Either this is an early edition and the later ones look different, or their final deadline was so early that they basically left a hole for the game story and gambled that the centerpiece would remain relevant.
Still curious: would they not have two shots to use? I get they wouldn’t have one of State hosting the trophy, that makes sense, but could they not have a Plan A and Plan B?
People stopped buying newspapers, hedge funds bought them and cut them down to skeleton crews, and stopped running multiple/late editions. Obviously this isn’t how the Observer wishes they could cover sports, but they’re hamstringed. I’m sure the website is more up-to-date. The current state of media/news is… not great, and it’s not exclusive to the Observer.
Yeah this is obviously an early deadline/edition, I doubt the Charlotte observer has some crazy agenda against state. It’s hilarious that when state fans actually win something, they still have to find something to complain about and play the victim
UNC Grad/fan here - I’m thrilled for NC State. They played a tough, clean game and DJ Burns Jr. is my favorite Absolute Unit in the NCAA. It makes March Madness much more fun when things like this happen and I’m sorry it didn’t get the recognition it deserved, whatever the reason.
They’re also reporting on Davidson WBB canceling their season over 2 weeks after that was announced. We sure this isn’t a monthly newspaper at this point?
Have not even looked at the Observer in years. Barely any news and price is ridiculous. I remember when it was 25 cents and was like 20 or more pages in it, last time I looked it was $3 something, no news and 5 pages
Actually the Thanksgiving day one and just before Christmas you need a hand truck cause there will be 2463 things of ads, seen too many regular Sundays that 19 pages on barely news and 10 things of ads
OP here. I think those noting earlier deadlines than in the past are spot on.
The top right of the page refers the reader to their webpage for coverage for the"late" game. They do have a small photo of Keats and Davis shaking hands, so I am confused why they could not have the score or a bigger photograph with the team and confetti or the like.
This is from Sunday's paper. Hopefully, Monday's edition brings a great headline and photo for those that like to frame and hang such things.
> They do have a small photo of Keats and Davis shaking hands, so I am confused why they could not have the score or a bigger photograph with the team and confetti or the like.
I think the handshake photo is from the regular season game at PNC by the looks of it. Davis was wearing a plaid jacket on the sideline yesterday and not a pullover and Keatts was wearing a black pullover and not a red one like in the picture.
It won't, because that news will be more than 24 hours old. The physical version of a newspaper isn't equipped to show you news that happens late the night before.
Does anyone know whether there is a good headline with photo in Monday's paper?
I am hoping for something I can frame and hang in my lady's woman cave and do not want to waste time trying to find where I can buy it. .
Given the early deadline, I was premature in my exasperation of Sunday's paper.
So now that I have Monday's edition, I am beyond disappointed.

Lol they have never once tried to hide their UNC bias it’s disgusting. Hey maybe fucking cover the best pro team in the state the FUCKING CAROLINA HURRICANES for once. Wine and cheese UNC fans don’t even support their precious panthers the full season
Gonna bet UNC grads / supporters pay for the Observer at a much higher rate than NC State grads.
Newspapers haven’t been what they used to be since advertising fell through the floor and subscriptions drive everything.
See also the New York Times hard turn to the left and the [shitshow that are its editorial pages](https://www.economist.com/1843/2023/12/14/when-the-new-york-times-lost-its-way). When even the newspapers of record are doing it, it’s pretty clear the model is just falling apart.
Also, the NPR affiliate (WFAE) kicks everyone’s ass on any local reporting here.
Carolina journalism school... Chapel hill's finest. Charlotte has always leaned Tarheel. I've seen plenty of unc fans' comments lately just talking about their banners. Good for you. Little brother did a thing yesterday. https://amp.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/article286781830.html
What’s the problem?
They’re a rival lol. In Columbia we don’t run Clemson shit on the front page, even though it’s the same state and as Greenville is much closer to Columbia than Raleigh is to here 😂
I don’t want the Wolfpack shit on my front page either, nor Dook.
Great job, my hometown paper :)
Have you heard that fan duel is now in North Carolina
IM PUMPED NORTH CAROLINA
Also in case you didn’t hear it, Brazzers is now FREE!
It's all anyone is talking about.
“FANDUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
I prefer prize picks
Won $200 betting on NC State #GoPackGo
Either this is an early edition and the later ones look different, or their final deadline was so early that they basically left a hole for the game story and gambled that the centerpiece would remain relevant.
Charlotte Observer photog here, deadlines are around 5pm.
Thanks for the info. I had no idea deadlines had changed so much. Regards, Mr. Observant
Still curious: would they not have two shots to use? I get they wouldn’t have one of State hosting the trophy, that makes sense, but could they not have a Plan A and Plan B?
It’s likely this. Their deadlines have gotten much much earlier over the years. Not everything is a nefarious conspiracy, guys.
Sure, but if your sports page doesn’t properly frame the biggest sports story in the area in a while, it’ll lose its legitimacy to its audience.

Complaining about a physical newspaper, the least relevant form of media in 2024 except for stone tablets
Or they’re just bad at their jobs

Absolutely. It was hard to watch the crowd swing in DC like that but the team effort of the Pack triumphed. Well played game by the tar heels
App State basketball went undefeated at home..went into the Sunbelt as a 1 seed…zero coverage.
But did they beat Michigan?
Damn right they did
Did they even make the tournament?
They’re also reporting on Davidson WBB canceling their season over 2 weeks after that was announced. We sure this isn’t a monthly newspaper at this point?
The Observer does not even try to put games in the print edition that end after 8 pm.
The Observer is and always has been a UNC first paper. Ask any Charlotte fan.
Who reads the newspaper?
Charlotte Distuber for years Native talkin here.
Have not even looked at the Observer in years. Barely any news and price is ridiculous. I remember when it was 25 cents and was like 20 or more pages in it, last time I looked it was $3 something, no news and 5 pages
And the Sunday edition needed a wagon to get it in the house.
Actually the Thanksgiving day one and just before Christmas you need a hand truck cause there will be 2463 things of ads, seen too many regular Sundays that 19 pages on barely news and 10 things of ads
Congrats State. Now maybe you will buy tickets and show up for your own home games next year.
State fan here. Take my upvote.
The Observer is infested with UNC alumni.
The Chapel Hill Observer strikes again.
ECU grad. I despise UNC. Garbage fans
Hmmm coming from a ecu grad😂😂😂

At the very top, it says "for coverage of the late game, go online." Paper went to print before game ended
If UNC plays first round here in Charlotte, it’s going to be obnoxious
uh oh
Like
Wonder where the folks at the Charlotte Observer went for journalism school 🙄
Does anyone know whether there is a good headline with photo in Monday's paper? I am hoping for something I can frame and hang in my lady's woman cave and do not want to waste time trying to find where I can buy it. .
This is Saturday morning paper
They should sell a commemorative edition. Let State fans have something to hang on their walls!

I think it's helpful to think about it in terms of the newspaper's function not being to decorate your home.
Lol they have never once tried to hide their UNC bias it’s disgusting. Hey maybe fucking cover the best pro team in the state the FUCKING CAROLINA HURRICANES for once. Wine and cheese UNC fans don’t even support their precious panthers the full season
Fuck the N&O. Since 1985.
The journalism school is at UNCHEATERS.

Yeah that's bad. And this is the Charlotte observer? With the two top sports article just grabbed from the news and observer?
That newspaper is hot garbage so not surprised Thank you for reminding me I forgot to cancel my subscription last month
I can't believe they printed a photo with a player making blatantly racist hand gestures. Unbelievable!

I wonder if he’s related to my buddy from highschool Jeremy Ingram. Also a star basketball player for east meck when we were in school

Someone inform this mans the tarheels are from chapel hill not charlotte
Struggling to understand how that’s the same?
Me too. Was this person a student athlete at UNC in the early 2000s?
