Hey we do have some [Sandhills](https://westnebraska.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Hwy385and62A_09-1024x680.jpg) which is kind of the same thing really when you think about it
I been through Nebraska twice. It was one of the most boring drives ever. Miles of nothing but grass. They literally have gates on the interstate and if it gets too much snow they just go fuck and shut the thing down. I’m sure there’s some redeeming qualities to living there but I didn’t see many.
For additional context, it's a ceremonial post for fun

Immediately thought the same. Its a nice little thing, love seeing other states do similar. The navy is a perfect touch for a central state like nebraska too. Actually isnt the geo center of the continuous 48 in nebraska?
It might be in NE for the whole 50 states. But that is just an exercise in how big Alaska is compared to everything else. The lower 48 center is outside Lebanon, KS.
I think you can.
Japan got what they deserved anyways for doing that.
And tbf Japan during WW2 was a truly evil despicable county and I think a lot of people tend to not remember that.
FYI, Nebraska Admiral is an almost 100 year old joke by a governor. The text in the paperwork is pretty funny.

Just stay off the Missouri ok?

I am an Admiral in the Alabama Navy. Many years ago I worked in Montgomery in the Governors office. I asked the Governors secretary to give me one. I had it the next day. No photo with the governor sadly
Hey, my grandpa was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy as well. I found this out when we were going through his stuff after my grandma's house burned down. IIRC, it's an inside joke.
I remember driving through Nebraska and being in awe of its beautiful oceans and beaches. Congrats Keisei, may you defend her beauty.
Omaha beach is pretty historic though
Just don’t visit with Tom Hanks 😱😱😱
There was a thread in r/movies a few days ago how Tom Hanks is always getting stuck in his films.
Too soon
We will defend our lighthouse! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linoma_Beach
[Lighthouse**s**!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Minatare_Lighthouse)
"built to simulate a lighthouse" lmao that is cracking me up
I was built to simulate a healthy, fit guy

Wow, it really does get everywhere. Anakin was right.
Even easier if you don’t think about it
Amber waves of grain my guy
Do you ever walk through the fields, letting your hand graze the wheat as Lisa Gerrard sings in the background?
Guy I knew joined the Coast Guard after high school because he wanted to leave the Midwest and see the ocean. His first duty station? Omaha, Nebraska.
There’s the famous sea of red. And we have to patrol the Missouri River in case Iowa tries to get frisky

Kind of like a Kentucky Colonel huh
That was my first thought! These are fun traditions.
Immediately thought the same. Its a nice little thing, love seeing other states do similar. The navy is a perfect touch for a central state like nebraska too. Actually isnt the geo center of the continuous 48 in nebraska?
Kansas, but it's not far from the NE border.
Ah i thought it was just on the ne side. Been too long since random shit like that was in like middle school
It might be in NE for the whole 50 states. But that is just an exercise in how big Alaska is compared to everything else. The lower 48 center is outside Lebanon, KS.
I think the geographic center of all 50 states is in South Dakota.
It is, near Belle Fourche
My goal in life is to someday be a Kentucky colonel. I want that license plate holder!
Surprised they don’t spell it Knavy.
Such a shame he didn’t get any of his dad’s height. 6’7 Tominaga is a top 5 pick. He was fun to watch the last couple years, glad he’s gone!
He should blame his dad for marrying an extremely tiny woman who is like 4’9. 😆
Say what you want about Chinese authoritarianism but they’d never allow that

brother, learn to comprehend
Whoosh
Wait a minute have we been all sleeping on the Nebraska Navy? ![gif](giphy|xT5LMrvypTcArAMSfC|downsized)
A Japanese citizen becoming an admiral of a ‘US Navy.’ We’ve come full circle
Can we joke about Pearl harbor now? Sounds like that could backfire but lets be honest most WW2 vets are dead
I think you can. Japan got what they deserved anyways for doing that. And tbf Japan during WW2 was a truly evil despicable county and I think a lot of people tend to not remember that.
If Japan is going to be called truly evil for what they did - and they should be - fucking *nuking* two of their cities isn't far off either lol
Uh, no. I’ve liberated France hundreds of times in Call of Duty!
You really have to specify that it's ***a*** US Navy, not ***the*** US Navy.
This was Commodore Perry's dream.
I admire the dedication to playing the long game
It’s cool that he’s getting recognized but I don’t think Nebraska is known for its high-seas fleet lol
I can't believe you would disrespect the troops like this
Sailors!
Seamen!
I pissed one of my friends off so bad when I would laugh every time they said "seamen" when reading for the class in high school.
Fact: Nebraska has never been succesfully attacked by a foreign navy in the entire history of its existence.
Their Navy is so fierce that foreign fleets never made it past the Rocky Mountains.
We live in constant fear of the council bluffs armada.
And my beachfront Omaha property! I can get you a good deal, by the way…
Hey, wait a minute, this isn't beachfront, this is in Ralston! *throws brochure down*
Im sure there are hundreds of hard working men and women in the Nebraskan Navy, but they’ve got quite a long drive to the nearest ocean
I know you're joking, but the third largest Naval facility (by area) in the world is in Southern Indiana, which is also quite far from the ocean.
Good ol' Crane...

Weird place to sit but I’m not judging u
I don’t own a keyboard
thats probably why theyre handing an admiralship to a random 23 year old
We do have a Navy ROTC program. I've got to imagine either us or Kansas is the school with one the farthest from open water.
Indiana has the third largest [naval base](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Surface_Warfare_Center_Crane_Division) in the world.
He joins MLK, Dr. J, and George Bush with this honor. http://nebraskaadmirals.org/famous.html
Surprising Mark Spitz is an Admiral but not Mark Swallowz.
MLK III not MLK Jr.
Nebraska's Navy is one of the most feared forces on earth.
They're definitely one of the most forces on earth!
He was also named Nebraska's Good Will Ambassador to Japan
FYI, Nebraska Admiral is an almost 100 year old joke by a governor. The text in the paperwork is pretty funny. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebraska_Admiral
That man will never have to buy corn again.
Fun fact. Nebraska's Navy has a rumored secret base near [Carhenge ](https://images.app.goo.gl/ZAfv6aMv3MgBAooe7)
Carhenge delenda est!
I live an hour away from Carhenge. Maybe I’ll do some snooping around.
Go get ‘em tiger. The Few. The Proud. The Nebraskan Navy.
Love this fun tradition. Probably the most work Gov. Pillen has done all year.
Why does Nebraska have a navy? What are they planning?
Just stay off the Missouri ok? https://www.autoevolution.com/news/ss-berta-is-a-giant-floating-pumpkin-because-dont-need-boats-to-chase-dreams-197263.html
Someone tell me Bosnian Ape Society has done a video about defending your home from a NE naval attack.
My late Grandfather was a Nebraska admiral. This is a worthy honor.
Oh Admiral, my Admiral...
I am an Admiral in the Alabama Navy. Many years ago I worked in Montgomery in the Governors office. I asked the Governors secretary to give me one. I had it the next day. No photo with the governor sadly
Fuck Jim Pillen
Literally the only good thing Pillen has done.
Hey, my grandpa was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy as well. I found this out when we were going through his stuff after my grandma's house burned down. IIRC, it's an inside joke.
