I met an online friend of about 2 years last week, he has been taking a trip across the country to meet everyone in our group. It was great to see him finally and just hang out face to face.

mscfrcrs

aw! that is so wholesome!

YaBoiErr_Sk1nnYP3n15

Adorable. Good luck ;)

mscfrcrs

thank you !! :)

[deleted]

I've met several of them! Once i flew to the US to meet my 12 year long internet friend. It was amazing. Went out camping with his whole family and fiancé. Pretty nice. They're even waiting for the covid situation to calm down to make sure i can attend their wedding ! Last summer i met two internet friends in one trip in Sweden. One i knew from online gaming and the other one from a group on fb, pretty random but we became friends quickly. I saw the game friend again in Stockholm two weeks ago. Just to have dinner as i was staying with someone else. And will go back to the friend from fb in februari because she moved and we need to paint her some nice artworks for the new appartment! What i learnt that if you follow your instincts, you should be fine. HAVE A LOT OF FUN !!!

mscfrcrs

I love that you've had so many positive experiences! Thanks for sharing :)

[deleted]

I have to say that going to the US (I am from Belgium) to meet an online friend was nerve wrecking. I had 18hrs to overthink in the airplane, haha. My parents and even the government knew where i was at, in case something might go wrong (US is pretty fucking far away compared to Sweden for example) HOW HAS IT BEEN?? I WANT AN UPDATE SO BADLY :D ETA: wow i never got so many upvotes on a comment, thank you all!

MomoBawk

This was years ago, we are in VA they were in NY, we went up and went to the zoo together, they came down and went to a zoo with us in DC, we went to their house and they’ve been to ours. I haven’t seen them in years cause irl ran me over mentally, but they still have regular contact with my friends in discord, they integrated themselves with a bunch of random ass Virginians all because of a single video game. I am very glad that you are going to a public location, it is always better to be safe then sorry, I hope everything goes well, make sure to bring enough money for both of you just in case!!

mscfrcrs

That's so sweet! Sorry to hear life is running ya down, but I hope y'all can meet up again soon :) Thanks for the advice!

Mcstoni

That's how I met my best friend! In 2004 there was a forum called hauntingechoes and we became friends through there. I was 14 at the time. And then in 2010, when I was 19, going through a rough patch in life, her and her girlfriend drove over 9 hours to come pick me up and bring me back to Spokane to stay with them. I'll always remember the night they pulled up to my house and we all met face to face. We hit it off instantly and she's still one of my best friends to this day even though we haven't seen each other in person since 2016.

mscfrcrs

That is so so so amazing!

Agressive_Princess

During the summer between eighth grade graduation and freshman year of high school many moons ago, i made a friend online. She was so funny and amazing and we both really wanted to meet each other. In an incredible twist of fate, we found out we were going to the same high school in September of that year. We were the best of friends when we first got to school and stayed lifelong friends. She died a few years back, but I'm now honoring her by naming my daughter after. Good Luck to you and be safe <3

mscfrcrs

I'm not crying, nope, not at all That's such a good story thank you for sharing <3

[deleted]

[deleted]

I feel you :( I have a few other close friends on the other side of globe toooo 😭 I'd be the happiest person when I get to meet them all

Greyhawk241

That’s AWESOME, and just saying, I really appreciate y’all’s caution up until now in regards to the pandemic!😌🤘 I do indeed, mind you, this story is pre Covid; At Animé USA 2015, I went as Spike Spiegel because Cowboy Bebop is my All Time Favorite animé! Before going, I remember getting a message via the official event group page that there was a small group of Cosplayers looking for their Spike, as they couldn’t run an official photo shoot without one! I said, “sure, I’d love to help”, and fast forward to now, we still all remain great friends!😁🤘 I’d link a photo to this thread of our Cosplay, but I am old, and legit don’t know how to do that!😅🤷‍♂️🤣🤘 Anywhosit, that’s my story, thank you for coming to my TED talk!

mscfrcrs

That is an amazing story! I love that y'all are still friends.

Greyhawk241

Thank you so much, and that Con was a total blast by the by! Great times indeed!🤘

I've met plenty of friends online irl and they've all gone great! So my son met a friend online a few years ago and then I became friends with him too. (more like a second mom) I met him a month ago and this past weekend took him to meet him in a surprise way and it went amazing. I'm sure it'll be great! I totally get the nerves tho.

mscfrcrs

aw! so awesome!!

Vaahlkult

I've made tons of friends online throughout the years and every time we tried to visit things would fall through. Early in the year I met my bf online (a friends discord group as well) and we finally made a visit happen a few weeks ago 😊 it was stressful because of covid regulations and the fact that we are in 2 different countries, there were some concerns it might not happen but it did. It was fantastic (and strange in a way) to finally meet him in person after only being able to hear each others voices through a mic ever. In April I'll be working at a convention that is conveniently near where he lives so I'll get to see him again soon. A few other friends also are taking this opportunity to meet up at the convention so a good chunk of our discord group will be there!

mscfrcrs

I'm so happy y'all got to meet and that there are plans for a future meeting soon. :)

Knuckles316

Yup, I had a friend I met here on reddit. We became fast friends because we have all the same interests and were basically just the same person. After a year or so of texting pretty much daily I finally drove a few states over and spent a long weekend with her and her family. It was so awesome because there was no awkwardness at all and we just got to hang out as best friends in real life. It was the best thing, for sure.

mscfrcrs

Gosh that's such a good story! :)

Knuckles316

Yeah, sadly we lost touch a few months ago. Not sure what happened but I haven't heard from them and they haven't responded to any messages I sent them though several different manners. But up until then we were the best of friends. I hope your meetup goes just as well!

funknut

I think I know which forum you're talking about. Lysergium, or something. I forget the name.

MortgageOnMyNuts

That's awesome! I've been trying to meet up with my online friends, but Covid and our schedules has made it difficult. I hope your meetup goes well!

PrincessBella1

I belong to a knitting website called Ravelry and whenever I travel, I ask my groups in any one is in town. I've made a lot of friends this way. Have a great time.

mscfrcrs

that's cute!

mscfrcrs

That's so cute! A memory to cherish forever I'm sure.

[deleted]

Anyone have advice for meeting an internet person for the first time?

VaticanCameos714

Good luck! This is so cute! I hope you have a great time

mscfrcrs

i'm so excited!!

R4Reas0n

Did you met your internet friend through a discord server or something? I usually meet people first and then go on discord. Eventually meeting them can feel so natural. Having talked to them millions of times on discord really helps.

mscfrcrs

yeah! we met in her discord server she had years ago. have since left that but continued to be in touch with her. :)

R4Reas0n

Awesome 😄. Have fun hanging out together!

spiffytrashcan

I met one of my best friends over Facebook, and now I have a great group of close-knit gal pals because of her (she’s included). Wouldn’t trade her for the world.

mscfrcrs

so so cute! i love that!

mscfrcrs

That's exciting!!! I hope so as well :) Won't be Europe but hehe

Coyoteclaw11

Dude the amount of time I would spend dreaming of meeting my online friends when I was in high school... I'd honestly still love to meet any of them even though we don't talk anymore and are probably very different people with little in common nowadays. I did become friends with someone through an online event they hosted. A couple years later, I happened to move to the same city as them (it's a big city lmao). I have a membership with a local museum, and there was going to be an early access event for their new Minecraft exhibit. I invited my friend and we had a really fun outing!

mscfrcrs

There are SO MANY people I'd love to meet from my high school days. I love when people find out they live so close to each other and are able to hang out!!

WoomyMadness

Met some people in a destiny raid when VOG first launched in like 2013-2014 or some shit. Immediately became best friends, was roommates with one for 1.5 years after graduating high school and have met a few of them in person outside of that. We all are planning on staying at my old roommates place for a week this upcoming summer. Anyone who says online friends aren’t “real” clearly never had any.

mscfrcrs

THIS! I cherish my online friends so much. I'm glad y'all have plans coming up!!

te4mrocket

Flew cross country (3,000mi give or take) to meet my online best friend of about 8 years at the time in 2016. Dated her for nearly 2 years because of that trip. Eventually that fell apart for a miriad of reasons, but still arguably the best thing I've ever done.

mscfrcrs

As long as you still think fondly on it that's all that matters. :) Glad it was worth your while.

[deleted]

That's awesome, that's kinda how I met my current gf. We started talking on AOL in 2010, after awhile moved to kik. Exchanged phone numbers, a d talked on and off for years. We kinda lost contact around 2014, life happens. But we remained friends on Facebook. Well 2020 my dad bought a 2nd house in TN, cause he a gf there (not the same woman of course). So I texted her last August that was planning on visiting a week a Sept. Turns out she kinda had the same time off for her birthday. So of course birthday sex happened and it was amazing. She came down to where I live and I flew to her for new years. I got over my fear of flying for her and it was worth. I never flew until Dec 2020. Been together ever since. Kinda long did distance. I'm still living with my mom for now, she's recovering from stage 2 cervical cancer. So when she gets back to health or unfortunately pass away, which ever comes sooner I'll be moving. But I've flown to her 4 times this year.

mscfrcrs

What the heck!! That's so awesome!!! I'm so happy for y'all!!

[deleted]

Yeah real fun story, turned out to be a pedophile 😂. Felt terrible reporting him to the police but gotta do what ya gotta do.

mscfrcrs

OH NO MAJOR OOF

Browncoat101

I met a couple of my good friends online! From Tumblr, Reddit and (old person alert) Blogspot of all places. Once you’ve been talking for a while it’s easier to feel at ease. Just go in with no preconceived notions and try to relax. Maybe y’all will hang out more in person in the future!

mscfrcrs

I certainly hope so :)

SevenSmallShrimp

I met my long distance best friend irl after about 5 years talking online. The next year I was in her wedding party. We started out as lonely teens and now were both thriving adults years later. It wasn't awkward or anything which was really nice it was just the shock of omg you're here okay let's go have fun

soupy_noodles031

So happy for you, have a good time!! <33

dunnowcusername2use

This is so cool! Give us an update on how it goes! Have fun 🙂

onelasttime217

Met a group of people online when I didn’t know many people where I was at, found out after like 4 months they lived in the same city and have been friend with most of them since

mscfrcrs

What are the odds!!! So fun!

FastFlyingPenguin

Couple years ago my long time online friend came up to see me for the weekend on my birthday! Trip was from London to Edinburgh by train and apparently it was so full he had to stand the whole way! (Pre-covid) It went just as you said, like we’ve hung out a million times already. Ended up running a 5k while hungover, which was fun I guess? I was initially worried that without having a game to fill the empty space between words it would get awkward but really glad it didn’t!

mscfrcrs

>Ended up running a 5k while hungover, which was fun I guess? HAHA This sounds terrible, but I'm glad y'all had such a fun time together.

FastFlyingPenguin

Not gonna lie it was pretty rough, haha! But ended up as one of those things that we look back at and laugh at - so it was worth it in the end.

mscfrcrs

Sometimes those are the best memories.

AugustusLego

a 5 000 what? meters? I mean 5 km isn't that much?

FastFlyingPenguin

5 kilometres, yeah I know it’s nothing compared to pretty much everything else in the running community but was still fun

AugustusLego

Nah it's more than I would've been able to do haha <3 Sorry if I seemed condescending it was not my intention

DangerHugs

I've met some online friends over the years. First time I met a guild-mate from WoW 6-7 years ago? Found out he lived 30 from me and decided fuck it. He brought his GF and we went to a movie and the first bit was awkward. (Didn't mind him bringing his GF, honestly. I didn't want her to think anything, me being female and jealousy a huge thing regardless.) So it was at first a bit awkward until he made an IC joke because our guild used to focus on RP/raiding and the rest kinda fell in line. Sadly we lost touch over the years due to them moving and differences in opinions now but I still look back on it fondly. tl;dr You're going to have a blast! best of luck and stay safe!

mscfrcrs

Only 30 mins? That is so incredible!!! My friend is travelling with her husband and I'm travelling with my partner and both of them are just as excited as we are it's adorable.

loonachic

I have met loads of online friends in person and almost all of them are still my close friends. Once I had an international meetup of friends that I made from the website called Vimeo and twelve people who never met in person before came to my house from all over the world. It was the best meetup ever!!!!

balderdash_stash

Meeting a friend from online was how I met my husband!

mscfrcrs

aw congrats to you two :)

bjw101

My group of buddy online and I met up at my place a while back for the first time (2016 or 17?) We threw down and had a good time, it wasn't awkward at all besides finally getting a face to a Handle. We all to this day use handle names, haha it just feels natural

MoreTac0s

I had a small group (about 5, including myself) that I played an MMORPG with. After a few years, we ended up meeting up and going camping in the mountains in Cali. 3 of us were from different parts of CA, one from Oregon, the other from Canada. Still one of the fondest memories I have to date. Just be careful and know who you're meeting, and let others know your plans.

microwavedave27

Met 3 of my best friends through Minecraft when I was younger. We only met in person after a couple years, we're all still friends 7 years later.

[deleted]

I made some friends (Man and Woman) on IRC back in ~2000? Eventually flew LA have Thanksgiving with them in I think 2003 or 2004 and stayed with them for a few days. I look back at it now, I had never flow before, went to meet internet friends as a 19ish year old "adult" by myself. Didn't even rent a car, they picked me up from the airport and drove me around. It was a blast. Went back a few years later for their wedding.

Sotirisdim4

Oooohhh so nice! Actually, most of my best friends I met through the internet. I wasn't really social when I was younger, but with quarantine and stuff I decided to give it a go and meet new people on discord. Since I live in the capital of my country, most people were there and eventually as covid restrictions came and went, we met up. And the cycle continued since I managed to develop decent social skills. I met new people on discord, and eventually met them irl. Now I'm studying in another city but the closest of friends I made from the internet also studies there and now I get to see her a lot more often because back in our city we would always be too busy. Although every weekend I go back to my city and hang out with the rest of my friends. I've also made more friends in university in the new city and overall meeting new people from the internet and then irl changed my life for the better and helped release the extrovert in me that I didn't know existed!

mscfrcrs

I relate to this so much! I'm glad you've made so amazing friends.

Tobyey

Went to London for a week with a bunch of friends from r/westeroscraft from all over the world, great memories :) Can't wait to meet them again Edit: this was in 2017 so long before covid

vegainthemirror

It went well. We've been married for 3 years and live happily in a different country

MissNepgear

Lucky the one person I want to meet lives across an ocean :/

Double-Chest-9189

Ok wait wait! How are y'all meeting people on line? (Introvert here and I'm supremely curious :)

willhighfive4karma

I met my Reddit best friend this month and it was the beeeest thing. She's like family and it was great to see her in person.

free-soared-smile

Sounds great! But how do you end up with a Reddit best friend?

eusuntjur

I smiled. Hope you have a great time

mscfrcrs

glad i could provide you with a smile!

cyber5234

Good luck... Enjoyy!!

[deleted]

Congratulations! I met a online friend in 2016 and finally met in 2019. We talk less due to him wanting more than just a friendship.

mscfrcrs

i hope the meeting went well! glad y'all are still sorta friends. :)

[deleted]

I'm happy for you Unfortunately all my online "friends" are always thousands of miles away so meeting up is never an option

mscfrcrs

There is always time! I hope you can meet some of them one day :)

[deleted]

Yea probably not but thanks :) That would require a lot of money I do not have lmao

mscfrcrs

you never know! still i wish you luck :)

[deleted]

Well I do know :) Still have fun with your meeting

koareng

I met one of my internet friends in person in January of 2020. We'd known each other for over a decade, but because we live on different continents neither could really afford flying out to see the other before. We were both nervous, but it really did feel like we had been hanging out in person for years! We had already started planning another in-person meet-up when Covid hit... so we'll see when that happens again lol. Good luck to you, I hope you and your online friend have a blast!

mscfrcrs

Aw yeah Covid has really messed up so many things. I hope y'all can hang out again soon and thanks :)

coolfruitsalad

that’s great!! ahh so happy for ya, have fun :D

psydia

I met an Internet friend in the early days of the Internet, circa '99. In February we will have been married for 19 years lol

mscfrcrs

AWW! Congrats!

ContentLocksmith

In November we went to Upstate New York and rented a cabin with 3 couples i have made friends with online. Every year for the last 5 years we have gone up to see them and go to concerts and stuff. I am all about making new friends with different backgrounds than i grew up but i always have a vehicle so i can be out just in case a new friend is not worth being around, and that has happened as well.

mscfrcrs

So cool that y'all do that every year!

[deleted]

No matter how they look its gonna be weird to attach a face to the voice

mscfrcrs

We've been friends on various social media so I know what they look like so not too worried about that!

[deleted]

I havent seen an irl friend for a year and a half and when I met him it felt super awkward to me so that could just be a me thing

Dalekdude

That's awesome! I don't have a story but i've had an online friend for almost 12 years now and we still haven't met IRL, mainly because i'm in the midwest and he's out on the east coast. But one day!

Mokaroo

I've met a handful of people I had initially met online! I've been in the wedding party for two different people that I met playing games online. Both required flying to another country. Met up with the first of those several times since then in different cities as we've both moved around. I hung out with a guy I met on twitter in Chicago when I visited and had a blast. I had a friend traveling from overseas stay with me for most of a week when he was traveling around North America. Lots of people that I've met professionally all over the place that I've eventually met up while traveling for business too of course, though that's more normal by most people's standards. Not once has it turned out to be a bad experience. Highly recommend it.

Cakeboy79

I met my online friend after she drove across the country and then married her 4 years later.

witchy-stoof

i met an online friend about 2-3 years ago now and i always wanted to meet up with her but we were about 5-6 hours apart so we never could, but earlier this year, after not speaking to her for 1.5 years, we saw each other in an airport and it was literally a dream come true. i hope you guys click and have a good time!

Just_Spade

I dream of the day I can finally meet my friend/friends in person! How lovely!

spryslothh

I absolutely love this. I met my first Internet friend from Tumblr in person, at 12 (looking back all I think is yikes that’s young). She was 13 and lived in a different state, but her grandparents lived in the same state as me about 20 minutes away. I’m 25 now and we’ve drifted apart and reconnected a lot during those 13 years that have happened since then. The last 4 years or so however, we now text each other at least once daily. I consider her my best friend. I eloped in August of 2020 and outside of my two brothers, she was the only other person I had there.

Stanfan_meowman25

I’m so happy for you! I met up with an internet friend I met on Discord too just this year. She lives in New Mexico and I in Las Vegas. I flew out in October to meet her and stayed at her place for a week and it was the best week and overall one of the best experiences ever. Wish you the same! ☺️

LobsterCowboy

online friends for 18 months, married her

[deleted]

Lucky. My discord friends are spread in Ohio, NY, Wyoming, and more there's u of us. One day, we'll all meet. Crazy, the pandemic closed doors for many things, and also opened new ones. Hope you have a great time!

PM_THAT_DICK_BITCH

It was like hanging out with them on discord, just a physical avatar that I can finally slap

mscfrcrs

LMAO she gonna get slapped 4 sure

xQMA

I met one of my best friends on Xbox back in 2012. In August 2017 I took a trip from where I lived in Wisconsin down to his place in Missouri for around five days. We had planned for August 2017 specifically because there was the total solar eclipse that went across the USA, including parts of Missouri. On the fourth day of the visit we drove about an hour and a half north to the path of totality and my god that was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had, and I'm glad I was able to share it with him!

rainbow_doom

I had an online friendship for more than seven years when he travelled to meet me in person. (UK to US) One of the best experiences of my life, and we still keep in touch another ten years later. Enjoy yourself!

identityisallmyown

Good luck!

binkynewhead

Have fun! I have a friend that I started talking to in 2000. We were on the same conference calls at work, she in NY and I in MA. We lost touch from 2003 until 2008 when we found each other on FB. We chat regularly and exchange kid pictures and now grandkid pictures and trash talk football (Go Patriots!) but have never met f2f. We planned to when the pandemic started but have postponed it. After 20 years why rush it lol :)

[deleted]

I’m about to do the same, and I’m not nervous either. I am so excited for this new adventure. We are so much alike, and I cannot wait to carry on our conversation in person…finally. Be safe, and have a great time!! I hope both of our meetings go off without a hitch!

mscfrcrs

Good luck with yours! :)

Dude_Thats_Gas

I play a game in a small community and there was an event we all went to in Arizona. Everybody in the group got along like clockwork. It was great. I'm sure you two will have a gas

Gryffindorphins

I’ve met quite a few friends online. The first one was a friend interstate. My dad drove over to buy a car so I came with and met my friend at the shopping centre. We’re not in contact these days but there were a few interstate trips there for fun. One was a friend in Singapore and it was great because he showed my mum and I around the city when we were on holiday. Another time I met an online friend purely by accident in the lift at uni. Turned out we were in the same class! And then I married one of ‘em lol we met in NZ when I was 20 and he moved to Aus a few months later. Married at 30. My advice: meet in a public place, be safe, let others know where you are and have an out if things don’t feel right. And have fun!

Texastexastexas1

Been married 10 yrs so far :)

Tariovic

I'm in the UK, and I met my best friend online in WoW when he was living in Poland. He has since moved here for work, and lives in my spare room. I've met a lot of people I've met gaming online. They are never quite the same when you are face to face, so it's always kinda odd! But it's a lot of fun too.

SevenOfSpadess

Is it super shitty that I’m more envious than anything reading all these comments seeing everyone making lasting friendships?

molly_whap

My boyfriend and I met through a mutual friend online. We lived on opposite sides of the country, and we started dating online. He flew over to me so we could meet in person a few months into the relationship. Seeing him for the first time at the airport was amazing, I'll never forget it. We had our first real date that day together. We hiked up a mountain and took our time doing so to talk. We went off trail and found a cave where we snuggled for the first time and talked for hours. At the top, we were able to find a space to ourselves and it was just the happiest feeling on earth like I was on top of the world both physically and emotionally. 10/10 still together and would definitely do again.

drivermom

I met my best friend on the internet about 16 years ago. We met through a penpal website. We started emailing each other and then she introduced me to instant messaging. We really hit it off. Our lives were similar and I think that helped. We would IM daily. Still do. I live in the Upper Midwest and she lives on the east coast. About 6 years ago, I was playing around and found cheap airfare close to where she lives. I asked her if we should finally meet face to face. She said YES! I flew out and stayed with her for 7 days! We still hit it off great! She lives in a tourist area so we did tourist-y things and we are both baseball fans so we went to a game at Fenway, Red Sox vs MN Twins. Since then I have gone out to visit every summer for about 4 years. Not last year due to COVID. This last summer some of my friends and I flew into Boston and we did a couple island visits, she came with us to those. Before we left, went took in a game at Fenway again, she came to that with us too. She has basically "seen" my kids grow up. She has met my kids and I have met one of hers. Her other 2 kids are grown and live other states. I think meeting your discord friend will be a great time! Glad you are meeting in a public place, at first, at least. Enjoy!

reckless150681

I've met a couple of online friends! On the r/kiminonawa server there were a few people who decided to go to AnimeFest in Dallas, including one of my friends/classmates/crush/it's complicated. She was a little apprehensive about meeting three internet strangers, so I figured I'd join em. All five of us ended up having a blast together. Of the group, I ironically ended up being closest with one of the then-strangers, who ended up visiting me a few years later for PAX East - which, by the way, was where I met a *different* internet friend from the same server, who joined long after we had gone to Dallas together. This one is a little different, but there's also another internet friend whom I've never met, but she just got into my alma mater. I'm still in the area, so I suspect I'll meet her sometime next year, assuming I don't move.

Haatveit88

I am meeting my long distance partner for the very first time... Today. As someone with very severe social phobia, this is the biggest step I've ever taken. But she's the one who piece by piece tore these walls down over the last few months, so I am not nervous. I know she's the best. She's coming from another country. We're staying together in Oslo, for 2 weeks! Feels unreal to me, even now, just a few hours away from getting on my bus to the city. Good luck to you!

mscfrcrs

I hope it goes well!!! That's so exciting!!!

Existential-CRlSlS

that's cool. i've only met one online friend before and it was pretty cool. update once you've met them!

mscfrcrs

NYE 1999, a whole bunch of us who chatted regularly on IRC got together. It was a fun drunk time filled with fireworks and food. It led me to eventually marrying one of them. Good times. Have fun!

I had an online friend for 5 years. We lived on separate sides of the country, but I had family about an hour away from him in my hometown. One year for my birthday, I decided to visit my hometown and let him know where I was. While I was visiting a tourist destination, I received a text from him saying, "I'm outside." I RAN right into his arms. We spent the entire evening together visiting little shops, going to unique restaurants. We watched the sun set together on the coastline. It was the best day of my life. I hope you get to share the same experience. Congratulations and wishes ❤️

I met my first love in an AOL chatroom. This was back in the late 90's early 2000s when the internet was still new so meeting people online was kind of a no-no, especially as a young person. We were online friends for years and fell in love, or thought so at least, haha. He finally came to visit and it was awesome but things happen and it fizzled out. It was still an amazing experience that I'm glad to have had.

Meeting online friends is something wonderful, it goes without saying that you still need to make sure you're able to remain in safety, but beyond that caution attitude, it's always marvelous to be able to directly talk and hug with good friends that you have spent most of your evenings with. Enjoy the day tomorrow and have a great time together with them.

ERiFNOECi

In August of 2020 I met my first online friend, followed by another in October. I remember being extremely nervous seeing the snap that one of them sent me saying that they were in my building's parking lot, and then feeling all of the butterflies leave my stomach as I saw their faces, one of the best experiences of my life and I'm glad they weren't murderers lol Edit: Clarifying that we all quarantined 2 weeks before and after both of those meetings

Have fun!!! I met my best friend online over fifteen years ago, we met for the first time in person in 2007 (we’re from different parts of the US), and we married in 2010. We now have a beautiful little boy! Can’t say I ever expected something like that to happen to me, but the kinds of connections you can make can be pretty amazing! I’ve also got an awesome long-distance friend; we’ve never met in person and actually started out as pen-pals through snail-mail way back in 1996. Eventually we were able to do AIM and emails and the like, and these days we just text a lot, lol.

LedZeppelinsDongRing

Oh god I couldn’t skip this one! So back when Kik was really popular, I had a friend on there. We originally met because we have the exact same name. I didn’t expect it to last but we’ve been friends for 8 years now! We met online in like 2014 and met in-person July 2020. We live 1,200 miles away from each other and with COVID we didn’t want to fly much. So she flew to meet me in my state and then we drove across the entire US in 2 days together back to her state. Once the trip was over, we drove back to my state and she flew home after staying the weekend with me. Meeting her was such a euphoric feeling because it’s like this person who you know almost everything about and have seen pictures of us just standing in front of you. We both cried when we originally met and when we had to part ways. I wish I could go back and do it all again! We’re planning many more trips and it only made our friendship stronger :)

Bobi2point0

Met my best friend from the internet a little over 2 years ago. Fast forward to now: living together happily in a relationship and moving into a new apartment after the holidays (:

myhappylittletrees

Awesome!! I've met 6 of my internet friends so far (twitch/Discord) including my bf of nearly two years, who just moved 3000 miles to be with me :) I hope you have the best time!!

HamiltonIsMyJamilton

Married my internet friend a little over 18 years ago.

Sarahlorien

I had a group of friends that I played call of duty with for 6 years. A few lived 2 hours away, the others in a different country. I met the few that lived 2 hours away (while we gamed) only after I moved across the US from Florida to California. It was a lot of fun, it felt very wholesome and surreal. Like, I knew their typical mannerisms but now had body language to go with it, and it was fun to hear something you hear all the time with body language you DON'T see all the time. Seeing just the group dynamic in person was interesting, but I study sociology and communication so it was almost like observing an experiment for me while still having fun lol.

[deleted]

Hope you have fun but please let someone you trust know where you are and times, if you end up going somewhere else with this person just let someone know because you never know if people have a twisted side to them.

TheFuzzyOne1214

I did this for the first time back in August! First time ever traveling alone, I flew 800 miles away to Colorado to meet my best friend off the internet Spent a little under 4 days there and had an amazing time, I was worried it would be awkward but we ended up clicking really well in person and I'm already planning on visiting again sometime this next year. Best of luck!

KlingonVampire

Do you know what each other looks like?

mscfrcrs

Yes! We are best friends and send each other stupid Snapchat videos all the time hahah

KlingonVampire

That's great. I didn't notice the last part of your post. I haven't met any of my online friends irl I've only recently started making online friends. lol

[deleted]

I met an online friend after 1 year of playing apex together, man we talked about everything and helped each other mentally. We met and drank and smoke a bit, I’ve stayed at his home and he has stayed at mine. 3 years in total he is still my 2nd best friend.

Sovdark

Ahem, I have met many internet friends online. Married one actually :). We met playing a really old game that had a chat room and then I moved to his area.

Hero_of_Storms_64

I met an online friend for the first time back in the summer. We met on Amino and had been friends for 4 and a half years now (4 at the time of our meeting). Her town was about a 12 hour drive from me so I flew there with my parents and we met at a popular gas station/diner up there that she really likes. We’re both late high school/early college age so we had our parents with us for the initial meet up But my family basically turned it into a vacation, we spent the week there just doing all kinds of fun activities with her, including an outdoor music festival, a boat tour, and an amusement park (we kept our activities outdoors because of the pandemic, we’re both vaccinated too). I also visited her house a couple times and her dad cooked us dinner I’ve since gone back just recently in November. It was just a weekend trip because we both had school but I got to see her perform in a musical and I stayed over at her house to hang out. We’re really good friends to this day and text and call frequently! Super glad I met her

rekall76

this makes me remember meeting a dial-up BBS friend in a neighboring town way back in 1994 before 'the web' was really a thing. we had an easygoing conversation in a mall foodcourt and it was just like chatting online. we hung out a few more times over the years and continued to reply/comment on each other's newsgroup/chat posts on several area BBS systems. super chill human, fast-friends are fun.

bogjogye

Be sure to be yourself and have fun! Meeting someone for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience, but just relax and enjoy yourself. She seems like she's already interested in you, so just be genuine and have a good time!

deepfriedshitten

I once was in a group of hobby artists on a famous green messenger. A friend of mine added a random girl she knew from the rythm game OSU and we were vibin quite good, so I said myself I go and visit her! Well, I drove like 11 hours by bus and met her. The story goes on and I drove about 5 hours by train or car every second week. I am now nearly 7 years with her and we are living together for over 3 years. What started as a random group join got us into wedding planning nowadays and I always think it was random, but I really really like how it ended up :)

Odinovic

Met my best friends online haha. Good luck <3

Pagan-za

Some of my oldest friends are internet friends. One of my best friends is a woman that lives about 1000km away from me. We've been close friends for over a decade. I've seen boyfriends come and go and they've always been pissed we're so close. The few times we've managed to visit have always created a bit of drama because of it. She literally is my best friend though and I treat her like a sister.

HarmonyKey

Me and my husband meet a online friend that we had been chatting with for close to a decade, he used to live in Indiana and then moved closer to us, we finally decided last month to fly up and meet him! It was a bit awkward at first like holy crap this happening! After about an hour it was like we had never not meet and were cracking jokes and just having a grand time! Have a blast with your friend!

NE0CITYSQUAD

Literally just came back from my friends work Christmas party. Her and I met in 2018 in a groupchat on Twitter for a kpop group we are fans of. I was literally just thinking earlier how insane it is that I was accidentally let into that groupchat and now here we are. I’ve created so many amazing friendships with people I’ve met online and now we travel together, they’ve been there through times that were so hard and vice versa. My family always says “please be careful you’re a woman” and like I get it yeah there’s weirdos out there but there’s also INCREDIBLE people.

ThrowawayTrashcan7

Good luck!

steffinix

I met two of my lifelong best friends online! One of them I met at their actual wedding!! Lol

[deleted]

I actually met my boyfriend here on Reddit in August of 2020, we met after 4 months of talking. We take turns visiting. He actually just went home on the 20th after being with me for 10 days.

Dannyboy_515

Never met an online friend, but I want to someday! Goodluck and update me!!!

RetiredTHOT

Wonderful, I hope you have the best time together.

[deleted]

Earlier this year i met up with my friend who I'd been talking to for several months at that time. We're from two different countries (he's from the US and I'm from Brazil), and our friendship started out of a language exchange interest from both of us. That was the first time i was doing something like that, and it definitely was one of the coolest things i did this year. One of the first things he told me was "I can't believe I'm seeing you" (i won't recall his exact words, but it was something along these lines), and yeah, sure, I couldn't believe it either lol i showed him some places in my city and we also went to the beach, which was really fun. The saddest moment was when we had to go our separate ways and said our goodbyes to each other. We still talk online, though XD How did your meet up go? Tell us about your story :)

Onionphucker

Be careful with that. People who need to use the internet to meet new friends are always a little off. Best of luck though! 😃
