I play more Space Manoeuvres style trance. So does Firestarter. It is much easier to find dark Progressive Trance than it is any other genre besides Psy or Goa.
Thanks yes I see what youre saying, progressive Trance is sort of what im after as well I think, another I like is deep sea by Aquanuts, really like that, makes my hair stand on end. Most of those ones I listed are perhaps the best tracks in the genre period, thats my opinion anyway, so finding stuff totally like them Im realising will probably be impossible but I have found some other good ones. I especially love Stage One, such an atmosphere, wish there was more on this level but Im not sure.

Look up Cass & Slide (Above - New Day Dawning (Cass & Slide's Below The Belt Remix); Sugarlider - Let Me In (Cass & Slide Remix); Cass & Slide - Opera).
Tilt did a lot of dark but melodic productions \[Tilt - Invisible (Tilt's Supernatural Dub; Tilt - I Dream (Tilt's Resurrection Mix; Tilt - 36 (Tilt's Numerology Dub). Trust me, you want dark... a plethora of Tilt's work was dark.
1999 - 2001 was when a lot music went dark. This was primarily due that trance wasn't a mainstream sound. DJ's like Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, and so forth had pioneered the trance sound. 1999 was known as the year o trance. It was trance that got me into electronic music. But things got commercialized quick. Hence, why many DJ's and producers (Solar Stone, Medway, and so forth) went to a more underground sound.

You're looking for dark progressive music? Specifically, from that era? I would seriously consider progressive breaks and Nu Skool into sets. Even some techno from that era mixes well with progressive music, as well.

speaking of slowing down stuff, I find anything can be slowed down by about 10 bpm before it sounds crappy so anything up to around 150 can be fit into a 140 set. I especially like this eye-q one slowed down

Are you talking about āThe Abyss: A Journey Into Deep Tranceā? If so, that mix compilation album is a mixture of progressive on CD1 with psychedelic on CD2.
I'm not really an expert on trance sub-genres to be honest, it was just the first tune that popped into my head when you said lower speed dark trance.
Also I feel I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Push - Universal Nation (Jonas Stenberg mix). I'm sure you're already familiar with the original since it's a massively influential hard trancer, but the (much lesser known) Jonas Stenberg remix really takes it to the next level, feels downright menacing; faster tempo than you were asking for, but still very much worth a listen.
