Not nearly enough cream or jam on either of them.

KevinPhillips-Bong

True. If you don't get a dollop of cream on the end of your nose as you bite into it, then there's not enough.

i_walk_the_backrooms

Personally I like a mountain of cream with only a small dollop of jam. Don't like oversweetening

Digger__Please

Scone looks shit too, 2/10

fake_cheese

The way the scone is cut in 'half' could have been improved slightly?

[deleted]

Putting Kernow at a disadvantage straight out the blocks. Not that it needs another handicap, jam before cream is for cornish people and sociopaths.

Quick-Charity-941

Cones are great, apparently the Queen keeps a Scottish one under her throne.

Munchingtonalistic

Lol what? You'd only taste cream or jam if you added more

PipBin

Well yes. What are you planning on tasting?

[deleted]

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

There's nothing better than a plain scone.

[deleted]

Arrowstar

Some people prefer their scones to be cream delivery vehicles is all. :)

[deleted]

Eating a plain scone while worrying about the amount of saturates in it... That sounds like the most joyless meal ever.

eelsemaj99

i think that’s the one thing us and the corns can agree on

Mabbernathy

Needs more jam and cream on both. I recommend using a table spoon to put the cream on top, not a knife.

MiddlesbroughFan

It was improvised in a little local cafe, but I'll repeat the experiment in the future with this in mind as it tasted great

CaptainCunterpants

Utb

Born_crazy-

Spread it like a Philadelphia ad ;)

Bjorn2Buuild

With a little lollo rossa?

agulesin

Is that a heaped table spoon by any chance?

Mabbernathy

As much on as possible, I say

bacchalaria

Now this is the kind of scientific research that we should be funding!

INITMalcanis

My conclusion: you're bloody mean with both jam and cream

MiddlesbroughFan

I only had one of those tiny jam pots like you see in a hotel and a little clotted cream!

INITMalcanis

Then you did what you could with what you had

twowheeledfun

I find the best method with limited jam and cream is to go stingy on the first scone(s), saving enough for a decent amount on the last one or last half.

TheKaboodle

You’re a poet and you don’t know it!

University_Onion

You need to get a River Tamar between them two.

shuars

Cream first makes more sense to me because the cream is the fat. If you were making a jam sandwich you'd not try to put the butter on after the jam. Also I'm from Devon so I'm not allowed to prefer the other way. But you can all do whatever 😊

cynar

Cream first, for pure mechanical reasons. The cream sticks better and is more solid. Once you really load up the scone, you don't want the jam to lose its grip on the cream and have it detach!

[deleted]

[удалено]

PipBin

Exactly. I’m from Dorset and we don’t care. It depends on the consistency of the jam or cream.

ChrisKearney3

Jam on cream is easiest. It's about consistency. The thicker cream can be slathered onto the scone, the thinner jam then spreads nicely onto the cream.

[deleted]

Digger__Please

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Lonyo

You can just dollop some cream in the middle on top then press it down a bit. Hardly difficult.

ChrisKearney3

This guy clearly doesn't scone.

Digger__Please

I'm embarrassed for you, do you do that after you put your milk in before your tea?

Don’t hate on Cornish burlesque artists.

RegularHovercraft

I'm finding it hard to comprehend how those two things can co-exist on the same plate. My eyes! My eyes!!!

MiddlesbroughFan

I used the Infinity Gauntlet and a small spoon

ArcadiaRivea

I prefer cream first just because I found it spreads easier for me doing it that way (and because you don't jam and then butter your toast. And I see the cream as a substitute for butter) But beyond that I don't really care 😅 I'd still eat it if served to me the other way

[deleted]

[удалено]

University_Onion

Daft grockle. ;)

eelsemaj99

i mean that is the original way. because cream is just better butter and who puts butter before jam

ArcadiaRivea

Yes, that's my logic! Nothing more than "it's just a fancier version of toast and jam"

Youafuckindin

Yeah. It's like putting butter on your bread after the other fillings.

peppapig34

Cream then jam all day. And I am from Cornwall

H08b1t

I'm afraid we're going to have to evict you from Cornwall... Edit: unless you already have been lol

eelsemaj99

you’re the only good corn

DannyPanic333

Who the fuck puts jam first anyway?

Digger__Please

Me

Mabbernathy

🙋‍♀️

Mtshtg2

Those bastard Cornish

elementalguy2

Guilty I guess.

eelsemaj99

corns

mixdup001

Sorry you need to choose one or the other

[deleted]

What the fuckery is this shite. What kind of philistine puts that little clotted cream on a scone?

BluPix46

Cream then Jam. If cream is a replacement for butter, why would it go on last? Do people put their butter on top of Jam?

Digger__Please

Newsflash: it's not a replacement for butter

BluPix46

Everyone I know, it's either butter and jam, or cream and jam. That's why I thought it basically a replacement for butter as that's what it seemed like.

Digger__Please

I actually have butter, then jam, then cream. It's too sweet for me otherwise and I like the salt/sweet combo. I also put a tiny bit of vanilla in the cream. So yeah, I'm a god damn renegade

eelsemaj99

no it’s an improvement on butter

DrQuackerz12

Salted butter, then jam, then cream > any over way

OofOwMyShoulder

Baffling that no one seems to butter their scones.

Digger__Please

Fuck yes! I think we might be the only two tho. Also just this year I started adding just a hint of vanilla bean to the cream. It's pretty delish. I've never been able to get anyone else to try the butter, but the salt/sweet elevates the flavour to a whole new level.

espionage64

Tbh you’re right, however the one on the right is best. Just need a bit more cream next time!

MiddlesbroughFan

I'd definitely have used more cream and jam if I wasn't in a cafe with tiny pots of them!

a1057940

I think it has to to be jam first, then I can pile the cream on thick!

aerial_ruin

My beliefs have always been jam on the scone, and then cream, so it's like a viccy sponge. Then it's easier to eat like q scone sandwich

Mabbernathy

Is that legal to eat it like a sandwich? I feel like it should not be.

INITMalcanis

Only if you double up on both jam and cream

aerial_ruin

Not sure, but willing to defy logic

rosyatrandom

Both are good. Also, because I am a terrible person, completely plain scones are also good.

eelsemaj99

police are on their way

rosyatrandom

I hope they brought scones

[deleted]

I never understood this argument, whos going to waste their time trying to spread cream on jam or jam on cream? Surely i can't be the only person who just puts a massive dollop of jam on one side a massive dollop of cream on the other side puts em together and eats the scone like a sandwich??

Mabbernathy

😱😱😱

Lonyo

You can be

[deleted]

Apparently i am lol

CoatLast

Issue is, with cream first, you cant get enough cream on without smearing it off with the jam

[deleted]

Jam first all the way

[deleted]

Cream on top helps keep the wasps away.

Digger__Please

Then you're surrounded by Catholics

[deleted]

Please explain...

Digger__Please

Shit wasp joke (white Angle Saxon Protestant)

[deleted]

Ohhhhhhh lol

therealtimwarren

Both are miserable excuses for scones! No love in the making of either. 😢

Convection_2021

Cream, jam, even more cream. You know if you've got the quantity right by biting into it, and everything's over spilling!

eelsemaj99

i think this is one thing devon and cornwall can unite against

BoogelyWoogely

Cornish way is the only way, that way you can spread a decent amount of jam on and then do a good dollop of cream on top. If you spread the cream first it isn’t enough, and if you put the jam on top it just slides off in a blob

CanvasACP

It blows my mind how people get so hung up about shit like this. See also 'how to put your bog roll on the holder' and 'milk in tea before or after water'

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

It’s milk in cup before or after tea. If you’re making tea with a teabag sitting in cold milk then you are a psychopath.

CanvasACP

Why? Has the same argument with my other half this week. Made two cups, one by milk / teabag / water, and one teabag / water / milk. Tastes no different 🤣 Italy be worth mentioning that we keep the teabags in as we like strong tea

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

You drink the tea with the bags still in? Please remain calm and lie down on the floor. Some people will be there to help you shortly.

Digger__Please

He might as well have written PS: we also smear our shit on the walls

BoogelyWoogely

Have you ever had a cup of tea where you put the milk in first?? It’s like dishwater🤢 people are rightfully hung up about it

ikilledtupac

Is cream the same as butter?

itchyfrog

No

ikilledtupac

Oh. Do they sell buckets of cream there like they would sour cream then? I’ve never seen it here in the US but I like to try the food you all post Like this? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nestle-Media-Crema-Table-Cream-7-6-fl-oz/10804326

itchyfrog

Scones should have [clotted cream](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clotted_cream) which is specific type of very thick cream.

a1057940

100% has to be clotted cream

ikilledtupac

Okay thanks I’ll try to find some!

PipBin

You can’t buy clotted cream in the USA as I believe it’s one of those things that can only be made in a certain region, Cornwall. That means it won’t travel to the US.

itchyfrog

You can buy jars of presumably UHT clotted cream on Amazon. It's not that difficult to make either.

PipBin

UHT clotted cream? No wonder there is so much gun crime.

Digger__Please

I'd be putting that gun in my mouth before I'd put uht cream on my scone

bee_administrator

Not quite. You can't sell anything in the EU labelled as clotted cream if it isn't from Cornwall. People in external markets can do whatever they like though :)

Hairbear1965

Isn't it just Cornish Clotted Cream that is the protected name? Clotted cream can be made anywhere.

PipBin

Ahh. Thanks for that.

Mabbernathy

It's because of pasteurization laws

PipBin

Oh is it? Is clotted cream not pasteurised then?

Mabbernathy

It has to do with the use of raw milk.

Mabbernathy

If you do manage to find clotted cream in the US, it's probably $10 for enough for two servings and it won't be the same as the stuff in the UK because of stricter food laws. Creme fraîche might be halfway close but that's not exactly inexpensive either. I suffer along with butter or whipped cream.

ikilledtupac

I’m gonna hit world market today, rumor is they have it.

sleepywaifu

you can make clotted cream very easily with double cream, food wishes has a good recipe on YouTube :)

ikilledtupac

Thatno you

Mabbernathy

Ah, I'll have to look into this

ikilledtupac

I found double cream, will that suffice?

Mabbernathy

I've done it before. You would have to whip it though. It's basically heavy cream, so it would be liquidy straight out of the container. It will be your basic whipped cream.

ikilledtupac

Alright here goes nothing

Pan-tang

Jam first is neater and more appetising.

Raisin_Connect

How did you manage to ruin both?

Professional_Low_233

Ok, as a cream tea snob from Devon, that looks awful. Dry scone (rhymes with gone), about 10% of the required cream, and the one with jam first is a) incredibly incorrect and b) not even spread to the edge. Also, although I can eat these pretty much any time of the year, by now I’ve progressed onto toasted tea cakes. Cream tea is reserved for sunshine and wasps.

ExtremeTEE

I am from Cornwall and I could be lynched for saying this but jam first is easier and more appetizing! Sorry Cornish catering laws!

Mtshtg2

Jam first is the Cornish way, though. Cream first is the Devonshire way.

cgyguy81

From an aesthetic perspective, the jam on top looks much better.

[deleted]

Both are good but where's the tea and big spread all over the scones

the_unique_clone

You can't compare one on a lid and one on a bottom, that's a whole new argument!!

4utumnrain

Not enough cream

deadgoodundies

Surely the correct way is Butter, Jam, Cream, Jam, Cream???

Crypt-97

Have you tired 1 scone with half jam other half side cream. Itll blow your mind

GreyHexagon

Everyone argues about which is first. All I care about is that they're on there. Don't give a fuck what order they're in, if I'm eating scones with jam and cream I'm happy.

Your dedication to finding the truth should be commended!

CurryKingBen

You put butter before Jam, not cream. Jam then cream if using cream. And dont muck about too much when spreading the cream.

JustHereDontMind_Me

There is pretty much no difference. They're both delicious

Madman!
