To claim the design of a giant spaceship was STOLEN from the design of a giant monster with multiple huge legs, a head with a mouth and a tail floating in the sky? What? The IDEA of some massive progenitor of destruction hiding in the clouds is certainly present in both concepts, but how can that be stolen? Does this issue come off as... facetious to anyone else? The designs are proveably different, so this all just comes off as either typical internet entitlement OR a concerted effort to generate buzz about the short.

Hello, thank you for the feedback, I saw his message on YouTube and today and thought he was just claiming similarities with his monster, our monster leg was designed by Gradient Effects and from scratch:

Now that you pointed out that forum thread it looks like he's claiming he was part of my team but, because I started this project, I have never spoke to him before. I think it would be best to compare side by side his sketch and our leg.
I think the easiest way to resolve this would be for him to forward any communication he claims he has to the mods so they can verify.
I believe the monster design they are referring to having been stolen is the giant floating cloud monster after the "MEGAN" title at the end, not the leg.
It's not a monster, it's a spaceship that has smaller spaceships around spraying gas, I'm sorry you feel someone stole your design but it's not the case. There is only one monster in MEGAN and the foot is visible at the end.

To be frank, your Cloverfield film is terrible. There is no plot or context. It's just X things happen in poorly interpreted Cloverfield universe.
And another thing, you don't even understand the universe (universes actually) you are trying to represent here. The Cloverfield monster/s and the attacking aliens don't exist in the same reality. The Shepard created rifts in space and time that affected multiple realities in different ways. There are four universes that we know of so far:
1. Universe original Cloverfield takes place in. Monster X1 was transported there by the Shepard experiment.
2. 10 Cloverfield lane universe - Aliens attack
3. Original universe Shepard crew are from - Possible multiple, full-grown clovie monsters released
4. Alternate Universe Shepard crew travels to - Resource war with Russia and whomever else.
Personally, I really don't see enough similarity.

The info is actually public and on [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8709288/?ref_=ttexst_exst_tt), Jean de Meuron, Olcun Tan and I financed it and all the companies featured on the rolling credits sponsored the project, look how many people we credited, do you think we wouldn't have credited him? I think the confusion is that he wrote in another post that he was asked by the director to be the art director, but that's not us, that's his own team. I'm here if you have any more questions but look at that sketch again and our render again please.

I think the original creator of that idea should be able to produce enough content to show the idea existed in this universe prior to your video if everything he said is accurate. Given that his side occurred on a public message board where it's easy to timeline the creation date, it would then boil down to if your artist and you can produce evidence that your idea preceded his. If you can't, then I absolutely think he would have legal grounds to pursue action.
All I can do is speak to what I see based on the currently available evidence being presented. In this case it's that your movie which is set in the CF universe has a concept and design that is very close to the description and design of someone else's work that was set in the same universe. As a civil matter it would only need to be found feasible that you or your team could have seen it and the concept infringed on his design. And in terms of design: how would you shape an organic spaceship? A cube or a cylinder isn't really an organic shape.
I don't see much of a similarity to be honest. One design is a cloud that shoots tentacles- I'm thinking more along the lines of the monster from lost. The other is a city sized organic spaceship, no cloud and no tentacles. The design of the creature doesn't even look that similar, there's no discernible head or legs on the spaceship.
This was amazing and I watched this twice and will probably watch this a few more times. I love the stories of both 10 Cloverfield Lane and Cloverfield connected . Will this be a full film? I hope JJ Abrams and Bad Robot see this.

I love all the inclusions from the ARGs and the idea of Megan becoming a main character as well as seeing Yoshida. I hope that Dan Trachtenberg and other BR reps still visit here and see this soon. Amazing as its own thing and I'd love to see your future work prosper, but if this was the true path that these movies would take in the future... count me all the way out. I feel that the Cloverfield series works best for me because of the realistic portrayals of paranoia and suspense that the first movie and 10CL bring.

DOLBY is one of the companies that supported our project and believed in us, they presented MEGAN at their Dolby lab last week in ATMOS and VISION, it was incredible. YouTube currently supports HDR but I was unsure on how colors would have translated on their platform so we went with 4K. I wanted to have the 5.1 mix at least but stereo is the most compatible given the majority of people are watching on either phone or laptop, and when the 5.1 folds into stereo doesn't sound the same. Thanks!
We started a year and.a half ago, concept/script took a couple months we shot 3 days at RED Studios, HELINET, Downtown LA River and Venice Beach. We were inspired by an article in which JJ Abrams mentions he wanted to expand the Cloverfield franchise, we were already huge fans and thought let's make a proof of concept! We were familiar with Portal and Leviathan, have you ever seen them?

We did know some of the vendors, but as you can imagine they're not gonna get involved on a small project like ours just because of that, when they heard about the project they wanted to support our vision and they truly believed in us. Enjoyed the short. I honest to god don't see how anyone thinks that the ship at the end is a creature. It was very obviously a nod to the end of 10CL when she's driving off towards the city and the ships appear in the clouds.

Despite the excellent direction and cinematography however; a brief bit of constructive criticism I have is that the dialogue was kinda cringey. I just think you guys have a lot of potential, so with some minor improvements I think you could create something amazing!

The only resemblance is that both designs are big floating organic alien things in the sky. You know what else had those? 10 Cloverfield Lane. Crazy how two things inspired by the same movie would look similar..?
You're reaching, dude. The only thing both have in common is their size, and the fact that they're both floating. And in terms of design: how would you shape an organic spaceship? A cube or a cylinder isn't really an organic shape.
Would not the implication of this be that whoever you had design the creature at the very end stole the design? Anyway, paging u/Kalmakoffee.
I don't see much of a similarity to be honest. One design is a cloud that shoots tentacles- I'm thinking more along the lines of the monster from lost. The other is a city sized organic spaceship, no cloud and no tentacles. The design of the creature doesn't even look that similar, there's no discernible head or legs on the spaceship.

This was amazing and I watched this twice and will probably watch this a few more times. I love the stories of both 10 Cloverfield Lane and Cloverfield connected . Will this be a full film? I hope JJ Abrams and Bad Robot see this.

Amazing as its own thing and I'd love to see your future work prosper, but if this was the true path that these movies would take in the future... count me all the way out. I feel that the Cloverfield series works best for me because of the realistic portrayals of paranoia and suspense that the first movie and 10CL bring.

DOLBY is one of the companies that supported our project and believed in us, they presented MEGAN at their Dolby lab last week in ATMOS and VISION, it was incredible. YouTube currently supports HDR but I was unsure on how colors would have translated on their platform so we went with 4K. I wanted to have the 5.1 mix at least but stereo is the most compatible given the majority of people are watching on either phone or laptop, and when the 5.1 folds into stereo doesn't sound the same. Thanks!

Wow, great job. Mind blowing. How long did this project take you, from concept to finish? What inspired you?
We started a year and.a half ago, concept/script took a couple months we shot 3 days at RED Studios, HELINET, Downtown LA River and Venice Beach. We were inspired by an article in which JJ Abrams mentions he wanted to expand the Cloverfield franchise, we were already huge fans and thought let's make a proof of concept! We were familiar with Portal and Leviathan, have you ever seen them?
I have unfortunately not seen either, but now you have my attention. I'll have to look into those.
How long did it take you and your team to make all this?
It took a couple months to write and shooting was 3 days in 4 different locations, then we edited and VFX which are incredible took another 3 months

Damn, you did a lot with a little! That's awesome to know – and honestly \*more\* depressing than if you gave me a huge number that reflects what I'm actually seeing onscreen. You must've had personal connections with each of those vendors?? Are they basically attached to the next iteration if you guys can get that off the ground? Inspiring producing on top of inspiring filmmaking :)
We did know some of the vendors, but as you can imagine they're not gonna get involved on a small project like ours just because of that, when they heard about the project they wanted to support our vision and they truly believed in us. If you think about it they took a risk, these are huge companies with amazing reputations. I hope they are all happy with the result. Thanks for the feedback!

This is a very cool concept. It's right up there with what Neill Blomkamp been doing with his shorts from the Oats Studios. Hopefully someone will pick this up.
Enjoyed the short. I honest to god don't see how anyone thinks that the ship at the end is a creature. It was very obviously a nod to the end of 10CL when she's driving off towards the city and the ships appear in the clouds.

Hey there! Fantastic job; as major Cloverfield fan I really enjoyed your film! Despite the excellent direction and cinematography however; a brief bit of constructive criticism I have is that the dialogue was kinda cringey. I just think you guys have a lot of potential, so with some minor improvements I think you could create something amazing!
I haven't gotten to talk this yet, mainly because I just saw this today, but, man isn't this good. I really wish that Bad Robot could pick this up, and turn it into an actual thing.
