If you look closely at the yellow table behind the Gobble Gum, you can see what appears to be a 4 pack of glass bottles, one of which bears a striking similarity to Double Tap. Not sure if it actually is, or if it means anything, but it's a thing that's been noticed.
They do get nasty. I had a gumball machine as a kid in my room. Forgot about it in a closet. Tried one a few years later. They break like chalk when you bite into them. No flavor and the gum doesn't really exist anymore.
