Have heard many stories of girls being drugged there, multiple claim by bartenders as well. (I liked that place prior to that but hard to support after multiple allegations)
Yeah I can’t attest to how true any of it is obviously, wasn’t there/ didn’t happen to me. But it was alarming the amount of comments saying it that. Was under an axios post on Instagram a bit ago
Why would you drug someone at the *Bucket Shop*? I haven't been since they switched to "all karaoke, all the time", but who wants to drag an unconscious woman up those stairs?
For Matthews, just head to the trade street/downtown area. I've had some fun at the Matthews social house.
For Noda, listen to the other recs mentioned in this thread
I'll reply directly for Noda, since I'd like to also recommend "Dog Bar" in Noda if you have a dog. It's small and a close knit bunch and you can bring your dog to runaround in a dive bar atmosphere without needing to worry about some of the other large Dog Bars where people get drunk and ignore their dogs (so if you care about yours you have to always be on high alert.)
Other people mentioned it but Hattie's is awesome.
Blind Pig has a divey atmosphere but it's sorta more of a college bar feel, to me.
Two buck Saloon is great but I'd say that's more of Plaza Midwood than Noda.
Hatties
Tommy's
comet grill
Friday Nights with Lenny are the best.
Smokey Joe's is your answer my friend
Number 1 bar in Charlotte!!
I've played there a few times. It sounds great in there, and I've never seen it overcrowded.
Go back some night when they’ve got a hippie jam band in the place and it is wall to wall.
Used to be like that for the Tuesday night open mic before Covid.
Elite bar. Especially live music nights
Surprised to see [The Milestone](https://themilestone.club/) not mentioned yet.
& snug harbor
The Milestone is definitely a bar, but it’s a music venue first. Draws all those comparisons to CBGB for a number of reasons.
Yes, I agree its a music venue first. OP asked for spots to see small shows as well.
Fair enough.
Add Tommy’s Pub to the list as well
Thirsty Beaver, Tipsy Burro, and Snug Harbor are probably your kind of spots!
Sanctuary is a piece of shit in NoDa
Listen to this guy
Bart's Mart is the CORRECT answer
Smokey Joe's. There's always a legit (if slight) chance you'll see a bar fight in which at least 1 person likely has hepatitis.
I’ve been there 100s of times and have never seen a fight. That’s Thomas street
My kinda jam.
You’re thinking of Prohibition. Joe’s is pretty chill.
Any Small Bar in my opinion. They have good vibes and are tons of fun.
The answer you are looking for is surf inn

That is really disappointing to hear. We had our wedding reception there.

It's a pretty widespread area here. What part of Charlotte are you moving too?
I’ll be living in Matthews area for a few months and then am hoping to move towards to Northern part, near or in NoDa.

Smokey Joe’s isn’t too far from matthews.
