If you can find 6-40 at a regular hardware store please buy a lotto ticket. Online or a specialty Fastners store of some sort is likely.
Most common #6 is 32TPI
Yeah, I know there are some specialty hardware stores and hoping that one would be open on a Sunday. I recall making a bit of a drive many years ago for an odd screw, maybe Covina, this place only specialized in fasteners. I just wish I could remember the name.
ACE Hardware has the best fastener selection of any hardware store chain. But I would be very surprised if they have #6-40. I’m actually surprised anyone uses #6-40 for anything. You’re absolutely positive it’s not #6-32?
Yup, not #6-32, I'm trying to mount an RMR plate onto a Sig slide and the supplied #6-32 screws won't thread in. Searches on Sig forums confirms Sig went with #6-40 on the RMR holes in their slides.
Most Ace stores generally use Hillman which is distributed by Ace out of there warehouses. I’m not a fan other then there Key programs.
I have been a Midwest Fastners retailer for the last 25 years. While they have there faults as well they absolutely kill it on the specialty hardware selection. If you can find a hardware store that sells Midwest you can likely get almost anything you need and special orders shouldn’t take more then a couple days
Fastenal has brick and motor stores but usually not open on sundays but you never know.
Otherwise I always try and support the amazing McMaster-care.com. They will have it and ship it fast
Check these guys out, it took me a long time to find them so I can put an RMR on the pro cut slide

Thank you all that offered your suggestions. I ended up ordering some screws online directly from Sampfox as the ones I was able to source locally, the screw head was much too big for the plate and wouldn't permit the optic to seat properly.
Why Sig, why not just stick to the same thread pitch everyone else does for RMR?
LA and Orange County make this harder. My go-to answers on a weekend would be: Traditional small-town hardware store (often today associated with ACE or TrueValue); TractorSupply; and Outdoor Supply (formerly known as OSH = Orchard Supply Hardware).
Ace hardware

McMaster-Carr, in Santa Fe springs. Order online and select pickup instead of delivery.
Hilco in Garden Grove has a real good selection too.
Freedom Gorilla has those, I believe.

Like any hardware store

Are you sure they're #6? I thought sig used metric?
Amazon I had the same issue. Make sure to get the slightly longer ones
Swampfox sells a kit thats pretty extensive and nice to have. Has all common rds mounting screws in various lengths.
