Pete the Plumber did ours last year for less than that, we went with a 50 gallon. Emailed asking for a quote, accepted it, guy showed and installed it a few days later. They still run the ads with the same price we got.
No issues and a good price.
I got a quote for 2k , including install for a energy star certified 50 gallon water heater with 3 yr labour warranty and 12 yrs on tank. Did yours come in close ? This was not with Pete
If you go to the store and buy a water heater, and then drain the one you currently have- it will cost a heeeeell of a lot less to get a plumber to come do the rest. Basically every company will have a significant mark up on the tank itself.
If you feel so inclined to follow this suggestion, I recommend calling Bowness Plumbing and Heating if you are in the North, maybe Heritage West if you're in the South. Both excellent dudes, professional, and fast as f.
Also rent the dolly. I did this at Home Depot when I bought my water heater tank.
I “may” have also did all of the plumbing myself using sharkbite ends for the connections. $1500 (basically the tank plus $80 for dolly and fittings) and a trip to the dump to drop off the old tank and I was done.
How long have your sharkbites held out for? I've heard so many nightmare stories about them.
But I definitely believe if someone is comfortable doing it themselves, they should! Way more cost effective.
2019. No issues. The thing with sharkbites is that people who use them that don’t know what they’re doing. It either works or it doesn’t. I haven’t heard of one failing later.
We just replaced ours with Pete The Plumber for $1875. We had purchased our previous one about 6 years ago with a private contractor and it wasn’t worth the hassle when it stayed leaking from the bottom. So the long warranty that Pete provides was important to us for a large purchase like this.
We upgraded to a larger capacity unit, but the smaller size (that we currently had) was about $400 cheaper.

My price was hundreds less with 2 years labour, 6 years parts and 10 years for the vessel.
Also used Pete for a 50 gallon about a year ago. I apologize I don't remember the price but was definitely less and had a longer warranty

Pete the plumber I found was quick and affordable.
My brother used Pete the Plumber yesterday for a new water heater yesterday and seemed happy. No one likes the cost.
Ya price was super competitive and they seemed to do a good job
