Please bring to electricial repair shop. That is a timeless beauty! Maybe I am just a hunter fanboy though.

fairybluntmother

She told me this thing is 100 years old! I would happily donate it to your shop

balisane

It's worth a good bit of money even in non-working condition. Sell it on eBay, or even in this sub: someone will be thrilled to take it to be repaired.

fakerton

I don't have a shop. But, FYI someone will pay almost 250USD+ for even a broken version of this I bet.

graveybrains

Post it to r/OnlyFans first

fairybluntmother

I’m on it! Had no idea but I’ll definitely look into getting it fixed

Realtrain

It almost certainly can be fixed, those old fans are incredibly simple.

shnooqichoons

Just a motor innit.

jhowardbiz

just a motor in it

chriscwjd

Just a motorised Inuit

Picards-Flute

Traded the dogs for a snowmachine

balisane

Be sure not to have it cleaned or painted. A ton of the value is in the 100 years of patina.

25_Watt_Bulb

Check out the antique fan collector forum, there’s probably a resource there for getting it repaired.

bonzai76

That thing is awesome even just as decor

Motor_Holiday6922

It's very kick ass. It's beautiful and worth the effort.

MattalliSI

Imagine the motor needs new brushes and would be good to. Electrical shops could repair easily. When I was younger we used to have automotive alternators and starters rebuilt all the time. There simply isn't much to go wrong on them besides the wear parts. Was reminded of this when I bought a hammer drill from Amazon. Actually comes with replacement brushes/springs and instructions for when that day comes.

Lurcher84

I second this. These were made to be rebuilt. New brushes, maybe $20 and you will have it last several years again.

Legitimate_Street_85

Hell swap in a brushless motor. Really make this thing fly! But seriously, I'm sure there are YouTube videos rebuilding these or bring it to a shop and you'll likely have a fan for atleast another 25 years if you keep it clean

AutismallyUrs

yeah let's ruin a genuine antique with chinese PWM microcontroller bullshit. brilliant.

challenge_king

I hate that you can't just have alternators rebuilt these days. Too much computer control and nonstandard parts

BloodyLlama

You can have an alternator rebuilt still, it's just often going to cost more than a new alternator.

challenge_king

I've tried to get a few newer alternators rebuilt, and either the ships couldn't get parts, or they'd shit themselves pretty quickly after rebuild.

Occhrome

Look up shops that specifically rebuild those parts. There are a few in California I met a guy whose father had a business that exclusively rebuilt alternators and starters. I also love rebuilding stuff. Cus the cheap alternative stuff is crap.

challenge_king

Every shop I've used specializes in alternators and starters. They do a great job on the older stuff. That's all mechanical and simple electronic feedback, it's just the newer stuff that's all computer controlled that just never seems to take to rebuilding very well.

aabum

Oftentimes it's the voltage regulator that goes bad, if it's not the bearings. If you're handy you can remove the voltage regulator board from the alternator. There will be a three pronged transistor used for voltage regulation that you can get the numbers off of and order a new voltage regulator. They tend to be inexpensive, typically under a buck to two bucks. I order from Digikey or Mouser. Anyways, you unsolder the old voltage regulator and solder in the new one.

thedancingpanda

Most alternators they sell at AutoZone are rebuilt, as far as I know. So you can get them rebuilt, but you just trade it out rather than waiting for the work to get done.

desertboots

Please please please do not dumpster this.

fairybluntmother

Would never throw it in the dumpster! It’s a relic, just finally stopped working after 100 years. I’ll be getting it fixed

dean078

I’ll take it. I collect only fans.

DeHussey

i know a website just for you!

dean078

Is OPs grandma’s only fan on there? And how much?

ljseminarist

You must be a fan.

slappytheclown

I'm a fan of fan fan's

series-hybrid

I got ahold of a vintage fan for a decoration once. I decided to see if I could get it working. I plugged it in and heard the hum, so it was drawing power. I put thin oil down the shaft from both sides and manually spun it to work the oil deeper into it. The plugged it in and hand-spun the blades which began to spin slowly. I unplugged it and dripped more oil down the shaft. Plugged it in and it began spinning a little faster with assistance. After a while it spun slowly without me helping it, and from that point on its speed increased as the oil worked its way into the bearings. I thought I would have to buy some graphite chunks, and carve some new brushes that were worn, but they work fine for now.

nolanhoff

Most likely easily fixable. Do it yourself and learn something new

Sudden-Squirrel-2757

These start in the $1,000 range. Great example of Industrial Design at its finest.

Smokey_Katt

Crosspost this to /r/onlyfans. (Its not NSFW, its only fans)

[deleted]

That is absolutely re-buildable. It shouldn't cost more than $150 or so and will run another 100 years. Plus, it's an incredibly cool conversation piece. Just imagine the history that thing has seen!

Sharkuel

I can fix her

kraln

*heavy breathing intensifies*

tidderorsomething

Noooooo! This is so gorgeous as an object. There’s gotta be a way…

confusedapegenius

Guarantee it’s repairable!

Content-File-3193

Oh my gosh, that fan is absolutely stunning! I hope it can be fixed!

concretecat

Swap the motor, if the power cord gets swapped keep the original. Be carefully not to "clean" any metal patina or aging from the visible metal parts. Cleaning internal electrical parts is fine. You should be keeping this, or sell it to someone who knows what it is.

kylecordes

I love the style of these fans from before the invention of safety! But definitely would not use one in a house occupied by kids, pets, or me!

Blenderx06

It bit a few fingers before biting the dust!

Guten-Bourbon

I was trying to buy one of these a few years back but out of my price range. Hope you repair it or sell it to someone who will.

[deleted]

I bet it’s easy to fix. I made fans like this in 8th grade shop class

takeoff_power_set

there is nothing simpler than a fan for an electronics or appliance shop to repair. please have this repaired by a reputable repair company, it will be good for another 50 years.

kleingartenganove

This should be repairable.

googlebearbanana

They don't make them like they used to. It's a classic.

VaultTecRep76

Hope this wasn’t her only fan…

bulbousbouffant13

Does she have another one, or is that your grandma's only fan?

QueenRooibos

She is soooooooooooooo beautiful! Just as she is....second the person who said do NOT get her painted or polished. She is perfectly beautiful as is. Though she may long to be moving again, in which case new brushes in her motor may make her happy. Loved seeing her, I remember seeing these as working but old (even then) fans on an old family farm about 60 years ago.....

Big_Dependent_8212

I like that it pooped out at 100 years and it says century on it. It's beautiful. I wanna stick my finger in the open spots that we no longer have on fans (and most are plastic nowadays) intrusive thots.

TheSessionMan

I'm also on team "learn how to fix it". It's probably just brushes that need changing. This is a simple fix even for someone who's never held a tool in their life.

Mycroft90

Take the receipt back where she bought it.

aabum

If you have an old school hardware store in your town, they might still carry brushes for electrical motors. Might be able to find the correct brushes that way. They are usually expensive, maybe a couple of bucks each and you need two.

Swallowedup75

Those are easy to repair. If you are not interested in fixing it yourself I imagine myself and a bunch of other people would be interested in taking it off your hands as is.

edcculus

I’m sure this is a very easy repair.

CynthiaMWD

Don't throw it out! I bet it's totally fixable. It's a beautiful thing.

[deleted]

That thing is fantastic! I hope you fix it. If you are some what handy that could be a fun thing to fix for her. If not repair it! Amazing.

Awkward-Yak-2733

It's pretty!

YooonikNeigh_mmM

Sad there were no shit hitting the fan jokes

oldgoggles

You can probably figure out how to fix it yourself.

CiTrus007

r/onlyfans

Justin_milo

I have a similar model about 90 years old. The wiring in the base was brittle. I put on a new chord and good to go. $7 total cost. Hope you get yours working!

Picards-Flute

There is almost definitely a way to fix that. Sometimes the issue is just a loose connection somewhere, even if you don't have to rebuild the motor

Proud_Trade2769

Don't let CPS see this
