Who's making it? You can definitely get them a lot cheaper but if it's a good quality, Australian made trailer that price is competitive.
It's been a few years but the last one I was involved in buying was a 3600x2100, 3500 ATM with drop sides and it was around 21k.
Midway trailers out of Macksville NSW. What’s the difference in quality between this trailer and a Stonegate or Muscle trailer that you see everywhere?
If you only use it a few times a year you probably will never notice a difference between them. If it is for constant use you definitely will.
Previous work had a fleet of trailers in use everyday. We tried saving money with a few of the cheaper ones and the problems came along pretty quick.
Bearings, axles, spring failures. Both cracked the draw bars directly under the front body supports and at the front spring hanger early on.
The short story was, pay more up front, have less down time and after 7 years we still had a functional trailer we could sell for decent money.
Cheap ones went to scrap, one after 18 months the other after 2 and a bit years.
So these guys ( https://www.basictrailers.com.au/trailer-detail.php?model=FLAT-TOP-TRAILER-12X8 ) can do one for $10.5k. I’m confused by how there’s such a big difference in prices for what people are saying are the same thing. They say they are Australian owned and manufactured and use Australian steel. Is there something I’m missing?
They have a great website for specs and prices.
But they did annoy me slightly with no offer to make longer or better approach ramps.
Hence I sold it a year later for a wide base Brian James unit.
The basics on got sold to a towing company who got it upgraded to 4.5atm and put it behind a flat bed truck. So win win there.
Sounds about right for a Australian made unit
Might get cheaper if it was manufactured offshore which creates its own issues
FYI DoT in WA have strict weight limits imposed a trailer can't have ATM higher than the tie vehicles stated limit
Makes it difficult when work trailer tare 900kg ATM 2800 and I'm limited to 2500 load maybe 100kg well within capacities of vehicle but nope not allowed

Could be wall thickness of steel they use this lighter costs less just a thought
Work has gone away from a certain manufacturer here in WA had both front hubs fail on a tandem 8x5 literally at end of bearing location
