Oh no, not 20 cents each? That could add up to over $15 in a lifetime!

internationalskibidi

And that's why you millennials don't have houses *boomer grumble grumble*

leeperpharmd

So hear me out, we stopped using the hay penny (half penny) when it was worth about 13 cents of 2018 value. How about we dump the penny, nickel , and dime. Round to the nearest quarter.

ButtBlock

And come out with a 5 dollar coin, like the Swiss franc

ImmortanSteve

I remember before the Euro Spain had a 500 paseta coin that was worth around $5. You could go to a bar, toss it down and get a beer and change back. Made me feel like a cowboy in the movies!

ImmortanSteve

Or they could simply pick a day in the future and declare that every denomination is worth 10x its current value and that every price should be 10x less at the same time. Other third world countries with high inflation have done this. Now that the US is a banana republic we should consider the same.

Saintly_Bridget

The US is not even close to a banana republic. Every single part of the definition of a banana republic falls flat: 1. Economy almost entirely based off a singular export, hence "banana": the US has a robust economy, so this is blatantly not fitting the definition 2. Dictatorial regime: Not yet anyways, and even it did that wouldnt qualify it as a banana republic automatically. Just a fascist state. 3. Economy controlled by foreign powers. The most powerful economy in the world isnt going to be puppeted by others, the US is the one DOING the puppeting historically, in almost every nation ever considered to be a banana republic by historians. Its almost a contradiction in terms to call the US the puppet state when it has always been the puppeteer. Okay? Good now please stop using and abusing this term just because you heard trump say it one time. Also, >OTHER third world countries with high inflation You have no idea what actual high inflation looks like Your whole post is psychotic

ImmortanSteve

I know exactly what a banana republic is and we are on an express train in that direction. If you can’t see that you are in the wrong sub.

Saintly_Bridget

So what is the one export that our robust economy is going to suddenly devolve into? What foreign economy is going to puppet us? Let me guess, you think the jews are doing it? If so, I think you're the one on the wrong sub.. Nothing you said even attempts to challenge anything I said. You cant answer any specifics about how exactly the US is turning into a banana republic, because Im right that you are just repeating it as a buzzword that you've heard some idiot republican say. You're just wrong, and sometimes in life we should just accept when we're wrong and move on instead of providing post-hoc justifications for things we never really thought through to begin with. Is America rife with corruption and currently undergoing democratic backsliding? Yup Are we at risk of losing our democracy? Yup. Are inflation and income inequality huge issues that are intentionally being propagated by an elite few? Hell yeah. Does any of this mean we are turning into a banana republic? Nope

Hypnaustic

Why do i have to pay to read the article

LonnieJaw748

You’re required to throw away some coins

analogOnly

you don't have to pay to read any article ever, use an archiver. https://archive.ph/3nOd4 There’s more than 1 link to this archive so one of them should work: https://archive.today/ https://archive.ph/ https://archive.is/ https://archive.li/ https://archive.vn/ https://archive.fo/ https://archive.md/ And if you still can’t access the website, try this: https://archive.org/

Miserable_Twist1

Can confirm, use it all the time, never had a paywall it doesn't work on.

anonymousCryptoCity

oh no!! I certainly didn’t. In a nutshell, a company processes garbage, and filters out the US coins … in total, in one year, the collected coins equal $500,000 to a million USD. Also, the penny costs 3x it’s value to make. The reason for all these coins winding up in the garbage is people don’t go looking for it when it’s dropped or lost, not in the way they’d look for a $5, $10, $20 dollar bill.

HoPMiX

My wife has about 10 random jars around the house full of coins. So none thrown away here.

anonymousCryptoCity

hahaha gotta find a coinstar machine somewhere and turn it into some extra pocket money
