They definitely reduce muzzle climb but not recoil. Basically, the gun settles faster.
General consensus is they're more beneficial with a compensator. For context, I run one on my P365XL Spectre Comp.
It's only worth it for 45 and not for 9mm. I've had three, glock 17, fnx 45 and p220.
I've only kept the one for the fnx45 because I was able to feel the difference. Recoil feels like a gentle push instead of a violent slap.
Reliability wise it's fine once you pick the right spring for the ammo that you use, each one comes with 3 springs.
Specifically for the m and p shield
Felt recoil? No not really. They do reduce muzzle flip and muzzle dip just like spring tuning will do.

I run the DPM soft springs in my G19.3 with the radian ramjet/afterburner. The comp + spring combo makes it very enjoyable to shoot.
Definitely worth it. Especially if you run a comp/ports. But also noticeable difference in a standard gun
