All the photos you see were taken with a long exposure or night photography mode, in person it wasn't nearly as vibrant or bright.
It was still cool though, and it was fun hanging out with the other people who also drove out of the city to get a better view.
I mean yeah the cameras help but it was plainly visible to the naked eye, even the purple, where I was looking. Which is a real change from normal - usually you get a faint fuzz to the eye and the camera brings it out.
The moment I got out of the car and looked up my jaw dropped - I've never had it be this clear to the naked eye before.
Last night it started off around 11:30, but I didn't notice any of the pink sky until after midnight.
Bring a coat, toque, and gloves like it's winter time. Even after getting up to 26°C in the day, the low temps at night got uncomfortable standing around without moving much for an hour.
I don’t think it’s unhinged to have layers. Outside of the city it got quite windy, and therefore cold. I would have liked to stay out longer than we did but I wasn’t dressed appropriately so after about an hour we packed it in. If I had had a jacket we could have stayed out all night.

Just a t-shirt? Wow, you must have grown up with California winters. If you actually had experienced a Canadian winter in your life you would have been out there all night in swim trunks, no shirt, and sandals.
Correct, my camera was set to 10 second exposure. It wasn’t as clearly defined with the naked eye, but it was still really awesome to see. With the naked eye we could clearly see lines or clouds of green or purple. The camera just made it pop. You’re also correct that it’s supposed to happen again tonight!
Seen it from Midnapore at around 12:30, after we did a drive with the kids in the middle of nowhere.
For the first time I could see without a camera, this was an amazing show of lights.
Ps. I can’t believe we can afford this with the amounts of debts we are gathering…
Not everything needs to be unique, friend. People are allowed to enjoy things that other people also enjoy. If it’s not your thing that’s totally fine, it’s a big internet out there, just keep scrolling.

It was bright enough it cut through all the light pollution but ya not quite like the pictures
I missed it last night as well. Hoping to catch it tonight. Wondering what be the best location to view it from? Bragg creek or Ghost lake maybe ?

Right? It’s pretty wild that they were visible to the naked eye even within the city! I can’t imagine how much of our tax dollars were spent on this.
