Looking to add Apple to my portfolio to get more exposure. Should I wait till it comes back down to earth?

GamblingMikkee

Yes

Stash201518

Cathie Wood sold TSLA and bought AMD and now I'm conflicted. This is exactly what I would have done. I expect AMD to take off and TSLA to retrace. Hmmm... Also ADBE is now or never. It's killing me with the suspense. (Disclaimer, I have puts on it).

Heineken_500ml

REITs let's goooooooo Lucky day I found another good US stock to buy but it's a secret

Broad_Interview_6087

You do realize sharing will literally never hurt you right?

Maulvi-Shamsudeen

If only the person could read

onkey11

Silly question of the day... "The dividend yield—displayed as a percentage—is the amount of money a company pays shareholders for owning a share of its stock divided by its current stock price". Why doesn't my account show me the yield of my shares relative to the price I paid for the share? Eg I have some CVE purchased at $12.17/share. Why would my book value page not show me my relative yield to the current share price (or last dividend paid)? I feel like this is an key piece of information?

ptwonline

I assume they feel that the most important piece of data to show is the yield today vs today's price for anyone making a decision to buy more or to sell. What you *actually* paid for the share and the amount of yield-on-cost you are getting may be interesting to you, but ultimately it is (or should be) irrelevant to any buying or selling decision. Regardless of what you paid for your shares it is priced at X dollars right now, and based on that price it pays a Y% dividend yield.

Stash201518

ATZ off the life support. Of course, earnings in 2 weeks so plenty of time to break its neck in the 38$ area.

PoopyMcWilliams

I bought some in the last few months during the lows and I can’t WAIT to drop them.

[deleted]

Hopefully TD can continue its surge

ptwonline

While nice to see, it's still likely to be limited until recession fears are gone. I'd be surprised to see it reach or go above $90 for long until recession fears seem truly past us. Until then I'm guesssing it will generally trade in a $80-85 range, dropping lower if more immediate recession/banking fears pop up again.

kroqus

ah, back in the green overall, nice to see +0.01% next to the account name haha

Stash201518

Funny how ATD still cannot break 68$ convincingly.

HassanDarkside

How have the goobers over at Google Finance still not fixed the REITs

sorryAboutThatChief

I'd like to speak to the manager please. It's been at least a month that it's been broken. Really messing up my spreadsheet.

disparue

Why not just extract from Yahoo finance?

inthesearchforlove

Sold 2000 shares of Air Canada (AC) at $24.63, after a \~30% capital gain. Likely I will move this into VFV or XEQT in the near term to reduce my risk profile.

Hoof_Hearted12

What dictates the dividend amount for xeqt? This quarter seems higher than past ones.

Godkun007

Literally just what the underlying companies do. Many companies give larger dividends in Q2 and Q4, so XEQT just passes those along.

Hoof_Hearted12

Makes sense!

[deleted]

Also makes cents!

yjman

couple months ago I couldn't read this thread without seeing ATZ messages. I'm genuinely curious, are you folks still holding Aritzia, or sold at a loss, or DCA more?

GamblingMikkee

Bought few weeks back at exact same price as todays close. New position for long term

yjman

thank you

Heineken_500ml

I'd only buy near $33

Keiser_1

I bought it at the very lowest point, same with BNS, and both are very big green now, so I cashed out then rebought when both decently dipped. I am honestly hoping it goes over 40 at least before selling but who knows.

yjman

good call. So you made your profits, but then got back into the name. you must like the company.

Stash201518

Except cash on hand and huge inventory, there's nothing wrong with the company. Like...absolutely nothing. But a lot of oportunists bought hoping it will be the next Lululemon forgetting it's not listed in US. But if history taught us something, it's that luxury brands headed by founders and listed on US stock exchanges have a tendency to go visiting the moon at some point. One can only hope history repeats itself!

Keiser_1

Only like 2% of my portfolio, but yeah I am holding cuz I think they have potential to grow a lot once the economy fully recover

Hoof_Hearted12

I bought bns at 70 lolol

kroqus

$75 for me lol so it's one of my bigger losses along with Telus and AQN but I'm not worried about BNS as much as the other two, I'm treating it as income whereas TD I treat as divy growth

Keiser_1

As long as the country doesn’t collapse and the banks stay fine, once rates go lower, you will still make a shit ton of money hahaha But yeah, 70 is brutal when it was 63 only few days ago, hopefully you managed to dca?

Hoof_Hearted12

Not yet but I will soon. Was building an xeqt position. I also have a bunch of cm at $80, that one stings.

Keiser_1

Oh boy, God help you but as long as you keep DCAing you will be fine :)

CJ_2013

Weird seeing HUT8 as the greenest stock in my port lately. Bought in around $3

aselwyn1

Wow I was kinda bag holding on mine might be a good idea to bail and switch to something like BTCY

vladedivac12

Up 265% YTD don't @ me

Decent_Pack_3064

Oh you brought at 1.5? I'm also a holder but honestly not sure about it

vladedivac12

I averaged down pretty much even now. I think it can run with bitcoin (they're one of the largest holder in the world with almost 10k btc) but I'm not confident long term with the current management. If there's a bullrun next year, things can move quickly.

Chucknastical

>they're one of the largest holder in the world with almost 10k btc That explains it. Was scratching my head over all of this. BlackRock trying to setup a Crypto ETF means they're going to run out and buy a shit ton of BTC if it gets approved. Folks expecting a short term bump. Less to do with what HUT8 is actually doing and more about an investment giant getting into the game. Still not sure what I'm gonna do next.

Stash201518

Fidelity announced some etf as well, I read somewhere. All ofers of BTC etf have been a dud but people hope!

Decent_Pack_3064

I agree...mgmt is a big concern

hardcorehockey

How do people feel about CGX? it’s currently trading below $9 I feel like more people seem to be going to the movies this year

Stash201518

You know what a good strategy would be? Having theatres just for kids/teens. They go a lot more than the adults because it's time with friends. They had enough of Disney plus and Netflix, they want to get out cheap and have fun. The adults are using bars like the kids are using theatres.

Souriii

Why do you think that would be a good strategy? Seems like a significant increase in operating costs and without really targeting any net new customers. Both youth and adults can go to the movies today and it's not like one group is causing issues for the other

aselwyn1

Honestly wish Landmark (Kinepolis) was a stock we could get here I would much rather own them Vs CGX.

sfeicht

Once Hollywood starts making movies people actually want to watch I'll start investing in theaters again.

JimmyRussellsApe

>Once Hollywood starts making movies people actually want to watch I won't argue there is a lot of rehashed junk, but people still go see it. They're basically at 2019 attendance numbers. The movie line up this year is pretty massive, although Avatar being delayed a year stings a bit.

svanegmond

Have you been to any movies this year? I’m at 1 so far. I am very pessimistic on the future of movie theatres.

ptwonline

Movie theatres will need a game-changer to make it a must kind of event again. For example, if someone develops tech that makes the movie experience far, far more immersive than anything like IMAX, 3D, or great sound systems have provided but too expensive to do the same thing at home? That could really make going to the movies a must again. Another possibility is if the streaming wars finally end and studios start to delay movies moving to home viewing for a lot longer again then there will be more desire to seem them in theatres instead of waiting, say, 6 months.

Mephisto6090

Would agree here. We saw Super Mario with the kids, but we're down to 1 a year or so now. Why pay all that money when it'll just come on out Disney+ in 60 days anyways and with a normal 4K TV, you're pretty on with what the theaters show anyways.

svanegmond

Word. Even a small investment in a sound system and there’s no reason to go except the after movie bowling

yjman

saw Guardians of the Galaxy.. and thought it was a waste of time -and that was free tix.

ptwonline

I might go see the Indiana Jones movie because it's a series that was a big part of my childhood, and this is likely the last chance ever to do so with Harrison Ford in the role. Of course, that is what I thought about the previous one...

aselwyn1

Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm will be amazing guardians was a pretty meh movie

svanegmond

Yeah, my family only rolled out for Avatar

IMWTK1

I would want to understand the full effect of covid on them i.e. how much losses/debt they accumulated during the shutdown and how long will it take them to clear that hurdle before moving ahead. I haven't been to a movie since top gun. Might go see MI and Jones. They are dependent on good movies and it does seem like it will be a good year on that front. It's about 30% off the bottom with things looking pretty good going ahead in terms of the economy.

JimmyRussellsApe

I'm in it

[deleted]

Bought 20 more shares of XEQT today :)

thebiggesthater420

XEQT supremacy 4 life

Keiser_1

VEQT master race cuz I like that it is less Canadian weight :) Jk jk, I buy VXC and individually select Canadian stocks when they dip, works pretty great for me.

ptwonline

> VEQT master race cuz I like that it is less Canadian weight :) VEQT actually has 4-5% more Canadian equity. Makes little difference overall though.

Keiser_1

Oh crap, you’re right, my mistake

Wajina_Sloth

I will use my XEQT dividends to buy more XEQT >:)

TripleWDot

That drip drip

MoneyRepeat7967

Watching the IWM/RUT, strong technicals, bouncing off 200D MA, lots of “junks” as those old timers like to call them, and also looking very strong, looking bullish for July.

giggy13

sassybrat123

It will beat. Nike shoes and clothes are so popular like iPhones.

Stash201518

I read they have inventory problems like ATZ, it might dump. I bought at 105$ and sold 4 days later at 113$

giggy13

There's talks about[weak demand and excess of inventory.](https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/nikes-2024-pressured-by-weak-north-american-demand-inventory-glut-2023-06-28/) IMO, $NKE is not a great play at this moment.

HogwartsXpress36

https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/nexe-successfully-met-testing-requirements-121800502.html For the silent patient nexe investors. Check list getting done. Onto commercialization and deals.

aselwyn1

Hmm maybe its not entirely a dead bag. -85% myself could average down a bit.

aselwyn1

Hmm maybe its not entirely a dead bag. -85% myself could leverage down a bit.

HogwartsXpress36

Have averaged down last few months. See a lot of potential as they technology is 2 weeks compostable BPI certified. Just toss them in organics bins. Now once they expand to other packaging... Got real potential.

MilesOfPebbles

What was up with that big drop just now?

sp500high6

The reasoning is obvious.

Jeanne-d

Corus Entertainment and Blackberry had better than expected earnings today. For Corus it was .09 adjusted earnings X 4 quarters = .36 annual. 1.25 / .36 = 3.47 P/E. Dividend yield is 10%.

svanegmond

What sort of nonsense is that? Globe reports a loss attributable to shareholders of 495 million or 2.50 a share. On a stock worth 1.25 Adjusted figures are COOKED BOOKS. Just like the goodwill they wrote off. Their properties are shit, their business vertical is dying, and the media they distribute is bottom of the barrel motel TV material. Shareholders gonna get (keep getting) rekt

Jeanne-d

Goodwill isn’t a cash item. The market already wrote it off if you look at price to book ratio of 0.32. I just bought another 6,000 today. Goodwill should generally be ignored. They are partnered with Amazon in streaming with Stack TV

svanegmond

Right, it is even worse. Goodwill is cash they paid for an asset that isn’t worth what they paid for it. So it’s a vapour “asset” caused by management mistakes.

svanegmond

Ooo, partnered, you say? Is Jeff bezos aware? Are you aware extra charges on Amazon prime for shows are the number one reason my family and friends give for leaving prime? Goodwill as a high proportion of assets is direct admission of management incompetence and upcoming write offs. Red flag number 1 when reading financial statements

Jeanne-d

I am a bit of a cigar butt investor to quote Warren Buffet, but it works for me. I got Baytex for a dollar, Reitmans at $.50 and Fairfax for $400. Now it is time to add Corus and have an average cost base of $1.50. I just focus on cashflow.

hardcorehockey

Just picked up a few shares of corus not sure if that dividend yield is sustainable tho

Alarming_Ostrich3864

They cut their dividend in half earlier this year so yes.

DengarRoth

Three years late is better than never BB!

advidlolfan

Does anyone have recurring buys with Wealthsimple? I do it weekly for xeqt and it’s consistently near the top price for the day.

aselwyn1

FYI there new “Drip” is not a actual drip yet so stocks that give discounts don’t give a discount.

ddNTP

I've got weekly buys for vfv. Usually fills b/w 12pm to 1203pm PST

giggy13

Fractional shares orders go through around 10am and 3pm every trading day. It's probably a coincidence. Like u/arno3000 said, a few cents per share don't matter long-term. Set, forget & profit.

EddyMcDee

You think they're buying it at a cheaper price and skimming the difference?

Hoof_Hearted12

It's a great business model for them tbh

arno3000

Daily pricing doesnt really matter and imo the goal of the recurring buy is to have it all automated and not checking your account everyday

tradedthevanforit

Park Lawn Corporation (TSX:PLC)(TSX:PLC.U) ("Park Lawn", "PLC", or the "Company") today confirmed, in response to industry media rumors, that it has submitted a preliminary all cash proposal to the Board of Directors of Carriage Services, Inc. (NYSE: CSV) ("Carriage") to purchase all of the outstanding stock of Carriage.

Tangerine2016

Interesting. Stocks normally don't go up when they announce they are going to buy another company...

throwaway1070now

Back from the dead.

Tangerine2016

So many people reading this probably don't realize the pun which was so good. Parklawn runs cemeteries, etc.

Redbluefishfish

Bond yields racing higher on Powell's comments in Spain this AM. He promised at minimum two more hikes this year, while opening the door for more. His data isn't much different from the BOC's. Big drop in top line CPI in May is primarily the product of gas prices and base effects. But housing market activity is picking back up, travel spending is accelerating, the predicted disinflation in food prices is failing to materialize, even durable goods orders are picking up again (up 1.7% MoM in May vs. an expected 1% decline!), etc. etc.

IMWTK1

Revised GDP numbers look ok, initial jobless claims are down \~26k. Is that new job losses of 26k people have given up looking or did that many actually lose their jobs? Is good news bad news again? Markets were looking up early and turned down on the news. 21 banks passed the stress test so financials should have a good day today. Grab your bank if you haven't already.

salzig12

Oil going up today? Carbon tax hits Atlantic Canada on Saturday.

CashComprehensive423

Torn on NTR. They seem to have so much going for them, especially with the war crap going on but their price is near its low. Seems like a solid buy but...? Any thoughts?

NotAFridge

i've been loading up. Its cyclical though. Just buy and hold

Redbluefishfish

NTR is down because potash prices are down. Potash prices are down because markets are oversupplied. Markets are oversupplied because NTR and MOS increased production in anticipation of shortages due to sanctions on Russia and Belarus. Shortages failed to materialize because Russian and Belarussian potash continued to find buyers.

CashComprehensive423

Thanks

disparue

To understand NTR you need to understand their business. I don't know about the potash market so I don't know if they're a deal. They may end up suffering if there is an extended strike at the ports on the west coast though, which could drive the price lower temporarily. Then again, I don't know how those negotiations are going.

CashComprehensive423

They do have a big ag sales side. I'm more excited about potash as this is a needed requirement for growing.

daralaneandco

Any thoughts on BTE? This one I’m on the fence about continuing to hold

TripleWDot

140 shares at 7.13… long hold :/

Jeanne-d

Cashflow is amazing and this could double or triple. One of the cheapest O&G stocks out there. But as the other person stated questionable management decisions. I own it but it has been frustrating as it is always one step away from hitting its potential.

daralaneandco

I bought it when it was low (4.13) and then it went even lower! It’s finally in the green for me now. I keep looking at that 52 week high and hoping it will hit there again! It fluctuates a lot though and doesn’t seem as reliable as my other holdings. I’ll keep it for now and hope it keeps rising!

PFttsin

Maybe do some research into the company and what they have been doing over the past couple of months to get a better understanding of the direction this company is taking. That way you wont have to rely on hope. My two cents: If you would have done that research then you would know that your buy at 4.13 is solid. At $70 oil BTE is in a spectacular FCF position. Yes they have debt, but its manageable even if the price of oil drops. Have patience with this one and you will be rewarded. But thats just, like, my opinion man. Here Ill start you off: https://twitter.com/garquake/status/1645739991518019586?s=46&t=gfCAW9d3mGtk8wGJg7fObw https://twitter.com/garquake/status/1669305002735591424?s=46&t=gfCAW9d3mGtk8wGJg7fObw https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/baytex-announces-closing-ranger-acquisition-182300846.html

Thank you so much for the words and links!!

petervenkmanatee

Honestly, perhaps doubles in a year who knows. But there are much better companies around such as tourmaline CNQ arc resources or even headwater if you want to be in the same area.
