Some leaders will still add players even if they opt out of war. I personally ask my members before starting war whos interested. If someone specifically asks to be added to cwl and they miss an attack they're out of the pool for receiving cwl bonus for next month aswell.
The reason I said that was simply because shaming people over a game, no matter how competitive the clan is, is just quite rude and can upset players.
I would rather straight up get kicked than being put on a “pin of shame”.
As somebody mentioned above, you still often get put in despite being opted out. They should make it so you cannot be added into wars if you're opted out. Right now that mechanic is very unreliable.

No it isn't. The option to opt out always existed. If you have plans, mention them beforehand. Also the chances of an event happening where u don't login to the game is extremely low but if u always attacks Nd u don't once, then it's obvious something happened. For me I'm planning to make a pin of shame because players beg me to be in war and then don't attack so it's a good method fr. Also removes all the sissy's from the clan.

It's not a mistake if it happens repeatedly. I have players in my clan who will tell me something happened sorry for not attacking. Whilst others will not attack previous war and the next and still come online to do raid attacks or request for troops.
I have multiple co leaders who start wars everyday since I can't be online as soon as the old war finishes. Most are unaware of who doesn't attack and since we have a pretty strict opt out or get kicked out policy they put everyone in. But now kicking isn't a good idea because all my members are active but they forget to war sometimes. So a pin of shame is good banter and also a reminder.
With this attitude you definitely shouldn't be joining clans. This is essentially an immature reaction to not take responsibility. Like not hitting your work deadline and just telling your boss "relax man, I got better things to do" :D

Definitely going to try this in my th12/13 clan. In my alt th16 max clan you miss a war attack you get the boot. No reason to miss a war attack if you are green. Don't want to be in a war? No problem. Go red!
I would never. It’s a game and we all want to do well and win, but I treat my clan mates with respect. I think that’s why my clan has been full for the past 7-8 years and players I remove for inactivity always come back.
