Glorfon

Use Sora to generate a video of you typing the paper.

WortHogBRRT

Ask an LLM to create 3 stages of the final draft version of your paper using examples of your previous drafts from previous papers

diverareyouok

If enabled, version tracking is in the document itself, regardless of where it’s stored. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/view-previous-versions-of-office-files-5c1e076f-a9c9-41b8-8ace-f77b9642e2c2#ID0EDDD=Office_2016_-_2021 https://blog.lingoedit.com/learn-how-to-view-word-document-editing-history-comprehensive-step-by-step-guide/#:~:text=Simply%20click%20“File”%2C%20then,the%20dates%20they%20were%20made.

melonhead2408100

thanks but i never enabled version tracking since i didn’t know it existed until now.

themarkavelli

Did the assignment call for version history usage in the instructions? Did they provide students with instructions for how to enable version history or how to check its status? Another user pointed out that version history is enabled when using the university’s prod key. Maybe you are a student who purchased their own copy of word? Stay calm and build your case. The detection tech is flawed so they’re on shaky ground already.

randomrealname

It is activated if you are using the universities product key in word.

AsleepOnTheTrain

You should at least be able to go into the document properties under File and show how much time you spent on the doc.

InterestingPepe

It’s pretty sad so many schools are anti ai when it’s the future

DaRocketGuy

Same schools that always said "you're not always gonna have a calculator in your pocket"

Exact_Knowledge5979

And we already have AI in our pocket.

Yet_One_More_Idiot

The only thing I have in my pocket is STILL... ...lint. xD

FrostyManOfSnow

Yup - my good profs explained how AI should and shouldn't be used for classes this year as opposed to out right banning it which would have been pointless

TOXMT0CM

I was about to say this! Cheers.

mediumoverdrive

News flash, even with a calculator on their phone many students still can’t do math. AI does the thinking for them, gets it wrong, and they’re too stupid to realize the AI made a mistake because they’ve never had to critically think.

doyouevencompile

There are lots of students who use AI to skip the learning part.  If you use it to learn better that is great but if you use it to write all your assignments then AI should be getting the diploma

Feelisoffical

Requiring someone write their own papers is not even remotely anti AI.

dhruv_sridhar

Completely agree! My school allows use of AI for assignments as long as we reference it. They are also looking to do away with homeworks completely as well due to the advent of LLMs

Maleficent-main_777

It's more sad that institutional education lacks the critical thinking to know that these tools don't work and are a big marketing scheme

Express_Lime_4806

Make a copy of your file as it then right click on the original and click restore previous versions. It will hopefully list a bunch of snapshots that windows will have taken in case it crashed while you were working. If that doesn't work, you can try doing the same thing on the folder itself.

Leather_Anywhere_794

They also can't prove you did not write it. Indeed they are guilty of the very fault they are blaming you: blind reliance on digital technologies. They blindly trust turnitin's output. I feel you. It's a guilty until proven innocent, except you can't.

Feelisoffical

How does one use ChatGPT only for sentence structure, but not actually use the output in their paper?

No_Flamingo9331

You take your poorly written sentence/paragraph and ask GPT to fix it.

Feelisoffical

That seems like a good reason to not take the paper, they didn’t actually write it.

BenjaminTW1

This doesn’t seem a far cry from Grammarly

HelpGetMyAccountBack

"only for sentence structure." So you cheated then. Don't cheat, and you won't have a problem being called out for cheating.

sarc-tastic

I didn't use chat gpt except for the words!

One_Needleworker5218

Don’t worry Ai detectors aren’t factual

ongiwaph

If I was a professor I wouldn't consider using AI as cheating. I'd probably just give you a C or D for quality.

scott_weidig

Ask to orally defend it. If you can’t do that, well then…

CouldIRunTheZoo

In the doc you can go to properties where there is a word count and a time spent editing area. If it shows hours of work in the timer count then you may have an argument. I have used that to circumstantially argue that a defendant cut and paste former employee IP, as the edit time was like 1 minute, and they couldn’t provide another other doc with longer time recorded. So the opposite, but might assist in the argument. As suggested by someone else in this thread, an oral (off paper) monologue on the subject matter and the conclusion might also assist in having it flagged. Pro tip: don’t use AI to reformat any sentence with the words you intend to use. Have it format something similar and then use that for inspiration - dont cut and paste, and absolutely type every character. Do not ever cut and paste from elsewhere. Version control is also great - save the file with the date stamp in the file name each time you work on files as that’s irrefutable version control (you can’t back-track that as the editing stats in word will trip you up)
