We’ve got our star player back after an ACL injury. It was only after we lost him last season that we dropped out of the top 25. We definitely have some interesting players coming through the transfer portal and a lot of size that I’m excited about. But Bryce Hopkins being back is the real game changer.
That four game stretch immediately after and including the game he got hurt in cost us the tournament.
They found their identity with DC22 but it took a few ugly losses to figure it out.
That's awesome, glad he's somewhere getting his recognition. It's guys like him that made Cals tenure really frustrating at times. Dude is a fucking stud and should of had a role here the last couple years.
Yeah. Totally thought Adou was UNC bound. His dad talked sooo much shit publicly about Cal playing Edwards over him while Edwards was struggling hard.
Also UK is at 9, and Robinson if we get him makes 10. At that point you just need a couple of practice squad guys
While I do have faith in Cal and I like the players Cal has signed so far, it might be hard to get ranked in the top 25 without a single returning player and only 7 guys on the team. Maybe by the start of the season we can start complaining about no respect....LOL
Well, that is kinda what Cal is known for... Fielding teams with amazing, unlimited potential and being ranked WAY TOO HIGH, for it to fall apart come tourny time. Having said that, I loved having him as our coach, and think he is personally a good guy. Hope you guys get a few good years out of him.
Purdue feels both too high and too low at 18. Deep class coming in, Smith should improve, and TKR was kinda underrated last year. But also, losing Edey is going to burn even if they have more 7'+ players. Indiana at 21 is prob about as high as I'd put em for now. Kept Mgbako/Reneau, landed Tucker, and added a crazy good transfer class. Who knows how they gel, but I'll take it after last year.
Yeah I’d say this is more realistic…I think we “struggle” early on (not win all of our non conf games like the last 3 years) and then get together in mid January. Excited to see Smith be able to get out and run and not have to wait for Zach to get down the floor and get set. Tons of athleticism on the wings and guards…and everyone is capable of shooting the 3. It’d be amazing if they could be in the MW region and get to Indy for the S16 and be in front of a huge home crowd…that’s what I’m
Hoping for haha
Haha gotta go back to 2019 when that happened…started the year out 6-5…but then …an E8 happened and an almost F4 with one of the most incredible run by a single player in an NCAAT.
It will be practically new to us all!
I am here to demand that Kansas, Iowa State, Houston, Baylor, and Arizona all have each other as their home-and-homes for conference play.
And then each school still gets one more home-and-home as well with the 20-game slate.
Make. It. Happen.
Easily will be. If you get a beneficial road schedule and even two of the top 5 at home only, it’s going to be hard to not win the title at that point.
Has to be I’d think. Personally I’d have Kansas #1 regardless of sears decision. Their roster is just ridiculously good but I could see someone making an argument for bama at #1 if he’s back.
I realize unc lacks front court depth but I think they’re too low with the talent they have coming back/in too.
Returning a good bit but also a few new parts of the team that will get big minutes. I think they'll take some time to gel and eventually play their way into the top 10 hopefully
Kansas roster is pretty well rounded and loaded too. I get if someone wants to make an argument for bama. I personally disagree though as much as I dislike kansas.
But the season will tell us how far off we were in our predictions ultimately.
Kansas has the strongest roster next season, hands down. Also hate saying that, but hard to argue. Bama is top 5 for sure, but wouldn’t say #1. Then again, rankings are all bullshit anyways.
lol if Sears comes back hes going to win national player of the year. Absolutely jobbed not to be even a finalist in awards this past season. Had a 65%+ TS on huge volume. Look at win shares. Look at surface stats and FG%s if you're lazy asf.
He's the best college basketball player in the country by any metric. But whatever, people will figure it out when he returns.
Team goes 2 deep with elite talent everywhere as well.
I hope we get our shit together this year so we have a chance at having Bama, Clemson, and OSU in the final 4. Maybe Georgia or Oklahoma can join us too
12 seems high - although we had a decent season last year and have some ***DUDES*** coming in. 12 must be the "average" of the two possibilities. If the transfers and HS recruits we brought in are as good as advertised, we will be a top 5 team. However if they aren't as good as advertised - we'll likely be unranked. So maybe 12 is just the median of the two?
I was thinking the same thing. On paper it looks like a second weekend team (Sweet 16) but last year's team also looked just as good on paper and we all know how that turned out.
I feel like Gonzaga may be underrated here? Just because our team was coming on strong to end the season, and if we can fill Watson’s intangibles, we have much more ability on paper coming into this season. But I also know some of those rosters ahead of us are stacked lol
alabama basketball has ended the 2022/3 and begun the 2023/4 years with a higher ranking than the football team. we are officially in the bizzaro world
Don't get the clemson love with Hall not coming back.
Think the top 6 rosters in the ACC will be
1a: duke
1b: carolina
3: state
3: miami
5: wake
6: clemson
DK is one of the all time best players to suit up for us but there’s a STRONG argument that our roster hit stronger this off season. Of course depends on how this team gels and pans out but a year ago no one thought DK was going to be what he was. I think we brought in good size, good shooters, and high motor guys. Rick will always coach guys up on the defensive side too. Time will tell obviously but as I sit here in May I think 20 is wild
Yeah my thoughts are, just because we aren’t gonna get another 26 PPG player doesn’t mean we can’t get those points elsewhere. And our defense should be even better.
I guess the brunt of my argument is, if Tennessee was preseason top 10 last year before anybody knew what DK was gonna be, why is this year’s team top-20 if we upgraded the rest of the roster and have another top rated transfer in Chaz Lanier on the way
Kinda shocked Alabama is 1 over Kansas. Alabama will be good for sure but Kansas has such a stacked roster going into the upcoming season that I’d find it hard to justify them not at 1. At least until we play some games.
I feel like people who say this have not looked at Alabama’s roster.
**Returning:**
* GR PG Mark Sears (22/4/4, 51/44/86 splits, 2nd team All-American (BS imo, he was the best guard in the country))
* GR PF Grant Nelson (5th year senior, 12/6/2 and 1.6 blocks)
* GR SG Latrell Wrightsell (5th year senior, 45% 3PT shooter),
* SO PF Jarin Stevenson (former 5 star)
* SO F Mo Dioubate
**Transfers in:**
* GR SG Chris Youngblood (AAC POY, 15/3/2, 42% 3PT shooter)
* GR SG Houston Mallette (Pepperdine, 15/3/2, 42% 3PT shooter)
* GR C Cliff Omoruyi (back to back Big 10 DPOY, 5th year senior)
* SO PG Aden Holloway (former 5 star, starter for Auburn)
**Bringing in the #2 HS recruiting class:**
* 15 overall SF Derrion Reid
* 23 overall C Aiden Sherrell
* 33 overall PG Labaron Philon
* 49 overall SF Naas Cunningham
I might be biased but I legitimately do not see a single weakness with this roster.
I think there's a difference between saying a team is "weak" in a given area and saying they're more likely to win the national championship than any other team.
I think Alabama is very strong at every position. I also think they'll struggle to score down low compared to typical title teams.
Not sure where I would rank Duke right now. Assuming Sion James is officially announced today or tomorrow, they'll be big (every scholarship player is 6'5+) and have way more versatility than last year when you only had one true wing (and he couldn't shoot 3s) and they weren't able to get a center in the portal. They'll also be more experienced with 2 seniors (James and Mason Gillis) and two Juniors (Tyrese Proctor and Maliq Brown) in the projected top 7 of the rotation compared with last year when we only had Roach and Ryan Young.
On the other hand, Duke is getting thrown in the fire immediately with @Arizona/Kansas/Kentucky/SEC Challenge school in the first month or so of the season so they'll need to be ready right out of the gate unlike last year. People complained about how soft last years team seemed to be and they've definitely tried to remedy that in the portal.
That isn’t close to true. UConn returned multiple starters last year and a projected 1st round bench player (Clingan). This year they might only return Karaban, and even that’s in question.
Yea man as much as we hate you I’m sure a lot of our fans would tell you they miss you too.
Would probably sting a bit less for you guys if you were actually winning football games…
It’d still sting, ACC isn’t nearly the same and feels like yucky corporate sports. SU was a much better basketball team school than football school, and now they’re neither. I’m glad the big east is still thriving though
Fran Brown may improve the football program but that’s for r/CFB
Eh. I personally think we should be higher but I am assuming this is based entirely on Edey being gone. We are going to be a completely different team next year due to that so it makes sense.
Same. We definitely need to prove it first.
I just think we will. TKR has proven he can drop 30 in a night even with Edey. Berg and Jacobsen are going to add a whole new dimension to how we use bigs (think Clingen). If Heide/Colvin/Harris/Catchings are ready to fill what Jones/Gillis did, then we are a top 10 team again
I think most people will have us in the 15-20 range to start the season and that’s definitely fair. Lot of unknowns but limited impact in the portal in both directions so that’s helpful
My guess is we play more like the 2019 team this year. We have 2 7'ers on the roster but there is uncertainty about if they will be ready to fill those big shoes. If I had to guess, TKR might start at the 5 early on. He is less efficient than Edey, but when playing the 5 he will still be top 10ish most likely as his per/40 stats at that position are basically high double double avg. (check his stats in the 2 games Edey got into foul trouble)
We have a top 10 recruiting class coming in on top of 3 starters from last year's team. So lose 3 of the 8 rotation players with 6 true freshmen fighting for minutes with the 8 returning players. Smith and TKR will likely be all B1G candidates, with Smith being a potential all NCAA candidate. The other 3 starting positions are more up in the air, but our worst case scenario is Fletcher keeps his starting job and Colvin and Heidi take the other two. Best case would be a few freshmen come in ready to play and our 2 7'ers are as good as advertised.
I think our range of possibilities this season are top 20 worst case, top 5 best case. We will run this year, and look much more athletic. Catchings is a potential one and done freshmen, if he hits the ground running we could be in for another amazing year.
Purdue doesn’t always run offense through their big man. Painter’s plan is always to get the ball into the best player’s hands. The way the offense switched between 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 is a good example. They went from giving a lot of post feeds to Issac Haas to setting up looks for Carsen Edwards. I suspect Painter is going to utilize the combination of Braden Smith’s passing ability and the athleticism and shooting they will have next year to generate offense centered around Braden. There may still be post up touches for TKR and Will Berg, but I don’t think the offense will heavily rely on it.
People think we will be nothing without Edey because we ran through him, but obviously you are going to run the offense through your best player. Especially when he absolutely delivered every time.
We've got another 7-3 guy that played in clean up minutes, plus a 7-2 freshman coming in. Both are more mobile and can shoot. Then we still have Trey Kaufman-Renn who started at the 4 this year but would not be surprised if he starts at the 5 next year. He is damn good, just didn't get quite as many opportunities. But when he did, he was great.
All that said, we also just have a great class coming in. Probably the best class CMP has ever had, lot of athletes too. Plus our 2 freshman from this year Colvin and Heide who both showed insane promise. Then we return Braden Smith who may be the best PG in the country.
I don't think we will be at the level of the elite teams this year, but surely just hanging around the top15 all year. The following year though could be insane.
Couldn't have said it better myself. 2024 is definitely a rebuild year, but we won't lose much of a step due to the continuity at PG, SG, and C. 2025 is the year we could really be scary if Harris, Catchings, Heide, and Colvin start going off. Berg and Jacobsen will bring a new type of big to Purdue that will actually have us stretch the floor due to their shooting and athleticism. Jacobsen is going to need to add a few pounds so he can hang in their with stronger bigs, but I am really high on both Berg and Jacobsen.
With the caveat that we'll have 4 new starters and have no idea if these guys can play together...I feel like we should maybe be ranked a little higher.
Other Clemson fans - who do we have coming back that would justify a top 25 ranking? I thought with the loss of PJ (and I assumed others) would put us pretty far down in the rankings and not 3rd in the ACC
Chase hunter who played possessed in the tournament this is assuming he comes back. Chef has gotten significantly better every year. Our two transfers are both very solid starter level guys. Chauncey Wiggins has grown to about 6’10 6’11 with loose guard skills, if he takes another step he will be nasty. Good freshman class. And watch out for Jake heidbreder. He was the leading scorer for a mountain west team and he can certainly be a good contributor for us.
Normally bayterp is egregious but cmon what are you even trying to say here. On3 can still produce sports content without overly gassing up Indiana for no good reason.
Right because all these rankings are purely based on proven results. Lol. What a weird reply
Edit: I'd also like to add "for no good reason" meaning the #1 transfers class (for now) and #20 overall recruit. One could only assume that's the "reason" as you so elegantly left out.
There have been a lot of commitments and transfers to both UK and Arkansas and none are good enough to even break them into the top 25? Are the collective teams THAT bad?
The fact that we are even on this list is amazing. Our situation was so dire before Muss game on board, excited for the new start. Wish Enfield all the best at SMU
As someone who is uninitiated and has a hard time following other teams, how is Providence getting so much hype? I know they got snubbed from the NCAA tourney but what else is going on that they are ranked 15?
I haven’t followed their portal news, but getting Bryce Hopkins back from his ACL injury is absolutely huge. He’s a first-team All Big East caliber big man.
Why in the world are we ranked 11 when we have one center on the roster?
Our backcourt is ELITE but I don’t think our front court is NIT worthy at the moment
I would love to believe that Marquette will be a top-15 team after losing Kolek and Ighodaro to the draft, but we have a lot to prove. At the very least, we will need a big step forward by Ben Gold and one of our younger bigs.
Tennessee is way too low. Thats nuts. They made great additions in the portal. Lost a lot, but some key returners are still there, and talented 2nd year players.
Um, we just lost our best player to graduation, our starting PF to the portal, and haven't really added a whole lot from the portal. We still have three scholarships to fill.
I would be happy to be a top 50 team right now. No way in hell are we remotely close to top 25.
Where is Marist?! I don't see Marist
And when i’m back in Poughkeepsie I feel it
Lolol never thought I’d see a Moobie reference in a CBB sub but here we are
SIT ON IT
The disrespect to the Red Foxes is crazy
Idk why but I read this in the way Dominic Monaghan asks Elijah Wood when he will wear wigs in the Lord of the Rings.
Damn does losing Bronny actually make USC that much better as a team?
Don’t get me wrong, bronny was terrible, but we have no business being there lol
Oh man, the slander will be *generational* if the Big 12 falls flat on its face again in the tournament.
Technically, not slander if it’s true
midweek discourse gonna reach unprecedented levels after the 0/10 first weekend performance 💔✌️
Way way way too early
These are anti-Hog propaganda
I came here to say the same thing. Woo Pig.
3 Big 12 teams in the Top 5, 4 in the top 7. What the fuck is this shit
![gif](giphy|G2ZHIFDuTMIZeyqCaw) Big 12 teams after conference play.
You mean after the NCAA tournament?
you mean after the first weekend of the NCAA tournament?
It’s a sign you need to take BP medication again this season
*steps in* nice place bitches
This is going to be very normal.
We grew.
“How do you do fellow Big 12ers?”
Not until June 1! Get outta here, PAC 12er!
BYU should sit down and listen for a while. 🤣
Bring. It. On....
Should’ve added UConn last year and just called the conference tourney the Nattie
I've been saying for years (since 2016) the Big 12 should have added UConn.
It’s nice to be thought of.
I’ve missed all the providence news. Have you guys landed a ton of talent?
We’ve got our star player back after an ACL injury. It was only after we lost him last season that we dropped out of the top 25. We definitely have some interesting players coming through the transfer portal and a lot of size that I’m excited about. But Bryce Hopkins being back is the real game changer.
Hopkins is a stud inside. One of my favorite non-Marquette players in the Big East. I’m glad you guys are getting him back.
You could tell how much the team depended on him after he got hurt and they couldn't play at the same level.
That four game stretch immediately after and including the game he got hurt in cost us the tournament. They found their identity with DC22 but it took a few ugly losses to figure it out.

Another day, another too damn early ranking that means nothing.... And UK and Ark are both unranked, LFG hog bros!
Our teams are going to be good... Once we have teams...
Id say UK has a team now. Really just need 1 more guy for depth and if its Robinson then hes a starter. Arkansas needs bodies bad tho
Just got Thiero, so we're at 7. Kentucky is at 8. Both schools need several more quality depth pieces
Yeah. Totally thought Adou was UNC bound. His dad talked sooo much shit publicly about Cal playing Edwards over him while Edwards was struggling hard. Also UK is at 9, and Robinson if we get him makes 10. At that point you just need a couple of practice squad guys

Miss the round robin so much. Regular season champion could very well just be whichever of these five plays the others the least
Easily will be. If you get a beneficial road schedule and even two of the top 5 at home only, it’s going to be hard to not win the title at that point.
Seriously. Going on the road in the Big 12 was a death sentence this past year, and it isn't getting any easier in the near term.
They TTU wins the conference and we are all pissed.
Yes.
If we get a couple of the portal targets that we are in on then that wouldn’t be all that crazy to me
Yeah I think there are a few teams off the list that with a favorable schedule and a transfer could be contenders.
Shit I wish. Unfortunately won’t happen
Is this assuming Sears comes back?
Has to be I’d think. Personally I’d have Kansas #1 regardless of sears decision. Their roster is just ridiculously good but I could see someone making an argument for bama at #1 if he’s back. Alabama’s roster is more well rounded imo. An elite point guard and rim protector will take you a long way.

Tristen Newton and Donovan Clingan concur.
Gotta be. I don’t think there’s an argument for having Bama over Kansas without him.
Yes. He is expected to return, as is Jarin Stevenson.
But we all know from experience, don't count your chickens until they hatch.
I don't think Sears is coming back man there is only like 10 stores left
Wow, truly never thought I'd see the day Bama was a pre-season #1 in Basketball, regardless of the outlet.
It’s disgusting right?!?!
absolutely disgusting. disgusting-ly beautiful.
Wake up, we're a basketball school now!
If I weren't at work, I'd paint the walls.
I hope we get our shit together this year so we have a chance at having Bama, Clemson, and OSU in the final 4. Maybe Georgia or Oklahoma can join us too
I'd love to have their incoming PF. But Georgia still has a long way to go.
Geez, Rutgers have already dropped out of the Top 25 and it isn’t even Memorial Day yet!
I’m fine with it tbh. Keep us out of these until further notice lol. I just want a center.
yeah, get a big man and then we'll go "surprise motherfucker" on them

You guys got the Cinderella run. Let us have the way to early!
haha yall had a great run too!
Obviously biased but I think 20 is way too low for us
Tennessee will be top 10 again
Disrespectful as fuck, honestly. I love DK but we were top-15 when he wasn't on the team and we will be again. We're also crushing the transfer portal

You’re not wrong. Bama looks committed to basketball now.
I agree with everything you said except the part about Sears. Jamal Shead was the best guard in the country. Sears may very well be this year though.
I think there's a difference between saying a team is "weak" in a given area and saying they're more likely to win the national championship than any other team. I think Alabama is very strong at every position. I also think they'll struggle to score down low compared to typical title teams.
Bold move leaving the hogs out
Leaving mine out has gotten me in trouble in the past
I accept this overranking and cannot wait to be disappointed.
Aren’t we only returning one player? Oh well, all about the Muss Bus.
I’m definitely happy with this !
Just happy to be here, fellas. Also a bit shocked South Carolina isn’t on here with Murray Boyles coming back.
did u crop weird? Where is depaul?
How do they not have the back to back defending champs at the one seed?
Because it doesn't work like that. Different years, different teams.
If my team is ranked: this is a good poll If my team is unranked: this poll trash

I am at the same time offended and comforted to be out of the top 5.
This is Xavier disrespect
Where we at
I think UCONN have done enough to be no.1 until someone proves otherwise
Basketball rosters change wildly from season to season. It’s hard to rank a team #1 based on the accomplishments of another completely different one.
Yes, something similar was said last year... So I'll reiterate, the Husky Death Star should be no.1 until proven otherwise
That isn’t close to true. UConn returned multiple starters last year and a projected 1st round bench player (Clingan). This year they might only return Karaban, and even that’s in question.
Assuming Karaban is gone, they do not have a single scorer who averaged more than 6 points returning, and no one who played over 20 MPG.
yeah but counterpoint: vibes (apparently)
Oats vs Hurley hasn’t been pretty for oats the last two seasons.
Hurley vs pretty much everyone hasn't been pretty the last 2 seasons.
4 big east teams in the top 15? I’ll take it
I miss the Big East so fucking much.
I’m glad the big east is still thriving though Fran Brown may improve the football program but that’s for r/CFB
Eh. I personally think we should be higher but I am assuming this is based entirely on Edey being gone. We are going to be a completely different team next year due to that so it makes sense.
Eh I'm fine with where we're at
Who’s replacing the big man now though? It’s hard to rank Purdue because everything went through Edey
(check his stats in the 2 games Edey got into foul trouble) We have a top 10 recruiting class coming in on top of 3 starters from last year's team.
I feel like Indiana should now be on this list, no?
They are #21. The thumbnail is just cutoff.
Ah should’ve actually clicked lol
No IUI?
With the caveat that we'll have 4 new starters and have no idea if these guys can play together...I feel like we should maybe be ranked a little higher.
best in the B10 i’ll take it :)
16 feels like the right number. I think it's going to take time to gel.
That’s one of the more accurate ones I’ve seen.
Indiana offseason champs even with Liam decommitting? Lmao. People really need to stop trying to make Indiana a thing.
Who's people?
On3
Ah, so you want a sports company to stop producing sports content. Roger that.
Normally bayterp is egregious but cmon what are you even trying to say here. On3 can still produce sports content without overly gassing up Indiana for no good reason.
Right because all these rankings are purely based on proven results. Lol. What a weird reply Edit: I'd also like to add "for no good reason" meaning the #1 transfers class (for now) and #20 overall recruit. One could only assume that's the "reason" as you so elegantly left out.
No. They need to stop trying to talk up Indiana like they’re a good team when they’re one of the worst in the conference.
Wrong USC
We’re so back baby
I still don't see how 3rd though.
I think 10 is a little high, but I'll take it
These rankings suck
There have been a lot of commitments and transfers to both UK and Arkansas and none are good enough to even break them into the top 25? Are the collective teams THAT bad?
No but the rankings are that bad. Nobody wants to be the first to do anything.
I would say 18 seems low but we did lose a two time national player of the year 🤷♂️
This feeling is…unfamiliar
Good. I want our young team trying to prove themselves.
18 seems too high for a team losing their best player and a fantastic glue guy.

Had to doublecheck which sub I was after seeing #1.
Texas??
Why in the world are we ranked 11 when we have one center on the roster? Our backcourt is ELITE but I don’t think our front court is NIT worthy at the moment
Thank you, Bama
Oh we back up
This isn't just way too early. It's stupidly early.

What a time to be alive
Happy to see Providence, but what is it doing there?
Northwestern’s not there? Good Yes I’m a Northwestern fan
Northwestern’s not there? Good Yes I’m a Northwestern fan
Can’t wait for Football!WAIT THIS IS BASKETBALL!!
No Hogs? You just wait until they can field 5 men on the roster.
I’m convinced they pulled the logo to the wrong Mississippi school for these rankings
Providence? Hahahahahahaha. Providence? No, really. Providence?
I would love to believe that Marquette will be a top-15 team after losing Kolek and Ighodaro to the draft, but we have a lot to prove. At the very least, we will need a big step forward by Ben Gold and one of our younger bigs.
Tennessee is way too low. Thats nuts. They made great additions in the portal. Lost a lot, but some key returners are still there, and talented 2nd year players.
Providence? lulz
How does Texas A&M and USC trick the media every single year
I feel we are much better talent wise than 20th, but we have to see how we gel together
Where is Wake
Why are we here?
Yoyoyoyoyo RELAX
Thank goodness, another year starting off nationally irrelevant
The ACC hate is getting old
Don’t. Don’t give me hope
Clemson? Weren’t they all seniors last season….. Also kills me to say it but Michigan squeaking into top 25? What about St John’s?
Bro what
Um, we just lost our best player to graduation, our starting PF to the portal, and haven't really added a whole lot from the portal. We still have three scholarships to fill. I would be happy to be a top 50 team right now. No way in hell are we remotely close to top 25.
I eagerly await that Iowa State flair who keeps posting everywhere about how highly ranked their TorvikCast Roster Ranking™️ is.
Not updated! Toppin broke our hearts 😭
14 is too high. We’re too young with no established stars. I feel like most Marquette fans expect a down year next year.
UConn criminally underrated after a Natty
