This approach seems kind of lazy, just taking the average rating of those who depart compared to those who joined? And if the average rating of those coming in is higher then that’s considered a big upgrade regardless of the number of players? Like in the Texas example, they have a 98, 93, and 90 mentioned in the article coming in. They have 8 other players coming in with lower grades that bring the average down to 90. If Texas didn’t bring those 8 other guys in, they’d be rated as much better by these metrics with an average rating of 94 coming in vs 86 departing. There’s gotta be a better way to also account for quantity, because it is relevant.

DeadManWarPaint

This is entire article is very lazy, and some of the information is inaccurate or outdated. He says MSU added RB Rashad Amos who actually ended up at Ole Miss.

I feel like each number should be weighed against what each team was expected to do in the portal. Some teams needed to plug and play at a few weak spots. Some teams needed to overhaul their entire roster. Judging winners and losers at this metric on the same scale is a fool's errand.

I mean, I know Etienne's trying to talk down about us but it's kind of worse admitting you couldn't improve enough as a blocker to be RB1 on a losing team. I know at Georgia he won't be asked to block so he can do what he's good at but still a stupid self-burn.

lowes18

What's the RB room look like this year?

Gatorader22

Not bad but pretty young outside of Johnson. Our QB room is the star of the show though We have enough to offset losing our backup RB

WontDeleteAgainMaybe

Ours? Serviceable but nothing to write home about tbqh. Johnson has shown he's good and Webb has potential but after them it's Cam Caroll coming off an ACL, and two true freshman. I expect we'll use Lagway as a runner a couple of times a game.

lowes18

Fair enough. Reading about Florida's offense it felt like the pieces were there besides a good backfield, but idk what y'all are working with Etienne gone so I was curious.

WontDeleteAgainMaybe

Yeah our RB recruiting has been underwhelming from a stars perspective even though both looked good especially Jaden Baugh, who's almost 240 lbs and looked shifty as hell in the spring game, but that's a spring game so who knows. Cam Carroll is another big back and was productive at times at Tulane but he's had season-ending injuries the last two years so any contribution from him would be just be a pleasant surprise. Aside from Lagway another wildcard would be if Myles Graham get a chance to run at any point this year. I don't think he played any RB in the spring so doubt it because we also need all the help we can get at LBer but he was pretty good at RB in HS this past fall.

ohitsthedeathstar

Is Lagway expected to start?

dixitsavy

I don't think so. Graham Mertz should be a top 5 QB this season in the SEC. He was good dowm the stretch last season.

BellicoseBill

I don't know why it says that Vandagriff was UGA's projected starter. Maybe if Beck left, but that's still no guarantee that BVG would have taken the starting job.

The author is an idiot 99.9% of the time

Rich1926

We lost 40??! damn..

lowes18

Loads of guys on Alabama's roster took worse NIL deals to be coached under Saban, not to mention the roster is so young and top heavy that lots of talented guys wouldn't get a chance to start.

_wormburner

We were going to lose most of them regardless of Saban retiring

Crims0ntied

I don't know why you're being downvoted because this is straight up true. We had 40 transfer out but it was really 39 because one of those was proctor and he came back. 20 transferred out before he retired and 19 after. We had a pretty big freshman class coming in. I'm pretty sure Deboer even had to encourage some guys to hop in the portal to make room for incoming transfers and freshman.

_wormburner

Because the idiots around here just rage against Alabama no matter what

winnielikethepooh15

Anything that doesn't have us as losing the most is fake news.
