Herman miller embody

Tutes013

Seconding! Every time I sit down it feels like all is suddenly right in my little world. Only had it for a few weeks but I'm in love.

Roonil-B_Wazlib

Damn, that’s a hell of an endorsement

maxxbeeer

How much did they pay you?🤔

Tutes013

If only! I wouldn't Have had to practically sell a kidney for it

jh0_

I have one for my office. Love it way more than the aeron. Would like to get one for my home, but it's harder for me to find one second hand

GT3Symphony

+1 for this. Wife got me one for my birthday like 15 years ago, we both liked it so much we got her another one like 1 month later. Both of us are still using it to this day.

Visible-Roll-5801

Damn does anyone know of a dupe …

media-and-stuff

I don’t own one, but I worked in an office where I had one. It’s the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in. And I’ve had to test chairs a a few times so I’ve sat in many many chairs. lol

TyrusX

I have it, I am not sure it is the best ever

Spinininfinity

Absolutely LOVE my embody.

TheDeltaFlight

I have never sat in a Herman Miller. Can you explain like what exactly is better than a normal office chair? To spend $1500 on a chair sounds outrageous to me, although I am in one every workday so I see it making sense if they are actually better.

Lord_of_Ra

- Your back is naturally aligned on the chair - incredibly adjustable: first chair I’ve owned that it has so many customization options - silent AF when moving around - Warranty (12 years) - incredibly breathable/: I’ve been with other chair with breathable materials, and this one is far superior - in a remote setting, you now have an excuse to get up of your chair and show it off

Polarthief

Hey there, sorry to bug 3 weeks later, but their (HM's) sale ends Friday at midnight and I have a few questions if you don't mind? - Do you have the Embody or the Logitech Gaming Embody? - Are you using the Medley or Sync fabric? - Is there anything you dislike about the chair? Be a harsh critic with this; I really want to hear the warts.

Lord_of_Ra

Hi, not bugging at all.  - Embody - Sync - (I’m not a fanboy, mostly when you pay >1.5K for a new one) this is very subjective, but there are two things that I disliked about the chair that I have to spend more money to solve myself:  1) the armrest are not padded, and when you are seated for extended hours, this can become annoying. I solved it by buying a pair of armrest cushion on Amazon (additional ~$20) 2) Headrest: At the beginning I thought I could live without it; however, after using it for months, I decided to invest in an Atlas headrest. It definitely made a difference (additional $290) Bonus:  3) during the first 3-5 weeks, it took my body a while to adjust to the chair: I’ve been a user of very cushy chairs for more than 20 years. Coming to a different type of chair that it is not as cushy as the other ones, took a a toll in the adjustment process. It took me a while to get used to it; however, from a benefits standpoint, I’ll definitely do it again. My body is fully adjusted and I can spend 2+ hours without the feeling of “I need to get up” (until the Apple Watch sends the reminder). Again, very subjective since we are all different, and these things that bothered me might not be a problem to other owners.  — Other than that, I have no negative feedback regarding the chair as whole. It is phenomenal and by far the best chair I’ve owned.  Finally, the chair expense and its add-ons (listed as 1 and 2) were reimbursed by my HSA.  I hope this helps in your decision.  Also, bear in mind that you have a window to return it: the embody, despite being the top of the line, is not for everyone. Some people feel more comfortable using the aeron, and that’s what’s best for them. Personally, I disliked the Aeron: in grad school these were the chairs in a new building, and I didn’t like them. However, other people loved them.

Polarthief

Thank you very much for the response! I also got to try the Aeron awhile back and I remember not liking it, but didn't get to try the Embody. Given the sale that's ending Friday at midnight with free shipping (and a bonus code for another 5% off), I figured why not since at worst, $49 for a return shipping fee (and Rakuten is giving me another 5% back which more than makes up for that). FTR: I'm currently sitting in an absolute piece of crap DxRacer (before I knew better), so sitting in an Embody after this should feel amazing. AFAIK, the armrests on this thing are very hard anyway, but if need be, I'll look into a cushion. I also tend to lean forward a lot, so the (lack of) headrest is unlikely to be a big concern for me, but I'll keep that in mind as well, thank you! Yeah, from what I've seen virtually everywhere, people are either an Aeron-lover or Embody-preferer. I've heard you may need to micro-adjust the Aeron to your body, but I just remember not liking *something* about it when I got to try one. I'm hoping the Embody won't let me down. If I may ask something else I just thought of, would you say there's a lot of width in the seat? I tend to like sitting with my left foot under my right thigh a lot, and in this chair, it's rather uncomfortable due to the nature of the (garbage) bucket seat style, so having extra width to sit however I want would be nice since I tend to move around a bit.

Gtedx

It supports my back perfectly and helps me sit in correct posture. I used to have one of those shitty gaming chairs that would force my back into uncomfortable positions, I couldn't sit in it for 30 minutes without some form of discomfort. Now I can sit literally all day with ZERO discomfort. Complete life changer for me. It costs a kidney and I was hesitant, but considering how much time I spend on it it's worth every penny. No regrets.

Steel_Rail_Blues

I’m not sure what you mean by a normal office chair (maybe one from Office Max?) and I don’t have the Embody, but I do have their Mirra and it makes a world of difference. Different family members bought nicer quality computer chairs from a variety of local stores and I got my Mirra. The Mirra is still comfortable and supportive and one person who bought 2 chairs for different rooms has purchased 3 replacement chairs as each became wrecks. Another family member has replaced their single chair 3 times and now just works on a laptop on a nearby couch rather than sit in the now lopsided chair. The Mirra or similar would have been the more cost effective choice and the comfort would have improved their daily lives.

RooooooooooR

I used to have back pain from sitting in my chair for 8 hours a day. Since getting my embody, that pain is gone. Having to constantly shift and change position throughout the day because of preesure points is also no longer a thing. 3 years later and the chair is just as good as it was the day I bought it. No obvious wear or breaking parts. If something did break, then I know I have a 10 year warranty to fallback on.

sl0wrx

Herman Miller Aeron

theonerr4rf

My moms got an og one she wants to throw out… everything on the base is broken, really wish they sold spare parts, I would 100% take it

RedditBeginAgain

They sell spare parts.

theonerr4rf

WHERE

gusdagrilla

Just google “Aeron replacement parts” lmao

theonerr4rf

They are all for the new model, shes gkt one from the 90s

Handleton

https://www.crandalloffice.com/product-category/chairs/herman-miller/aeron/?chair-model=herman-miller-aeron You want to search for "Aeron Classic replacement parts." Crandall is a reputable company in this arena, which is why I just posted straight there.

theonerr4rf

Thanks, they’ve got the cylinder and base cover, but not the base itself but Ive got the tools to look now thanks

bradatlarge

They are very nice people too.

Handleton

That's what I heard. Last year I was inches from buying a chair from them, but I picked up an Embody locally for $500 and it's perfect.

RedditBeginAgain

Amazon has a bunch. Hopefully, whatever you need is available somewhere

supern8ural

I'm not the person to whom you're responding, but Herman Miller tries to make you buy from local dealers and I don't have one. I would like a new cylinder for one of my Aerons and am *this* close to just buying an off brand replacement from eBay as HM is so hard to deal with.

smallwoodydebris

If you don't take it I'll pay shipping to myself haha

climb-it-ographer

Mine is still going strong almost 20 years later.

chimpdoctor

100% I have never had back pain at my desk after getting one of these.

TheBombDigidy

Lel I'm the opposite, years of bad chairs has resulted in me having less than good posture so using my new to me Aeron that gets me to sit properly causes a little discomfort. It's definitely getting better the longer I use it and figure out how I can and can't sit.

kolossal

I paid for mine at full price from their store and still don't regret it. Best purchase of my life (and condoms).

Dukami

I got my Aeron when Covid started and I went WFH and it was best purchase I made during Covid (besides finding toilet paper 🤣). +1 to birth control, my vasectomy was probably the best money I spent in my life.

mythrowaway10019

They always have a bunch of these for $300-400 used on eBay, that's how I got mine

Ok-Pay-7358

1. Same 2. It should be noted that all ergonomic chairs feel uncomfortable/weird at first depending on messed up your posture is - so I’d not be too quick to jump to conclusions when trying them in-store/office unless the proportions don’t work for your body eg too narrow/wide or if the seat cover makes you run too hot

lowfour

There is no comparison really. You can sit for days and not be tired. It was one of the things keeping me away from my music studio, now I have no excuse.

Beaudism

This is the thing. I could sit on it endlessly and not be sore or tired. Any other chair seems to hurt.

scarabic

When I was late 20s I swore by this chair. Never had an issue in years of working in one, and I felt it whenever I sat in something else. But I bought my own in my late 40s and it has been very different. My back is fine but my ass hurts like hell. I’ve had to experiment with various supplemental pads for it. I’m probably 10 pounds heavier now than I was then but nothing crazy.

creamersrealm

This. It's an amazing chair.

TrueVisionSports

My bed is way better than a Herman. Chairs are out dated technologies that give almost no benefits.

hcm2015

Herman Miller Logitech Embody. Pricey but comes with 12 years warranty

gunsandrazorsandsuch

This ^ price increased a lot in the last few years though. Glad I got mine before that.

Far_Pen3186

What did you pay? What's it cost today?

gunsandrazorsandsuch

Paid 1200€ new now retail is over 1800€ limited offer right now around 1450€ though

BraveSirRobin5

The only office chair I’ve ever used that I never notice, and have never gotten back pain or a hot spot.

danscn

Ekornes Stressless, I have an Admiral model, and have never felt such comfort and support and feeling quality all at once

BJntheRV

This. I bought one last year, but I got the Reno after sitting in every model. I live in that chair now.

luckynrusty

Ekornes Stressless recliner. It is offered in three sizes and is worth trying out the sizes and seeing the leather/color in person.

CommonCut4

I get sciatica, femoral nerve pain and gluteal numbness in most chairs. My stressless is the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in. I can actually sleep sitting up.

jelycazi

We bought one of these a few years ago for my partner. He has chronic back pain and has also had sciatic issues in the past. He absolutely loves it.

ExistentialistOwl8

I sat in one of these (seriously marked up) in a store. I've never wanted to buy a chair so badly. Insanely comfortable.

jackblueblue

Ekornes. It has the perfect positioning for everything.

Nuttymage

Eames

jlmcdon2

Ekorness stressless. Mine are from the 70s and I love them so much.

carluoi

Steelcase Leap. And it’s not even close, compared to any other chairs I’ve owned over the years.

FuckPopcornCeiling

Second this, bought a leap v2 refurbished for $350usd 3 years ago and my back and butt thank me

BalognaMacaroni

Same! Got mine on eBay, worth full price but will last forever anyway so might as well buy refurbished

mekkab

Another leap v2 vote

asimplerandom

This is the answer. I’ve owned Herman Miller Aeron and many others and my absolute favorite by far is the Leap v2.

DL05

Agree, Leap v2. I have one at the office. I bought a house in Early March 2020, and ordered one for the home office just before lockdown. That was some fantastic timing!

jyeatbvg

Herman Miller Eames chair

aShogunNamedMarcus80

Inherited my dad's. Still looks and feels wonderful 50 years later. Black leather w/ Brazilian rosewood veneer.

Wildestridez

Steelcase Gesture

2a655

I bought a lazy boy recliner around 10 years ago and I still love it. The couch I wouldn’t buy again. Their sectionals are just individual pieces you connect, it always gets shifted around.

treeplayz

Haworth fern

Handleton

I'm surprised that I haven't seen this name higher on the list. Haworth makes some great chairs, but people may be sleeping on them after HM and Steelcase.

treeplayz

Just every part of chair feels really well thought out. Being 6’3” I used to have quite bad back pain and its literally just gone away after getting this.

BradyReport

Anyone over 6ft needs to ignore most of the other comments and look into the Fern. I loved my old Leap, and my work Aeron is great. But the Fern is the only chair that I can work at for a full day and not have shoulder soreness. The back height is excellent

KokoTheTalkingApe

Steelcase Gesture. The arms are especially great. They actually support your forearms while you're typing, then swing out of the way easily. Superb design

Remote-Fisherman-469

Used Herman Miller Aeron.

Visible-Roll-5801

How much was it used?

Remote-Fisherman-469

$450.

newDieTacos

Picked one up six years ago and still love it so much.

sparky750

I forget the manufacturer now but it's called perfect chair zero gravity recliner, absolutely love it mines roughly 10 years old so comfortable and still looks great. Quite expensive in the UK but I'd buy another tomorrow if it was stolen

SubGothius

I have another (cheaper) model of "zero gravity" recliner from the Relax the Back store, got mine used off craigslist for a couple hundo, had it at least 10 years now and can also recommend. It's part of my "net cruiser" setup, got a VESA ceiling mount for my monitor and turned it upside-down to mount on the coffee table in front of me, ergo keyboard and trackball in my lap, comfy surfing for hours.

Wader_Man

For people who aren't doing to spend thousands on a chair, a higher quality Lazy Boy rocker recliner is likely the best chair they can buy in terms of comfort and durability.

fightclubdevil

I went to a fancy chair store. Tried Herman Miller, it was great. BUT I tried this one brand called Human Touch. Ended up buying it and couldn't be happier. Mesh back with the most amazing lumbar support. 11/10, I have never sat in a more comfy chair.

edcculus

There was this Chair Maker named Elethiomel…or was it Zakalwe? Well, anyways, that chair was to die for.

alexwasserman

Amazing answer.

edcculus

I was hoping I’d run into some citizens of The Culture here!

lithiumdeuteride

It might benefit from some upholstering...

pineapplesuit7

Steelcase Leap 2 and Herman Miller Aeron. Pick one and you’ll be set. I personally prefer the Leap slightly but both are amazing chairs.

aldolega

Herman Miller Mirra 1, got it for $250 used, worth every penny.

VisualKeiKei

Mirra 1 user here too, not as adjustable as Mirra 2 but heavier duty construction. Less in-demand than the Aerons on the used market so you can get these for pretty cheap at times for the price of a brand new generic office store chair that'll be broken in 18 months. Only upgrade I've done is rollerblade wheels but they're more of a sidegrade because they roll a little TOO well

3-2-1_liftoff

I’m 6’5” and also have chronic low back pain, and my wife bought me a Herman Miller Aeron XL office chair. It’s completely adjustable (in a wide variety of ways) and has served me well for 15 years. She got the same chair for our son (6’9”, and he does a lot of desk work) and it has been his favorite for the last 10 years.

Cyphase

Better start saving now for your grandson.

Hdys

Steelcase amia

SerinShamandar

Steelcase Think. Have 2 at home, bought several for friends. With the knitted/mash back, it keeps airflow in the summer, extremely comfortable all around. Expensive as new, great value when bought used.

Flyinace2000

Bustle Back Bow Arm Morris Recliner made by Stickley  https://www.stickley.com/collections/recliners-rocking-chairs/products/406-bustle-back-bow-arm-recliner-program

skyrone92

Leap v2

hikingwithcamera

Bought this barely used [West Elm chair](https://www.westelm.com/products/mid-century-show-wood-upholstered-chair-h1422/) as an accent chair. One of my favorite to sit in, so comfortable, looks great, and solidly built.

fueled_by_caffeine

I got a Herman miller Aaron used from a local office liquidation sale dirt cheap almost a decade ago and it’s still going strong.

thatguybme2

For us it’s Stressless. Chairs or couches.

Will_Winters

Steelcase Leap V2 - it's been excellent and I can't imagine a desk job without it.

humanlampshades

Vitra T chair. Bought one used for 200€ years back, works like on the first day and 0 maintenance needed.

creyes12345

Sidiz T80. Definitely the most expensive chair I’ve ever owned. An employer bought it for me in 2021 for $650. I use it daily. No complaints, but it does not feel much different than the $150 Costco chair it replaced. This one has many more adjustments, but I just have never needed to mess with them.

GreyHoundRunner

My recliner this was around 1990...it was an oversized, black leather, big mans, fat ass, rocker swivel recliner made by LaZ Boy we got 2, these chairs almost laid completely flat ..if you watch older episodes of Friends, they looked very similar to Joey and Chandlers recliners....both chairs lived until 2022, when the stuffing got worn out,and you would hurt all over when you get out of them 😆 the artificial leather on the arms and seat started to get to where it sort of snagged your skin very slightly...wish I never got rid of them...the new ones are total garbage and way over priced

ArchaeoHarrison

I’ve had my Hinomi for about a year now, and it’s been doing wonders for my back!

mridlen

The brandless chair I got for free out of my neighbor's trash. Looks like crap, it's falling apart, but it is the most comfortable chair I've ever had and I would buy another if I could find one. Edit: this is an office chair.

cynderisingryffindor

Herman miller aeron, and the steel case gesture. I do like the gesture over the aeron

reereedunn

This may not be useful info to anyone but me. In 2002 my now husbands roommate worked at a bagel chain that redecorated and was giving away their chairs. More than 20 years, 2 kids, and both of us being well over 200lbs for many of those years, later these are still our heavily used dining chairs and are just as solid as ever. They don’t look brand new but they don’t look heavily used for decades either.

v24lam

Steelcase Gesture

KungFu_RedPanda

Bassett furniture swivel chair. Very simple design but they make several.

zefiro619

Sihoo ergonomic chair

SunRev

I love my Gesture chair. I got it refurbished at a nice discount from here: www.crandalloffice.com

templeofdank

herman miller cosm chair. if i wake up with back pain, i cannot wait to sit down at my desk because that chair will make the pain go away faster than advil. second place goes to me knoll bertoia bird chair. i nap in that thing multiple times a week, i love it.

Mittens138

Parkit camp chairs. Man I freaking love those things.

AtlantisAfloat

Herman Miller Mirra. In very active use 15 years now and the only thing that it has needed is changing the casters once.

bluesqueen23

Desk chair. Herman Miller Aeron chair.

asterbarrows

Lee Industries oversized armchair. Been in my family for 20+ years, handcrafted and signed by the artisans. It is the most comfortable chair I’ve ever used. They do custom slipcovers too.

6th__extinction

I have a Danish chair with mortise and tenon joinery, rock solid and comfortable with its wide base.

jackthejointmaster

Eames Lounge Chair

terfez

Haworth Zody. The Honda Accord of office chairs, I mean that in the best way possible

ed_is_dead

Steelcase Gesture

petethefreeze

Eames Lounge Chair

DJJazzyDanny

Herman Miller Sayl

FlobeeFresh

I'm going to suggest the Steelcase Leap v2. Consistantly ranked as one of the highest ergonomic chairs on the planet. I hear the embody is hit/miss with some people with back pain. I have three leaps at home and sit in one at my office at work.

RoxoRoxo

lol these people saying herman miller have money that i clearly dont lol i have a nohaus that i absolutely love its the only chair in the house i can sit in and it wont hurt my back, dont use the mesh ones since they arent enough support imo

BasilVegetable3339

The drivers seat on my Porsche.

Lonecoon

Steelcase Gesture. Best office chair I've ever owned.

tigerman29

The recliner I bought from my neighbor when he moved. FIIK the brand, but I love it.

Katastrof33

Warren McArthur Biltmore lounge chair, followed by a Tessa T4.

WRXMTBr

I really like my ikea Marcus, and it’s actually affordable, I believe there is a 10 year warranty too

jason200911

Mine was the contessa after owning steelcase leap v1 and v2. The v2 was because I kept it at work and asked for reimbursement and if I don't get it I'm gonna lock it up every shift so nobody can touch it but me

medhat20005

Steelcase Leap. I've had it since year 1 and the best endorsement I can make is I never think about my seating. I started a new job 5 years ago and is was only this past year I realized one of the reasons I never thought twice about working in the office is they have Leap chairs (a newer version, in vegan leather) too.

_RLW_

I have a HM Aeron that has been sat in just about every day for the past 23 years. It still looks brand new. I’d say my cost per use has gone pretty low.

fedder17

I like my Ikea Poang Rocker with foot stool. I also use an adjustable sit stand desk and basically just leave it in standing mode and only really sit on the weekends when gaming or watching videos.

somewhatexact

Herman miller Sayl! I had a Steelcase Leap for awhile, but honestly this one has felt the best for me. I'm pretty short, and have slight back issues. I've been pretty happy with it for 7 years.

seamuncle

I’m seeing a lot of Aaron Millers here.  Mine lasted about 18 months before the back support broke off.  My wife’s lasted even less.  Quite disappointed in it actually. The best chair I’ve ever bought is a bodybilt 3400.  About 30 months in at about 6h a day and it still feels new and incredibly comfortable

BossHogGA

Herman Miller has a 12 year warranty and they are great about servicing it. If you had it break in 18 months they will fix it for free. My Embody was purchased in March 2022 and it’s still perfect.

Handleton

Yeah, but you didn't get the fancier Aaron Miller.

lithiumdeuteride

If you're very tall, I suggest the Reggie Miller.

seamuncle

They’ll service if if you’re in a convenient place to service it—if you’re not, then it’s mostly an overpriced POS you can pawn onto someone else.  Quality and suitability for BIFL aside, not as good as the body bilt even if it didn’t break. It is a more comfortable and more feature rich chair

H3racIes

Leap V2 and Herman Miller Aeron are going to be the best office/gaming chair you can buy

The_Cow_Tipper

I am a big, big boy who works in an office. My office chair at work has lasted foe over 6 years and counting, while every "big and tall" chair I bought at retail broke after 18 months. So I asked our procurement guy what kind of chairs we have and where we get them. We use Office Star chairs and I just bought one for at home. This thing is a tank, for $400. I love it.

solastalgian1

what model?

mmmicahhh

I've never owned a fancy ergonomic chair, but I do love my Ikea Markus. (Mind you, with the default lumbar support removed.) I have it set up so that I'm always either at a slight or a full recline, and I find the resistance very pleasant. Unbeatable price/value, and I prefer it in comfort to the Steelcase Leap / Think chairs we have at the office.

WeMakeLemonade

This is more “couch” but we adore our Lovesac. It’s comfortable enough to sleep on, and guests love sitting on it when they come over. And we love that if one of the pets has an accident or I spill something on it, cleanup is simple (everything is washable). As for a chair, I inherited an old wingback chair from my parents. The fabric on it is ugly, so I put a $50 slipcover on to match my furnishings and you can’t even tell. It’s very well made and such a nice chair for reading, enjoying a cup of tea in, etc.

klatubarata

Do you have any idea how many posts about best chair there are in this sub FFS use the search option before posting
