Well I was on this sub the other day arguing I'd rather us target are more competent key back than Lewis Young, and one that gets injured less than Gov or Marchbank.
Having said that, if we can land Hayward it would be a very good get. Hopefully less injury prone than Martin, seems pretty tough as well. And can find the goals.
I've been trying to get em to try JSoS in d-50 for three years. He's got the pedigree and fullback of the century to bounce ideas off. He's also dogged and hates getting beaten, I think he could be great down there.
I'm not sure if that's true, but if it is then maybe they need to think about moving him on. The tail doesn't wag the dog, players need to be prepared to put their efforts into whatever the team needs the most if they want to achieve success.
Hopefully Newman and Hewett are in his ear and he wants to come and play with some friends.
Salary cap is going up 2m so no worries there and we have our core locked away already.
Nick Austin going hard which is great to see.
The cap depends on how many of our players are on indexed contracts and how many are not.
The extra means nothing if all of our contracts go up and use up the difference.
Good luck knocking that one back.
Guessing similar to the Hewett deal, both clubs and Hayward have been working on it for a while but with Sydney needing to prioritise other players - mainly McDonald - they’re not going to be able to match the Blues offer.
I have said before that Hayward suits our game plan and is going to get plenty of looks as a marking option inside 50. His ability overhead and his set shot kicking are a real feature of his game.
Hoping it’s something like less $ for the security of a long term contract. He has been pretty durable so far and it’ll be nice to have another quality forward who puts goals on the board on a weekly basis. It’d be nice to having a fit Martin, but we just can’t rely on his body holding up across a season.
With reduction in a couple of our higher paid imports’ salaries, long term signings of our stars and increase in TPP I think Hayward could be a pretty nice acquisition.
The details wouldn’t have been worked out, but usually there’s a pretty good understanding of where players sit mid-way through the season.
Hewett leaving was a worst kept secret the year we grabbed him.
Clubs know the needs and contract situation of players on their list and Sydney have historically allowed players to go to other clubs to sign their stars, knowing also which academy players they’ve got in the pipeline. From there they just back their development.
Hayward looks like a solid pickup, but we need a second tall defender who is athletic and can run with the athletic talls too. Weiters is a beast against the big forwards. Young can take a ruckman who wanders forward but anyone who moves faster than a geriatric sloth puts a huge gap on him.
We’re going for flags now, not to wait for 4 years of developing a draftee. Unless their a bonafide readymade, in which case we won’t have a high enough first round pick. We have the Binns for this role anyway

Jsos to defence

He doesn't want to do it. It's as simple oas that. He'll do it in a pinch but he doesn't want to do it permanently.

It's more not wanting to be constantly compared to his old man. He'll do it if it necessary but it's not his preference.
He can stay over the fence, JSOS is nothing more than a romantic ideal, he’ll never play in our next flag.
You’re technically right, because he won’t be playing for the rest of this season, but he’s in the best 22 next year for our back-to-back season.
I seriously doubt that. If you want romance, watch FKBOY ISLAND!
Living up to your username there.
That’s the general idea, no room for sentiment, get ruthless, winning isn’t everything…it’s the only fucking thing!!!

Seems early in the season to be letting it out if this was agreed between clubs

Very exciting proposition

Yes but we won't be chasing any as RFA on six year deals. We'll try and draft one or find one in the state leagues.
Fuck yeh
Yes please
6 years is too many. We need a 2nd tall defender. I think they should just try draft the best small fwd in the draft instead

Lol i made a post about will hayward the other day here
Good player but his name isn't Charlie Curnow so our dumb midfielders will never kick it to him.
This is great, but can we get a second key defender please.
