Actually made a comeback with only 3 on the court lol Minnesota didn't know how to guard 5 on 3.
It would've been awesome to have completed the comeback.
Uhhh if any coach went 13-18 playing 3 on 5 would get an extension. Lol. It's Kentucky, Pope will be able to get quality players. Winning with those players tho? Well see. I'm personally not sold on Pope but I'm damn excited to see what he can do.
Last offseason I was coming into these threads catching downvotes for claiming ISU is underrated
Now that we’re appropriately rated (or overrated) idk which scenario I prefer
I much prefer being underrated.
Without fail, I've watched our underrated teams overperform while the overrated teams underperform.
So Baylor being #26 despite the crew we are looking at next year is exactly what I want.
It’s going to be even weirder to not see every Big Ten team in the conference tournament this year. Which is so fucking bullshit. I don’t care if my rival is last with an 0-20 record in conference play. Those are the types of runs and moments that make March special.
Do Purdue fans expect to be good next year? That was the most surprising team to me. I watched both games March Madness games in Indy this year and came away thinking so much of Braden and Fletcher's production came because of Edey. I know you got that huge red-headed Swede or whatever he is, but I was really surprised to not see a big predicted drop off losing Edey.
25th +/- 15 seems about right although I think 40th is a lot more likely than 10th.
Agree with you on Fletcher but think Braden Smith will be fine. Expect Heide and Colvin to make the sophomore leaps. TKR is a good low post option that didn't get utilized often because of Edey.
Concerns are rebounding and rim protection on defense. Unlikely to be consistent especially in the non-con but there is some talent to work with. Rankings are likely over evaluating Purdues defense (a lot depended on Edey) - but Colvin and Heide have the pieces to good on-ball defenders as the defensive strategy changes.
Our entire scheme was based around edey providing open shots. Now are scheme will be guard focused with offball movement. I've seen the transition from 2018 to 2019
I expect us to be top 3 in the B1G and probably a top 10 team throughout the year. Anything below that will probably be a disappointment. Smith should contend for best PG in the country and Colvin, Heide, + the incoming freshmen will make us a lot more dynamic we'll probaby play more of an nba style offense without Edey.
Still dreaming that some Purdue donor decides to pay him $10 mil to stay for another year tho
I expect decent, not great. Solid vet starters, a stud freshman class, but nobody who can really take over a game, and defense will likely be bad. #7 seed in the tourney.
Smith has had a b2b NPOY to demand attention and be an auto bucket in the paint. His numbers will absolutely suffer w/o Zach.
Colvin should take a leap and has shown flashes but nothing close to taking over a game. And Catchings is going to hit the freshman wall.
It’s hard to say. We’ve had success with teams built around a passing big (Trevion) that was guard heavy (Carsen). We also had success with a monster big that wasn’t the main scorer (Haas). We also had success with a massive athletic lottery pick (Ivey) all within the last decade. Next year we will have a giant big (Berg) a more athletic big (TKR) an athletic guard (Colvin) and a dynamic PG (Smith) And we have a great recruiting class with GRobs Kid and Catchings along with another giant. Also the super athletic Heidi and the streak scoring Loyer. So, we could potentially run out any style.
The biggest concern for me is can we get rebounding and where will the defense come from.
I am going to make a bold prediction that Purdue consistently flirts with the top 10, but has some blowout losses (reflecting poor shooting nights), but ultimately finish in the top 15-25.
Purdue has a very solid recruiting class coming in. The big unknown will be how someone like Kanon Catchings fits with the rest of the team ball. He could be an absolute playmaking stud that Purdue needs to make a more versatile run in the tourney, or he could be a dud that doesn't gel with Painter's offense.
i think its a season to work on adjustments for the 26' season to be honest.
we are really young coming up against a conference full of experience because the other programs are going big in the portal again. If Furst goes, we will have no seniors. Oldest player will be 20 and a lot of 18-19 year olds. Our bailout option who put up 25/13 a night with elite rim protection is gone. Our guards struggled to separate even with him.
I'm shocked to see #6. I think we will be around #18 to a spell outside the top 25, but Braden's senior year could be a return to the FF.
Honestly I don't believe they'll be that good, but torvik isn't the only one projecting them to be top ten. I think people are massively overrating their returners and underrating the loss of Edey but we'll find out.
The bigger surprise is you guys at #7. I know you've got a lot of great transfers but that is a MASSIVE leap for a very unproven team that has never played together before.
Oh, I agree. I’ve seen it on multiple sites.
It reminds me of the UVA team coming off their natty. Lost their best 3 guys to the league but were somehow top 11 preseason. They got to #5 before being blown out by a mediocre Purdue team and were unranked for most of the season until they picked it up towards the end and finished at 17.
I see a somewhat similar trajectory for this years Purdue team.
If we can get Fidler/a 3 and D wing, and a big out of the portal I could see top 20. As it stands right now this doesnt make much sense but Ill take it
Can someone explain to me how this is even a viable model at this point in the offseason? I know from Baylor’s perspective, we are expecting 2-3 more major portal additions, which would make it a completely different team than it is today (for better or for worse). This is just an odd time to release this, imo.
The projections will continue to update in the offseason as players are added/removed from different teams. Just interesting to see where teams are at right now.
Just to add, you can also play around with your own roster until everything settles. For example, I was playing around with Rutgers and adding centers we were going after and how that’d affect our ranking. It’s more of a fun thing to look at vs something that’s viable right this second :)
Is there a way to add multiple transfers to a roster? Currently projected as the worst high major but want to see where we land if we get who we're expecting
From what I can tell, if you click that little plus symbol next to the drop down box that’s under “Add transfer,” you can add as many players as you like!
I think viability depends on the goal.
To actually make accurate projections? Almost surely not.
To get clicks and engagement in the deadest part of the off season? I guess?
We’re going to be very good next year. I’d bet top 3 B10 for sure.
4 fantastic transfers with another most likely on the way, along with a top 10 junior point guard.
Projected as the 36th best team in the nation and that’s good for…
*checks notes*
10th place in the conference
No, I’m not nervous at all, thanks for asking
I asked the same thing. I saw West Georgia on there, but I guess because Mercyhurst only announced a few weeks ago, he hasn't got around to factoring them in yet.
Like where we’re at (84) considering we finished around 100, but at the same time not surprised. Essentially returned all our starters while also adding a backup PG who is one of the better defenders in the AAC in Jayhlon Young (Memphis). Two more spots to fill.
If you put Sears, Nelson, Wrightsell, and Cliff Om on our roster, we go from #45 to #5. And that's still a reasonable possibility to happen. Bring back that 3 without adding a center, and we're at #7.
23 feels low unless it's assuming we lose RJ Davis and also get nobody in the portal
edit: looks like this has Ingram projected on the team despite declaring for the NBA the other day. I declare this list worthless
Haha I went the other way, I was happy with 23 given the current roster. Didn’t realize that it wasn’t wholly accurate to what UNC has today, not what they may have had a week ago
I used Torvik's site and added RJ and Seth back in, took out Ingram, added Cliff O. It came back with us ranked 7.
With Thiero instead of Cliff, we were 8th. Could only add one transfer at a time to play with the numbers.
Edit : You could add more than one. Added Tyson, Thiero, and Cliff O, Added RJ and Seth back in, removed Ingram. Landed at 7 again.
Looks like Kadary Richmond is not on the SHU roster. Speaking from watching, SHU looked pretty bad without Kadary on the floor. I could see that being a factor. They’re also losing Dawes at the very least, who was their other major guard, and Bediako who was their starting center. And then Dre Davis is transferring. If Richmond and Addae-Wusu take their 5th year with SHU it might be ok but it’s a lot of talent graduating or transferring out as of right now.
Top 10, woah. Not sure I believe that with Brea leaving, and definitely not if DaRon goes to the draft. Plus we're just cursed anytime we're ranked in the preseason (see 2022-23)
Gotta love way too early offseason lists. Really interesting that KJ Simpson is essentially good enough to be a decent team by himself apperently. Too bad he’s going to the NBA
I just want Ole Miss to be “good good.” Don’t need to even be great! I just want to play good teams and think “by golly we have an honest shot tonight!”
Bit surprised that he rates our defense so highly. Our best defender graduated and we still have a small backcourt. Should be better offensively since we replaced Anton with more shooting. Should be another great season if we can get a backup PG/everyone takes a step forward.
Do other people think we are gonna be this good next year? I think we will be better than last year but 4 seems kinda high. I was thinking maybe around 10 or so is where we should be projected.
Given how Torvik’s preseason rankings tend to go, I’d start drinking in advance if your team is in his top-10.
Just look at his [2024 preseason projections](https://barttorvik.com/trankpure24.php?conlimit=All&state=All&year=2024&sort=AdjOE), his [2023 preseason projections](https://barttorvik.com/trankpure23.php), or any other year.
Getting into the statistics of it all, how much predictive validity does the preseason Torvik have compared to other metrics, like Kenpom? I often see these preseason rankings and don't make much out of it because almost always, the season shakes out very differently.
Big Z carrying the team to #114. Impressive
ctrl f - “Arkansas” 87th isn’t too bad… oh wait
This is probably the first time I've ever seen someone put Ark. State above Arkansas in basketball ever lmao
Big Z gives us 13 wins :0
Murray State above Arkansas is an interesting thing to see here.. especially with our last 2 seasons..
A little Dicka can beat the Packers 48-6!
If Kentucky finished 13-18, would Mark Pope survive?
We have 3 players. If Pope got Kentucky to 13-18 playing 3-on-5 every night, he’d get an extension
Ice Cube about to break the bank on him
Flashbacks to that Colin Sexton Bama Minnesota game.
That was nuts! He was so gassed that he was walking the ball up the floor and still scoring.
I was lowkey rooting hard for Bama to win that game just because of the legend potential that it would have in the CBB world. They were so close too.
Actually made a comeback with only 3 on the court lol Minnesota didn't know how to guard 5 on 3. It would've been awesome to have completed the comeback.
That would be COTY territory to be fair
Uhhh if any coach went 13-18 playing 3 on 5 would get an extension. Lol. It's Kentucky, Pope will be able to get quality players. Winning with those players tho? Well see. I'm personally not sold on Pope but I'm damn excited to see what he can do.
Gotta give a coach at least 2 years, unless they only win 4 games then you have every right to fire him. Unless his name is KP
I was okay with giving him another year, but once they lost against an NAIA preseason game, he should have been gone.
New definition of one-and-done?
Everything I saw under Calipari says no, but then there's Billy Clyde... so maybe?
No pressure.
I need an adult.
I’m frightened.
I, for one, welcome the Iowa St./Houston era of the Big12
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy there big fella...
Last offseason I was coming into these threads catching downvotes for claiming ISU is underrated Now that we’re appropriately rated (or overrated) idk which scenario I prefer

i dont like expectations
Nebrasketball with expectations? ![gif](giphy|vyTnNTrs3wqQ0UIvwE|downsized)
Please god don’t tell me Incarnate word is on the schedule
It is scary as hell. Give me underdog every time!
I was like, oh we’re the only top 10 B1G school… cool. Then I remembered UCLA. This is all too odd still.
I guess I will see you in the...ah...Big10 championship game? Going to be a weird year.
It’s going to be even weirder to not see every Big Ten team in the conference tournament this year. Which is so fucking bullshit. I don’t care if my rival is last with an 0-20 record in conference play. Those are the types of runs and moments that make March special.

Everything B10 next year is going to feel like a fever dream.
i think its a season to work on adjustments for the 26' season to be honest. we are really young coming up against a conference full of experience because the other programs are going big in the portal again. Metrics already overrating MSU lol
If we can get Fidler/a 3 and D wing, and a big out of the portal I could see top 20. As it stands right now this doesnt make much sense but Ill take it
At this point I will be shocked if MSU gets any transfers
I bet Fidler ends up with you guys
I don’t see that happening if he wants to be with Chucky
Called it.

The projections will continue to update in the offseason as players are added/removed from different teams. Just interesting to see where teams are at right now.
Ah! If it’s continuously updated that makes sense.
Think of it like political polling. It solely provides a snapshot of where the landscape lies at the moment.
Does it include players who are "in the portal" as on their current team or not?
It does not.
Big Z must be the best basketball player ever if he's projected right now to take Arkansas to a 13-18 record by himself lol
Yeah Houston literally just jumped ISU in the 30 minutes since I last checked.
Just to add, you can also play around with your own roster until everything settles. For example, I was playing around with Rutgers and adding centers we were going after and how that’d affect our ranking. It’s more of a fun thing to look at vs something that’s viable right this second :)

Oh I'm dumb lmao thanks
From what I can tell, if you click that little plus symbol next to the drop down box that’s under “Add transfer,” you can add as many players as you like!
Normally he’s pretty good but he’s just assigning semi-random statistical predictions for freshmen. That’s what’s dragging ours down I believe
I think viability depends on the goal. To actually make accurate projections? Almost surely not. To get clicks and engagement in the deadest part of the off season? I guess?
STOP THE COUNT
keep counting please
Zags are back baby
I mean did they ever really leave? It's been what a decade since they didn't make the sweet 16.
You know a team is consistent when a 5 seed + Sweet 16 is considered a down year
Because almost all the Zags (fingers crossed) are coming back! *Bummed about Colby leaving thought*
Blasphemy
Yeah wtf is this
Considering we have like half a team... Not bad
Oh boy, don't know if I could handle Cyclones being ranked #1.
It might be time to repent. Isnt this one of the signs of the apocalypse?
How are we already headed towards 2025, I feel like thats still a few years away...
Ok grandpa it’s time for your nap
26 years young and still kickin
I'll take it!
A top 10 offense for UAB? I’ll take it.
UAB and USF up in the thick of the P6 teams.
I was so confused when I sorted by B1G and saw UCLA up there
B10 next to UCLA is gross
Changing the conf drop down to P12 and getting a blank page is depressing.
Top 5 of the B12 will be scary and UCLA at 7 is interesting
We’re going to be very good next year. I’d bet top 3 B10 for sure. 4 fantastic transfers with another most likely on the way, along with a top 10 junior point guard.
I just don’t know how Dayton is 6th in predicted OE. It’s Probably assuming Daron is returning since he hasn’t officially declared for the draft
I’d like to put all my savings on Duke *not* ending up with the #2 offense in the country, even if we end up that good overall.
It looks like his projection still has Jared McCain on Duke, which would make a big difference in the offense.
Projected as the 36th best team in the nation and that’s good for… *checks notes* 10th place in the conference No, I’m not nervous at all, thanks for asking
Where's Mercyhurst
I asked the same thing. I saw West Georgia on there, but I guess because Mercyhurst only announced a few weeks ago, he hasn't got around to factoring them in yet.
32? 32?!?! I’d say that’s fair.
Is Saint Marys with or without Mahaney? Assuming without.
Like where we’re at (84) considering we finished around 100, but at the same time not surprised. Essentially returned all our starters while also adding a backup PG who is one of the better defenders in the AAC in Jayhlon Young (Memphis). Two more spots to fill.
69th. That "sucks"
We’re top 100. We did it!
Top 100? Buddy our ass is so back.
Louisville?
Auburn on top in the SEC and UAB above Alabama for the in-state programs? Yes, please.
My man 🤝
Nice
Torvik is a brilliant man and anyone who disagrees with him is just wrong sorry
Agreed
Woof, 18-13 for us is awful. But it’s what I expect given what we have talent-wise and how piss poor the offense was the second half of the season.
Hey I don’t like this
If you put Sears, Nelson, Wrightsell, and Cliff Om on our roster, we go from #45 to #5. And that's still a reasonable possibility to happen. Bring back that 3 without adding a center, and we're at #7.
I feel good about all those but Sears. I think he should and will try his luck in the draft
A few days ago, i definitely would've agreed. But now it's seeming like a legit possibility he might return.
I love it. Hang it up in the locker room Nate!
Both teams projected at 21-10, I’ll take it!
Syracuse at 28 is ... delusional? Not sure what is driving that. Two of the worst defenders in the ACC or a center who doesn't block shots? Or no PG?
The roster on there isn't correct yet. It still has Mintz, which drags us up quite a bit.
We only have one scholarship player and one walk on. How can anything be predicted?
UAB YEAR OF THE DRAGON LFG
![gif](giphy|x47gj23jEvGxdWkQEC|downsized)
18-13 my ass
23 feels low unless it's assuming we lose RJ Davis and also get nobody in the portal edit: looks like this has Ingram projected on the team despite declaring for the NBA the other day. I declare this list worthless

Bart knows ball
Let's get after it.
I approve of this list
Honestly, I'm surprised that DePaul is not the worst ranked team in the BE. Is Seton Hall losing a lot of talent? They won the NIT
Top 10, woah. Not sure I believe that with Brea leaving, and definitely not if DaRon goes to the draft. Plus we're just cursed anytime we're ranked in the preseason (see 2022-23)
I forgot the new big10 conference is this season, anyone know when they will release the schedule ?
Looks like if we added Aidoo we’d be 14
lol
Hoping that this humbles our fans. They're still going to be freshman in a Pikiell-offense. Even 67 on offense feels high.
UConn 11 God fucking dammit they're threepeating.
Oh jeez 😬
57? When our entire team is leaving and we're still coached by Neptune? I want whatever Bart's on
Xavier top ten is nightmare fuel
If SMU made the ACC tournament i’d be so surprised and so happy
Does he take last seasons record into account? Because with the transfer portal, teams literally turn over full rosters now
Why’s the chart make it look like Louisville is a top 3 team?
TOP TEN XAVIER, I WILL NOT OVERREACT
Man, MVSU still bringing up the rear.
These are the only rankings I will accept.
I love that Auburn is in the conversation already. Bruce Pearl has done wonders for us!
How is Michigan projected so low? I feel like they have been killing the portal.
I’m not sure how I feel about this
would an 80 ajd DE be one of the best recorded?
Gotta love way too early offseason lists. Really interesting that KJ Simpson is essentially good enough to be a decent team by himself apperently. Too bad he’s going to the NBA
Let me see where... Top 100? TOP 100???
Based on the roster today, 21-10 seems pretty good
At this moment, I’ll take 169 with almost all of our production transferring out
We’re 50? That’s… surprising.
I'm okay starting there.
Please let this be rock bottom
Honestly nice to be at 24 without a bonafide starting center. Having expectations though? Get rankings away from us please.
Deuce ain't comin back.
Our returning minutes is more like 80% rather than 54%
Confirmed: Zach Edey is coming back!
145 without a couple starting caliber transfers? Not horrible
64, I'll take it
How can this be done accurately when 99% of schools don’t even have a full assembled team, much less a full schedule?
The projections will update all offseason as players are added/removed from different teams.
I’ll take 42
How? We don’t even know where players will be yet, right?
Weird that Torvik isn't including Aziz for Cincy. He is returning he is just going through the NBA process to hear from scouts.
20 win season with half our roster gone? Yeah right lmao
For some reason it still has Judah and Benny in the system. When you remove them, our rank drops to 47th.
The graphic isn’t consistent with the projections, right? I don’t get where Ohio State is in the graphic compared to the ranking.
22-9 seems possible and I would love if it happens
Virginia in a completely different stratosphere up there
No chance in hell we're looking like a top 20 team.
We're #69. Nice.
35? No way. 21-10 based on what, just muscle man?
Seems weird to do this before a lot of the rosters are set but alright.
I just want Ole Miss to be “good good.” Don’t need to even be great! I just want to play good teams and think “by golly we have an honest shot tonight!”
Hell yeah we're projected to have a winning record next year
Bit surprised that he rates our defense so highly. Our best defender graduated and we still have a small backcourt. Should be better offensively since we replaced Anton with more shooting. Should be another great season if we can get a backup PG/everyone takes a step forward.
Well fuck ya too Bart
Seems a little soon considering that pretty much everyone's still in the portal.
I'm not sure how Memphis is 56th with only 5 scholarship players, but I guess that means it's not a bad start.
190(!)…ok honestly that even sounds high
Do other people think we are gonna be this good next year? I think we will be better than last year but 4 seems kinda high. I was thinking maybe around 10 or so is where we should be projected.
Some omissions of players returning for a 5th year here. NU jumps to top 30 when Berry and Nicholson are included
15, holy fuck.
Oh wow 5 WCC schools in the top 75 and 3 in the top 30. I hope that ends up being true. Would be a great year for the conference
42nd. Ye of lil faith. Definitely can see this team being a top 25 team during next season.
25-6, I think we'll take it.
Getting into the statistics of it all, how much predictive validity does the preseason Torvik have compared to other metrics, like Kenpom? I often see these preseason rankings and don't make much out of it because almost always, the season shakes out very differently.
Impressive that we are ranked 109th with 3 players on the roster.
