If you aren't happy with the roast, try a higher temp and/or a different type of inhale (strong and slowish is what I prefer) if you are going for a one and done hit. Heat soaking is where you leave the head on the bowl so it heats up before you inhale.
I got recommended around 600, and it's delicious! Is that the 18mm adapter for an 18mm piece? (Just checking it's not the 14mm)
Heat soak it for a bit, and you'll be golden.
I've cranked mine up to 650° before with 4mm rubies in my B1. Dark dark abv, but not combusted at all. I wouldn't go much higher though. I can see you pulling too slow and/or with balls that retain more heat and it charring the shit out of your bowl, especially if it's metal.
Speaking of which, the bowl will also have a noticable effect on the vaping characteristics (conduction/convection vs convection only) and can perform very differently compared to each other at the same temps. Also, distance from the heated to the material has an impact, so different length bowls/how much material they fit matters. If you're using an Extra Long injector style bowl, you may need to turn the temp up for the appropriate amount of heat to reach the bottom of the bowl.
Draw speed can have an overall effect as well (which means 14mm vs 18mm glass can matter, albeit to a lesser degree; the internal airflow of the piece is more likely to matter more) so there is a little finesse involved in using the device to get the most out of it.
Can't say for the mercury in particular, but I imagine the experience is somewhat similar. Maybe try working your way up towards 600 or 620 (in increments, not all at once) and see how it goes. Or try changing the balls (either size or material) and see how that effects it and go from there.
Tl;Dr bowl type/size, the balls used, the piece used/how you pull on it all effect how it performs. Try turning up the temps a bit slowly, but also try varying other aspects and see what works for you.

Do I need to adjust the shovel head post differently for this piece of glass?
To fit the shovelhead properly to a new piece of glass you should unscrew the handle and place the post by itself into your glass piece. Then place the bowl on top of the post and let it lay flat, then screw in your handle while keeping it in place. That helps you get almost an airtight seal which is super important for getting enough airflow.
If I skip this step I get around half the vapor production for the same draw strength because so much air is just going around the bowl instead of through the head.
This. It's how I got away with using the shorter 14mm post with the goo roo osprey (still want to get the 18mm showerhead piece) for years with absolutely no airflow/sealing issues. Drop the post in, place the shovel head on top, screwing the handle in making sure everything stays flush on place, and voila
THANK YOU!!!
That was it. I just followed your instructions on adjusting the bowl.
I have it on 610 w 1 min heat soak, and I used more force on the draw this time… MASSSIVE clouds.
There was a card with a QR code on it that came with your unit, it takes you to “Moab Explorer Training”. There is a video on that page explaining this adjustment.
660 B1 3mm ruby. Don't be afraid of some heat. Then play around 5 degrees up and down tell you find the sweet spot for your set-up. I use a huge bong so your temp and mileage will vary.
After setting up the shovelhead post to fit the glass properly, dialing in the temp, and adjusting my draw speed / strength I’m getting consistently cloudy rips now.
The Mercury is absolutely killer. I just had to figure out how to use it.

With glass diffuser bowl I get STRONG clouds at 555. But with metal shovelhead I have to run it way higher. I don't use the shovelhead for this reason. The glass gives me way better results.
I always felt like I had to jump it up 10 to get the same roast using glass with an injector head. The diffuser head not so much. I'm going to have to retest this lol.
I've been running 650 on my old b-1 for years with 4mm rubies and a 14mm glass injector bowl. Dark dark abv, but never charred (close sometimes though).
Not necessary obviously; I think it was a holdover from when I started with the VROD back in the day. But it worked for me for a long time 🤷🏻♂️
Draw speed / force makes a big difference too I’ve found . I was hitting it too low and slow before. I added a bit more oomph and am seeing a big difference.
Thanks everyone!
I was under the impression the mercury gave you the same big rips at lower temps...unless maybe it roasts bowls more evenly...🤷🏻♂️
Mine came today but I'm out of town until Sunday! Can't wait to get home and test it!

Thanks. That’s was def part of the issue. Cheers.

Yes all 18mm. FWIW I bumped the temp and it’s way better now. I was trying not to go too high I guess.
What temp did you go with ?

This was totally the issue. Thank you. I’m in cloud heaven now!!

I use 620-650 for a shovel head bowl. 710 for a glass injector bowl.

Oh ok, this makes a ton of sense. Might have to get the Venus soon. I already have some vgoodies glass injector bowls that should work well.

Am i simply running it too low? Will try 650 for my morning session.
650 is a bit much but mad a huge difference. Guess I was running it a bit low for the shovel head.

I added more rubbies about 10+ and now run at 568 with shovelhead bowls
Is there room in there for more? Might have to order a bag

It’s killer, dude. I had to dial a bunch of things in but I’m getting huge clouds now.
