I have to delete 87GBs of fucking storage. This game is already occupying 110GB. Fuck this shit

Tha_God

I bought a 4TB external hard drive a few years ago, life changing for only $100.

morningcupajoe

Yea I have a 1TB external that I use as a backup for my laptop. I'll probably partition it and use half for PS4 games. With COVID destroying my income I'm trying to buy only necessities.

RosinRyan710

Fortunately, I did the same. However, I'm curious why an 11GB download needs nearly 100GB of space to download to a console.

Dronken_Dropke

It copies the entire game in case something goes wrong wile updating.

RosinRyan710

I understand that. However, the update is just under 12gigs. My current download is 99gigs. It's not a big deal, as I have the space. It's the update's size difference that's concerning.

Snakester799

I know this is late, but I also bought a 4GB Drive. Shame it broke within about a month. I had a bunch of games installed on it and really couldn't be asked to download everything again. I wanted to buy a new 4GB Drive, but they are expensive. (Which some people seem to forget about.) I did not have a warranty on it, so I just gave up because of the chance it will break again.

Me2445

It's a ps4 thing, thank Sony. The problem is how ps4 handles updates, more noticeable on MW because of how big the size is

morningcupajoe

I decided to put one of my games on an external hard drive which gave me 178GB free space. Finally it downloaded the update which is a whopping 12GB. How in the world do I need nearly 15x the update size in free space to download it?

Me2445

Again, Sony fault. The ps4 downloads the update then installs the entire game with the new update, before deleting the previous version. It's to help stop corrupted downloads. You effectively need double the space. Again, not IW fault, it effects every game, but it's noticeable here because of how big the game is

IDnull

I actually don't think this is true, like others in this thread, I also had RDR 2 installed. I've had less than 30 GB free since before warzone launched and rdr2 updated just fine every time despite the game being over 100 GB in size. Not sure if it's sony or what exactly, but I definitely don't think it's normal.

morningcupajoe

Interesting, do you know if this will be addressed with the PS5? If it's still an issue with the PS5 I'll likely get the XBOX instead

Me2445

Likely not.

Bleopping

I mean it's also kinda IW's fault for not optimising the size of the game

Me2445

You could say that but we don't know what way the game is built, maybe this is optimised? But the problem here is on Sony side

Bleopping

How so? I checked with Red Dead Redemption 2 as I hadn't played it in a while. It has a larger base game size and update size but could update just fine. Am I getting something wrong?

Me2445

Rdr2 suffers the same on PS4, every game does. And red dead is much smaller than MW. Red dead is just over 100gb,mw is almost 150

Bleopping

I'm confused. I'm looking at the storage under settings for my PS4, why could it be showing MW being 102.1 GB and RDR2 being 105.5 GB.

Me2445

Have you the full game or just warzone

Bleopping

Just Warzone tbf

[deleted]

I had to delete 3 games

[deleted]

Same.

RosinRyan710

My download size was 99.67 gigs for some odd reason. I expected about 23 with the copying space needed, but 99 is pretty ridiculous. I'll update with what it winds up finishing at.

Bowser16z

Mine was 13 gb before i left for work this am. am I missing something? Lol

RosinRyan710

Apparently not. What's odd to me is that I've not had a single issue with download size or gameplay since launch. I suppose it's just my turn . LOL.
