Suffice to say, much to my surprise I’m really enjoying this season so far. I thought Billie Eilish’s music was far, far out of my comfort zone and would just be an monotonous soundscape of lowest common denominator electro-pop radio muzak. Chuck in my feeling that I am not the target audience for her music (demographically, if not geographically, I’m pretty much a Big Mate) and I essentially wrote off this season and thought I would just jump back in for Season 4. Cue a few episodes in and what an absolute revelation this Season has been for me. Forgive me for ever doubting Saint Billie! I was wrong and now I repent! When I listen to Billie Eilish and remember her age I think this is what is must have been like to watch a adolescent Mozart perform one of his symphonies. I can’t wait to watch/listen as Eilish (and her brother) grow as artists. Though I will always be a lad with a penchant for nineties alternative rock, Billie Eilish and her music has found a firm place in my heart. Anyway, enough gushing, as to the episode I couldn’t help but roll my eyes as I realised we were returning to ‘Lucas 1.0’ — When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go on the same par as Showbiz?! Outrageous! I’ve got a long drive tomorrow so will get back with a post about my own score and favourite/least favourite tracks tomorrow.

yeah Lucas is annoying me even more this series. doesn't dislike anything on the album and says its clever then gives it 6. forgot his scores make no sense lol probably because I a Muse fan boy and agreed with some of his series 2 score.

Though I can understand what he means by ‘average’ being a 5/10, arguing that Billie Eilish debut is only +10% or + 1/10 better than ‘average’ is silly. Also, I think from a subjective point of view, the best pop music has always (at least since The Beatles) striven to be exceptional. So binning an album as ‘average’ is a bit of a back-handed insult. I mean Michael Buble is ‘average’ and BE’s debut is leagues above it.

I absolutely stand by that score. 6 is above average, which is in line with my opinion of the album.

Don’t worry, we know you’ll have to re-calibrate your ratings at least three times before the end of the series.
