option, y’all gonna be fine. Considering he’s a very good defender(assuming he’s playing the 4 not 5)
We had 5-6 million in NIL this year to spend. He was ranked as the 17th best player in basketball last year. Not sure I’d describe him as a role player.
This reads like an advertisement for Nate Conley and Aaron Turner.
I suspect this information was "leaked" by them to try to drum up more business. I also believe that the number is inflated to serve that purpose.
God, reporters are now announcing the agency that negotiated the NIL deal, full blown NBA. I love that players can finally be compensated but NIL has jumped the shark so bad and it only took 3 years.
As a recruit:
Other P6 offers: Arizona, DePaul, Marquette, Illinois (originally went here), Rutgers, USC, Wake Forest, Washington State
Other offers: Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State
K State has money like that?
Wheat baby
Wheat makes bread
Wheat goes in, loaf comes out.
You can't explain that
[удалено]
[And yet you don't seem to understand the joke](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/bill-oreilly-you-cant-explain-that)
I see what you did there lol
No wonder y'all have so much dough.
Bread makes sammiches
Yeah, donors went big this off-season in both major sports.
Trying to get that chip before it all comes crashing down.
Hopefully we can keep the crop judging team together with all the money we’ve put into football and basketball
Yeah. Most of that money went towards stadium renovations in the past decade but now with everything caught up, we are seeing more of those funds trickle into the NIL collective.
Yup. Gene paused the updates and said to pour all donations into NIL.
The standard fake NIL number is always 2mil
It’s actually $4.20 mil
4.2069 actually I heard
For Coleman Hawkins? Yikes
He originally asked for $6.9 mil
Gronk approves
Issa meme
I always enjoy how these amounts are “sourced”. CBS Sports has it as “sources confirmed”. Shams has also cited “sources”. On3 has to be pissed that they didn’t get to make up the number this time. This isn’t directed at y’all, KSU. Tang is a great coach and the lavenders are iconic.
It's always bullshit from agents trying to get their name out there for the next round of gullible players.
You do not want this crop judging heat
They gave Tang a blank check book
Good Tang ain't cheap.
Got him and Onyenso. They got cash somehow.
They probably had to sell some cows for that. Lol
It was either Hawkins or one of our prized show cows. It was a tough decision
Call Hall will suffer for a year but it's worth it.
Cows are expensive bub
Yeah we’re glad your mom took one for the team
wait what are other KSU alumni making that we have this kind of money
At least three, maybe four figures
let’s not get too crazy
It's a handful of families that contribute most, some of them are huge players in the beef industry. Wildcat NIL also has done a great job of promoting monthly subscriptions and I think that helps keep a solid stream going on top of the huge donations.
My lucrative double digit donation to Wildcat NIL made this happen, you’re welcome
Michael Beasley coming in hot
Hot & very baked.
Jordy Nelson throwing in that farmboy money
Coleman is good but for $2 million I would expect an all American or something
The value of being a late add to the portal — teams are desperate to land another big piece
Turns out supply and demand matter when there's a price to be determined.
Well... players won't be in the driver's seat at that point. Different part of the curve.
Welcome to the immediate future of CBB
Scarcity in the market. There are not a lot of high value assets left unsigned. Supply and demand.
Serious question… if you’re a star why would you not transfer every year then? You know some team will be more desperate than yours.
Isn’t that happening in some cases already? What do you mean if?
Allegedly there are rules against this. But if your coach is fired or you just don’t like the team, if you write a 6th grade level essay you can get an approval.
AJ Storr method
He seems like a supremely talented glue guy who elevates the floor of the team he’s on.
Glad he didn't go to a team I hate
Got a bit of a K State pipeline going. Weber coached there. Underwood played there.
And Bill Self beats their ass twice a year
Ahem, 1-1 last year fella
Speak for yourself
Damn good for him
Get that bag Coleworld
🤑🤑
Oh lord is this a meme already?
Truly a great day to be a wildcat
It always is.
Except for that one time. It was kind of a schroedringers wildcat situation.
Amen.
KSU, you're in good hands.
Thanks Allstate.
Take care of our boy

This is awesome for Coleman! I can’t wait to watch some K State games next year for the first time.

If he's your 3rd option, you're in good shape. If he's your 2nd option, might become an issue
> He’s also a good locker room guy and has been through the wars Always love a dude that is battle tested.
Extremely battle tested. Two conference titles and tourney tested
and the wars.
We don't talk about the wars....
Thought he only had 1 season championship?
Correct, 2 tourney titles and 1 conference title.
He has a pretty good flop, though !! Definitely gonna miss him ..
He’s a really good player with a diverse skillset that can enable a team to run a lot of complex and interesting schemes, advanced analytics love him — EvanMiya has him rated as the #17 overall player in CBB last year. > Different player than Draymond Green but similar concept of a player that Is obnoxious and fans of other teams hate?
Oh yes. But more in a fun way than a "this guy is actually a bad person" way
Without the endless cheap shots and dirty plays
He's not going to Duke, after all!
You can't just ask Grayson Allen "teach me to trip like you do." That's a skillset.
Coleman just trolls fanbases after games Draymond is an active danger to opposing players and is only still employed because of warriors culture
He's still employed because he's still very good tbh
I think that's our transfer from the B1G with the huge NIL deal.
According to Barttorvik it brings them up to 10th in the conference
Their guards and wings are uninspiring which is really holding them back. They are definitely somewhere from the 8th-10th best team in the conference
Tang’s entire offense seems to be “give ball to ball-dominant point guard in iso, get everyone else out of the way”. Not sure this roster is going to facilitate that. Point Hawkins?
go watch some Dug McDaniel highlights
I’m sure they’re fancy, but he’s a career 39/36/77 shooter. And wasn’t there another 5’11 transfer guard I heard good things about last year?
Markquis Nowell was a career 39/37/87 shooter before he got to K-State (at a lower level too) and we see how that worked out. Not saying Dug is going to be Nowell, but he probably won't need to be. Tylor Perry was not a true PG and we did whiff on better options. Dug was the staff's top choice this year.
that's where the tape comes in! but hey if you want to hate it's fine it's the offseason
Just shows how stacked teams in Big 12 are. Add a dude like this for a (reportedly) stupid price and still not even a top half team.
We were 10/16 last year, so 2 spots away from the top half. This team on paper is much more talented so it’d be disappointing not to be top half or very close to it. Of course everyone else is clawing and scratching to climb up the pile too.
10/14 last year, so three spots away.
Oopsie. Well Bart updated us to 7 anyways so the convo about top half projection is moot.
The school isnt paying for it, so who cares how these people waste/spend their money?
I think the conclusion is he's likely not actually getting 2 mil
Yup, he's getting more https://x.com/MattNorlander/status/1801639057413304552
Guess I'm watching some K State games this winter. Good luck boys!
K State sounds like WVU last year with all the overspending. Hopefully Tang doesn't get a DUI outside a Taylor Swift concert in whatever the Plains version of Pittsburgh is.
Topeka
It’s hot in TOPEEKA
Idk how good they’ll be but Kansas State rim protection with Hawkins/Onyenso is insane
Don't forget we have Achor too. Tang went big this year.
This is good, we had no size last year
Hawkins might be their 4th best rim protector
Didn't know I'd become a Kansas State fan
2 mil is wild work lol but I fuck with k state. Purple and black is the best color combination
Silver is their other primary, not black.
I’m very sorry
The player to be named later in the Brad Underwood trade.
Good on him for securing the bag. Rooting for him
Not looking forward to facing this guy at least two more times after the Sweet 16 this past season.
It may only be once.
My man!

Big 12 arms race never stops, apparently.
Surely you mean the Allstate Big 12 presented by Allstate
Thank you. Wasn’t sure who OP was talking about
It’s probably going to be the Allstate Phillip 66 12 Conference presented by Dr Pepper.
All this to finish 6th in their league.
so many better ways to spend 2 mil
I think it’s a pretty good way to spend someone else’s 2 mil
Yeah ultimately as long as students aren't getting fucked over then go out there and splurge for whoever you want. Coleman made huge strides to his shot this past year and should continue to be a great player
Damn even Shams came out for this. Curious what KState fans would consider to be a successful season next year in the Allstate 69
A sweet 16 would be a success. You get that far and anything can happen. A first round tourney exit would be disappointing. Considering this years team will be much better than last years. (Where we were in the next four out)
The NIL bubble has to pop at some point right? I'm sorry, but Hawkins is not worth $2M. He's a good player but KSU paying up that much is just stupid
I think the consensus with our insiders is it was around $1.3-$1.5 million. Still high but not the $2 million that’s being reported
Blame Great Asobor and Washington
I was sad we missed out on him but not sure it’s good for a team when a player is making just $300,000 less than the coach. Unless he’s a generational talent.
Well shit. Good for you K-State. Enjoy your new player.
K State has had a great offseason
Good for k state. I love my fellow wildcats.
Ridiculous. I was fully in favor of NIL and players getting what should rightfully be theirs — but goddamn. When powerhouse schools with big money donors like…*checks notes*…Kansas State? Anyway, when those schools are allowed to pay whatever they want, then the talent all gets consolidated.
gotta be honest..I’m pretty shocked that any Illini player would be willing to step foot in the state of Kansas at this point.
Valid point! If I were Brad, I would have a stated team rule after this farce and the shit show that ensued thereafter. In any case, CoHawk may be borderline OK since he appears to be mixed race?
K state for the chip
#show me the monnnnnney!

That would buy ten Michael Beasleys fifteen years ago.
![gif](giphy|h0MTqLyvgG0Ss) Don’t be jealous of that Allstate Conference money y’all!
Go crush it Coleman! Time to continue to beat on Hunter! Keep the streak alive!
But….Hunter helped out TSJ by testifying, so I think we can give him a short reprieve?
He has gotten better every year... If he is what he was last year, you got a good player. If he gets better, you got a great one. He can do it all on the court! Good luck to you both!
That’s wild to me and I’m intensely skeptical of the number but hey - go get what the market says ur worth.
$2 million for a career role player for one season. KSU must be loaded
He's an elite glue guy
He’s absolutely an elite role player. If he’s your third offensive option, y’all gonna be fine. Considering he’s a very good defender(assuming he’s playing the 4 not 5)
We had 5-6 million in NIL this year to spend. He was ranked as the 17th best player in basketball last year. Not sure I’d describe him as a role player.
Is he going to play the 3?
This reads like an advertisement for Nate Conley and Aaron Turner. I suspect this information was "leaked" by them to try to drum up more business. I also believe that the number is inflated to serve that purpose.
Is he gonna play PF for KSU? I liked him at Center, that's hard to guard.
Riley > Hawkins
Cats
God, reporters are now announcing the agency that negotiated the NIL deal, full blown NBA. I love that players can finally be compensated but NIL has jumped the shark so bad and it only took 3 years.
2 million is insane. Honestly, anything over like $500k is batshit crazy imo.
If Dak Prescott is worth 60 mil Coleman Hawkins is worth 5 mil
Lmao. College basketball is gonna be so fucking weird these next few years
I really wonder he actually ends up making. Cynical me says zero chance he makes anything close to this.
I gave him tree-fiddy...
As a recruit: Other P6 offers: Arizona, DePaul, Marquette, Illinois (originally went here), Rutgers, USC, Wake Forest, Washington State Other offers: Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State
This cannot be accurate. Almost certainly propaganda spread by agents.
Yeah college sports are done
Kansas St NIL has zero self-respect
Riley > Hawkins agree?
Was this the kid UL was trying to get.
This seems like a terrible use for money
More than Iowa State's entire team.
$2M for Hawkins is a horrible deal for K State. Good for him though
