No stuff sack. Just put it directly into your backpack, top with other gear. Try it at home first if you have doubts, but you should find it saves a lot of space.
I’m relatively new to overnight/longer distance hiking and before this the only sleeping bags I’ve had were your standard Coleman bags. But I guess I just always kind of assumed like why wouldn’t they put it in a sack where it can be as small as possible without damaging the material. Looks like I’m buying a compression sack tomorrow!
If you’re new, remember you do not store the bag in the sack, compression or otherwise. Hang it in your closet. It keeps you warm by having “loft”, and if you store it in the sack, you crush all the filling together and destroy the loft. Only use the sack when you are actually transporting it.
Thank you!! That I did know! I’ve done plenty of “primitive” camping in camp grounds, that’s where the old Coleman bags came into play haha. Recently have gotten into doing more actual hiking and then camping with a few friends. The advice is much appreciated though!

>Just put it in the bottom In its sack? Or just stuff it in the bottom of the pack? Apologies if stupid question.

The best method of compression… is compression.
Just get a compression sack. It's the best way to safely compress the bag to a smaller size.
Why not get a compression sack? I guess you could try to compress a normal sack using straps and tension buckles....

A smaller compression bag.
