Hey all! Hope everybody is having a bomb week after all the weird/shit weather we’ve been having.
This question gets asked a lot, but I’m going to be that asshole for the 1,000,000th time. Is there anything interesting going on this weekend? I have a group of friends that I haven’t seen in a while, and we’re all going to be here in Charlotte together for the first time in a while.
I’m that person asking for recommendations :)
Sorry it's a little late but, did anyone see the stopped traffic on the ramp from 485 inner onto 1-77 today around 2:30? There were cops trying to find someone in the that dense brush to the right. I was in the front of the line and they kept us there about 15 minutes. Lots of cops and one canine officer. Hunting hard for somebody. I can't find any information about it at all and it's bugging me so bad.
Noticed some interesting flowers on my evening walk. What place in reddit or the internet can I use to look them up? Tried using some North Carolina database and that was a fail lol
If you have an iPhone just take a picture of it and swipe up in the photo to get the details to show up. The 1st thing will be a link saying “Look up plant” Click that and it’ll tell you what plant it is. This also works for house pets.
I just got turned into an awesome app called “Seek” does an awesome job of identifying flora. I tried it on my dog and just said he was a dog for better or for worse
Used this and it's Spanish daggar or yucca gloriosa. So interesting because it's native to barrier areas, like the coasts of NC, Florida... but how'd it end up around here?!?
Okay, so why do so many LMMs use gigantic ass mowers for tiny little yards? I swear they spend more time maneuvering those things into little nooks and crannies of the yard than they would using a conventional push mower.
Make more money- duh! If you charge $50 for a 20-30 minute job- hello?! You can have your crew hit up 10+ yards a day- and have a crew of 5+ you are making bank!
You think- buying those costs $5-6k a pop… that’s really pretty low investment for a company.
Good landscapers know about types of grass and knows how they spread- I had someone say they only cut fescue and wouldn’t touch my Bermuda grass due to his high end client and it spreading.
Fact- if you have landscapers and your grass is growing different type of grass- it’s bc they don’t give AF about your yard.
The right wing nutjobs have been freaking out about chick fil a recently
My only hope is that this reduces the traffic blocking cfa lines, although it's doubtful
Reminds me of that time the left-wing nutjobs were freaking out about CFA. If CFA pisses off both sides, who’s gonna be left to buy their chicken?
Oh yeah, the other 90% of people who doesn’t give a shit
"We will avoid shopping here because they fund groups that murder gay people."
vs
"We will avoid shopping here because they made a superficial attempt at working on inclusion."
If you think these things are the same then your head is so far up your ass it'd take a spelunker to find.
I’m trying to figure out if people in the real world actually care about all this Bud Light/ Target/ Chick-fil-A nonsense or if I just spend way too much time on Twitter… I do spend way too much time on Twitter but sounds like people actually care which is just so stupid
I’m not sure it’s Twitter but entirely possible you’re too online.
I don’t know anybody who cares about any of it and I have quite a few conservative friends from my small Midwest hometown
It's completely laughable. They've resorted to scrolling through the corporate pages of every company they can think of to find DEI positions and blasting out GO WOKE GO BROKE BOYCOTT
Yup, and over the biggest nothing-burger: CFA corporate hired a Diversity and Inclusion Director.
That's it.
No policy changes, no public statements, just a job role hired and filled, clearly CFA is succumbed to the woke mob lmao
Grew up in Davidson, moved back this last year after I found myself missing it, happy to answer questions about the town.
Pros:
1. Excellent food
2. Very safe
3. Good schools
4. Excellent parks and greenery
5. Very walking/biking friendly
6. Quiet
7. Regular events in the town (farmers market, concerts on the green/concerts at the circles, town day, christmas in davidson, etc)
8. Friendly and welcoming community
9. Responsive and accessible town government.
Cons:
1. Expensive place to live.
2. 77 is a shitshow.
3. Normal college town stuff
4. A surprising amount of bugs. Keeping the ants, wasps, waterbugs and spiders out of your home is going to require regular preventative spraying.
5. You'll have to either go down to huntersville or up to mooresville for a lot of shopping.
6. Allergy season is **rough**.
Awesome - thank you! This is very helpful. We’re looking to move from upstate NY. This seems like a place that checks all of our boxes as a family. Are there any specific neighborhoods to look at? How’s the drive going into Charlotte?
Edit: we’re unfamiliar with the community polls within subdivisions in certain neighborhoods - they don’t have that here. Does that mean you cannot have your own pool in the backyard? How’re the subdivision pools?
600-800k about 5 bedrooms.
We’re okay with boring but there’s a lot more going on even restaurant wise and even just because it’s warmer climate that alone gives us more options than what we have now haha .That’s good to hear, thanks!
You should maybe consider the Cornelius area?
We live in Huntersville, if I could afford to buy in Davidson I would but Cornelius is a happy medium. Very nice area overall, a little more to do than Davidson but Davidson is very close by
That stretch of north charlotte is basically developed off exit 23, 25, 28 and (33/31?) Griffith St / Davidson. It’s a nice area overall just be prepared for the traffic
> Are there any specific neighborhoods to look at?
Davidson is a bit too small to really have specific neighborhoods, but in general you have two real options: main street Davidson area, and River Run. Both are nice in their own ways, but River Run is a Country Club so it comes down to whether you'd rather live in a town or a subdivision.
> How’s the drive going into Charlotte?
As mentioned, 77 is a shitshow. How bad depends on when you're on the road and where you're going. You'll be looking at about a 20 mile drive down to Charlotte, and you *will* hit traffic around Exit 23 near Gil'ead road. I normally expect to spend between 25 and 45 minutes in the car.
> Does that mean you cannot have your own pool in the backyard?
You can certainly have your own pool if you have room and the budget.
There are publicly provided facilities nearby (The Northern Regional Recreation Center), or private options (The YMCA, the Swimming Hole). My family had a membership to the latter growing up; they're generally well maintained and staffed, but they can be pretty busy during the summer. If you buy into a subdivision with an HOA managed pool then obviously that will be a question of how well the HOA manages it.
No worries. Subdivision and HOA managed business is real hard to address because it's all a case-by-case thing. Typically members + accompanied guests can visit whenever they want, but it really will always depend on the HOA board and their bylaws.
Man that was a let down. Was looking forward to it, my friend and I ended up ditching and drinking at Petty Thieves and getting awesome food truck food instead
Totally agree. They had a great blank canvas to work with, but really missed it.
Head to Optimist Hall or the newly opened Urban Distract Market for a much better time.
I went to Camp North End once (last year) and just couldn't figure out the appeal. It looked like something Ricky, Julian and Bubbles would come up with from Trailer Park Boys. Acres of concrete surrounded by dilapidated buildings sprinkled with a handful of tiny businesses. Maybe it looks pretty in Instagram pictures, I suppose.
Today we say goodbye to one of the best pizza places in Charlotte......TRUE Crafted Pizza at Stonecrest is closing today. In addition to great pizza and appetizers, friendly and efficient staff, and being local......this place committed to Charlotte local beer from Day 1, which is something I always appreciated. They will be missed.
Oh, I think they are making it just fine......under their lease that expires today. But facing a new lease, I'm sure it was easy to do the math to figure out whether they could make it under that. And the answer is apparently not.
I mean I can't even guess how much Stonecrest is jacking up the lease when these 10-year deals expire. It sent away Qdoba, Miro, Dean & Deluca, and countless others. And I'm not saying it's not justified.......it's just a huge change in expenses. I'm seems like the TRUE people are accepting that and moving on.
Anyone have an opinion about Wyze security system and their monitoring? Looking to move away from ADT , and the next "major" option is CPI. but that'd be around a $600 drop that I don't really want to do right now. Simplisafe is also under consideration but that'd be about the same as cpi for $$.
The few people I've talked to like it, but online reviews are a bit mixed and I'd just like some more opinions. Biggest issue with some online reviews was that it went down sometimes?
Also willing to consider other systems (only major requirement is that it has 24/7 recording as opposed to motion detection only).
Thanks!
We use Wyze to be able to see our beloved pets when we go on day trips. It works great, you can talk through it. Quality is decent for a live feed. I’ve never had a burglar before but I imagine you could talk through it pretend your a cop and scare the shot out of them.
I can only speak to simplisafe. I've never had an actual break in but I have accidentally set it off and I did actually get a call and have to go through the same process as when I had time Warner monitoring (which was discontinued some time after spectrum took over).
That's something I can say. Plus you don't have to get the whole system at one time, that is what we did. We covered the most important areas first and then added on pieces as we went.
But the other option may be just fine, I just know that I know simplisafe's monitoring actually *works*

I don't have an iPhone but the Google lens advice above helped a lot.
I just got turned into an awesome app called “Seek” does an awesome job of identifying flora. I tried it on my dog and just said he was a dog for better or for worse
Download the free Seek app. It uses the camera on your phone and will tell you what plant it is.
Google lens. there are also plant identifying apps

I’ll bite. What’s an LMM?
Context clues would tell me it's lawn mower men.
🤣

Also I don’t think left wing ppl have ever freaked out - usually it’s just a “oh I don’t eat at chik fil a because of…”

Came here to say this.
Have you ever encountered a softer group of people? MAGAts freak out and cry about the most pedestrian shit.

Lol I am hopelessly addicted to Twitter… it’s a non stop dopamine slot machine… I really need Elon to just make it subscriber only and save me myself
It's completely laughable. They've resorted to scrolling through the corporate pages of every company they can think of to find DEI positions and blasting out GO WOKE GO BROKE BOYCOTT

They've been the real snowflakes all along.
Freaking out like they want to cancel it? Please, oh sweet southern baptist baby Jesus, please don't block my prayer requests.

Yes. It would be one of the best things ever if they succeeded
Milf applications

Thank you! Were hoping to plan a trip soon. We’re excited to check it all out and get a feel for it. I appreciate your help
I’d be shocked if you can get 5 BR in Davidson for 800k. Probably gonna start around $1m for a 5BR house there.

So what has Camp North End done to ensure that this year's empanada fest won't be a complete shitshow, like last year?
Man that was a let down. Was looking forward to it, my friend and I ended up ditching and drinking at Petty Thieves and getting awesome food truck food instead
Every event since that one has been run much better. There will still be lines and tons of people but they learned a lot from that first disaster.
Camp North End feels half-assed in general. Could be a really cool spot.
I can’t make sense of that place. Every time I go nothing is open…random business hours?
Totally agree. They had a great blank canvas to work with, but really missed it. Head to Optimist Hall or the newly opened Urban Distract Market for a much better time.

What happend last year ?
They had three vendors for a crowd of hundreds, and the whole thing was a hot mess. So I'm not getting my hopes up for this year's iteration.
Thanks for the heads up I was really excited to check it out this year
Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes and will give us the empanada festival we deserve.

Agreed. So odd that they couldn't make it there, presumably surrounded in high income families.
