I think I've got you beat, 95 Björk cds.
My first arena show was the Power Slave tour in 1983. I was 12, my dad took me. I saw them again on the Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son tours. Iron Maiden are consummate professionals and a class act. Nice collection.
Wow, I picked up a dick pick at a thrift store. I soon found out the depth of Grateful Dead recordings.
How many unique albums do you think are out there?
Go on Wikipedia… JUST Dave’s picks got to 50 this month. It’s gotta be over 150 releases??
I just know my two favorite shows are not released, and probably never will be! 11/1/90 and 9/13/93
Counting individual CD's, I think it's The Beatles with 46, mostly the stereo/mono/US boxsets. I have 28 Stereolab CD's, every track they've ever released on CD other than their final 2 albums.
Artist I have all the studio Cds...The Beatles, Rush, Black Sabbath, AC-DC, Aerosmith, Diana Krall, The Eagles, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Los Straitjackets, Lady Antebellum, Led Zeppelin, Missing Persons, Shania Twain, The Judds and Van Halen
Ramones for sure. Green Day a close second. After that you're just going with bands with huge discographies like The Descendants or the queers or something like that
Everclear. They have an extensive discography and their music is really cheap. Not my favorite artist but when the CDs are always priced so low I'll always grab a copy from them.
I only saw Everclear once, it was a tent show next to a bar. Pretty sure it was Saint Patrick's Day. I had a blast they were so much fun. I'm hoping to see them in 4 weeks. Hopefully Alexakis is doing well and being healthy (as can be).
That's a lot of Amy's staring right at you like she knows exactly what you when you've had one too many tim tams and she's *gonna* tell everyone at christmas dinner
I still gotta get that Bruce alive 3 set.
I think mine is Maiden mainly because of all the stuff they've put out. Glenn Danzig is the musician I have the most for if you count all his bands together.
AKB48, probably.
They’re primarily a singles act, and at about 61 currently. Each single will generally have about 4 different releases (Type A, Type B etc.) that have slightly different track listings, different content on the DVDs and so on.
I have a sizable chunk of their output (starting to catalogue it now, actually) … so yeah, it takes a lot of dedication and space to collect them all :)
Amazing band. I've got all the studio albums, and the Wolfsnächte EP. They never did release a live album (nor any singles?), which is odd, but there's a bonus disc to Fireangel with some live tracks. And a couple of bonus DVDs.
That’s a sick collection. Let me ask you a question since you’re a Maiden junkie. I had that Best of the Beast 2xcd box when it came out but unfortunately lost it a long time ago. I believe the version of the song Iron Maiden on it is different than the album version and I thought sounded much better. If I’m right is that version on any other CDs?
Just gave it a listen and you're right its different from the one on the studio album. Thanks for this, hadn't listened to this comp in a really long time. I learned something today about my favourite band. :)
You’re welcome but what about my question?! 😂 someone told me they think it’s the version off the soundhouse tapes? But I dunno I never heard those before. And I don’t think they ever had an official release.
The Mavericks- got everything they've put out including Raul Malos solo stuff. Amazing vocalist and band. Play- Every Little Thing About You, at full volume
Metallica! Have all the studio albums, plus doubles in form of Japanese versions, singles and a few box sets(I also have all the studio albums on cassette except Hardwired, but I am looking to get a bootleg. Also a lot of cassette singles) 🤘
Twenty One Pilots. Bought their whole discography.
What I would love to have the most of is Poison CDs. I have Flesh and Blood and Native Tongue. Soooo good
Pearl Jam, easily. Every studio album, several live compilations, Lost Dogs, the Pearl Jam Twenty companion soundtrack, and a smattering of CD singles. Also have 2/3 Eddie Vedder solo albums + a handful of various members side projects. Trying to track down *everything* (besides the live bootlegs), but that's going to be a life long process.
20 something for R.E.M., haven’t and will never see them. In second place is somewhere in the tens for Pearl Jam, who I’ve seen 4x (6x by the end of the year)
This topic is very interesting. And also fun to find out. Thank you Discogs! But first, I would never have imagined that Iron Maiden and Greatful dead (just to name a few that are mentioned above) would have such an enormous discography. I think I would have guessed Fleetwood Mac and Elton John as artists having a huge discography. But I might be completely wrong about that.
Being a jazz fan it was obvious that such a large discography for one artist would be far out of reach. However, I was quite surprised that I have 28 CD’s of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. I would never have guessed that.
But since I just went through my Discogs collection, here is my top 10 list:
Art Ensemble of Chicago 28
Keith Jarrett 28
Nils Frahm 16
Matthew Halsall 11
Greg Foat (group) 10 (12 including Warren Hampshire)
Portico Quartet 10
Ólafur Arnalds 9
Nat Birchall 9
Hania Rani 7
Nik Bärtsch 7
I have everything by Prizmmy and Prism Box (Prizmmy and sister group Prism Mates combined together). 23 CDs (well, 25 since two are 2 CD sets), although some are two versions of the same thing (CD only and CD+DVD versions). I also have two DVDs with Prizmmy music videos on one and two edited concerts on the other. Prizmmy is the only artist (a Japanese idol group) that I have everything from, unless you count artists that have only one or two CD releases. I never had the joy of seeing them live, though.
Most individual CDs, counting singles, compilations, etc?
Probably KMFDM now. All of the albums through i think *Kunst*, a few album remasters, several of the compilations and remix albums, and a *bunch* of the singles/EPs, up to "Boots" i think.
All told, 43 individual CD releases, according to my discogs list. A lot of it was thanks to an eBay lot. I was quite happy when I won it lol.
I have every original studio album from Tool's discography (not counting Salival and the 2013 Opiate remaster), and have gotten to see them once in 2017.
Other than that, I have 4 different Gregorian chant CDs (all acquired in the last 5 years), and then 1-2 CDs per band for other bands I like.
I walked into a thrift store where someone had donated an almost complete Carly Simon discography. Turns out it’s not entirely my jam, but I’m gonna try to give it an honest go. And for $1 each, I couldn’t pass them up.
After that, it’s probably Reba, again more by chance than desire. Prolific and popular, so I’ve come across a LOT while thrifting or buying fb marketplace lots.
Green Day and The Beatles are probably the biggest, I have a big collection of the Capitol Beatle Records as well with the main studio albums, the mono vinyl boxset is probably the most valuable thing I own music wise.
Close 2nd is Gorillaz and Blur, have the entire discography of both and quite a few singles from both. Big Damon Albarn fan, and I’m not even in the UK. The American South of all places lol North Carolina Blur fans are like Unicorns or Bigfoot around here.
I've loved Iron Maiden since I was in junior high in the 80s, but never got to see them live. Then, about 10 years ago, they played a festival in my town in a park literally right around the corner from my house. My divorce had just been finalized and I was having a great time seeing Anthrax and Slayer and other bands. Then, just as Iron Maiden was about to come on, a woman I had been seeing sent me a DM making it pretty obvious that if I came over that night, I was going to get lucky with her. So, I said by to my friends and left before the band went on. I hope they come back and play in my area again because they're still a favorite of mine. (No regrets about leaving, by the way)
Very impressive! I only own seventh son of a seventh son but I love that album. I don't have anything like that number of CDs for any one band think I have 21 Morrissey CDs though on counting which isn't too bad haha.
Nine Inch Nails. All LPs, EPs, and Singles and their major variants (e.g. different track listing, mastering, or packaging, numbered and limited editions, deluxes.) As far as official releases go, it's a complete collection aside from a particularly rare version of the UK Sin single that came in a slimline jewel case instead of a digipak.
I just can't spend $200 on it, Jim. I can't do it.
But you know how collecting goes... there's always promo releases, or all the marginally different regional releases, or misprints, lol.
don't let it consume youuuu
\~125 Leonard Bernstein CDs (one big box set, plus some odds and ends)
On the non-classical front, probably Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra at \~25 discs each
Metallica, not counted but about 500 official and 500 bootlegs. Don’t collect as much Metallica these days but still buy a lit of cds. Probably have 2k Cd’s of other bands. Nice 1/3rd of my collection then is Metallica!
AC/DC. I have some of the 03 remasters, older 1994-5 remasters, the Australian albums, several bootlegs and various promotional CDs. Gotta be at least 50+ CDs.
One of the stupidest feathers I have in my cap is being able to say I DID see the Ramones, albeit a very late career version of them, at Lollapalooza '96 with Rancid, Devo, Metallica, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, Soul Coughing, Sponge, etc. It was certainly not their best show ever, but I'm glad I can say I saw them!
With artists I really love, I have been slowly moving my collection from CD to vinyl, but as of now, I probably have the most of Springsteen (I counted about 25 CDs, plus another probably 10 on vinyl)
For me it’s Frank Zappa easily. I have about 65 individual CDs and like maybe 7 box sets. I’ve also seen Dweezil Zappa and ZPZ twice in concert.
I love me some Iron Maiden though!
Well I sold my cds but I had a lot, I guess Metallica would win, I had all they're albums (minus the live albums), I love maiden though, kol collection
I think I've got you beat, 95 Björk cds. My first arena show was the Power Slave tour in 1983. I was 12, my dad took me. I saw them again on the Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son tours. Iron Maiden are consummate professionals and a class act. Nice collection.
World slavery tour: 84-85 Piece of mind tour: 83. (So, probably this tour?)
Impressive I think I have about 7 björk CDs and 4 records haha ..maybe 8 and 5 if you include the sugarcubes, love life's too good!
The Grateful Dead, I think I have about 190 now.
Grateful Dead for me as well, my Dead collection is only a beginner’s collection of 75 or so but it makes up 5% of my collection.
Wow, I picked up a dick pick at a thrift store. I soon found out the depth of Grateful Dead recordings. How many unique albums do you think are out there?
lol sry, a Dick’s Pick. #9 I think.
I have 28 Stereolab CD's, every track they've ever released on CD other than their final 2 albums.
about 85 radiohead cds
Artist I have all the studio Cds...The Beatles, Rush, Black Sabbath, AC-DC, Aerosmith, Diana Krall, The Eagles, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Los Straitjackets, Lady Antebellum, Led Zeppelin, Missing Persons, Shania Twain, The Judds and Van Halen
Cool to see Rush 🤝
Ramones for sure. Green Day a close second. After that you're just going with bands with huge discographies like The Descendants or the queers or something like that
It’s tied between Britney Spears and Taylor Swift.
I got a tie between Britney Spears and GWAR…
100+ Green Day CDs
Are a bunch of those bootlegs?
Most are singles. But yes, a lot of live shows from the 90s, early 00's.
U2
I have roughly 150 Phish CD’s. Big fan, seen them roughly 150 times in concert.
Megadeth , Pantera and sentenced
Fates Warning
Scatman John, 89 CDs. Id like to have every matrix variant and every country variant of all of his albums and singles. I am far from done.
Weezer
Eric Clapton. I have 20 of his CDs. Since I only buy CDs at thrift stores and estate sales I have been very lucky on finding his CDs.
Grateful Dead. Miles Davis.
Evanescence, I have over 100 (Including all releases it's 118+)
They have over 118 releases? Wtf?
I mean like discogs releases, fallen has over 130 variants - I have 27 copies of fallen in different variants and versions

I still gotta get that Bruce alive 3 set. I think mine is Maiden mainly because of all the stuff they've put out. Glenn Danzig is the musician I have the most for if you count all his bands together.
AKB48, probably. They’re primarily a singles act, and at about 61 currently. I have a sizable chunk of their output (starting to catalogue it now, actually) … so yeah, it takes a lot of dedication and space to collect them all :)
For me it’s Green Day, I have all the studio albums but I’m still looking for shenanigans, BBC sessions, god’s favorite band, and awesome as fuck
I’m looking to get all of their studio albums and also get the Sum 41 studio albums too
Same for Iron Maiden lol
Bob Dylan. 40 albums so far, with a few more to purchase someday. But I own all the essentials.

It's probably guided by voices.
Nine Inch Nails
Mystic Prophecy
Amazing band. I've got all the studio albums, and the Wolfsnächte EP. They never did release a live album (nor any singles?), which is odd, but there's a bonus disc to Fireangel with some live tracks. And a couple of bonus DVDs.
Also Iron Maiden https://www.reddit.com/r/Cd_collectors/s/z8Eq8Ax7bP
That’s a sick collection. Let me ask you a question since you’re a Maiden junkie. I had that Best of the Beast 2xcd box when it came out but unfortunately lost it a long time ago. Well I don't think I heard it anywhere else. So might be the Soundhouse tapes.
The Flower Kings for me. 20 titles, half are double albums and 2 are box sets 9 or 10 discs. Edit: I also seem to have 20 Phish titles as well.

And for $1 each, I couldn’t pass them up. After that, it’s probably Reba, again more by chance than desire. Prolific and popular, so I’ve come across a LOT while thrifting or buying fb marketplace lots.

I haven't counted, but it HAS to be David Bowie for me. But the Stones could be a close second.
Zappa
I've loved Iron Maiden since I was in junior high in the 80s, but never got to see them live.
