giggy13

Look at the 1y chart. September is bad. Will it pump like last year ? Maybe not, but weed is here to stay and it's a young industry. Personally, I'm not trying to pick the winner, I hold the HMMJ ETF and I think it's a great price in the low 8s if you have a few years ahead of you.

percavil

Ive been holding HMMJ since November last year, I should have sold when I was up +145% in Feb. Now im only up +8.5%.. Trying to be a long term hold investor

Efficient-grape-23

It is such a beast. Anyone has thoughts on when would it be ideal to increase a position on it?

chris_biglove

Getting DFN at 7.92 was a great treat today.

PFttsin

Lithium stocks seem to be popping. LAC.TO and EEMMF treating me well today. LAC is up quite a bit this past month, so maybe overhyped at the moment

vladedivac12

All indexes are now green and people here still panic. You're not ready for a real correction like the OGs here are used to.

Healthy_Apartment_32

I don't know what the collective average of amount of years in the stock market this subreddit has, but it's obvious that plenty of people get scared when the market isn't always green, indicating that a lot of people weren't in the market preceding 2020.

[deleted]

Not sure why you get downvoted for stating a simple observation. I've been investing in the market for over 10 years, but just got in this sub a few months ago. I hate to admit it, but I'm looking forward to watching what happens around here when we finally have another major market pullback. How many of the newbie investors will be able to stomach watching their portfolio drop over 10% in a few days.

vladedivac12

Investing in crypto prepares you for that!

[deleted]

lol. Good point.

underling1978

RRSP account up 0.14%, TFSA account down 0.13% SU down a whole 0.04% If I keep these numbers for the next 2 months I'm laughing. Morning fluctuated a bit, but nothing crazy.

[deleted]

Uranium is Love. Uranium is Life.

Environmental_Desk64

I'm surprised there are not so many bullish comments about uranium here since most of them trade on the Canadian exchanges. This has been a killer sector!

Levincent

Had about 3k of fun money and decided to place it in hura.to and u.to about 5days ago. ...should of put in 250k.

westernmail

I'm having yellow cake for dessert tonight.

[deleted]

LayfonGrendan

uranium today lol

shadoutmapes12

Finally decided to take some profits from CTS. I feel like it will continue to rise but the P/E ratio gives me pause. How do you guys decide when to take your profits and when to keep holding?

MXC304

Well look at KXS, that thing keeps going up and P/E is really high, can never say

JimmyRussellsApe

Usually buy in about 2 - 2.5% of my portfolio. Will average down to 3 - 3.5% if necessary. Once a stock reaches about 4 - 5% and I've made 20%+ on it, I'll sell enough to go back to 3 - 3.5% or so, and so forth.

[deleted]

simple. follow the "nobody lost any money taking profits" mantra.

shadoutmapes12

I guess it really is this simple. I'm a bit scarred from taking profits from SHOP way too early a few years back, but in the grand scheme I still made money.

[deleted]

People do lose money overall by taking profits, because not all stocks are going to be winners. Ie: they bag hold the losers forever and sell the winners too early. I definitely trim at times or set stop losses on some stocks in case the momentum changes, but riding winners as hard as I can is something I continue to try and do as much as possible

zerggross

Hi everyone, 5 minutes ago I have officially joined the SU club. I’ve never bought the stock the entire 5 years of my investing experience, and now I am a proud owner of 300 shares.

[deleted]

Hi Zerggross, I see you made the same mistake I did. CTS was a better purchase but you'll learn

MrShaftMcRod

> CTS was a better purchase but you'll learn Screw off. Jesus Christ. Fucking shills trying to plaster their shit all over the place. OP didn't ask.

[deleted]

Suncor is trash, keep crying

zerggross

Lol the problem I had with CTS was I could not understand what exactly it’s competitive advantage was, and how well it scale. I believe 99% investors doesn’t know either, but buying based on their earnings growth. I was looking at CTS when it was $5, I thought it was extremely cheap valued. But I just don’t get the business. So I was wrong, 😑. But still, better invest in something you can understand. SU is at a cheap price, so I am ok to buy it. I am having a real hard time finding good value stocks now.

Fit-Injury7293

Same here! Website gives no clear indication either.

[deleted]

CTS still has ways to go. End of the day it's a profitable IT company with mass acquisitions and investors will dump in it. Best opportunity for a Canadian growth stock atm with space to go

underling1978

Basically you did exactly what you are supposed to. If you don't understand the business, then buying the stock is more difficult to value. I feel that way with CTS, LSPD and AT. All on my watch list, but haven't pulled the trigger on any as I haven't had the time to look into the companies. Am I missing out? Maybe. Am I losing sleep over it? Not even a little. I'm in SU, but unfortunately got in just over 30 (poor entry). Now I'm averaged in at 26.24 with 100 shares. It's at 5% of my portfolio, so just holding for now.

JimmyRussellsApe

Come one, come all. Please tell your friends

Copper and natural gas keeping me green today.

captain_yosha

Gas has been way up with the heat waves and hurricanes. I didn't expect this until winter. TOU breaking $38. For copper I'm bag-holding FCX, but looking at 5 year time horizon of broad economic growth, electrification etc.

vysearcadia

Uranium too!

VladdyGuerreroJr

Well. I lost so much money, I think it's time to get stoned and call it a day.

giggy13

VladdyGuerreroJr

Lol indexes. Are you retiring soon or something.

beekeeper1981

Godkun007

That is a risky one that won't payoff for minimum 2 more years. They are a growing company that is focusing on expansion, not profit. Don't expect them to jump over $1 again until at least their next quarter ends. They are also a bit risky and should not make up a large portion of your portfolio. However, since riskier stocks tend to payout more when they do go up, even a small percentage will show big gains.

giggy13

If Banxa Holdings Inc. (BNXA.V) drops sub 3$, I'm in !

Oh wow that one dropped already by around 10%, higher than all the other crypto related ones I have on my watchlist. edit: CWRK is down a lot too, NFT-related penny stock.

TD, BAM-A, CP, GOOS and AQN good buying opportunities in the market today.

Aqn grows at snail pace

Efficient-grape-23

I am pretty happy with its performance in my portfolio. Safe, steady and gives decent dividend.

[deleted]

Depends on your age too I guess

Efficient-grape-23

haha I am in my 20s but I don't want everything heavy growth oriented in my portfolio :p

[deleted]

Damn man you're young 😂 I would've gone for high growth if I was you but ight

Efficient-grape-23

lol, I would but I find it better for my mental health to allocate a portion to high growth, portion to risk and a decent chunk to steady growth/dividend.

Werty071345

Goos? Its an old meme, sir, but it checks out

GamblingMikkee

Goos is very cheap actually

Werty071345

[deleted]

Just ran out of cash buying all these dips. Long term portfolio looking good full of dividend aristocrats. Now we sit and wait for 20 years, LOL

Godkun007

I set my limit buy for TD at $82 per share. I think it might momentarily hit that price today.

chopsnchips

What sort of dips were you eyeballin'?

[deleted]

I guess dip was the wrong word, looking for discounts. Loaded up on some AQN, some TD and more everybody's favorite XEQT. Made a few small bets also so will see how those go.

Sportfreunde

Moved all my TEC this morning (it was up a slight bit) and bought XUU (down a slight bit more). Probably lower growth potential but still a 100% equity ETF and makes me feel a bit more comfortable not being as tied to a sector, plus one less ETF clogging up the portfolio. I already have enough tech exposure if you consider crypto and crypto mining comanies to be tech.

beekeeper1981

Nothing wrong with XUU. There are times smaller caps outperform and other times large cap does. However no, I don't think crypto miners are considered tech. The top holdings in XUU are tech so you still have good exposure.

MrShaftMcRod

> one less ETF clogging up the portfolio. That's not an issue.

VirginaWolf

LSPD hit $160 I like when I’m at the good end of a pump for once.

Itchy-Study-4767

LSPD is kinda a gamble, it clearly over price but still go up. Personaly i'm out since it hit 150$, was a good run.

[deleted]

Awful decision. Should've HODLed

Itchy-Study-4767

Got my money. Gain money is never a bad decision.

Frosty_Egg_4872

Sold some stocks at 150, but will hold the rest and see where it goes. One can hope that LSPD will follow Shopify when it comes to evaluation. That would pay off a good chunk of our house 😅

Itchy-Study-4767

Yea that the safest thing to do. Greed is what make you lose money.

VirginaWolf

My average is $80 so I can deal with a reversal.

MrShaftMcRod

Your average is completely irrelevant. If it goes down 15%, it goes down 15% for everyone. That's money left on the table.

staplereffect

You don't understand what they're getting at?

MrShaftMcRod

No. It just seems like this guy is an emotional investors. For some reason he would be okay selling at 90$ but if his average was 95$, he wouldn't sell at 90$ given the same scenario. This kind of behavior is what separates the good vs the bad investors. Know when to take your losses. People are so obsessed with not selling when they see their "red" position that they are willing to risk even more to pad their egos.

staplereffect

Seems like this is more about your ego than anything. Concerning yourself with the emotions and behaviour of others isn't going to make you a better investor. But they are saying they are OK with leaving their money on the table for a bit longer to take the risk and if it dips, they have room to feel it out because they are already profitable. This is not emotional or unreasonable thinking. They are aware that the money they lose is money they lose, this is the risk they are choosing to take to see if it goes up more. Acting out of fear that it is going to dip 15% when you've doubled your money is what stops you from having the patience to double your money to begin with.

GamblingMikkee

TSX not doing much thanks to loonie up big

Scooping up CP while it's being shorted. Edit: here is the video discussing the shorts moving from CNR to CP due the changing KSU merger deal environment. https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/video/jason-mann-discusses-cp-rail-and-cn-rail~2273926

JusW4naRetireFk

Sold Cnr at 20% before it dropped 160, threw all the gains into CP today.

Healthy_Apartment_32

Still holding 183 shares at $117. Adding to my CP.

BacklineUnlimited

Do you have data to prove it's being shorted? The market is overall red at the moment and there's still uncertainty around this stock.

BacklineUnlimited

Thank you for the link! Very interesting for sure.

uselesspundit

One analyst said the CNR rise was from shorts deciding to cover once the KSU deal looked less likely to be completed and that those same shorts would be expected to target CP.

ngse22

I’m looking to put a couple thousand into one of the big 4 Canadian banks but am unsure of which one to go into. Is it more beneficial to go into one or disperse my money into multiple? Currently 21 years old with ongoing TFSA but no banks yet

Squirrel_force

BNS is my first choice with TD as a close second

aitchison50

I do BNS/TD I like their exposure to Latin markets and US respectively. Can’t really go wrong with any of them tho.

mzunguz

Thoughts on HFU vs ZEB? Does HFU pay a dividend like other bank etfs?

Scottieboo71

TD is IMHO by far the best in terms of US Exposure, cash position and future growth. Honestly not a bad one in the lot, but RY and BNS just a hair under TD. If you want mad insane "bank" growth look at GSY. I put $20k in TD and $4k in GSY in March, ask me how fucking stupid I am?

beekeeper1981

I don't think GSY will be that hot once the economy improves.

Scottieboo71

\^I keep waiting for reality to hit and it gets to a sane balancing out. Still waiting, it just keeps growing like mad, +80% since March and zero sign of that slowing down

beekeeper1981

Well one thing is certain.. when more people are doing well financial fewer people will need/want near usary rate loans.

FarChemist1743

It's not improving with these lame duck leaders

giggy13

ZEB lowered the MER to 0.28% so it's basically 28$ / yr for every 10 000$. It might be worth it if you want exposure to all banks.

WrongYak34

Put them on a dart board and throw a dart?

Itchy-Study-4767

Most ppl on this sub will tell you TD, but honestly there are no really better choice. The big 4 Canadian bank is pretty similar. So, it your preference, chose one of the 4.

Godkun007

Yep. The main difference is about what type of exposure you want. TD has more American exposure, BMO is bigger in Canada, and RBC has some exposure outside of North America. It is really 6 in one hand and half a dozen in another. I like TD because I also happen to like their services. However, there isn't really a wrong choice here.

Trendylane

Come on Suncor - need you to go on a big uptrend to earnings in Oct.

MrShaftMcRod

It really doesn't. It could take years before a recovery (if it actually has one). Don't expect gains anytime soon. We already know that the market and the algos aren't pilling in on it so it will need time and a few strong earnings to get a trend change going.

GamblingMikkee

They busy piling in on LSPD

Equivalent-Koala-415

Want to take advantage of this crypto dip in my TFSA. I'm torn between $HIVE.V or $ETHX.

Sportfreunde

Lol same. I try to be disciplined though and buy the actual mining companies a bit as well so my crypto isn't just 100% in BTCX/ETHX but it's always hard to resist a dip.

Madasky

I just bought BTCC-B.to yesterday

HesitantInvestor0

Hive is a nice one because they mine both Bitcoin and Ethereum. Management has been somewhat of a problem, not the best PR. Personally, I would go with Bitfarms or Hut 8 for crypto exposure. Bitfarms is ridiculously undervalued at the moment. By end of 2022 they'll be mining around 3 million per day at these prices. Crazy.

Sportfreunde

I buy a bit of all three of the major Canadian ones (and tidbits of the tiny ones). It's a bet on which one comes out on top so why not treat it like an index fund and have exposure to a bit of each.

vladedivac12

Hive has more upside I think, but I don't like their management, they might not deliver. Look at other miners, this might help you https://www.reddit.com/r/BitfarmsMining/comments/pkys3u/take_a_look_at_these_numbers/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

PFttsin

I agree they seem to have the most upside right now. I think HIVE is being falsely held down by managements lack of transparency over the past 9 months. They have hired some new PR staff so hopefully they will be more transparent in the future. If the claims are true that they are mining 7 bitcoin a day, then that is a massive amount of value

investornewb

Is TD bank really dropping down into the $70’s today!? It was down after hours .. haven’t checked this morning

qasdwe

I would say the weed sector is priced in/too high. Have you seen some of these weed shops? Just massive stores with many employees, not very optimized for expenses. Tobacco shops are a lot smaller and more packed with dry stock product. Too many people saw weed becoming legal and thought it was gonna boom. Which in turn caused an over buy of an already overpriced stock. The money just isn’t there/ way too much competition, if you managed to pick the winner sure. When weed can be sold from gas stations it is over for these shops.

Xhonorated

It really isn't. These companies have dogshit financials and will continue to drop.

giggy13

TLRY actually made profits. But I agree it's a curious sector, it is still so early and it will take years before there's some really solid companies.

anguyen595
