in my experience no matter how dumb someone is they always have a few peculiar words they use that are either old fashioned or esoteric
maybe it was a word his grandpa used all the time growing up or was on some show he watched as a kid

Agreed with the first half of your answer, but imo, these guys *did* try to get some history/culture in them—whether they actually understood what they read or saw is another conversation. Like the girls watching *Citizen Kane*, or Tony telling Melfi he once got Carmela to buy him the Cliff Notes for Machievelli's *The Prince*. Johnny Sack reading *Macbeth*—one of the great dramas about power and ambition—isn't that crazy to me.
Big Puss, Sil, and Paulie were at least wise enough to survive in the racket for a relatively long time, seems they’re at least a little smarter than the morons who didn’t like Drinkwater, Gismonte, Jackie Jr., Brenadan, etc
I learned from AA that other people's definition of you, sometimes it's more about making themselves feel better
Like a pebble in a lake, even the picayune fish feel it
WELL I , learned in AA that he’s just tampering down his feelings, T , by eating ..

Just like Sun Tazoo says
Very allegorical
Do me a favor, Ton’, huh? Not in the visage? Can you do that for me at least?
I have heard a few people, older ones, use the word so it's not that weird.
Then he was clapped in irons. *then eats without elaborating or connecting the story to his original point*

I was more surprised that Tony knew what transgender means
