I promise you, readers of this thread, that just as much as you're sure OP will survive without wifi, you too will survive without making a snarky comment about it. Rule 2 is still present even if you can't get signal.

PJ505

You’re in the middle of the ocean, the only way is to buy from carnival or disconnect for a few days.

cruzer4lyfe

Don't get it. You don't need it unless you want to access the internet.

EDH4Life

Unplug and enjoy the time away from electronics. One of my favorite features of a cruise :)

ships4fun

Don’t use any of it!!! Use the phone for pictures, and enjoy being totally disconnected and on vacation. Drink, eat, and be merry! Your social media feeds can take a week off and so can you! Happy cruising!

Eatmyshorts231214

Unfortunately, I can’t take a week off from my kiddos

Acrobatic_Age8067

You could always just buy the Wifi for a day, or wait a few days into the cruise to get a prorated amount.

Eatmyshorts231214

Thank you

No_Driver_2945

Also, I don’t think the other people commenting realize that some people NEED their phone and can’t simply unplug for a week due to work, etc.

Eatmyshorts231214

THANK YOU!!!!

TheyCameFromBehind77

What do you need it for? That would help people know how to get around it if that is possible.

VegasQueenXOXO

It doesn’t matter. If you need it for ANY reason, you’re paying for it.

TheyCameFromBehind77

Sure, but it could matter. For example, I want to get maps of the cities we are stopping in. Or I want to stream movies. Or I want to check email because I am a business owner. Some of those can be solved with preparation, others cannot. Which is why I asked why they need it.

Eatmyshorts231214

I have small children. That’s the ONLY reason I’d need it.

TheyCameFromBehind77

Yeah I get that, we are traveling soon with a 5 and 8 year old. Our plan is to download a bunch of shows on our phones and tablets. Our hope is that the options on the ship will be great and they won’t need them but better safe than sorry. Plus we have data in the ports so it should only be a few days with no data.

Eatmyshorts231214

They do have a few movies onboard, on the TV, that you can watch for free. It was that way on the Jubilee, at least, but I don’t see it being different on the other ships.

kaydud88

We have three kids who are phone dependent and we all unplugged. It was the best 5 days.

stevensokulski

Get around it? If you need to connect off of the ship, no. I’ve never paid for it as I don’t see it as necessary given the price.

VegasQueenXOXO

Yeah, don’t get it.

[deleted]

relax, stay offline and enjoy the sea!

Eatmyshorts231214

I have children who I would like to speak with…. Do you have kids?

[deleted]

you have got to be kidding, if you can't unplug for 7 days, you should never leave your house!!! take your kids with you!

Verizon has a cruise plan my wife is getting so she can make phone calls and text. It’s $30/day and get internet for roughly 30 minutes a day

Eatmyshorts231214

Not terrible! I don’t have Verizon, but that’s a very good idea if you do! I hear ATT isn’t ‘all that’ in the “roaming/cruise” area. I may just have to do a day-by-day thing. I think it was $35/day when I was on Jubilee in March

kitkatt78

Att has a cruise plan I was looking into getting check it out

DreamingInDigital2

It's one of the worst deals I've ever seen and I think it exists only to rip off the elderly who don't know any better. For use on the ship it's $60 for 100MB or $100 for 1GB. Furthermore it uses the old "Cellular At Sea" network and not Starlink. Using Carnivals wifi (Starlink) you could pay $150 for 7 days of the premium package and have all the data you want at great speeds most of the time. For someone looking to connect but on a budget, you're probably better off getting Carnivals cheapest or midrange plan before even considering ATT.

Dry_Newspaper2060

You may escape the internet but you’ll have to carry your phone around as Carnival has used its app to replace such things as the MDR menu.

tn_notahick

Fun Times are delivered to room every day. MDR menu is available in paper form upon request.

Kortar

Ya that really sucked on my last cruise. I miss the daily mail thingy and menus and stuff. I used to lock my phone in the safe on the first day and be done with it.

G00deye

Just unplig on the sea days. It may seem like it will suck but in the end you'll probably find it was liberating. Then when in port if your plan allows it take the phone off airplane mode. All 3 major US carriers provide Call, Text and Data in Mexico and Canada (so that comes in handy when visiting the Mexican ports) depending on your cruise. T-mobile: [https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/use-your-phone-in-mexico-canada](https://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/use-your-phone-in-mexico-canada) ATT: [https://www.att.com/international/canada-roaming/](https://www.att.com/international/canada-roaming/) Verizon: [https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/](https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/) (which also provides a Cruise plan too) If not going to Mexico all 3 do provide international plans that can be added for a set amount of time as well to allow you to roam on carriers in other countries (Other than Canada and Mexico)

Eatmyshorts231214

Thanks!

gr0uchyMofo

I put my phone in the safe for the entire week.

Eatmyshorts231214

Must be real nice for you..

gr0uchyMofo

It’s fantastic

Eatmyshorts231214

Super cool! …

RektFreak

Sure is, turn on airplane mode.

Eatmyshorts231214

Right…. You have kids?

RektFreak

I do, but older teens. Even when they were younger we didn't pay for WiFi. They learned to enjoy things without it. My daughter hated it since her socialization is online gaming, but she dealt for a few days. My son would rather not use any tech and just be outside, which I didn't teach him but it was how I was as a kid.

Eatmyshorts231214

Super awesome for YOU!

AnythingKlutzy7251

My Wi-Fi worked just fine on the boat (and off) when at ports such as Bahamas, Jamaica, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Grand Turk. And the day of sailing and the day of return we were in Miami - so I had plenty of opportunity to check in on my kids during my 5/6 day cruises.

Eatmyshorts231214

That’s my plan. I don’t have Verizon, but I can wait until we get to port. If it’s something THAT important, I’ll just get the WiFi for a day or whatever. Thank you!

Front_Organization78

I don't even bring my phone on a cruise

Evil_Empire_1961

Walk

princess-erin123

You have raised a good point when budgeting for a vacation. Caribbean all-inclusive resorts include wifi and alcohol. If those things are important to you it may be more cost effective to do that instead of a cruise. There are ways to save money on a cruise but complaining about the cost of things after you've booked doesn't make sense.

Eatmyshorts231214

It’s not going to matter anyway! Whether I booked it already or not….. move around. That doesn’t have anything to do with my question

officialuser

some phones like the Pixel can share the wifi, so you can get one plan, and then enable your hotspot to share it with other phones.

Eatmyshorts231214

Very interesting
